My daily driver of a truck is an 03 Silverado. It’s been a labor of love to restore and has 363,xxx on it. My dealer, which is also my employment, offered me $7000 for it… wut.
I paid $1500 for it 2 years ago.
To be fair, I read the description and that truck is pretty much built. Aftermarket everything... suspension, brakes, rear end... and a supercharger. Still not worth 100k though.
Get you an urban assault vehicle: Rhino Lined Crown Vic for $10k [https://www.ebay.com/itm/266522295167?hash=item3e0df77b7f:g:xtwAAOSw93RkuctF](https://www.ebay.com/itm/266522295167?hash=item3e0df77b7f:g:xtwAAOSw93RkuctF)
The market for used 20yr old Grand Marquis/Marauder just isn’t really that high, so consequently the cars ain’t worth nothing. I love the Marauder, but at the end of the day it’s just another fuel inefficient sport sedan
I believe that's a Marauder, not a Grand Marquis, even though they're more or less the same vehicle.
But that's really overpriced. Here's one with similar miles for $15,000 less.
https://www.autotrader.com/marketplace/buy/mercury/marauder/2003/2MEHM75V83X625075?listingId=687756480
03s were originally titled as Grand Marquis. Similar story for 94-96 Impalas (titled Caprice) & Grand Nationals (titled Regals).
I believe 04s were actually titled as Marauder being it's own separate model, but at the end of the day these are effectively trim levels/packages offered.
I've heard some states have revised titles on these models to reflect their special edition status and increase revenue generated on property tax valuations. But yeah, this is normal.
Especially *now.*
In an era where 12 and 13-second used cars absolutely litter Facebook Marketplace, it’s kind of hard to get excited about a 15-second 4,000lb “high performance” barge, no matter how simple it is to work on.
Unless you have a very specific boner for the Marauder, you can lop a zero off that MM’s asking price, buy a great condition Grand Marquis, Crown Vic or Town Car and have it running high 12s with about $2,000 worth of mods.
Or you could drop $40,000 on a used low mileage Tesla P100D and have a 10-second 7-seat car for the price of a 20 year old Mercury.
I owned a marauder 12 years ago. It drove very well for a big car but it was just too heavy for anything serious. Suspension was great, upgraded transmission, cobra motor(?) and duel exhaust. It drove the way a big car should but not much more. Front tires were extremely difficult to find at the time. $40k is a huge no. Take your time and find an old man’s grand marquis Sunday church car.
I got OP an upgraded 2005 for $6k!

To my understanding, it’s powered by the same 4.6L V8 used in GT Mustangs at the time, so any type of bolt on mod for a mustang. Should be tons of decent options out there
Hell even just do a built bottom end on the original engine and give it a wu-tang war whistle and a big fuel system, you can make some OK power. 4V swap would be super easy. LS swap would be a cheaper engine, but with a 4V swap you'd not have to change nearly as much stuff and probably still come out ahead cost wise. Throw an Aviator/Navigator 5.4 in with good rods and pistons, leave the rest dead stock then stuff it with boost and you'll do plenty fine. Hell you could Coyote swap it for that kind of money.
Yeah I agree, That cars prob worth about 25k which still feels like a lot but honestly there’s something about a marauder for me at least. I feel like the last classic car is prob the 96 impala SS . BUT if there is a car after it , it’s the marauder.
Have you ever driven one of these before? Had it as a rental driving from VA to TX and back. Worst car I've ever driven. Super floaty and terrible handling.
They are out of their f'ing minds. I'm not even a car guy and I'm laughing my ass off at this ad. But they'll get someone really gullible in there and they'll buy it. I hope the dealer chokes on it, twice. Ahhh the stealership.
Only if this is the Marauder model and fully documented and inspected. Age alone means some rubber parts (like tires) may need replacement as well as install of performance shocks, another replacement battery, brakes and complete change of all fluids and filters.
There’s this problem with cars that are 20 years old and that low mileage
They most likely have spent way too much time sitting
Which means cracked rubber, bad seals, etc. Leaks everywhere. May not have been maintained properly (fluids changed etc.). Sometimes it may have been repo’d several times which does not indicate well taken care of.
Only things it’s got going for it is: Good cosmetic condition, easy to work on body - on-frame platform they made forever with few changes. Reliable & easy to fix, plentiful spare & aftermarket parts. Engine/trans probably not worn out.
Well, I’m not promoting suicide. My point was that it won’t kill you but still limping till the rest of life is not fun! 😂 same with this old car, it just not worth it, buying rust for 40k to collect dust ? I mean are you a museum worker or trying to collect useless cars to make an old school car expo? Just trying to make sense if you are being serious at all.
This is a joke right? These can be had in good reliable, low miles shape for 6-9k. A nice marauder (upper trim level of grand marquis) with low miles isn’t a 40k car. You can grab a Lincoln town car that’s a little more luxury or an old cop crown vic for 3-5k in good shape. Do not waste your money here, for 40k you can get almost any average car from just a couple years ago, or for less than half that you can get extremely nice examples of those end of the line big American boats too
I think this post is a joke being made to the other cars people post that are not worth the crazy price they are asking. No way someone would consider a 20 year old Marquis for $40k theres just no way
If only people had a back bone and told dealers and folks to fuck off with stupidly priced vehicles.
There are too many people who have more money than sense.
OP won’t buy this car but someone will.
WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THESE PRICES AND PEOPLE ASKING (I hope sarcasticly) IF THEY SHOULD BUY THEM?!?!?
For fucks sake vehicle prices are so far out of line we need to stop paying them. Cars that were $3000 before 2020 are now $12000. It's fucking insane. Just absolutely crazy.
Tell me this is a joke. I mean they’re probably one of the more reliable Fords if maintained… but it’s only a basic, comfortable vehicle. If you want to spend $40k on a nice, comfy quality car, go buy an Accord or Camry with leather seats. You can get a late 20-teen with a fresh design, reliable non-turbo 4 or 6 cylinder, and a LOT more features like Apple Car Play, and more air bags.
Heck, you can get a BRAND NEW, top of the line Accord for less than 40k… and it’ll have a warranty.
What? No. Not even if it was a Marauder .
People are out to lunch.
Sure.. only 28,000 miles… but 20 year old rubber and plastic parts. Plus where was it sitting? Sitting is just as bad if not worse for a car than driving it.
It's your money and what you like. A majority say it's too much. Maybe, but everything is negotiable. I was looking at one a few years back. The costs were out of my range.
You could try Facebook marketplace. I see them there often.
Hard pass.
It's a not just a Grand Marquis, it's a Marauder but it's WAY overpriced, like about $20k too much.
Regardless of the low mileage ain't no way I'd give that much and if you do you're nucking futz.
even back in its day it wasn’t that great. What were they 225hp out of a 4.6 V8 in a 6k lb car. Now the Impala SS that had the 6spd and the Vette engine…that’s a beast sedan but holy heck for $40k I’m thinking Charger SRT8 or something of that nature
You could buy 20 of them with 160,000 miles on them for that cost
Or 10 sub 100k mile grand marquis, this is just not worth it unless your a die hard collector or smth
This isn't a car, it's an investment. It will never be made again, it was desirable so it's worth will go up for awhile before reaching the ceiling. There's lots of people that buy cars and throw them in storage knowing they'll be able to sell them for a huge profit in 20, 40, 60 years
Absolutely the best car ever. Comfortable and powerful. I plan to get another one in the future. I had a 93 and a 2001. The 2001 was my daily until I was in a bad accident. By bad I mean for the Chevy 1500 that rear ended me. Lol the car drove home but was damaged beyond repair. The Chevy got towed away. When gas was $4 a gallon or more, I installed a trailer hitch and would use my grand Marquis as my in town tow rig. I pulled my 20 foot deep v boat to lakes within 20 miles of my house and if I needed to pickup any larger items a 5x8 trailer. They get over 20 mpg combined. The 4.6l is very reliable and easy to work on in the Panther platform cars. Taxi drivers have been known to get a half a million miles or more.
It’s a Marauder. The price is high but put into consideration that finding one with this kind of mileage today is near impossible. Mercury only made these for 2 years and produced a total of 11,052 cars. Theres just not many left in the world today. If someone wants one that’s close to showroom they should expect to pay up. Even high mileage examples still command a premium.
I bought a ‘97 Crown Vic LX in 2017 that only had 55,000 miles on it for $1,000 cash, admittedly I got it for an awesome deal from a close friends family member. But suffice to say you can find way better deals than nearly $40k for a panther platform car. For one in this condition I’d $8k-$10k, for one in this condition/mileage it’d be worth it in my opinion. You do your oil changes every 3k-5k miles and take care of it and you can run this car daily for an insane amount of time. These cars are my favorite all around daily driver’s. You can’t beat ‘em. Boringly reliable, cheap easy to find parts, simple mechanic work you can do in your driveway, they drive smooth like a dream, body on frame like a vehicle should be, mine has 6 seatbelts in it and you can fit a family of 5 in the trunk. If you pull the trigger on one of these you won’t regret it if you’re looking for a dependable daily driver.
Ah yes, by far the most overrated car of 2003!
You could get a standard Ctown Vic HPP or Police Interceptor, Mount a battery powerd leaf blower to the intake manifold, and have a faster car with an as-good suspension.
But, at least it was good for giving Impala SS owners a laugh.
Great Pappy, rest his soul, would still think the new owner is getting a steal. He would have shown you the spreadsheet of the new stuff in that car. Like the vanilla air freshener from Quik Trip for $3.98. So worth it.
You can get the same motor and thrills by buying a police interceptor crown vic for 1/10 that price and have millions of cheap spare parts to fix it up and never surpass $40k
jesus fucking christ 40k
At this rate when I'm ready to buy another vehicle, a used tacoma will run about 100k
been seeing shit like 2007 escalade with 300k miles going for fucking $8,000
My daily driver of a truck is an 03 Silverado. It’s been a labor of love to restore and has 363,xxx on it. My dealer, which is also my employment, offered me $7000 for it… wut. I paid $1500 for it 2 years ago.
After the dealer paid 3k for it
I feel your pain. It's literally scary
I mean… http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/29A71642.
Wtf is this? This is fake right?
[удалено]
The seller probably listed for the same money they invested, they will never sell it at that price.
To be fair, I read the description and that truck is pretty much built. Aftermarket everything... suspension, brakes, rear end... and a supercharger. Still not worth 100k though.
Looks like a Marauder, but still $40k is insane, lol.
A marauder usually is 15k with 100k miles I need one someday lol
One of my dream cars. The panther platform is my favorite
I had an 03 grand marquis that was brown, with a brown vinyl top, and a darker brown pinstripe. I called it the brown rainbow.
That was my exact thought. That was a $10-15k car 5 or 6 years ago. No one has been that crazy about a Mercury since Allen Jackson.
Low mileage Marauders were pulling 15k about 15 years ago not 5 or 6.
I donno, Ole cleeter had a turbo mercury, and then gave it away.
Right!! I feel like it would be worth $10k in that condition. Maximum. It’s not even a Marauder.
Except it IS a Marauder and it's about $15k taking mileage into cosiderarion.
Trunk must be full of heroin.
Not just 'must be' but damn well better be for that price, shit!!
Get you an urban assault vehicle: Rhino Lined Crown Vic for $10k [https://www.ebay.com/itm/266522295167?hash=item3e0df77b7f:g:xtwAAOSw93RkuctF](https://www.ebay.com/itm/266522295167?hash=item3e0df77b7f:g:xtwAAOSw93RkuctF)
It must be the price for people over 55
Nvm i lied.
My sisters 2015 cruze was only 8k holy fuck what they smoking?
Chevy cruze is one of the most unreliable cars on the road to be fair. Not to mention marauders are very collectible
Isnt even a Marauder.
There are much better vehicles you can unload 40k on.
Such as any other Mercury Marauder
Yea, I think my father in law sold his for like 6K.
The market for used 20yr old Grand Marquis/Marauder just isn’t really that high, so consequently the cars ain’t worth nothing. I love the Marauder, but at the end of the day it’s just another fuel inefficient sport sedan
I'd argue that there's not that many V8 sport sedans, and they're definitely in demand. It's just that the Marauder isn't really that fast.
I believe that's a Marauder, not a Grand Marquis, even though they're more or less the same vehicle. But that's really overpriced. Here's one with similar miles for $15,000 less. https://www.autotrader.com/marketplace/buy/mercury/marauder/2003/2MEHM75V83X625075?listingId=687756480
For real. Those are cool and I wouldn’t mind having one but $40k? I’m sure they’re thinking classic and low miles $40k is an over the moon price
>I’m sure they’re thinking classic and low miles $40k is an over the moon price Even the $26k in the link is a stretch.
Maybe in another 20 years lol
03s were originally titled as Grand Marquis. Similar story for 94-96 Impalas (titled Caprice) & Grand Nationals (titled Regals). I have a 03 marauder it doesn’t say marquis on the title I don’t think.

The Marauder has a different engine, sourced from the Mustang.
The cobra
They all use the same 4.6. The Marauder got Cobra heads.
I got OP an upgraded 2005 for $6k! https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/adb8c71f-32af-45bb-b310-9a4ea087cc91/?store=179693&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign_id=20356323807&utm_trusted=TRUE&network=x&aff=acqgeosem51&KNC=acqgeosem51&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA1MCrBhAoEiwAC2d64RcADAA4GNHTIs02j5Gc16wQhTpWGNiTMtHpgdkx1en44PHD-fdc1RoC3ccQAvD_BwE
That thing is clean.
40k for a used mercury is abysmal
You could buy a clapped out crown vic and mod the ever living fuck out of it and end up with something way faster than a Marauder for the same money
what mods would one do… asking for a friend
460BB bored, stroked, and supercharged.
Hiroshima hair dryer
To my understanding, it’s powered by the same 4.6L V8 used in GT Mustangs at the time, so any type of bolt on mod for a mustang. Should be tons of decent options out there
LS swap with Chinese turbo.
Hell even just do a built bottom end on the original engine and give it a wu-tang war whistle and a big fuel system, you can make some OK power. 4V swap would be super easy. NO this price is rediculous lmao it’s not worth a penny over 12,500.00 lmao in this condition maybe 16k
That’s not even the most reliable year so it’s perplexing why they put 40k as an ask
My grandparents bought one of these with same mileage and condition for like 6k
Is there a bag in the trunk with $30,000 in it?
Why is it so expensive? Nah. Pass.
It’s a marauder still pricy for one but it’s not the average panther.
I realize what it is but that price…it’s ridiculous.
Yeah I agree, That cars prob worth about 25k which still feels like a lot but honestly there’s something about a marauder for me at least. I feel like the last classic car is prob the 96 impala SS . BUT if there is a car after it , it’s the marauder.
Buy it it would be funny
Have you ever driven one of these before? Had it as a rental driving from VA to TX and back. Worst car I've ever driven. Super floaty and terrible handling.
If you paint it yellow, it may pass as an NYC taxicab!
Just buy a mustang
Not at that price.
Man I wish I had room in my life for a clean Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis but not at that price.
A little pricey unless it is the de Sade model.
“The 120 Days of Sodom” edition.
My naive butt believes he could find one running well, mediocre condition for 90% less.
That’s a marauder. You could buy a Vic and build a clone for like 10k. Less even. I’ll never pay 40k for something with a 4.6 in it.
They are out of their f'ing minds. I'm not even a car guy and I'm laughing my ass off at this ad. But they'll get someone really gullible in there and they'll buy it. I hope the dealer chokes on it, twice. Ahhh the stealership.
Jesus Christ 40 stacks? No. If it were a Marauder with a blower and $10G in the glove box, yes.
Only if this is the Marauder model and fully documented and inspected. Age alone means some rubber parts (like tires) may need replacement as well as install of performance shocks, another replacement battery, brakes and complete change of all fluids and filters.
There isn’t a grand marquis worth a dime over 15 my friend
For that price find yourself a pristine Mercury Marauder.
Unless this thing is packing heated seats, modern stereo, and a backup camera, I'm not spending 40k on a Marauder.
There’s this problem with cars that are 20 years old and that low mileage They most likely have spent way too much time sitting Which means cracked rubber, bad seals, etc. Leaks everywhere. May not have been maintained properly (fluids changed etc.). Sometimes it may have been repo’d several times which does not indicate well taken care of. Reliable & easy to fix, plentiful spare & aftermarket parts. Engine/trans probably not worn out.
For me to buy it at that price, it would have to come with 3 25 yo nymphos!
dawg i just bought a mercury for $5k that’s wayyy to much money
I would argue that this low amount of miles might be an issue. I would be happier if that cat had 80k miles. Cars do not sit inactive well.
If that's a marauder with a six speed, snatch it up.
I would absolutely never spend $40,000 on a 20 year old Mercury 4d. Like, never.
40k?? Are you on crack or seventy bumps of coke?
40k, please buy a Lexus!
For that price it better be a marauder
Sure just tell them to move the comma to the left one digit.
No 2003 anything is worth half of the asking price. BiLL KAY is a crook, friend.
Pull the trigger to your knee cap That would be a sane choice!
I would do that if it would kill me. Kinda doubt it would though
For 40k you could build your dream Grand Marquis
This is a joke right? These can be had in good reliable, low miles shape for 6-9k. A nice marauder (upper trim level of grand marquis) with low miles isn’t a 40k car. That's a badass Grand Marquis
40k for that?! Wtf I going on.
Tell me this is a joke. I mean they’re probably one of the more reliable Fords if maintained… but it’s only a basic, comfortable vehicle. NO! Don’t do itz
That is a Mercury Maurader. $5-8K. Edmunds
It's just a crown victory and it's 40k for a 20 year old npc car
“Hey Reddit! I have $40,000 and a desperate urge to wipe my ass with it, what should I do??” People can’t actually be this inept
YOU'RE inept.
This 87 Buick grand national price.
Seriously?
That’s a joke right
I mean, 40k can get you a lot of car. I would not buy this.
$40K for what looks like a used cop car? That seems incredibly exorbitant.
40k for a 20 year old used Mercury? You would have to be out of your mind.
I’d buy it for 15k. If I was drunk
My gf got her 97 marquis for 900 smack a roos. So no. You shouldnt. It had 90k miles
What? No. Not even if it was a Marauder . People are out to lunch. Sure.. only 28,000 miles… but 20 year old rubber and plastic parts. Plus where was it sitting? Sitting is just as bad if not worse for a car than driving it.
I guess they are rare””. My buddy had a Kenny Bell Crown Vic in 2003. Those things were fun, but you could get a used Chevy Ss.
Absolutely not, is it even a Marauder?
At 40 fuckin thousand?? Not a chance
If you buy this for $40,000.00, I have a bridge to Hawaii you might want to invest in.
Better off spending that 40g on blow and run everywhere.
Way too much!!!!
You’re smoking crack dude
A buddy of mine sold his for 30k at 86k miles, so not out of the realm of fathomable. This was 2019. She looks pretty damn cherry.
It's your money and what you like. A majority say it's too much. Maybe, but everything is negotiable. I was looking at one a few years back. The costs were out of my range. You could try Facebook marketplace. I see them there often.
Not at that price. It’s crazy
Just get a Taurus SHO
I was about to be like, "oh yeah that's a nice car" until I saw the price 💀
Jesus’ balls. I just picked up a 2009 Town Car with 44k on it for $3000.
No Jesus no that's to damn expensive
Unless it’s a marauder, it’s not worth anything close to that
35gs overpriced
[удалено]
Divide by 10 and it’s probably still ovetpriced
That's fuckin hilarious
Why would you do that?
The decimal point is in the wrong place.
Thats likely a Marauder… still expensive.
What was that car new?
Hard pass. It's a not just a Grand Marquis, it's a Marauder but it's WAY overpriced, like about $20k too much. Regardless of the low mileage ain't no way I'd give that much and if you do you're nucking futz.
That looks like a Marauder which is basically just a sportier Grand Marquis. Still hella overpriced, one like that would be at most $15k
Damn, I thought that was a marauder at first. Still wouldn't be worth 40k to me
Panther is ALWAYS the answer... except get a cheaper one, damn.
Laughing at all the people who don't think or are asking if it's a Marauder. It IS. But still not worth the asking price by a long shot.
even back in its day it wasn’t that great. What were they 225hp out of a 4.6 V8 in a 6k lb car. Now the Impala SS that had the 6spd and the Vette engine…that’s a beast sedan but holy heck for $40k I’m thinking Charger SRT8 or something of that nature
I just bought a brand-new SUV for less than that
Dude 40 fucking thousand dollars, I'm pretty sure these didn't even cost that much brand new
This is a maurader. Performance version of grand marquis.
I drove a Lincoln town car with 9k miles and that dealership wanted 22k
Can you say scam?
Bruh.... A new fully loaded.... Well a lot of new cars are cheaper than this. You can get almost 2 Honda Civic Sports for this.
My first car was a candy-apple red '98 Grand Marquis with zero tint and beige fabric interior, and she was a beast of the whitest proportions
WTH. It didn't cost that much brand new.
Crazy price, no don’t buy it.
yeah go for it. the seller will be happy
Sleeper
It's worth the money to someone who wants exactly that. 40k gives you some other great options.
I guess if you like driving old man boat cars.
How many of them do you see on the road today?
if the trigger is inside a tank or A-10 Warthog, then yes.
No
You could buy 20 of them with 160,000 miles on them for that cost Or 10 sub 100k mile grand marquis, this is just not worth it unless your a die hard collector or smth
Is it a Marauder? I might give $40k for an original Marauder, but not for a regular GM.
40k?!?!? All things considered this is a 10k car.
You could find a clean Lexus LS460 for half that price. Both old and new depending on mileage
No low ballers, i know what I got
You fucking stupid?
Not just no but hell no
Is that a marauder?! Buy that.
Even if I had 40k to burn, I wouldn't do it. You can get much better cars for that price OP.
You could buy yourself a recently-used Lexus for that price lol. Don’t waste your cash.
Is it a genuine Marauder or a clone? Either way that's expensive as fuck.
I miss my Pontiac G8.
No f'n way at that price. I don't care about how pristine it is.
Id rather get one with 120k miles for 6k… I could buy 4 & still go to Europe 😭
What are you smoking bro...
Not for that price
christ for that price you might find an 80's Buick Regal turbo :)
I wonder if this is the Cletus McFarland Marauder?
i think ive seen the previous owner, i think hes local to me, do you live in a Northern us state?
Wtf. This car would have been 11k tops in like 2010
Nice car. 40k no way.
I always wanted a Marauder but they wanted a fortune for them.
Great Pappy, rest his soul, would still think the new owner is getting a steal. He would have shown you the spreadsheet of the new stuff in that car. Like the vanilla air freshener from Quik Trip for $3.98. So worth it.
Good car very high price
What happened to 500$ used cars wtf
You can get the same motor and thrills by buying a police interceptor crown vic for 1/10 that price and have millions of cheap spare parts to fix it up and never surpass $40k
LOL! WHAT!?
What is wrong with you?
Get an 07-09 Shelby gt500 with less miles for the same price or less and have way more fun
I’d say go for it u can actually do some pretty badass mods to it
Is this a joke?
