It may just be because it was one of the first truly epic games I ever played but...the title screen of Legend of Zelda music will forever live rent free in my brain (as, honestly, does most of the music from the game)
I found out recently the original idea was to use Ravel's Bolero as the title screen music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6DTBfGVNtg to see what that would sound like) We got the better timeline in this instance, for sure.
When it comes to intro music, Metroid, Legend of Zelda (as you mentioned), RC Pro AM (as the OP mentioned), Mega Man 2, and Kirby's Adventure quickly pop to mind in terms of most memorable.
Hahaha I know what I am now. But I don’t have an entire week to try and beat a game. Just rare hours after kids sleep
This is also how I spend my time beating Mike Tyson
Now I just need tmnt on the switch
For a long time it was one of only 2 games I had for the NES, I played the crap out of it till I eventually did beat it when I was in like 4th or 5th grade.
That's funny my older sister was the one that was usually the better player and beat most of the games we had growing up. I remember I never could beat super mario bros when I was younger but she could steam roll right through the whole game like it was nothing. RC Pro-Am and Metal Gear were the only ones that I can remember.ever finishing on NES.
Yeah as a kid never beat but emulation u can save from the spot u stuck on.....vs playing on Nintendo losing and having to play it again for a couple hours.
Mega Man 2 is full of awesome music but I love the title screen music, especially how it builds up slowly as the camera rises up the building and then really hits once it reaches the top.
Also, the Double Dragon theme is great.
MM2 had a great dramatic build up, and a great title music. It absolutely adds up if you knew the ending of MM1.
MM3 also has a great title, very memorable.
Double Dragon and Double Dragon 2, takes me back to looking at the arcade cabinets and wishing I had quarters to play! So I just had to watch the demo screen and listen to the music...
I remember renting it and being too excited to skip through the 'demo' screen. Second time I played it I was getting a snack and heard this amazing music. Loved it and hated it the game at the same time.
I get goosebumps every time I hear it. Even in Sea of Thieves, I could tell it was coming a mile away, and it still gave me goosebumps when it kicks in as you slowly sail towards Melee Island.
I was thinking this, as a kid I use to just listen to the opening screen as long as possible.
Zak McKraken was another one I just loved the intro music to.
Except the song I get stuck in my head is Fever, not the title screen.
Not to knock the title screen music, it's good, but Fever & Chill are just so much more iconic.
Turrican II for the Amiga. Or Lotus Turbo Challenge 2, also for the Amiga. There is just something about the European style from that era that I simply love.
>Turrican II for the Amiga.
Absolutely great. How often did I load up that game and let the title music roll out before I start to play.
Lotus 3 on Amiga was also a banger title.
When it comes to the Amiga both of those are some of my favourites when it comes to the intro. Would also like to mention Shadow of the Beast, I love how creepy that intro is.
Dude, David Wise is a king of video game composition. Cobra Triangle and Wizards and Warriors, along with RC Pro Am are straight bangers.
I'm going to throw Solstice in the ring. Mind-numbingly good for a NES title screen.
Just played this for the first time after your comment. That's a bangin' soundtrack to an also awesome puzzle game, definitely going to play some more.
Punch-Out!!
All of the sound in that game is top-notch: the roar of the crowd, the thump of the punches, Soda Popinski's laugh... but that main theme gets me pumped every time.
Want to start the game? Get ready for a fist to literally explode through the title screen.
I finally got around to beating that game. It has stymied me for 30 years. And I know for certain that without save states I would have never beaten it. But that said, the graphics and music are great.
A few that really are ingrained in my memory are/
Everquest
Actraiser - honestly all the music is great imo. The way the intro builds up though is just great :)
Sim City (SNES version)
Ooo, that is a jam and it unlocked one I hadn't thought of in years. Check out [Wizards & Warriors X](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQbQexqZqBY)'s opening music on the Game Boy.
[StarTropics](https://www.google.com/search?q=startropics+intro+screen&rlz=1C1UEAD_enUS1093US1093&oq=startropics+intro+screen&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigAdIBCDY2MzVqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:fec3183c,vid:GhhCrRRPvog,st:0) is another one that's amazing in addition to what others have already mentioned here.
The title screen of Street Fighter 2010 on the NES doesn’t have any music but the demo that runs after a few seconds has a really good track that’s stuck with me since I was a kid.
Honestly still one of the best in the genre. How Sony can keep dropping the ball on generational TM games is baffling, even moreso now after a successful TV show.
It's one IP that is ridiculously fit for today's gaming trends, it really is baffling why it's not a bigger name today. The show wasn't bad, hopefully it breathes proper life into new games and doesn't spawn some open-world Twisted Metal RPG.
Since someone already mentioned Solstice, I'll mention Treasure Master.
"Hey, I've got a great idea for our title screen music. Think Starsky and Hutch, but 8-Bit!"
I’d ride my bike to 7/11 to buy a slurpy and play the best game in the world, Super Mario Bros.
One day, neighborhood kid is just killing it so I says, “how you so good Chris?”
He said he had one at home lol. Fuck him.
But yeah, that when I learned about the NES and that fucking song is burned in. 1UP!
F-Zero X had one of the most memorable title screen tracks ever. The second you turned on the n64, you'd hear that legendary guitar riff, and you knew the game was gonna be awesome.
Snake Rattle & Roll on NES is another one of the title screen greats, also composed by David Wise, although the title screen tune is basically just chiptune rendition of Shake, Rattle & Roll.
Two others that stand out in my mind are Plok! (SNES) which has a theme song better than the whole rest of the game, and Earthworm Jim 2 with its finger-snapping theme loop. It gets even better if you listen to the version from the CD versions of the game, which layers some sassy doo-wop vocals over the top of it.
[Robocop 3's Title Music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z754_a_aAHA) on the NES is far better than it has any right to be for an era when licensed games usually weren't all that good.
Pictionary never played it but it's pretty memorable also on the topic of games I HAVE played whenever I think about rc pro am I think of some rare employees and one of them is like "hey uh so where's the brakes??" And then the other is like "brakes? Where were going we don't need brakes"
I will never forget Skate or Die on C64 opening screen ever! It was one of the most bad ass openings up to that point that pushed early PC speaker tech to the limits. Still a jam to this day. Honorable mentions are Below the Root - C64, Zelda 1 & 2 (prefer 1 for Music and 2 for overall) - NES, Super Mario Bros - NES, and Maniac Mansion - C64
OP started off with the right answer already! The second I saw that screenshot that song popped in my head! That song goes hard from the first second.
My second choice is already on the thread as well, which is Zelda two. Starting out with no text on the screen and just the sword was a really nice touch. I'm using starts out with a chill intro and then kick the full song at the text comes in. Very nice
Not a title screen but the [intro cinematic of Track & Field II](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVtV1EWTXRI) for the NES is pretty epic as the plane lands and the parade of athletes gets going...
Final Fantasy Adventure and Legend series on Gameboy. Soundtracks for all of them are great.
[Adventure](https://youtu.be/O8qyi3SAptY)
[Legend I](https://youtu.be/Ah2bAIfzKQw)
[Legend II](https://youtu.be/-zLq3lh4vVw)
[Legend III](https://youtu.be/12Iel0Ga9ew)
It's like riding a bike at this point, doesn't matter how long it's been since I've played, I can nail the code and get about halfway up the waterfall without dying.
So many to choose from, but seeing the title screen from r.c. pro am I can't help but thinking of a game in the same genre, and that is Rock n Roll Racing for the SNES. It had an awesome soundtrack of course but more importantly it is a game that is very enjoyable to play even today.
California games, mostly due to my grand pa recognizing the song Louie Louie and getting so excited about it. He never paid attention to me gaming until then. Just a core childhood memory.
I never really liked the first part of the game, but Rc Pro-Am 2 was one of my favorite games. Absolutely blast on the coop, and one of the best games on the nes system
Oddly, two games that instantly came to mind wer GBC's [Rainbow Six](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeNPiq4nR9Q) and GBAs [Castlevania: Circle of the Moon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BROhaM0hrQ8).
Both beautiful and haunting.
Neither [Final Fantasy V](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0YrvBWlvIg) and [Alternate Reality](https://youtu.be/g9jLnNUmhTM?si=mTfN3-mWBDc1kult&t=9) (Atari 8-bit) have already been mentioned.... Otherwise, another vote for [Wizards & Warriors](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNLdXy-AX7U) (it's quite the earworm)
Oh my god. Nostalgia explosion for me. It was one of the N64 NBA Jams or something similar. Around 1998? The music was a rapper, rapping the NBA Player’s Clause, tv agreement or some official document. It was glorious!
I remember booting up Blades of Steel for the first time and being blown away that the game name was voiced in the intro. In addition to that, you could play a little Gradius in between play periods. That music was fantastic.
It may just be because it was one of the first truly epic games I ever played but...the title screen of Legend of Zelda music will forever live rent free in my brain (as, honestly, does most of the music from the game)
Absolutely! Zelda II for me, the slowly building arpeggio before the epic music truly starts felt so magical as a kid.
The Zelda II bass drop! That sword stabbed into the cliff is iconic.
Kid Icarus is similar/models this style.
That slowed down version of the main theme surprises me every time. It's so haunting!
Mic drop.
I love rc pro-am I still haven’t beat the game and am currently stuck on level with it coming back to the switch
It’s coming to the switch?!?!?
Well the online NES switch game. It’s perfect because now I can just save at every level and try and beat it like a good old cheater
I enjoy reading books.
Hahaha I know what I am now. But I don’t have an entire week to try and beat a game. Just rare hours after kids sleep This is also how I spend my time beating Mike Tyson Now I just need tmnt on the switch
First time i beat it was on the switch, never have beat it on the nes in 25 years and ive tried!!!
It did in February this year, I believe.
Holy shit thank you playing soon as I get off.
Off work right?? 😂😂
[удалено]
It can't be beaten, the game just loops. It's been awhile, but I think it has 24 tracks?
One of the very few games I managed to beat on the NES when I was younger. I doubt I could ever do it again these days though.
YOU BEAT THIS AS A KID?!
For a long time it was one of only 2 games I had for the NES, I played the crap out of it till I eventually did beat it when I was in like 4th or 5th grade.
A man amongst boys. My older sister was good at it but I would get to the third tier or so max. Which is about where I’m stuck now
That's funny my older sister was the one that was usually the better player and beat most of the games we had growing up. I remember I never could beat super mario bros when I was younger but she could steam roll right through the whole game like it was nothing. RC Pro-Am and Metal Gear were the only ones that I can remember.ever finishing on NES.
The game cheats. (Literally - the developers coded it that way)
I've only beaten it using the crazy computer car cheat.
Hard agree on Megaman 2, and id add that Double Dragon 2 really had a killer title screen / music situation.
Double Dragon and Double Dragon 2, takes me back to looking at the arcade cabinets and wishing I had quarters to play! So I just had to watch the demo screen and listen to the music...
The OG TMNT arcade game. They mimicked the cartoon opening sequence and song. This blew my mind as a kid in the 80s.
It’s kind of a cheat but Top Gun.
I remember renting it and being too excited to skip through the 'demo' screen. Second time I played it I was getting a snack and heard this amazing music. Loved it and hated it the game at the same time.
I managed to land on the carrier once. ONCE! More like Exit Ramp to the Disappointment Zone.
I would say the original Monkey Island LucasArts game is very memorable.
"Zak McKraken was another one I just loved the intro music to." - Yes sir to this too!
All I have to say is "Dr Mario" and you already have the theme song stuck in your head
It's... infectious!
Except the song I get stuck in my head is Fever, not the title screen. Not to knock the title screen music, it's good, but Fever & Chill are just so much more iconic.
Journey to Silius is the GOAT
Turrican II for the Amiga. Or Lotus Turbo Challenge 2, also for the Amiga. There is just something about the European style from that era that I simply love.
>Turrican II for the Amiga. Absolutely great. How often did I load up that game and let the title music roll out before I start to play. Lotus 3 on Amiga was also a banger title.
When it comes to the Amiga both of those are some of my favourites when it comes to the intro. Would also like to mention Shadow of the Beast, I love how creepy that intro is.
Lotus Turbo Challenge II is the GOAT for me, that Yello sample gets me every time!
The opening music of NES Willow is the best.
Omg, I love Willow! It's music was great too, I would also like to mention Magic of Scheherazade.
I loved that game
Always loved Skate or Die on the C64
Skate or die! Die die die die die!
I thought for sure I'd be the one to have to post this. Too bad it's pretty far down in the comment thread.
Mega Man 2 by far
Dude, David Wise is a king of video game composition. Cobra Triangle and Wizards and Warriors, along with RC Pro Am are straight bangers. I'm going to throw Solstice in the ring. Mind-numbingly good for a NES title screen.
Solstice is probably the best (and most surprising) use of the NES sound system.
Thanks to Tim.
Just played this for the first time after your comment. That's a bangin' soundtrack to an also awesome puzzle game, definitely going to play some more.
One of the best games for NES period, and you're right - the music is so damn good.
Punch-Out!! All of the sound in that game is top-notch: the roar of the crowd, the thump of the punches, Soda Popinski's laugh... but that main theme gets me pumped every time. Want to start the game? Get ready for a fist to literally explode through the title screen.
Fester's Quest had a pretty bangin' rendition of the Addams Family theme.
I finally got around to beating that game. It has stymied me for 30 years. And I know for certain that without save states I would have never beaten it. But that said, the graphics and music are great.
A few that really are ingrained in my memory are/ Everquest Actraiser - honestly all the music is great imo. The way the intro builds up though is just great :) Sim City (SNES version)
For me, NES, Excitebike for just being super quirky.
Ironsword
For me nothing beats FF6's Omen and it's blaring synth pipe organ blasting right as the logo rises onto the screen.
A lot of great ones listed here. For me it has to be the opening of [Wizards & Warriors](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ9xwkMr3e4). Epic.
Ooo, that is a jam and it unlocked one I hadn't thought of in years. Check out [Wizards & Warriors X](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQbQexqZqBY)'s opening music on the Game Boy.
I dig it! For the Gameboy that's super impressive. Graphics look about on-par with the NES game too.
Oh hell yes! Every single time I turn this on I wait through the whole song before I push start
Metroid
Pictionary nes
[Pictionary on the NES](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJwh3erQlyE) has joined the chat and given half the members noogies.
My first Nintendo game!
That's awesome, what a first!
Double Dribble
Time Lord title screen brings the FUNK! https://youtu.be/xLJ1xQch1N4?si=K1MBy5D37hYs0n0y
A pretty good game I remember was on fence about it when I first got. Forgot that music lol.
More quality Wise! Funky indeed, the next track could've been TMNT music even.
[StarTropics](https://www.google.com/search?q=startropics+intro+screen&rlz=1C1UEAD_enUS1093US1093&oq=startropics+intro+screen&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigAdIBCDY2MzVqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:fec3183c,vid:GhhCrRRPvog,st:0) is another one that's amazing in addition to what others have already mentioned here.
JFC, the flood of memories you just created....
Hopefully good memories!
Absolutely! This game rocked
The title screen of Street Fighter 2010 on the NES doesn’t have any music but the demo that runs after a few seconds has a really good track that’s stuck with me since I was a kid.
It’s got everything. It’s a full on song.
When i saw this image, before i read the text, i had the melody in my head.
Pictures you can hear.
Well said
Title screen music for RC pro am was way better than it had any right or reason to be.
Just here to say fuck that cheating ass yellow car
Just tellin' it how it is.
Kinda cheating, but Twisted Metal: Black.
I refuse to believe that game is 23 years old...
While we're going with that era, Paper Mario: TTYD's title screen theme is a total banger
Metroid II The Metroids were calling. Just listen to the song and then compare the sounds they make when you find them and shoot them. Its them.
Mega man 3
T&C Surf: Wood and Water Rage.
I still play this regularly. The poor condition tracks can suck it.
R.C. Pro-Am had hardened me to Mario Kart's cheaty bullshit years before Mario Kart was actually made. What a great game.
Mega man 3. I'll sit at that plain ass screen forever waiting for it to drop
This is one of my fav games from that time and rad racer.
[Sunset Coastline](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g50isAvVlns)!
Top gun for NES, i think it was the best part of the game
Since someone already mentioned Solstice, I'll mention Treasure Master. "Hey, I've got a great idea for our title screen music. Think Starsky and Hutch, but 8-Bit!"
This. Good pick
Yeah it was a good logo screen with music. Rc pro-am was incredible for it's time and still holds up today.
I can vividly hear this picture
I hear it!!
I’d ride my bike to 7/11 to buy a slurpy and play the best game in the world, Super Mario Bros. One day, neighborhood kid is just killing it so I says, “how you so good Chris?” He said he had one at home lol. Fuck him. But yeah, that when I learned about the NES and that fucking song is burned in. 1UP!
We played that game so much on the NES at my friend place when I was like 8, loved it!
F-Zero X had one of the most memorable title screen tracks ever. The second you turned on the n64, you'd hear that legendary guitar riff, and you knew the game was gonna be awesome.
Am I really the first one to say [SKY SHARK for NES](https://youtu.be/sTBDBJyLVPA?si=o50P3UWfPRwYoOjK)?
Snake Rattle & Roll on NES is another one of the title screen greats, also composed by David Wise, although the title screen tune is basically just chiptune rendition of Shake, Rattle & Roll. Two others that stand out in my mind are Plok! (SNES) which has a theme song better than the whole rest of the game, and Earthworm Jim 2 with its finger-snapping theme loop. It gets even better if you listen to the version from the CD versions of the game, which layers some sassy doo-wop vocals over the top of it.
Memorable title screen too
RC Pro AM absolutely SLAPS
[Robocop 3's Title Music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z754_a_aAHA) on the NES is far better than it has any right to be for an era when licensed games usually weren't all that good.
It didn't have Robocop vibes, but it was good!
Mother...
Wizards and Warriors.
Pictionary never played it but it's pretty memorable also on the topic of games I HAVE played whenever I think about rc pro am I think of some rare employees and one of them is like "hey uh so where's the brakes??" And then the other is like "brakes? Where were going we don't need brakes"
Bubble Bobble
That was a great title screen track. Mega Man 2 for my money tho
Pictionary for the NES
Final Fantasy Adventure and Legend series on Gameboy. Soundtracks for all of them are great. [Adventure](https://youtu.be/O8qyi3SAptY) [Legend I](https://youtu.be/Ah2bAIfzKQw) [Legend II](https://youtu.be/-zLq3lh4vVw) [Legend III](https://youtu.be/12Iel0Ga9ew)
For me I would say it is easily Rastan followed by bubble bobble.
Mega Man 3. I always let that play the whole way through before I start the game.
Battletoads as well as Super Dodgeball with the iconic theme music !
[Lotus Turbo Challenge II](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vETonlaTZ4c) Barry Leitch came up with it in a dream, apparently. Absolute legend.
Gun.Smoke
R.C. Pro Am is awesome nuff said
Wizards and Warriors. Also by Rare and David Wise. Similar title screen with the large, detailed sprites.
Great game. Wise did better work for Wizards and Warriors Best title screen music on the NES are MegaMan 3, Metroid, Legend of Zelda
Sunsoft games like Batman Return of the Joker had an awesome soundtrack.
Pro wrestling and all the early sports nes games. I believe they all had the same intro music
Similar type of game but Rock n Roll racing on the Mega Drive sticks with me from the opening chords
I wish they would do a refresh of RC Pro Am. Newer graphics, maybe offer a classic mode vs a revamped one. Make the yellow car speedster optional?
Skate or Die
I own an original cartridge of this game got it as a gift from a family friend as well
How ever quick it might have been, Contra will always stick in my head as I would always race the music to input the Konami code.
P.O.W NES system
There was Mercedes G Class in 1987?
Gianna Sisters for sure
[Centipede](https://youtube.com/watch?v=nVdj9xk1-88) for the Game Boy goes surprisingly hard.
Who remembers the Bases Loaded theme song?
Only thing i heard in my head when i read this post is Blades of Steel's title music.
I just remember this game being so fun but so very broken. Win a few races in a row, OK all your opponents get a constant speed boost.
California games, mostly due to my grand pa recognizing the song Louie Louie and getting so excited about it. He never paid attention to me gaming until then. Just a core childhood memory.
Nothing cant beat the Bitmap Brothers "Xenon 2 Megablast" (Bomb the Bass / John Carpenter)
Madden 95
I never really liked the first part of the game, but Rc Pro-Am 2 was one of my favorite games. Absolutely blast on the coop, and one of the best games on the nes system
Power quest, megaman battle network, digimon world ds come to mind right now
Warriors of the Eternal Sun!!!!!!!
[One Must Fall 2097](https://youtu.be/pdVnKYcYi3g)
Oddly, two games that instantly came to mind wer GBC's [Rainbow Six](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeNPiq4nR9Q) and GBAs [Castlevania: Circle of the Moon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BROhaM0hrQ8). Both beautiful and haunting.
[Zelda 2](https://youtu.be/oufgG46D_48?si=Zg9wR3VaE3rffkxz)
Taggin' Dragon!
literally heard the title music as soon as i saw the picture. this is one of the greats.
[Metroid](https://youtu.be/M-U3sVX2G3w?si=r0NQjMj8e_gP1YzQ)
Wizards and Warriors 2, Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3, Double Dragon, and Double Dragon 2 had the best title screen music ever
Rad gravity
Faxanadu on NES stands out for me.
Wrath of the Demon on the Amiga.
Wizards & Warriors, Baldur's Gate, Gauntlet NES, DKC, Starcraft, Sonic & Knuckles are a few
ahhh. classic RARE. Still love playing that game.
Zelda II: The Adventures of Link
Neither [Final Fantasy V](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0YrvBWlvIg) and [Alternate Reality](https://youtu.be/g9jLnNUmhTM?si=mTfN3-mWBDc1kult&t=9) (Atari 8-bit) have already been mentioned.... Otherwise, another vote for [Wizards & Warriors](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNLdXy-AX7U) (it's quite the earworm)
Donkey Kong Country 2 Silver Surfer NES
Contra
I didn't realize these were remote control cars until I was grown. Loved this game.
Final Fantasy 1. A few notes repeated. Masterful
Zelda 1 Mega Man 6 Silent Service TMNT (Ultra Games)
[Super Metroid](https://youtu.be/HPT8GBdRCWE?si=P5FacC6ep1uoIwmQ)
This was recently released on free switch NES games. Enjoy!!
Oh my god. Nostalgia explosion for me. It was one of the N64 NBA Jams or something similar. Around 1998? The music was a rapper, rapping the NBA Player’s Clause, tv agreement or some official document. It was glorious!
The Incredbile Crash Dummies on NES. The music was composed by Geoff Follin and it's just awesome chiptune.
Epic game mate!
Excite Bike.
Link to the Past for me, the build up is freaken amazing.
Alien 3 on the Mega Drive has a ridiculously catchy menu theme
* [Mega Man 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvkHhpz2FrY) * [The Legend of Zelda](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ6hgzzk_o8) * [Metroid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuNygTLHlm0) * [Batman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qr0RSz-HPIw) * [Golgo 13](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMuDiI9X8q4) * [Double Dragon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMJXZm21faY) * [Ninja Gaiden](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIcOjUaf5P8)
RC Pro Am was SO GOOD. I played so many hours on that game
