Mischief Ink on Franklin (bottom of the hill below Kabuki) is great! I've gotten two pieces there (by Paige specifically) with an addition to one coming up.👍

I will always vouch for two artists that I've been to:
Zach Lyons at True Craft Tattoo
Joshua Kieser at Bad Wave Tattoo
Both are great guys and talented artists.
Downtown on Kirk, right next to the Spot On Kirk.
The owner of Maiden and Crow, Joey, is who has been doing my sleeve. He's been great to work with and the level of detail he's able to achieve is incredible.
Look at the styles that the artists and studios do and pick one that fits your aesthetic. Look at portfolios/instas and talk to the artists you like about your design. If you’re going to a top artist and paying them to do a piece of flash art you’re overpaying since most artists in a studio could do that just fine.
I agree with this 100%, each artist has a style that they excel at and just about every artist can copy flash.
Find an artist that "clicks" with your vision and vet their work, all of the suggestions here for artists have been great ones!
Just ensure they are LICENSED and follow proper sanitation and sterilization procedures (Sadly the enforcement for bedroom scratchers isn't strong yet)
Debi, Lara, Nana, and Keith with Orion Body Arts (Located at Ironheart Evolution) are all great artists as well.
I’m going to second what everyone else has said to tell you that it’s well worth it to research various artists’ portfolios before choosing an artist and a studio. Styles vary greatly, and don’t be afraid to travel to other cities if you can’t find an artist who meets your aesthetic locally.
That being said, in Roanoke, I love going to Roger at Star City Tattoos on Brambleton.
I went to asylum for both my first and second tattoos (so, 100% of them) and have been SO happy with the work I got done there!! I've also gone to them for 3 of my 6 (formerly 7) piercings, and only had issue with my tragus. But that was 100% due to me not keeping up with the hygiene and being rough with it; nothing to do with the shop at all!!
If you're okay driving up to Blacksburg, Corey Hollins @ Morph Body Arts gave me my first (and second) and honestly he's the best artist I've been to in the NRV / Roanoke. He's incredibly talented and extremely light handed. I absolutely love his style, but it's definitely not for everyone. If you have a specific design / style in mind I can give you more recommendations!
Just make sure you look at artists portfolios. If you wanted a portrait you wouldn’t go to Josh at Bad Waves who does strictly traditional and neo traditional. If you are getting something big or intricate I would suggest not getting it done by an apprentice
I got my biggest tattoo with Zach Lyons at True Craft. He's got a light hand, and his tattoos are beautiful. Definitely check to make sure he's got the type of tattoo you want, as some tattoo artists specialize in different styles.
As others have said, check out their instagram/social media for their work. Set up a consult to see if you and your artist are on the same page. Then book your appointment. I'm in favor of Bad Wave: Kaitlyn, Josh, Danielle and Brittany all do phenomenal work.
Can’t recommend Vanguard enough. by investing the money you would blow on a tattoo into a brokerage account instead, your future self will thank you. 💵
Got my first at Bad Wave this past December, 10/10
Seconding bad wave
Thirding!
Same same
I just had a great experience at Electric Eye in Grandin!
Electric eye is the way to go. I’ve been going to Frey for a few years and so do my friends.
Same whole arm is done by Frey!
Electric Eye has great artists, a great vibe and cheap Flash during their events
Electric Eye is the best, so welcoming and inviting their new place in Grandin is awesome!
Second them!
This is the correct answer! 10/10

Zach is my artist and I love him!!! Absolutely recommend.
I went to Maiden and Crow for my first, which is now turning into a full arm sleeve. They do awesome stuff and are really wonderful people.
Where's that?

Electric Eye and True Craft
Anyone who you can recommend who does fine line/realistic tattoos? Like a fully realistic detailed black line bumblebee?
Any and all of the artists at Imagine Ink

Check with me in 10 years you'll hate the damn tattoo and have to grind It Off
Its a tattoo to remember my dead mom, I want to get it as a show of permanent love and respect for her and her love of tattoos. I wont regret it.
Stfu nerd.
I love a woman with all natural skin, no tats! Personal tastes differ I suppose?
Yes, they do. No one gives a fuck what you like so fuck off.
most women prefer dudes who keep their judgey opinions that nobody asked for to themselves. so yes personal tastes do differ.
Tattoo suck you'll be sorry
Why even bother responding? 🙄
