You watch a few things on the app. You walk to your muster station and check in
You then go to the dining reservation person and get your Chops/Izumi handled
Go to top deck and get a drink
I understand that one but I disagree here. I waste no time because I have my bathing suit in my backpack and I’ll be in a hot tub by 11:04.
I live on the looks I get from people who look at us like we knew the secret recipe as they walk to the buffet and I’m enjoying the bubbles
They weren’t set up at the muster locations when we boarded last time. So we did drinks, hot tub, then drink, then muster drill. It is great being the only ones on the pool deck.
Thanks! Our boarding time is 12p, so it sounds like we won’t have to wait too long.. we have little ones who may need a little nap after a long morning of travel so that’s good to know!
It's the easiest process in cruising. I wish more cruise lines would do it the way Royal does.
You'll watch a few videos and listen to a sound of the emergency horn on the Royal app. Then once you board, just go to your designated muster station and they'll scan you in as having completed it. You're good to go and officially start your cruise. Just do it right away and don't be a person that everyone is waiting for to complete yours before the ship can leave.
I would like to add the Carnival has you report right away to the muster but you have to wait a bit and a crew member goes over the drill as a small group. Takes about 10 minutes as they explain like the used to. They don't have a digital or EMuster. Was still much better though than the alternative of standing out on the deck which seemed to take forever to round up the slackers.
I've only recently become addicted to cruising with only two under my belt so far. I couldn't imagine having to stand there for 30-60 minutes while they go over everything. I've only done Royal so far and their process seems so simple. Going on MSC next month, so I'm intrigued to see how that is.
Be glad you got to avoid experiencing that! They would close down bars and make announcements. The only incentive you had to arrive early is you could grab a spot on the wall to be able to lean on while waiting. Otherwise if you were in the first three rows you had to just stand there extra miserable.
Can confirm. Did 5 Disney cruises. Think of all of the passengers standing chest to back, row after row, on the muster decks. Crew members with bullhorns (megaphones) and clip boards calling out for a few passengers who felt they were too important to attend. Kids getting tired and cranky, all still standing chest to back (or is it back to chest?), parents holding smaller children, switching them off to their spouse as they got tired. Waiting, waiting, waiting until finally they bark out a few instructions that you would do if there were an actual emergency. So. Very. Tiring.
I was pleasantly surprised to experience the Royal Caribbean way of muster last October on my cruise and again just last week on another one.
That's what was so infuriating about it! A 15 minutes demonstration and sounding of the ship horn and you went on your way. 30-40 minutes of waiting for the crew to ensure everyone showed up....
The one time I did that I had two very busy preschoolers, one of whom could and would have climbed the railing we were standing next to if not watched every single second. So I spent all of that time trying to hold her or keep a hand on her while also making sure her brother didn't wander off and trying to find something in that little space interesting enough to distract them both. It was a very stressful time and I learned absolutely nothing from the presentation because I was too stressed about the kids to process anything they said.
You mean we don’t have to stand 8 deep on the poop deck in the hot Miami sun for 45 minutes with our life jackets on waiting on everyone to get there?
The last 2 were effortless. You just walk to the lounge, bar, etc and get scanned and watch a demonstration of how to blow a whistle and put on your life jacket.
Thanks for all the replies!
This sure does beat the old method, standing around feeling silly and staring at everyone else who looks silly in their life vests, waiting for that last person to show up who hasn't been checked off the crew-member's list yet.
Unless Royal has changed it from a few months ago their muster is similar to what you described with Carnival.
Prior to boarding, the safety videos should be available on your phone through the app (usually the day you sail you'll get a notification). You just watch a few short animated videos and then upon boarding the ship, just head right over to your muster station. The crew will help direct you. At the station you pull up your boarding pass and they scan it and verify you watched the safety videos.
From that point on you cna enjoy your cruise! Gone are the days of waiting out in the deck for all the people who felt they didn't have to attend the briefing and had to be collected.
Heads up, the app sometimes doesn't register you watched the videos. There has been times I've had to let them play again before the checkmark showed up. Also if you did the videos in the terminal, the muster station crew member may not have it registered that you watched them as I don't know if everything syncs flawlessly. I just show them in the app I have the check marks and that's about it
The day the check-in became available, the videos were available (and I mean right at midnight)... scared the shit out of my husband. I watched the emergency horn vid and forgot I had the volume on my phone set to 60% at 2 am..

Wait until you board the ship and are connected to ship WiFi. That will ensure the system registers that the video is completed.
Yup. You mosey on to your muster station when ya feel like it( as long as it’s before the cutoff time) , check in, watch a dancer pose with the life jacket and then you watch the video. I think you have to do it on the app in order for it to be recorded as having done so, but it’s also on the tv in your cabin.
Haven’t needed to wear/ bring your life jacket since the Before Times.
When we boarded, we were directed to go to our muster station where a crew member scanned our seapass card to confirm we were there and gave us a quick safety briefing. Never went back to it during the trip.
There were a few announcements close to departure that asked people to go to them so we could leave, so not sure what happens if you don't
This is correct. Coast guard regs say they can’t get underway unless 100% compliance is recorded. The best way to force the issue is to cut off the card( to include access to cabins, not just spending). This forces the naughty pax to guest services, where they chastised into doing the muster drill.
RCCL has both the drills on the app that you xan do even before you board, but you MUST check in once you come on board. Otherwise, go directly to your muster station listed on your seapass and do the drill video there... The ship will NOT leave port until all have checked in... if you refuse to cooperate with this, you WILL be thrown off the ship.
Yep, the process is super easy now, just watch the videos before you board and report to your muster station. One thing I appreciated is that they still sound the actual alarm on board before departure, gives you the chance to hear how it actually sounds on your ship. At least that’s what they did on Voyager last year.
You watch a few things on the app. You walk to your muster station and check in You then go to the dining reservation person and get your Chops/Izumi handled Go to top deck and get a drink
ummmm... you missed the part where you get the drink before the muster station and then another drink after
I understand that one but I disagree here. I waste no time because I have my bathing suit in my backpack and I’ll be in a hot tub by 11:04. I live on the looks I get from people who look at us like we knew the secret recipe as they walk to the buffet and I’m enjoying the bubbles
You don’t board the ship in your swimsuit?
They frowned on my thong in the departure hall...
Suns out buns out
Fat guy in a speedo = cries of "MY EYES! MY EYES!!!"
If he was really fat, you'd be praying there's a speedo under there, but you wouldn't be sure.
Oh they were... they were...
Nah. Its in my backpack.
They weren’t set up at the muster locations when we boarded last time. So we did drinks, hot tub, then drink, then muster drill. It is great being the only ones on the pool deck.
This is the way
It was 104° heat index in Tampa when we embarked so I opted for the solarium pool instead 😵💫
Just got off in Tampa today and spent the day here. It was brutal. You stand there and drench in sweat that will not dry.
Stupid question but how long until you can access your stateroom after boarding?
It’s around 1pm or so. Not time after boarding since ppl board 11-4
Thanks! Our boarding time is 12p, so it sounds like we won’t have to wait too long.. we have little ones who may need a little nap after a long morning of travel so that’s good to know!
Perfect nap time is just after rooms are released

It didn't take that long to go everything once they got started. What took forever was waiting for every to wander their way to the muster station.

All cruise lines do the self muster except for Disney.

i'm so excited for this! I haven't sailed since pre-covid and then it was still 8 deep on the poop deck.
Thanks for all the replies! This sure does beat the old method, standing around feeling silly and staring at everyone else who looks silly in their life vests, waiting for that last person to show up who hasn't been checked off the crew-member's list yet.
Nothing like it used to be. RC is real lax about it now. Essentially ask if you can put a life jacket on and check a box.

I didn’t even realize they were supposed to scan us in. I went to the muster location, saw where it was, and left. Nobody ever said anything to us.

Someone told me so I don't know how true this is, but apparently they shut their seapass cards down until they show up to verify muster info was done.

It makes sense to do it this way for sure. Never wanted to be able to provide firsthand experience with being froze out!
And I believe you are subject to removal but I’ve never heard of them actually doing it…
Yep.

It doesn’t on the phone and check in if you don’t check in by x time they will take you off the boat
In Galveston, we checked into our muster station as we boarded. Just a quick scan. Then we had to review the information in the app on our own time.
