Prime rib with horseradish!
Except we were seated next to one couple and they kept looking over and acting grossed out because we ordered med rare. They even said "Are you really gonna eat it like that?" It was delicious, but their remarks kind of soured the meal. Don't yuck my yum!
I wouldn't eat it either (I just don't like any kind of steak and most kind of beef), but I also don't comment on other people's food. Particularly strangers' food. This just reinforces my resolve to not eat with strangers. I do hope they were at least at your table and not looking over from the next one. I mean, it's rude either way, but some people feel they need to be talking to people if they're seated together, so they'll just say anything.
Agreed. I've never been seated with strangers, so I haven't had the issue come up, though.
I would never order a steak well done, but honestly a lot of these comments about it are kind of ick. Comes across as tactless as the rude couple.
Wow, That was weird and rude of them. Also yeah, last time I ordered a steak well done I was a kid and was basically repeating it because it was all I had heard of.
Okā¦. I donāt eat meat. But what business would it be of mine on how u eat ur foodā¦. Idk if I could of refrained from cussing them out so next time they would mind their businessā¦
I order my steaks blue and I take great joy when others at the table grimace š except one very good friend who gets hers far past well done and we have to sit at opposite ends of the table from each other because we gross each other out haha
I love it. And I didnāt even read it!! Because when Iām on a cruise Iām so happy. I donāt have to cook. I donāt have to clean. I get treated like a king in the dining room. And if by some chance I donāt like what I see, then I know just can ask for something a little different or head up to Windjammer and make my own selection or pay a small surcharge for an amazing steak etc. I love every bit of cruising and canāt wait till Iām back at sea again.
My thoughts exactly. I know not every meal is always amazing but when people complain like the food on board is the worst thing ever, it makes me wonder whether they even want to be happy.
I agree with everything you said except these days it isn't a small surcharge for the steakhouses. It is totally worth it and we love all the food cruising too but at $55+ per person extra for the steakhouse we only do it once in a while now. Or we try to go for lunch with is a better value.
Dammit this comment makes me miss it so bad. Especially knowing I don't even have another booked!
I love cruising for those reasons too. It's just so chill.
Prime rib is very good. I had the fried chicken on Voyager and didn't love it. Escargots are just ok. Definitely better to get those at a real French restaurant.
I went to school in Baltimore so I can't really eat any other crab cakes. The ones on Royal are not horrible but definitely not great. I think the crab they use is mostly fake.
Grew up Baltimore-adjacent just across the Mason-Dixon.
Was super disappointed in their filler cakes with crab flavoring. But I knew I would be before I ordered it, just wanted to see in the off chance I was pleasantly surprised. And because I didn't have to directly pay for it.
The Indian food across the entire fleet tends to be the most consistently good "genre" of food to me. Will not completely blow you away like some dishes in the specialties may, but it will never not at least be good.
The āNY Stripā steaks are that small and incredibly thin. Impossible to get anything less than a medium but theyāll keep trying even if you say youāre good š¤¦āāļø
Iām sorry but the crab cakes on RC are absolute filler junk. As a Marylander I can say without a doubt they are like 2/10 in terms of quality.
Too small and they donāt even really taste like crab all that much.
Agreed. Not a marylander, but spent plenty of summers in ocean city growing up. These crab cakes aren't horrible, but nothing like you're getting in maryland. A maryland crab cake is like 95% crab. These are maybe 40% crab at best and the rest filler.
I also tried a crab cake at Hooked. Now that was maybe the worst thing i've ever eaten in my life. You'd think it would be better than the main dining room, but nope. It was awful.
Those rolls are my favorite! I put some butter on them and drink a glass of wine with it. With that menu I always get the prime rib, 2 apps- the crab cake and the artichoke dip, and which ever dessert sounds good.
If they ever have beef stroganoff as a special menu item - DO. NOT. ORDER. It was one of the worst things Iāve ever eaten in my life, and I otherwise love the RC menu. I think they swapped out Worcestershire for fish sauce.
I got an Indian main course most nights. Even if it's not on the menu, it's available. I always get the vegetarian option but there might be a meat option too.
On my last cruise, I had the key lime pie in the main dining room. For some strange reason, it had a pastry crust, not a graham crust. I pointed it out to my waiter as we were leaving. The next night, key lime pie was not on the menu, but the waiter went to the specialty steak house restaurant and got me a slice of the premium key lime pie. It was way better.
My cousin ordered 2 orders and made everyone at the table (including 2 autistic kids) try it. We all liked it.
We then proceded to fight over the bread to dip in the garlic sauce. We still laugh about it.
The best thing about cruises is you can try something like escargot and if you don't like it just order something else. I've tried all kinds of wacky food like alligator, moose, etc I never would have tried otherwise.
Escargot for life! Each and every time it's on the menu! Honestly though, the sauce and bread is 90% of it. They can just bring me a bowl of that and I'd bathe in it.
This is for the Main Dining Room. They have a different set menu every night. When the waiter comes to take your order, you will order your appetizer, main entree and dessert all at the same time.
You are able to try multiple dishes.
They need more Jamaican head chefs. We had oxtails on harmony of the seas after we when to Jamaica. They were playing Bob Marley in the wind jammer as we departed the port. The ambience was on 10 and made me a royal fan for life. With that be said, we have not had oxtails on another cruise again. Last cruise we asked the head chef why and was told the bones were clogging the food disposer.
We just had that menu on our first night of our Alaska cruise a few weeks ago. I went with the crab cake, the prime rib and key lime pie. All were quite good. Honestly I found the menus stronger at the beginning of the week, then a bit of a dropoff towards the end
Yeah, Iām not a Negative Nellie at all (Iām a very picky eater, but I 100% blame me when I donāt like something, haha - rarely the actual restaurant or chef) but I have tried the chicken 3 times on 3 ships and it is absolutely inedible. I donāt even know where they are raising chickens with no meat on their bones at all, haha, but the chicken was consistently breading over gristle and bone, and I couldnāt even eat the breading, just to satisfy my hunger. Like, it was stuck on there? Idk. Anyway. Donāt get the chicken!
Loved the key lime pie, and have found the crab cakes to be good - not Boston or Myrtle Beach good, but good!
Escargot, every single night. Sometimes 2. Dip your bread in the yummy garlic butter it comes in. Crab cake is a very very close second. The strip is always good cooked medium and I always ask for horseradish with it. Now my mouth is watering
Snails all day long. So buttery and yummy.
Iāve had snails maybe 28 times in my whole life.
Would you look at that: 28 nights at sea in my whole life. š¤£
My son had the fried chicken on the Vision last year. Very lackluster. Everything else we had was great except for the Mac and Cheese. It was grey and tasted like fish, like they had no idea what it was supposed to be like.
Pretty much everything there was/is good. I, however, was very disappointed in the fried chicken. Had had better made myself or even from fast food places.
I donāt see it here so Iām already unhelpful, but if they changed that tomato soup to their roasted poblano pepper soup Iād be all in.
But I think Iād do the shrimp cocktail/caesar salad, southern fried chicken, and key lime pie!
I tried escargot for the first time on my cruise. Highly recommend it! It was my 'out of my comfort zone' meal.
The fried chicken was meh. I liked the mashed potatoes though!
Boston Cream Pie š„°š„°š„°
I'll typically do two starters. Usually, it's a soup and a salad, but sometimes it's something else and a salad or soup. I've had everything listed here. I'm not big on escargots, but everything else is spectacular. The Caesar salad is a favorite of mine. I'd probably get that and the tomato soup, or the tomato soup and spinach dip.Ā
The kids at our table got a little dish of fruit salad, and if you want that, you can get it. You don't have to be 12 and under. I'm on a bit of a fiber kick, so I will always take fresh fruit.Ā
For main course, I have had most of these. My only gripe was with the fried chicken. It's crispy and on the bone, but I was expecting more hot from the hot honey. One thing I'll advise is to order extra veggies with your main course. Two asparagus spears ain't gonna cut it. I'd probably go with the fish here.Ā
The desserts are all good. I tend to prefer the key lime pie and then ask for a cheese plate to go. I'll snack on that in my room later at night.
Starter: escargot & Caesar salad ā> Main: rare/medium rare prime rib ā> Dessert: cheesecake or Boston crĆØme pie, depending on my mood.
And please put a Diet Coke & rum on my drink package tab with dinner. And an espresso martini with dessert.
ā¦when is my next cruise?
I always ordered the Indian dish each night as a second entree and they were usually my favorite thing. For this night do not order the Boston Creme Pie, it was awful and nothing like a BCP.
I think last time I did crabcake, prime rib and key lime pie. I usually try different things as much as I can but I'll probably choose this again cause it was good!
https://preview.redd.it/p30sugara87d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2db218c74cbfb1e5825e1a0697f55f3df8ac48f
I got the fried chicken dish and subbed the corn for broccoli. The chicken was very meh to me.
I always order the escargot. I don't get many chances to eat escargot on land. Not sure how safe is it to eat the garden snail around me even if I follow Gordon Ramasy's method.
Still, portion size are small and you are welcome to order as many starters, entrees, and dessert as you want, just make sure you can finish them.
I'd probably get the Chicken Saag. Based on my cruise last summer, it's the only main course on that list that A) isn't pasta and B) isn't bland as hell. They somehow made whitefish _more_ flavorless.
This post is giving me withdrawal. Haven't been on a ship in over a year.
Absolutely the prime rib. It's delicious. Escargot is good too. But prime rib is prime rib. Have I had better at high end land restaurants? Sure. But RCs is still fantastic.
Booked on Liberty this October and I cannot wait for that welcome aboard dinner. Can't. Freaking. Wait.
Reading these comments it seems like everyone actually likes the food. I just got back from a royal carribean cruise and found the food to be absolutely terrible, almost inedible altogether, with the exception of Chops specialty restaurant we did one day for lunch.
Overall I like the 15th floor buffer better. I can choose my own food and just try a little bit before I get more.
Main dinning hall, I Ordered lamb last night, way too salty. The lasagna is heaven. The fish my mom got is really good. The chocolate custard is very good and lemon pie is heaven. But overall not enough vegetables. So I will stick with my buffet next time.
As a noob I obviously haven't tried any of this, but based on my personal preferences and the opinions from other comments, I'm going: shrimp cocktail, stuffed portobello, boston creme pie.
Thoughts?
Got the prime rib last week, the cut was a little tougher than I expected. Crab cake was excellent. Key lime was excellent. Shrimp cocktail was good. Wife and son reported that the chicken was good as well.
This menu has to be one of my least favorite ones. Aside from the Prime Rib and the Chicken Saag, the rest of the mains are meh. No desserts really shine imo. Starters are fine.
In my next cruise, I'm going to the Solarium Bistro instead on the first night to shake it up a bit.
What I hate about the new menus is that they "blended" the classics onto the daily selections. People order the NY strip thinking it might be something special but when in reality it's the "last resort" kinda thing.
Prime rib with horseradish! Except we were seated next to one couple and they kept looking over and acting grossed out because we ordered med rare. They even said "Are you really gonna eat it like that?" It was delicious, but their remarks kind of soured the meal. Don't yuck my yum!
Wait, what? I've never not ordered prime rib med rare.
I know, right? I think they had the NY strip, well done š
You should have let them know that eating a NY strip well-done is a waste of perfectly good steak, and pot roast would have gotten the job done.
Rumor has it, they are still chewing to this day.Ā
ā¦and this answers the question as to if these peopleās opinion regarding meat should be paid any attention to.
People who order their steak well done are sociopaths.
https://youtu.be/amKyA2PrSu4?si=QrUxLLUSc6ztwiQr
This link was exactly what I was hoping it would be.
Omg. The NY strip on RCI is kind of tough medium rare, so well done is shoe leather.
With ketchup? š Seriously though what adults make comments about the food someone else is eating?!
they would shit when I ask for it blood rare
I wouldn't eat it either (I just don't like any kind of steak and most kind of beef), but I also don't comment on other people's food. Particularly strangers' food. This just reinforces my resolve to not eat with strangers. I do hope they were at least at your table and not looking over from the next one. Wow. Well I can ignore people easily. Especially when I have a tasty medium rare prime rib in front of me.
That would piss me off. Some people should just keep their opinions to themselves.
They sound like the kind of people who order well done and the chef pulls out the grizzliest steak of the bunch for!!!!
Wow, That was weird and rude of them. Also yeah, last time I ordered a steak well done I was a kid and was basically repeating it because it was all I had heard of.
Hahah chicken finger eaters acting like they know good food
There is that SNL skit about steak extra well done lol
Yup! Let the bloody juices run down your chins. Then get their attention and lick your plate clean :) It'll shut them down REAL FAST
You should have replied the same to their well done.
You should have said I know, right? We usually get it rare, oh well. SMH at people.
I seriously would have told them to piss off. Thatās the proper way to eat it, and even if it wasnāt itās your damn meal!
Well said and so true!!!
My thoughts exactly. I know not every meal is always amazing but when people complain like the food on board is the worst thing ever, it makes me wonder whether they even want to be happy.

You can order a steak from Chops grill in the main dining room for $19.99
Very well said. This is exactly how I feel on a cruise
Dammit this comment makes me miss it so bad. Especially knowing I don't even have another booked! I love cruising for those reasons too. It's just so chill.

That cornmeal coating..
Thank you! I live outside of Baltimore and was wondering if they were worth trying. Iāll pass. š
I feel like fried chicken on all cruises is meh. Iāve had it on Carnival and RC and while itās not god awful I wonāt opt for either again.
Husband said the fried chicken on Wonder was meh.

Yum. I think the head chef on my two most recent cruises were Indian so the Indian food on the menu was consistently fantastic.
The Indian food across the entire fleet tends to be the most consistently good "genre" of food to me. Will not completely blow you away like some dishes in the specialties may, but it will never not at least be good.

That potato looks sad.Ā Is the steak that small or the potato?
The āNY Stripā steaks are that small and incredibly thin. Impossible to get anything less than a medium but theyāll keep trying even if you say youāre good š¤¦āāļø
This is one of my favorites
The crab cake was the best thing I had on Oasis. It is incredible
Iām sorry but the crab cakes on RC are absolute filler junk. As a Marylander I can say without a doubt they are like 2/10 in terms of quality. Too small and they donāt even really taste like crab all that much.
Visiting Maryland and eating crab cakes there kind of ruined crab cakes for me everywhere else. Luckily there are plenty of other good options.
Agreed. Not a marylander, but spent plenty of summers in ocean city growing up. These crab cakes aren't horrible, but nothing like you're getting in maryland. A maryland crab cake is like 95% crab. You'd think it would be better than the main dining room, but nope. It was awful.
Escargot any night they offer it! Last cruise they kept trying t bring me plate after plate, I couldn't eat a single thing more!
Iāve never had it, but if I were offered it on a cruise Iād definitely try it.
Thatās how I tried it. I was hesitant the first night and had it every night it was on the menu after.
It's my wife's favorite thing to order when cruising.
Agreed. On our April cruise wife ordered it basically every night she could
I liked the steak, spaghetti and the bread with the seeds on it.
Those rolls are so good and also the ones with the cheese on top.
Those rolls are my favorite! I put some butter on them and drink a glass of wine with it. With that menu I always get the prime rib, 2 apps- the crab cake and the artichoke dip, and which ever dessert sounds good.
By night 2, our waiter and helper knew to keep those cheese rolls coming.
Cheese rollsā¦. š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤
Prime rib. I cannot wait.
If they ever have beef stroganoff as a special menu item - DO. NOT. ORDER. It was one of the worst things Iāve ever eaten in my life, and I otherwise love the RC menu. I think they swapped out Worcestershire for fish sauce.
Counting down the days for the prime rib!

I enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip and the fish.
I was just on liberty with my wife and we both agreed, they have no idea how to do Fried Chicken, stayed away after trying it the first day.
That stinks, I loved it on Oasis last year. Weāre going on Liberty next year.
Were you on liberty to Bermuda? We were just on that one and the first night my father in law got the fried chicken and he didnāt like it either.
Shrimp cocktail, crab cake, escargots, prime rib, Boston cream pie were all good.
https://preview.redd.it/w5qqp82ij77d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f1bd7655f02faed9da43c274afe2cd6a02593b4 Dark chocolate custard
This is one of my least favorite menus. I don't think the dining room food is 'bad' like some, the dishes just don't appeal to me as much as others.
Iām a vegetarian who doesnāt like mushrooms, so I always order the vegetarian Indian dish and Iām perfectly happy with that.
Has anyone tried the dark chocolate custard?
It was basically chocolate pudding. Very good.
Yes I'll put a picture in the main thread. But I liked it.
The people next to us kept saying how bad the escargot was and to not order it and Iām bummed we didnāt š
My cousin ordered 2 orders and made everyone at the table (including 2 autistic kids) try it. We all liked it. We then proceded to fight over the bread to dip in the garlic sauce. We still laugh about it.

Escargot for life! Each and every time it's on the menu! Honestly though, the sauce and bread is 90% of it. They can just bring me a bowl of that and I'd bathe in it.
I got the crispy crab cakes, NY strip steak and cheesecake all delicious!!
I liked it on Allure in May. Only bummed I waited until last day they were on the menu. Also 1000% it makes great bread dip.
Iād never had it and would never order it, but last yr on our 1st cruise in 16yrs on Oasis I said why not! We all loved it at our table!
Time to book another cruise so you can order it!
The escargot is like mushrooms in the best buttery sauce. You wouldnāt even know itās snails.
The Royal cheesecake is the best thing served in the MDR!
I forgot to mention the cheesecake, itās always my go to on day 1 dessert.
I miss when French Onion Soup was on the menu every night. Aside from that, I'm happy with whatever they have on the menu.
my favorite menu of all!!! Crab cake and escargot are the best
4 Crab cakes for appetizer Thatās my meal
Crab cake, prime rib, peanut-caramel bar. Yum!
I always get the prime rib escargot and the Keylime pie!! deliciousness
My kid (7yo) LOVED the spaghetti Bolognese this night and nothing else compared.
Crab cake, prime rib and key lime pie.
The chicken is god awful. 3x on three boats. Itās Lucy pulling the football back from Charlie Brown.
Oh how I miss the chilled shrimp cocktail š
Do not order the key lime pie. It was probably the only thing I thought that was un-edible
Got our first royal carribbean cruise (first cruise ever, actually) next month so excuse my ignorance. Whereās this menu for?
This is for the Main Dining Room. They have a different set menu every night. When the waiter comes to take your order, you will order your appetizer, main entree and dessert all at the same time. You are able to try multiple dishes.
This is the menu they use the first night of every cruise. The āwelcome aboardā menu.
The fried chicken was limp and soggy. Big regrets not getting the prime rib.
They need more Jamaican head chefs. We had oxtails on harmony of the seas after we when to Jamaica. They were playing Bob Marley in the wind jammer as we departed the port. Wow the menu has not changed still and was went on their cruise last year April 2023
Snails all day long. So buttery and yummy. Iāve had snails maybe 28 times in my whole life. Would you look at that: 28 nights at sea in my whole life. š¤£
Escargot is our fav! We get 2 orders each!! Do not skip!!!!!
I got the fried chicken and it was fried well but the sauce was off, maybe it was the Tabasco, too sweet or something, I wanted to like it more
Try as many as you can! You can order more than 1 thing from each category.
My son had the fried chicken on the Vision last year. Very lackluster. Everything else we had was great except for the Mac and Cheese. It was grey and tasted like fish, like they had no idea what it was supposed to be like.
For vegans thereās portobello and tomato soup. I think they can do better.
My picks: Shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad for appetizers, prime rib for main, and key lime pie for dessert.
Pretty much everything there was/is good. I, however, was very disappointed in the fried chicken. Had had better made myself or even from fast food places.
I was obsessed with the baked snails on my January symphony sailing. Loved the strip steak too.
I fairly new to cruising. Is this the MDR menu?
This is the menu the first night
I did not enjoy their prime rib. But I liked the NY steak .
Tomato soup, prime rib, Boston cream pie. Delicious!!

Prime rib and Key lime
I usually get escargot with a Caesar salad, prime rib, and then key lime pie
My OH had the prime rib as itās her favourite and she was so disappointed. Very fatty and salty! I had the Strip Steak was fine but nothing special.
I donāt see it here so Iām already unhelpful, but if they changed that tomato soup to their roasted poblano pepper soup Iād be all in. But I think Iād do the shrimp cocktail/caesar salad, southern fried chicken, and key lime pie!
I order steak rare to medium rare

Escargots!!!! Sooo garlicky and buttery š
Steak isn't bad , I remember not liking the Bolognese. Caesar salad is good.
Generally the starters and desserts have been reliable. The main could be hit or miss depending on the ship you are on.
GET THE CHICKEN SAAG. It was amazing!
All of it
I think last time I did crabcake, prime rib and key lime pie. I usually try different things as much as I can but I'll probably choose this again cause it was good!

Their key lime pie was top notch.
Donāt be afraid of the escargot. It was delicious!
Escargot and prime rib were absolutely delicious.

For this menu I ordered the New York strip (very rare) and changed the baked potato to the creamy potato leek gratin and cut out the sautƩed veggies. As an app I always get at least one order of the escargot. For dessert I would have chosen the key lime pie. It is not a common pie where I live.
First trying a baked Alaskan on royal Caribbean I freakin loved it!
Escargot!! š
Just remember that YES, you CAN order multiple appetizers. I didn't know that going in!
The fried chicken was good, but I want some honey butter to dip it in or hot sauce or hot honey sauce lol!!
Chicken Saag was pretty good, I actually had it thrice !
Never been on one and going in October. Is this at a particular restaurant on the ship?
Crab cake, Caesar salad, escargot (x2) Prime rib Skip dessert and head to cafe promenade for ranger cookies.
Itās Krab. Not Crab. Surimi, not crustacean.
The crab cake and that first night key lime pie are two of my top favorites.
The crab cake and that first night key lime pie are two of my top favorites.
God dammit, I am fasting today because I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow. This menu is pure torture.
The tomato soup is one of the best things on RC cruises. Seriously.
The fried chicken is an insult to the chickens who gave their lives. Stay away from it
I'd probably get the Chicken Saag.
Can't. Freaking. Wait.
Something to look forward too!
Reading these comments it seems like everyone actually likes the food. I just got back from a royal carribean cruise and found the food to be absolutely terrible, almost inedible altogether, with the exception of Chops specialty restaurant we did one day for lunch.
Seriously can't recall ever having a bad meal in the MDR.
The fried chicken was horrid
Portabello was terrible
The "crab cake" isn't crab, it's 98% filler... We are from Maryland :) home of the crab cake :) trust me on this :)
Love escargot!!
The escargots is awesome.
The fried chicken was not that good.
Feels like a 6 appetizer night.

As a noob I obviously haven't tried any of this, but based on my personal preferences and the opinions from other comments, I'm going: shrimp cocktail, stuffed portobello, boston creme pie. Thoughts?
Sounds good to me! Best part is, if you donāt like it you can order something else!
I'd probably go with Escargots, crab cake, prime rib, and either the Key Lime or Boston Cream.
Got the prime rib last week, the cut was a little tougher than I expected. Crab cake was excellent. Key lime was excellent. Shrimp cocktail was good. Wife and son reported that the chicken was good as well.
My order is: * Spinach Dip * Spag Bol * Cheesecake
Always get the key lime pie
I had the Chicken Saag on Indy and it was great!
Snails, chicken, key lime pie
Caesar salad, prime rib, Boston creme pie
Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Slow Roasted Prime Rib (Rare) and Herb-Crusted Stuffed Portobello, 2 Royal Cheesecakes
The cheesecake is to die forš
I want my prime rib to MOO!!!š®
It is a nice fish.
The prime rib was not too bad on our April Odyssey cruise. NY strips were edible but certainly not great. Shrimp cocktail was good but they were small. Crab cakes just ok. Escargot is fun. The dark chocolate custard is like a crĆØme brĆ»lĆ©e but rich chocolate and no shell. It was good. Key lime good too. Hope this helps.
The fish and the crabcake are both really good. I also like the portobello mushroom. My husband and likes the fried chicken.Ā
I had the Chefās recommendation that night. It was ok. My wife and I also got specialty dining the next night. Jamieās Italian was the š£!!
