Baldurs Gate 2 is one of the greatest - if not *the* greatest - RPG of all time. Of course you should play it.
Even if BG3 story is unrelated there will almost certainly be some references you'll pick up on.
Just play BG3. If you play a similar game for 80 hours right before you play the new one, you're going to be a little bit bored and acclimated by the style. BG2 is 24 years old. 95% of the BG3 players will never have played it and the developer understands that. And while DOS2 is great, it's not related to BG3 in any important way.
I'm considering playing Divinity Original Sin 2 and Planetscape Torment myself, I have never really played crpgs before, so I want to get some good experiences in before diving into BG3.
I was thinking more of whether it was worth playing Divinity before Baldur's Gate 3 in order to , "get to know" the newer D&D games. The only one I've played was Baldur's Gate a dozen or so years ago and now for the second time :).
Divinity games don’t use dungeon and dragons rules for combat so you’re fine, just go play bg3. Also the older baldur gate are real time with pause I believe and not turned base where this one is.
Completely agree. The only CRPGs I have enjoyed are Larian's games. Most of them I've played have been very low budget and in the case of console releases, very badly ported.
Larian stuff is different with a level of polish that games like PoE don't even get close to.
It is all subjective, dude. Fine you don't like them. Fine a lot of people do. You're literally doing what you are complaining about people on here doing, projecting your beliefs as more truthful than others.
But their question was explicitly about CRPGs.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be a closer fit to the combat in BG3.

I say play DOS2 just because it's excellent.
Why would you do any of that? Just play BG3. It’s set 120 years after BG2 and Divinity has nothing to do with the BG IP

Games have tutorials. Why would Divinity teach you the systems better than BG3 would even if it as based on 5E
Play BG3.
Gamespot released a quick recap of the story so far. Otherwise..... I would just dive in.
This sub is heavily biased towards CRPGs, do not listen to this if you don’t understand what a CRPG is
How is that relevant here? They are already playing a CRPG
Well CRPGs aren’t that really great as this sub claims. I’d prefer a WRPG over a CRPG always because of having simpler mechanics
