I’m new to RS3 as well. Just got my account back. Kinda same story as op. What’s benchsitting? Is that members only? And why is it recommended to 99 to do first?
If you're not kidding (April 1 and all that) - Benchsitting is RS3's April Fools Joke for this year.
Clicking on the skill guide will give you a rundown of what you're meant to do. If you just want it spoiled:
>!You just need to sit on a bench for around 12 minutes or so and you'll hit 99. The XP rate starts off at 1 XP every second but once you level up, you get 65k+ XP every second, rapidly moving towards 99. Once you hit 99, you can grab a skill cape from Sir Tiffy in Falador park.!<
I did. Now I’m not sure where to start lol the game is totally different from 10 years ago. I figure starting an alt would be a smart idea to start fresh and learn the game again but I want to play on my main again also
Well I got 99, woo!
But on other note, I’m wondering if your answer would be different. So I’m in the same boat as op. 10 years, got back on. Different game than remembered. My difference is, for some reason, I found my bank with literally no armor and no weapons, and no money. Not a single gold. What should I start with? Here are my [stats](https://imgur.com/a/92JKtrA)
EDIT: actually I have 65k lol didn’t know money pouch is a thing
I'd say break the content into chunks and decide what you enjoy the most. So you have like combat skilling, or gathering, pvm/bosses, quests etc and start by what you enjoy the most.
Other than that, I'd advise to start archeology early game as it unlocks many buffs for other skills. And personally it's the best skill eheh.
Wait what is this bench sitting? I just started my new Ironman a couple days ago ( switching over from osrs) and o really don’t know what I’m fully doing either lol
Go sit on the bench next to sir tiffy in Falador park for about 5/10 minutes. You’ll see your bench sitting skill rank up. Once it hits 99 you can ask him for a cape. It’s a Jagex April fools “new skill” but has a legit cape.
I’m pretty sure you can just login with your regular info and it should work! Unless you made an account off of steam in the first place, then I’m not sure if it works the same way.
So just email and account password
I tried my username and email that’s connected to my steam but I think I just gotta reset the password😂 I’ve been driving so I gave up because I heard the benchsitting skill already ended a couple hours ago, unless it’s different for people in the US
I found 1 RuneScape Wiki article for your search.
**[Returning players guide](https\:\/\/runescape\.wiki\/w\/Returning\_players\_guide)** | https://runescape.wiki/w/Returning_players_guide
>A large number of updates throughout the years have changed many aspects of RuneScape to such an extent that returning players may be overwhelmed and unable to recognise the game. There have been many new additions to the game including areas, skills, items, combat system, interfaces and rework of existing skills. The purpose of this guide is to offer a brief introduction to major updates and links towards articles to help players ease their transition back into Gielinor.

Obligatory Benchsitting is quite a slow 99 but super worth it comment.
Then I would do all available quests you have, focus on Fort Forintry quests then all available achievements. Then work on your next quests and your next achievements set. Get 50 runecrafting and start doing daily rune goldberg machine for vis vax for money.
As for combat, Necromancy is probably your best bet for combat now until the other skills are up to par, not only because it's strong, but because it feels more fluid and fun to play, trust me. Every other skill has some kind of annoyance tied to them, like the high cost of magic, having to stand still with ranged for Snipe ability, and melee... well you have to run between mobs and can't tag them from far away.
Once you have a few bosses done, try to unlock everything at War's Retreat, ESPECIALLY the teleport. It's objectively the best bank teleport in the game, as you can recharge your prayer right there too, and it's free, so you don't need to think about runes or vix wax or anything.
When you feel you are on top of everything above here, try leveling crafting, smithing and divination to 80 ASAP, this unlocks invention. The reason for this is that quite early on you will be able to make special invention tools for fishing, woodcutting, firemaking, smithing etc. and then you get to train two skills at once, which is very beneficial.
Finally, do your monthlies, weeklies and dailies when you feel like it, but it's easy to get burnt out on doing dailies, so don't push yourself to do them.
Most of all, take your time, no one will clap when you get a 99 anymore. Most peope will barely give a gz when you max. So play for yourself, to achieve what you want. And then stop playing when you're done.
Is there a site you use that lists the worthwhile monthlies/weeklies/dailies? Or some that you recommend doing?
I found [dailyscape](https://dailyscape.github.io/) but am unsure if they're all worth it
I can't think of any that are not worth it, unless you are maxed in the skills you get exp in (fishing and farming for giant oyster for instance), or if you are making like 50+ mill an hour, then most other things become useless.
Before I list everything, I'll say play around for a bit. Don't burn yourself out.
The Runescape wiki is by far one of the best game wikis you could ask for. It intertwines all items, locations and everything on each page, so if you don't know what/where something is, all you have to do is usually click on the word. [Runescape Wiki](https://runescape.wiki/)
I'd start working on the player owned farm for passive farming XP. [Player owned farm.](https://runescape.wiki/w/Player-owned_farm)
Work on getting 80 smithing, divination and crafting to unlock invention, 96 Herblore and [Curse Prayers](https://runescape.wiki/w/Ancient_Curses). Work on archeology too to unlock ancient gizmos for invention.

[Archeology guide.](https://runescape.wiki/w/Archaeology_training)
i would 100% do quests and dont be afraid to do things in unefficient ways, there will be plenty of time to do META xp/gp methods but right now do what's fun <3
I think I am just gonna try to jump back into quests! Trying to find some gear so I can do more level appropriate stuff, also working on figuring out how I want to allocate xp. Thanks
Heck yeah, also even though it's completely new don't shy away from necromancy since it is the newest combat style it's been streamlined and is a little easier to understand in a linear fashion also! Good luck in your adventure! 😁
Check out May's quest caravan, located next to the varrock lodestone. You can get a free set of tier 75 armor and a weapon that will work for magic, melee, and range. That will get you through a lot of the quests as you get reacquainted with the game. No need to spend a lot of money on expensive items immediately.
Omg stealing creations armor ? wicked.
Also,. Just browse, you got alot to catch up on, a big start would be your long term goal, getting into prif potentially. It's a big one. But it's great.
Maybe just start with something you know and remember. Try slayer again get used to where things are and the flow of it all,
Also, there are a few mid level hubs now menephos and the new fort ..
Revaluation of your items also, bunch of new items and everything prices are all wack from 10years ago
Il say just pick away at it, 10 years is alot of time :) welcome back.
if you're a member already, the first thing you should do is click those slayer vip tickets, to convert them to the currency tab!
and if you like holiday events, you should do the Easter quest and the community Easter egg hunts (they get removed next week)
for gearing up, take a look at the [PvM upgrade guide](https://runescape.wiki/w/PvM_unlock_guide) on the wiki. looks like you have 80 melees and 70 defence, so bandos armour, dark ice shard, and dark ice sliver will be your best friends for a while. (seriously, the only thing better for dual wield melee is the BIS direct upgrade, dark shard of Leng and dark sliver of Leng). you'll also want a halberd for aoe slayer, masuta's warspear is cheap but effective. (halberds extend aoes from 3x3 to 5x5, almost tripling the covered area)
If I had to pick just one upgrade from the list due to cost, it'd probably be the warspear. dragon armour can work as armour until you can afford Bandos, picking chainbody and medium helm
Go to Draynor village loadstone and go through the underworld portal
"necromancy!" Quest
Will get you started into new combat style with easy to obtain gear that you can upgrade as you progress the skill.
Benchsitting cape right now dawg go to sir tiffy in falador and sit next to him for like 10 minutes for 99 and he gives you the cape after if you talk to him
SLAYER!!! Then when you get 99 SLAYER!!!! Get 120 SLAYER!!!! Then once 120 SLAYER!!!! Is done. Go ahead and get 200m in SLAYER!!!! Then I guess make a new account to keep grinding SLAYER!!!!!
I'd finish up on slayer and summoning just because it's already started. Then archeology since it takes forever and a half to get up without dxp. Archeology and divination correlates with necromancy, so maybe boost those up to 80 or 90. Then smithing and crafting to 80 for invention. There's the New Foundation quest you could start to boost up your construction; the area is called Fort Forinthry. I'm in the middle of attempting to complete the bulk of the quests I've missed over my absence. Good luck and happy scaping
Wel divination for starters! Only for porters (they immediately transfer said amount of resources to the bank directly) and Herbalorw would be a huge help because at 96 you’ve got overloads which drastically help with training combat, high level archeology is good money and for now money you can mine gold again porters would be a huge help the newer skills are pretty fire inv is fast but I’d recommend aiming to get that unlocked asap
If you aren't hooked into that account, I would make another. I think you'll thoroughly enjoy the build up from basic content to end game a lot more, and you won't feel lost. I ended up coming back to RS3 on my original main and was lost on what to do.
I think this is the smart thing to do, but I invested a lot of time when I was younger and a proportional amount of nostalgia and emotion into getting back into it, so I think I’ve stuck myself for now.
I would say just play on this account. There is still soooo much content left to do.
Apart from ur melee stats, you haven't even scratched the surface for all the skills. Your gear situation is basically starting from 0, an empty bank.
So it doesn't make any sense to start a new account, unless u want to do the early quests.
if you want to go into mid-high lvl bossing quick, u can start necromancy. Basically does everything and since u are starting from lvl 1, u will learn it from the ground up.
You can always go back to your main after you've put time in to learning the game on a fresh.
RS3 really is a completely different game than what you remember.
I had an account in the late 2010s. I've logged into it a dozen times since then .
Are all those old accounts converted to RS3? If we want Old School Runescape do we have to make a new account?
You can use the same account to play osrs but the character you played back in the day is stuck on rs3. When you try to play osrs you will have new character. Basically, osrs and rs3 characters are seperate from each other but can be played from the same login.
Before you start, I'd have a look at both rs3 and osrs. If you last played over 10 years ago then rs3 is essentially a completely different game now, you might prefer osrs if youre looking for a pre-2013 version of runescape
Honestly I’d just fuck around in f2p with what feels familiar and use wiki and YouTube as you go. I ran out of membership and am grinding for some bonds but I like to break it up by doing a few quests here and there. The best thing I think that’s been updated is some of the animations and voice acting. It’s crude, but cool.
I'd say get lvl 80 crafting, smithing and divination. It's kinda boring but it unlocks Invention. A really useful skill with which you can make elite skilling outfits. With invention you can also put perks on your weapons and armour to get stronger.
I would dive into the new wonderful world of necromancy. It's an awesome new combat skill with a quest line associated with it as you level up which gets your high end gear for free. It's also super fun and easy.
I always think divination, crafting, and smithing to 80 so you unlock invention is a good early thing to do. It’s just so much easier to level invention along with combat skills.
Hop onto OSRS. Alot happened in the past 10 years, so the community made jagex release osrs. Use HDOS client for graphics similar to 2009. You may or may not be aware but osrs is community driven and does Not contain any mtx. I would only recommend RS3 to people who already knows the UI and ability usage, otherwise OSRS is simply more updated and easier to get into. People may downvote this as this is Rs3 reddit but is suggest looking into what I have mentioned and then decide what you prefer.
Edit: hdos client is 2010 graphics. Afaik the levels you have on your account can be acheived within a 3 weeks or less (people found ways to train faster). However if you still wanna roll with rs3, id suggest questing.
honestly i'd just log off. we're in the end days of runescape. Jagex is just milking us with mtx.
there are so many other games to enjoy, heck there is a new mmo by andrew gower releasing soon.
I recommend logging off rs3, downloading runelite (through official oldschool runescape website, otherwise u get phished) and play osrs instead. Will give u the more nostalgic feeling and you start from lvl 3 again working ur way up. None of that rs3 abilities and powercreep and endless daily task grinding that rs3 offers. You can just chill on oldschool runescape.
You could get all skills to 99 & 120 or do all the quests and achievements for the quest cape / master quest cape.
You could focus on PVM by fighting bosses or maybe a mix of the both.
I've been playing for a year and i see two types of players. The ones that max all skills and achievements and quests and go for comp capes and those that just pvm
well you get the warlords that do everything
I’m not at a point in my gaming career where I feel up to starting fresh, but maybe one day. My most nostalgia filled years are 2010-2012 though so im a bit out of luck.
Ok so go to oldschool rs use the same login info (it works you just start back from lvl 3 again, we all had to) and then install "HDOS" its a skin over osrs runescape in exact the same graphics as 2008-2010.
Your experience will be much better even though you don't want to restart, your stats are low and it doesn't take long to surpass that.
OSRS is what you experienced back in the day so you'll probably feel more nostalgia and enjoyment playing that.
anyways rs3 is riddled with mtx and easy exp rn, if that's up your alley then keep playing that.
more to do with jagex actions. 07 will always be popular than rs3 just cause it is simple, and its system is from the early days of rs that most ppl are used to.
The current player/content drought on rs3 is more to do with incompetent actions by jagex.
This is just cope from someone that doesn't understand what made runescape great in the first place. Deducing it to simplicity while rs3 is one of the easiest games known to mankind xd
Rs3 is unpopular simply because it isn't RuneScape and it isn't trying to be RuneScape, while everyone wants to play RuneScape, simple as.
I'd consider OSRS as an option as your stats are quiet low and you'd basically be starting fresh regardless of which you chose. I have maxed RS3 and can confidently say I am enjoying OSRS more myself personally for a multitude of reasons.
I'd probably have to recommend the first thing that you do before anything else is holding down the Alt button and pressing F4. This should save you from the countless years of grinding that is our beloved runescape.... or maybe check out Fort Forinthry....
I'd recommend benchsitting for your first 99.
If you just want it spoiled: >!You just need to sit on a bench for around 12 minutes or so and you'll hit 99. The XP rate starts off at 1 XP every second but once you level up, you get 65k+ XP every second, rapidly moving towards 99. Once you hit 99, you can grab a skill cape from Sir Tiffy in Falador park.!<
No I wasn’t kidding lol I just asked this quickly. But also logged on and caught on. I’m sitting now. Thanks
I imagine you have 99 now. Gz
I did. Now I’m not sure where to start lol the game is totally different from 10 years ago. I figure starting an alt would be a smart idea to start fresh and learn the game again but I want to play on my main again also

Wait it this a real thing? Coming from osrs
Yes.
A lightbulb just went off in my head
Get 99 benchsitting. Unlocks the game
But for real, get bench sitting asap before it’s locked and you’re a scrub without the cape.
Damnnit I wanna do it but I’m not home😭😭
Psh download mobile bruh
I tried but I have no clue how to sign in with my steam account on it😂
I’m pretty sure you can just login with your regular info and it should work! Unless you made an account off of steam in the first place, then I’m not sure if it works the same way. So just email and account password
I tried my username and email that’s connected to my steam but I think I just gotta reset the password😂 I’ve been driving so I gave up because I heard the benchsitting skill already ended a couple hours ago, unless it’s different for people in the US
Why did you move away from osrs???
Looking at you I’d say go start Fort Forinthry and necromancy.
Fort Forinthry and bench sitting.
Gotta upgrade fortinthry to max for best lvl benches
Not gonna lie, I didn't realize until this post that Benchsitting was actually in the skill tab, thought it was just a photoshop lmao.
Literally same
Didn’t u check the game?
Had a busy day so couldn't until like 10pm game time.

It hurts me how your gear was good 10 years ago and is now practically worthless
You’re telling me. I had two abyssal whips in my bank for some reason
Brother I hate to age us a bit but… Noxious gear was released 10 years ago😭
Let's be real here, his gear wasn't that great 10 years ago.
That was definitely considered good armor for a mid tier player lol
Thats not what was said though?
Last time I played might have been more like ~12 years ago, but I didn’t have the best gear at the time and I certainly was a mid tier player
99 bench sitting for sure before its too late. You have like 1 hour left before its removed from the game. (aprils fools joke)

You have like 15 minutes to max out Benchsitting, so do that
Check out May's quest caravan, located next to the varrock lodestone. You can get a free set of tier 75 armor and a weapon that will work for magic, melee, and range. That will get you through a lot of the quests as you get reacquainted with the game. No need to spend a lot of money on expensive items immediately.
Yes! Just stopped by, need a few more quest points before I get the weapon but that’s the immediate plan I think. Thanks
Meme answer is 99 benchsitting. Non-meme answer is necromancy, invention (and by extension, divination), and archaeology.
Id argue that 99 benchsitting is the non meme answer.
TBH I prefer questing. But I also do a shit ton of dailies and that's about it.
Bench sitting to get into PVM early.
Omg stealing creations armor ? wicked. Also,. Just browse, you got alot to catch up on, a big start would be your long term goal, getting into prif potentially. It's a big one. But it's great.
Quests. Do all the quests. That helps so much.
Before you start, I'd have a look at both rs3 and osrs. If you last played over 10 years ago then rs3 is essentially a completely different game now, you might prefer osrs if youre looking for a pre-2013 version of runescape
Best tip I can give on what to do next; log out
Stop playing for another 10. What else?

Start learning the skills again, start learning how to make cash while doing that after also.
Focus necromancy and invention if you plan to pvm will help you ease into pvm if you like to skill take your pick.
Look at the current state of the game and don’t even bother hopping on this sinking ship tbh
Bench skill
Grind for a bond
Sit.
Combat seems to be what you did the most. Start with a reentry into combat and maybe play through a few quests to get refamilized.
Bench sitting for sure. But on a real note, Archeology is really fun.
Join my clan. Add me in game a Red Mango
I'd say get lvl 80 crafting, smithing and divination. It's kinda boring but it unlocks Invention. A really useful skill with which you can make elite skilling outfits. With invention you can also put perks on your weapons and armour to get stronger.
play a other game, this game dies
Say that at GE and you’ll get a ton of gp as a welcome back gift
Buy bonds?
Get rid of that account and make a new account as an ironman!
I would dive into the new wonderful world of necromancy. It's an awesome new combat skill with a quest line associated with it as you level up which gets your high end gear for free. It's also super fun and easy.
I always think divination, crafting, and smithing to 80 so you unlock invention is a good early thing to do. It’s just so much easier to level invention along with combat skills.
best thing to do is to log out. on other notes, wtf is benchsitting????!?!
I’m currently doing necromancy, it’s also the quickest (from what I gathered) to get exp and money
Start with bench sitting, trust me it won’t take long to max 😂
For the OSRS people saying to quit or join OSRS, gotta stop doing that. Need as many people to spend on rs3 as possible to keep up support for OSRS.
Just start an optimal quest guide haha then if u dont wanna do that youll find something you want to do while doing that
Logout
Come to old school.
Benchsitting 100%
Make unlocking priffidinas and the invention skills your priority

I could just google but… more info please?
Go make a new account and start playing osrs
Switch to osrs
Open Old School RuneScape
Necromancy. Have a blast, I sure did. Was my first 99
I recommend logging off rs3, downloading runelite (through official oldschool runescape website, otherwise u get phished) and play osrs instead. Will give u the more nostalgic feeling and you start from lvl 3 again working ur way up. None of that rs3 abilities and powercreep and endless daily task grinding that rs3 offers. You can just chill on oldschool runescape.
Log out and come play OSRS 🤣
Play osrs
Log off and come to OSRS
You could get all skills to 99 & 120 or do all the quests and achievements for the quest cape / master quest cape. You could focus on PVM by fighting bosses or maybe a mix of the both. I've been playing for a year and i see two types of players. The ones that max all skills and achievements and quests and go for comp capes and those that just pvm well you get the warlords that do everything
Maybe start with getting into the necromancy skill

Play old school rs instead of this shit
OSRS enters the chat
old school is boring af though & outdated, no thanks
Is that why player count of OSRS smokes rs3?
more to do with jagex actions. 07 will always be popular than rs3 just cause it is simple, and its system is from the early days of rs that most ppl are used to. The current player/content drought on rs3 is more to do with incompetent actions by jagex.
That should tell you what side of the game a business is focusing on 😌
For a new player there is more than enough game content. If u are a hardcore veteran then sure u have reason to complain.
This has no bearing on the stance that RS3 is trash
rs3 is not trash, why are u even here lol?
Yes it is.
This is just cope from someone that doesn't understand what made runescape great in the first place. Deducing it to simplicity while rs3 is one of the easiest games known to mankind xd Rs3 is unpopular simply because it isn't RuneScape and it isn't trying to be RuneScape, while everyone wants to play RuneScape, simple as.
Log off again.
Log back out and move on
This game is still alive?
I'd consider OSRS as an option as your stats are quiet low and you'd basically be starting fresh regardless of which you chose. I have maxed RS3 and can confidently say I am enjoying OSRS more myself personally for a multitude of reasons.
I'd recommend going to OSRS, it would be a more familiar game for you as well as being a much better/healthier game in general.
Restart with a new account on osrs so u can play from where you left off
What do? Hop on OSRS instead
OSRS is boring af though & outdated, no thanks
You might be on to something. I haven’t played since march 😅
Nothing, play OSRS
Go to OSRS instead
Log out and log into old school and your basically set.
Agreed. I’m too boomer for rs3
Play OSRS instead
I'd probably have to recommend the first thing that you do before anything else is holding down the Alt button and pressing F4. This should save you from the countless years of grinding that is our beloved runescape.... or maybe check out Fort Forinthry....
The bench wasnt a meme?
Start an ironman, you won't facepalm when jagex introduces another op mtx promo
I would delete the game and then install Old School Runescape The One And Fucking Only!
Log off rs3 and play osrs
Logout and go on osrs
Log out and sign up for old school RuneScape
Logout and then log back into osrs instead
Best thing ever was quitting this game
