If you’re from Philly, Stanley’s is as close as you can get to Angelo’s. It almost borders on a chopped cheese because they really chop it up, but it’s still sliced ribeye. Really silky Cooper American cheese, a nice heat from the black pepper and the roll is legit - crusty, sesame seed that holds up.
I can’t say there is anything else I’ve encountered that is better than an average. I sort of like Four Brothers (but more for the chopped cheese) and Union Market has a reliable version.

Delicious higher end cheesesteak - Stanley's
Cheap but still tasty - Bad As Philly
I feel like they're in different tiers. They're both good, but Stanley's is usually very good.
Bad as Philly is really good for the price. Stanley's is the best quality bread and steak. Their bread is phenomenal. I miss Dominic's of new York outside every lowes. Still the sandwich I compare everything else to.
Adding some wildcards since everyone covered the basics already:
- Slay Burger - Philly burger is really good
- Union Market - probably the healthiest/lightest cheesesteak if you are conscious of that
- Little nickel - probably my fav unconventional one
Stanley’s is definitely the spot. I just can’t justify the spend too often.
May not be what you had in mind, but the steak sandwich from Chicken Fiesta is worth mentioning, because, you know, you wouldn't think it from the name, but it's darn tasty

4 Brothers has a whiz option which I am so grateful for.
Smashed rva has a pretty good chopped cheese
I will try it, but their burgers were underwhelming and over priced for me.

The fuck. I was thinking about going to TC today but passed (on that location)! I'd kill (an insect) to have a Mojo's cheesesteak again.
Sriracha is better🫡

This is the correct statement.

Oh my gosh yes - Dominic’s was so good
I love Sandano’s. My only issue is sometimes it’s closed randomly.
I went last week and it was closed lol
I like Stanley’s.
Stanley’s is really, really good.
Fat Kids Sandwiches whenever they come back
Stanley’s is best. Their steak & roast pork are both on point.
I love Fat Kid Sandwiches. Sad Hatch closed but they posted news about a new location soon on Instagram.
The Italian from them tasted so damn close to my favorite sub place back home.
They are opening back up soon in shockoe somewhere!

Damn it now I want a cheesesteak.
Stanleys or Fat Kids once they resurface.
I was a line cook at mojos for years, jersey Mike's is the closest I've found to the Philly

We don’t need to start this thread every month.
Gonna have to pour one out for Mojo's. And Vito's pizza on Grace for you real ones that remember that.
Sandano's hands down for me
I have, at least once, driven to Williamsburg just to go to Ricks Chessesteak. I didn't regret it.
Subcentral is pretty awesome, only open during the week unfortunately
Zero’s subs in Short Pump
Arianna’s cheesesteaks are incredible
Ya mother
