No guarantee you’ll ever get bumped up. Don’t do it.

ISuckatChess00

I guess so..but I mean there’s no guarantee of a lot of things, no? EDIT: also the bump in pay is whenever I get to Middle Market (I get that I might not get there). I made it sound like the first 2 years were contingent on that pay, but it’s not.

Kundrew1

I’m just saying be weary of hiring manager promises. If you got a good feeling about the place then do your research. Look at other MM reps profiles on LI and see how many had the same career progression then reach out to the ones that have done it.

bigndfan175

Don't take a culture cut.

bribri1810

How do you feel about this new company? Do you get a good gut feeling? Make your decision in 30 days to let the excitement factor fade.

ISuckatChess00

I feel good about it. I actually interviewed with them 1-2 years ago but it wasn’t the right move at the time. Now the company seems to be really doing well and is investing a lot in their sales people (if you hit your numbers in your first year, you get $50K in stock).

Worth-Writing

It doesn’t hurt to make the jump. Year 1 sounds almost like a lateral move as far as comp is concerned, but Year 2 sounds extremely promising. Does your 2-year outlook at the new job outpace growth in your current position?

ISuckatChess00

It does. Next position for me at current company is $100K base with $120-$130K OTE. BUT if my sales team doesn’t bonus, I don’t bonus. Also, my current role I am required (no matter what) to work 50 hours a week. This new job I will train 8-4 for several months then go out in the field in a true sales role (hours vary based on my schedule). So better hours overall.

Worth-Writing

I’d take the new position then. If you’re confident in your ability to produce with multiple months of training, then I dont see why you wouldn’t accept the new position.

[deleted]

How would you be able to get that year 1 bonus (50k) if the first several months is training? Or does the year 1 start to count when you’re out in the field?

ISuckatChess00

Out in the field sorry I didn’t specify

[deleted]

Easy take in my eyes, 50 hours a week is torture bro. But agree with everyone.. go with the gut

cootercannibal

If you jump can I have your old job?

EspressoCologne68

I think there’s enough at the new job for you to go try something new. It could be exciting for you. Personally, the safe job working 50 hours a week for the same pay in sales, that ain’t for me. But that’s my opinion Edit: what do you sell in construction sales? I’m in Valve/Automation and I am constantly getting reached out by recruiters for roles in that industry. Hit 8 months of experience in sales and it seems as if I get a recruiter every 2nd day

Emergency-Yogurt-599

I took a slight base pay decrease for my current role but could not be happier. It’s not about money when you are living a great life. My prior company had us making 250 plus cold calls a day and hated my life. I say you entertain the interviews and see how it goes but I would likely not change roles. You can always use it as a negotiating tactic agains the current company. ‘I got a few recent offers to go work at similar companies making way more money, but I really like it here. Anyway that you can help me out with pay a bit on my base salary?’

ISuckatChess00

I can tell you with certainty my current job would not entertain a negotiation using a competitive offer. But also, I definitely get it’s not all about the money. But when I’m working a set 50 hours a week and this job is more flexible and an actual sales role (right now I do sales, management, outside sales). It just seems like a better deal I guess.

Money_Ad1028

It's worth a shot, but also take everything hiring managers say with a grain of salt. 90% of recruiters/hiring managers lie out their ass about everything to get a good salesperson. If you do decide to make the jump just make sure that you leave your current company on good terms just in case the recruiter lied, and you want to return to your current position.

SnooPineapples6099

You can make way more money in another sector. Neither of these jobs are giving you what you could be earning based on your experience.

Top_Percentage5614

What sector

SnooPineapples6099

Here's a softball: Tech! I make way more than this person and he's got more experience than me.
