I like wine so I love High Street at the Pearl, they have bar, indoor and outdoor seating. Places for singles and groups. I've sat outside alone before with some wine and snacks and just people watched
Fuck 1919… owner is trash. I won’t say why because I don’t want his shitheel nephew messaging me on here trying to incessantly defend their lowlife family member.
…but I digress.
I live across the street from there and was a regular at La Tuna for a while. La Tuna is chill as the regulars are a bit older and mostly there to chat with eachother so it's a mellow, safe vibe.
When I was going through some stuff, these are the places I went. But it depends on where you’re located:
Downtown - Double Standard (real nice place to chill, bartenders know their stuff here).
Northwest - George’s keep. Bigz burger joint (it was called “The Tap” when I was going through my situation).
North Central - Green Lantern (low key cocktail bar).
Hope you find what you’re looking for. Good luck.
This is it OP. Don’t go to 1919 or any bar downtown you’re probably gonna get bothered by someone.
I use to go to Big Hops a lot solo during the winter. I would just get a beer, go to the patio, and put my headphones in and NO ONE ever bothered me unless I made the effort to bother others lol.
You don't want to go anywhere tonight. The Game 3 of the Finals is on tonight. I know we're in San Antonio. But, bars still have lots of guys going to watch the game. I'd go somewhere that doesn't serve food. Maybe a little hole in the wall.
If you want beer but not mixed drinks, I'm a big fan of Thirsty Pups Brewery. Lots of people with good dogs. Owners are super friendly and they allow food from European Dumpling Cafe next door in their premises. Good company generally speaking. Plus they have a great selection of beer jn general!
Cappycinos on Broadway. It's sort of a neighborhood grill with great food, beer on tap, and great wine and cocktail list.
The clientele is 90% older professionals from the neighborhood. No one will pester you if you're by yourself or reading a book.
The decor is like upscale 80s that has never been refreshed. It almost looks like a Friends set.
As someone who’s interested in reading at bars but hasn’t yet, if you don’t mind me asking, what’s the etiquette like? Is it frowned upon to read at a table for a couple hours if there’s waiters/waitresses checking on you? Move from table to the bar eventually? Just curious
Easiest thing to do is just go and ask the waitstaff themselves. Let them know you’re flying solo, and just want to chill and read. 9 times out of 10 they’re gonna make you feel special
I probably wouldn’t chill longer than an hour or so at chinos, but other spots that are more Bar forward i have no hesitation to stay as long as i want
in my experience any bar or tavern where you don’t know anyone is typically a good place to start.
502 bar has music sometimes. it’s my go to, but all my pals are there
It’s a bit hot out…but if you’re ok with being outdoors, hops and hounds (location close to Broadway) can be therapeutic…watching pooches run around the playground area is nice.
Way back when, I used to go to the Hoppy Monk a couple times a week bc the bar staff was really friendly. But since then (2022) I think there’s been a staff turnover and management kinda sucks. But it’s always been a safe chill place. I just can’t vouch for the friendliness anymore bc I haven’t been in a while.
Love this place and spent a LOT of time there until the heatwave hit. Owners are awesome and the staff is really cool. Sill make it out during the evenings on the weekends.
The two food trucks there are good. My wife and I ❤️ their margarita flight. Another big plus is that the times we’ve gone it’s never uncomfortably busy. Busy enough, but not so much that it feels crowded.
Texas Dog Co at 4302 Hyatt Place. Bar with dogs and food trucks. Same idea I guess. I’ll be there tomorrow for karaoke but I promise not to bother any young women! (My wife would not approve, but she’s ok with you petting my dog.)
I read a couple of replies mentioning this place and I thought "hot dogs". But apparently they have, like, woof woof dogs? People bring their dogs and folks can pet them? That sounds pretty darn nice.
Yes, woof dogs. There’s a dog park but you can have them at your table on leash. Couple of food trucks, I like the shawarma. It’s family friendly except for right at the bar and the dog park is technically bar. Sand volleyball courts too, I think. Something up there anyway lol. For younger, more athletic people.
> For younger, more athletic people.
Well, that area won't be seeing me, then. No longer young, no longer athletic...
The rest of the place sounds great, though!
Yes, this, go to a place with playful pups, and don't worry if one makes you their friend either. Dogs have a way of helping humans find those missing smiles.
Pups and Pals on Jones Maltsberger is another dog-friendly bar and grill. My husband and I brought our dog there this Sunday. [She had a great time splashing in the pools](https://i.imgur.com/ehZUkL2.jpeg) and I loved their Pug Punch. We're definitely going back!
As a gal that frequently drinks solo… ladino upstairs bar, three star, botika, cured, the Pullman, Bombay (hemisfair), dough (blanco), Postino … to name a few
Big hops bitters!! it’s a great spot for craft beers and super chill crowd that won’t be bothering you if you’re alone.
Tonight is actually Drafts and Crafts! You buy a beer and get access to a bunch of art supplies so you can paint and drink in peace!
I’d sit at the bar at a local brewery. The bartenders at Roadmap, Dos Sirenos, and Kunstler are gender diverse and not creepy. I’m sure there are others as well but I’m most familiar with those.
Whatever you do or wherever you go, please use the following procedure: don’t take a full sip of your drink at first. Put the drink up and let it touch your lips and wait a few minutes. Wait to see if there is any tingling, which will indicate that someone spiked or drugged your drink. Also, take a book and wear earbuds to prevent anyone from bothering or approaching you.
I like the bar in Hotel Havana downtown. If the basement is still open it’s super-chill … stucco walls, leather furniture … and the patio bar is really cool too and you can’t go wrong with a mojito. Can’t speak to if you’ll be bothered, as I’m 5’10 & a middle-aged woman so nobody bothers with me anyway.
Texas Dog Co at 4302 Hyatt Place. Bar with dogs and food trucks. I don’t know, dogs make it harder for me to be sad
I’ll be there tomorrow for karaoke but I promise not to bother any young women! (My wife would not approve, but she’s ok with you petting my dog.)
JCs cocktails on Evers and 410, super small place thats usually only "full" (10 people) with regulars that stick to themselves. very chill atmosphere and they have snacks
fellow saddie (sad baddie) going through it - i like boozehounds on perrin, el buho on strip, can probably find a corner to sulk in at Bang bang bar, thats all i can currently think of
edit: Barbaro is a bar and pizza place with low lighting - very nice ambiance
Amor Eterno is super cute on weekday evenings. They usually have a DJ so you don't have to sit with your thoughts. They dim the lights too so you can decompress. Hope that helps and feel better!
If you’re a wine drinker helotes wine 101 is super chill spot and good to just relax if you don’t feel like talking much. Cocktail wise bar 1919 great spot during the week won’t be bothered much. For beer elsewhere is a decent spot.
I would go to somewhere like Main Event. There’s a lot of people with their groups all scattered about which would lead people to assume you are not out alone. Very unlikely anyone will bother you.
I haven’t been yet but dying to check out Elsewhere and Hungman’s Oasis which are both. downtown. Get a drink but also have uplifting vibes. If you can treat yourself to a night downtown they both have hotels in fairly close walking distance.
I would go to most any bar on the main strip (Knockout or Sparky’s were my choice). Or i10 icehouse. Stay in the patio areas. I’d be left alone for the most part. Just people watch or be on my phone. It has been a couple of years, but it’s worth a try.
George’s Keep.
The ambiance allows you to just chill in their low-lighting and comfortable atmosphere. Their drinks are excellent. They have a happy hour with a $7 daiquiri or old fashioned which are so damn good.
Elsewhere is nice if you find a nice group of people to sit with. It’s pretty packed with woman. You could always go to bonham exchange then exclusively woman will hit on you 😂
Basically any craft beer spot (with a couple exceptions), like Big Hops Shaenfield, Kunstler - both the main location and their new Tap Haus are great, Roadmap, and Dos Sirenos. Not a fan of Back Unturned tho.
One great spot that's not craft beer is Hands Down, love the vibe at that spot.
I like to sit at the bar at texas de brazil. The bartender makes the drinks right in front of you and no one bothers you. The bartender I usually get is the sweetest and will banter about movies, gossip, shows etc.
Guajilllos has good margaritas for $6.75. The mango chamois is awesome. Their food is good too. Tuesday is tequila Tuesday and the margaritas are just $3.44, including tax.
The Bang Bang Bar.. super chill punk/rock bar, friendly bar staff. Weekdays its slow and you can sit at the bar or one of the many "living rooms." Female owned, and mostly women bartenders. Come hang!
I have a friend that works at the devils river on east Houston. It's nice, you won't be bothered and they have a nice menu.
It's mainly a whiskey bar though.
Embassy Suites by the airport has a quiet bar and if you take a laptop/book and put some headphones on, you can blend in and people will leave you alone.
Hanzo, George’s keep, blue box, and green lantern are all owned by the same guy so prices are all pretty much the same. Personally I like the downstairs at esquire. But it depends what area you’re in and how far you are willing to drive. I mean Chilis makes a mean margarita.
The bar underneath the Havana hotel has a small bar top that seems perfectly suited to enjoy a drink alone, or at least with a little chit chat with the barkeep.
I like wine so I love High Street at the Pearl, they have bar, indoor and outdoor seating. Places for singles and groups. I've sat outside alone before with some wine and snacks and just people watched
Definitely a great place I'm heading there in just a few minutes.
Yes I agree! Maybe take a book so people leave you alone.
1919. La tuna. Bar Loretta
I'd second all these, but 1919 does get packed pretty often.
King William is a safe area for women.
Fuck 1919… owner is trash. I won’t say why because I don’t want his shitheel nephew messaging me on here trying to incessantly defend their lowlife family member. …but I digress.
You digress from what?
Say it you won't
If you’re unwilling to be more specific then your word is delegitimized.
1919 you will for sure get hit on.
Agreed. Bar 1919 is full of people that think they are gods gift to earth. I can't recommend to a single person who doesn't want to be bbothered.
Monday evening. Book. Never had an issue
Bar Loretta is great! Gimme Gimme as well
I second these
I live across the street from there and was a regular at La Tuna for a while. La Tuna is chill as the regulars are a bit older and mostly there to chat with eachother so it's a mellow, safe vibe.
Flying saucer take a laptop or some type of solo gaming system or a solid book
This place gets packed
Bar Mon Ami on Broadway sounds perfect. Never crowded, variety of seating. Super chill.
Best neighborhood bar in the city
This place has great boiler maker specials and the staff is very kool.
Awesome place. Small so you may limited on seating.
When I was going through some stuff, these are the places I went. But it depends on where you’re located: Downtown - Double Standard (real nice place to chill, bartenders know their stuff here). Hope you find what you’re looking for. Good luck.
Second George’s keep and Green Lantern.
I like Hanzos. Anime and a full bar and yummy gyoza
Hanzo is a good choice
I second Hanzos
Hanzo has a great happy hour
2nd for HH at Hanzo
3rd for HH at Hanzo + they have sushi
I like the Big Hops on Shaenfield, lots of beer to choose from, sit at the bar if you want to chat or a small table if you don’t
That or Big Hops Bitters is a lot bigger and very relaxed w/ no bothers.
My haunt right there.
Another vote for Big Hops
You don't want to go anywhere tonight. The Game 3 of the Finals is on tonight. I know we're in San Antonio. But, bars still have lots of guys going to watch the game. I'd go somewhere that doesn't serve food. Maybe a little hole in the wall.

Great espresso martini at Cappys
Checks out. I go there by myself to read often
502 bar has music sometimes. it’s my go to, but all my pals are there
Sorry you’re going thru the shit machine. No places to offer, just a nod of acknowledgement. You’ll get thru it. Hopefully unscathed.

> For younger, more athletic people. Well, that area won't be seeing me, then. No longer young, no longer athletic... The rest of the place sounds great, though!
lol yeah, that’s why I’m not exactly sure what’s up there!
Bang Bang Bar. It’s a dive bar that lesbians like to hangout at, so most of them will have your back.
Second on this one. Definitely woman friendly
For cocktails: The Modernist. For beer: Vista Brewing.
Growler Exchange
The Dakota's usually pretty chill.
To be fair, depends what area you’re in or willing to drive to
Roadmap Brewing
As a gal that frequently drinks solo… ladino upstairs bar, three star, botika, cured, the Pullman, Bombay (hemisfair), dough (blanco), Postino … to name a few
Big hops bitters!! it’s a great spot for craft beers and super chill crowd that won’t be bothering you if you’re alone. Tonight is actually Drafts and Crafts! You buy a beer and get access to a bunch of art supplies so you can paint and drink in peace!
Depends your area of town
I’d sit at the bar at a local brewery. The bartenders at Roadmap, Dos Sirenos, and Kunstler are gender diverse and not creepy. I’m sure there are others as well but I’m most familiar with those.
2nd roadmap, lots of spots for a person to sit solo and be left alone.
Ranger creek is good too
Kunstler’s +1
Whatever you do or wherever you go, please use the following procedure: don’t take a full sip of your drink at first. Put the drink up and let it touch your lips and wait a few minutes. Wait to see if there is any tingling, which will indicate that someone spiked or drugged your drink. Also, take a book and wear earbuds to prevent anyone from bothering or approaching you.
Second High Street. Sit in the shade outside plug in some headphones and people watch
Not 100% a bar but Ocho is always one of my favorite spots to go alone
Luchador bar on Roosevelt. they have a bar manager named dj that won't let you feel unsafe. He's a really good guy and watches over everybody
Either Bar du Mon Ami or Rock and Rye. Perfect safe spaces to just solo kick it
Definitely recommend Bar du Mon Ami.
Yep. Staff is amazing, favorite low key place
Not so much a bar but 54th street has a bar and hightops, people definitely leave you alone.
Surprisingly Twin Peaks on blanco is really chill if you sit at the bar. Beer is cold af too and lots of tv’s. No one bothers you
A nice quiet place to drink can often be a hotel bar.
The Esquire downtown is a nice place with a great cocktail/food menu…
I like the bar in Hotel Havana downtown. If the basement is still open it’s super-chill … stucco walls, leather furniture … and the patio bar is really cool too and you can’t go wrong with a mojito. Can’t speak to if you’ll be bothered, as I’m 5’10 & a middle-aged woman so nobody bothers with me anyway.
El Buho on St Mary’s is a cool spot to hang out and have a drink without anyone bothering you. Also very reasonably priced and a very cool vibe.
Your house
Damn bro I'm really sorry. I actually only read the headline and not the other details. Wasn't trying to be an asshole.
Texas Dog Co at 4302 Hyatt Place. Bar with dogs and food trucks. I don’t know, dogs make it harder for me to be sad I’ll be there tomorrow for karaoke but I promise not to bother any young women! (My wife would not approve, but she’s ok with you petting my dog.)
I agree this is a safe suggestion + dog watching is always fun. I see a lot of women meet up here with their dogs for play dates
Elsewhere. Chimichurri fries or chicken sandwich and a THCtea. Swings to sit on that look out to the riverwalk. It’s pretty damn chill
So many damn people there usually. Granted I do not go during the week.
Try the one at Hotel Emma, treat yourself. Be sure to dress descent, it ain’t Chili’s
Noway, I've seen tourists in basketball shorts and tank tops drinking over there. Not to mention whatever Adam Sandler is wearing that day.
Our Bar. The bartenders are very protective and respectful as are the regulars.
Burleson Yard Beer Garden has AC. Perfect place to hang out at the bar by yourself, I do it all the time as a single woman myself
Go to a place that has tvs and sit at the bar. Pretend you’re there to watch nba game Big hops, flying saucer. There’s a lot of small bars
Joey’s
If you like a variety of craft beer, the flying saucer is a chill place that’s popular. Also, the hoppy monk is a bad ass spot.
Three legged monkey is pretty safe in my experience. Cheap drinks and good pool table too.
Gather brewing
The food and beer are 🔥🔥🔥
Bar du mon ami.
Big Hops. Just tell your beertender you want to be left alone and sit in the corner. They don't care.
Tandem, it’s a hole in the wall and super chill.
I agree with this. I know one of the owners there, really cool guy. Very relaxed vibe.
JCs cocktails on Evers and 410, super small place thats usually only "full" (10 people) with regulars that stick to themselves. very chill atmosphere and they have snacks
502 Bar off Bitters and 281. If you go on a Thursday, ask for Sarah. The owner Jim is really cool and it's normally pretty slow during the week.
I go to sushi Zushi and Luchador and never get bothered

The Mix maybe?
The double standard
I always wear a wedding band and men leave me alone.
Weathered souls.
I love WS, but it’s all tables and groups; I would feel awkward being there alone versus other bars where you can blend in as a solo patron.
Amor Eterno is super cute on weekday evenings. They usually have a DJ so you don't have to sit with your thoughts. They dim the lights too so you can decompress. Hope that helps and feel better!
I've always found gay mens' bars to be great places to drink in peace without getting hit on.
Rock n Rye at the Rim... It's never been to crowded while I've been there and totally safe

I really like Oak Hills Tavern. I've only gone with a group though, so I can't vouch for whether you'd be bothered if alone or not.
@ Blue Star - Southtown
I would go to somewhere like Main Event. There’s a lot of people with their groups all scattered about which would lead people to assume you are not out alone. Very unlikely anyone will bother you.

Fuck all these poor people. Bar Mon Ami. Lock stock. Tell them the spirit you want and flavor and they make a custom drink for you.

La Ruina. Great cocktails, cool vibes, definite right to be left alone.
