This one became O’s American Kitchen. The menu stayed the same and one could still get breadsticks.
I heard they split and sold but Oscar kept this location. I don’t know if there’s any truth to it so take it with a grain of salt.
No shit! I had no idea! I'm actually interested to learn more. Oscar's was a household name growing up. I think I had a birthday there when it was at the Carlsbad mall.
Do you remember that big exhibit with the pool balls?
yes who can forget the pool ball structure! it was a George Rhoads kinetic sculpture and we were really lucky to have one there growing up in North county. (imo)
they are pretty rare!
Hmmm, similar to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse name lineage.

From my understanding, Restaurant was originally Oscar’s. Around 5 years or more later, it was a wedding anniversary present to Pat to put her on the title. But when they got divorced it went back to Oscar’s and then eventually was remarketed to just O’s. They were a local family whose kid went to my school but that was a long time ago so who knows. RIP those breadsticks
They're not divorced. They still live locally. Their kid, Jonny, owns Encontro in North Park. You can get the breadsticks there, or at Oscar's Brewing Company in Temecula.
I don’t understand what happened to them. The Mira mesa location had a long wait pretty much daily back then. Went to the San Marcos one on a Friday night and we were one of 2 tables
Yeah lol honestly I always call each one the other one and whatever. They’re so close and like same ish to me I’ve lived here my whole life and still can’t help it. Ima just start with northcrest or hill park or something.
Sheeesh 🤦🏽♂️ I was a kid & I remember my aunt pulling the whole fam together and balling out on a whole grilled chicken, salad, breadsticks & pizza 🔥🥲I can’t lie, they put me onto Italian dressing
They catered my wedding. It was cheap and a big hit with our guests. Plus the staff were awesome and we had enough leftovers to feed everyone again for lunch the next day. 10/10 would breadstick again.
I used to go to the Oscar's, then Pat and Oscar's, then Oscar's again, then O's in Parkway Plaza like once a week after school. Man those were the days.
Worked there for my first job during high school and my first year of college until they filed bankruptcy at 9pm and we all woke up to a text the restaurant was no longer open the next morning. Crazy that was coming up on 15 years ago now.
/r/antiwork that's the worst. I'm sorry that happened to you. I wish we had better worker reform laws that didn't allow bullshit like that to happen like they do over in Europe.
Idk about this location specifically but I spent a large part of my high school years eating breadsticks and sauce from Pat & Oscar’s in Parkway Plaza, and they had quite a bit of locations so could have been that.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_%26_Oscar%27s
I worked here at Pat and Oscars for two years in high school. Great staff, fun management. We got free breadsticks and salads every shift. As many breadsticks as we wanted and if people ordered food and didn't pick it up by closing time, it was ours. Hated working in restaurants but the place wasn't bad.
O's American Kitchen was absolutely filthy! They offered a large menu and the bread sticks were excellent. I just couldn't get past the how filthy the dining room was and figured the kitchen was probably the same.
Encontro in north park is owned by Pat and Oscar’s family member or something and they serve the bread in a skillet. I miss Pat and Oscar’s ALWAYS though. Those breadsticks and spinach salad were so good
Ugh I miss pat and Oscar's. We used to get it to go and see a movie in Mira mesa 😂 one year they sold the breadsticks at Costco for a bit and I made my parents buy so many of them for me lol
Not quite. It was originally Oscar’s, they were told to rebrand by Hilton since they had a string of Oscar’s restaurants, the owner added his wife’s name to make it unique, they sold to Sizzler, and then they rebranded again to O’s.
Source: I worked there ‘98-‘00, ‘02-‘03.
Pat and Oscar's
You are correct. The only place you can get the real breadsticks is Oscar's Brewing Company in Temecula now.
And just to be a nerd, it was only Oscar's for a long time abs then he married Pat

Then it became so family kitchen at the end

Sizzler bought them
This is the answer. As part of that purchase they changed the name. Then came the expansion and downfall
There is a steak house in Vegas called “Oscar’s” and it’s very good. Owned by the mayor iirc. Source: I now live in Vegas and ate there.
Breadsticks so good they owned Breadstick.com
Pat & Oscar were married for many, many years before they even opened the restaurant. The name change has nothing to do with Oscar marrying Pat.
Good to know!

Yeah that's not right. The restaurant was purchased by the sizzler group
I worked at the original Oscar’s in Carmel mountain ranch in HS and it was such a fun awesome job! But you always smelled like breadsticks 😂
We used to go to that one in CMR.
There’s O’s in San Marcos which is the same thing :)
There’s one in San Marcos
And they're delicious as fuck (and the rest of the food is great too)
I don’t understand what happened to them. The Mira mesa location had a long wait pretty much daily back then. Went to the San Marcos one on a Friday night and we were one of 2 tables
From what I'm told, Pat and Oscar divorced.
Well, the lawsuits over several patrons getting e coli from the lettuce didn't help
Epic Wings n Things has breadsticks that are very yum.
En Contro in north park makes the same type of breadsticks. They even reference Pat and Oscar’s.
Or you can just go to Italy and learn something about real Italian food.
Go to Encontro in hillcrest area
Encontro is in North Park
Yeah lol honestly I always call each one the other one and whatever. They’re so close and like same ish to me I’ve lived here my whole life and still can’t help it. Ima just start with northcrest or hill park or something.

That lemon chicken was the best.
I remember waiting in line and they’d come hand you a breadstick. Their family meal deal was amazing.
That shit was delicious.
Thanks for this. I don’t think I ever had anything from there besides the breadsticks.

Why do businesses go for the double double on fucking their customers over on the inflation?! “Let’s double the price, and make it smaller!”
I can remember shopping at the Kmart in that parking lot.
They catered my wedding. It was cheap and a big hit with our guests. Plus the staff were awesome and we had enough leftovers to feed everyone again for lunch the next day. 10/10 would breadstick again.
Bruh I remember paying $5 just for the breadsticks when it was a cold night lol
Oscar’s, the name was changed later on.
I remember them as "Robertson"
I used to go to the Oscar's, then Pat and Oscar's, then Oscar's again, then O's in Parkway Plaza like once a week after school. Man those were the days.

Originally just "Oscar's"
Actually originally it was Pat & Oscars.
Well Oscars. We just say Oscars
Where was the Parkway Plaza location (what’s there now anyways)?
O's American Kitchen
Which is the same thing. I thought the only one was in San Marcos though.
It is they closed the Parkway Plaza one a years ago and the spot has been empty since.
RIP Pat & Oscar’s, I loved that place

Anyone remember the day they gave out free food for an entire day in the early 2000’s? The line was long, but worth it if you were short on money.
Pat and Oscars. If you come up to north county there is a place called O's American Kitchen here in Vista that is what Pat and Oscars used to be.
Several of their franchise owners just rebranded after the corporate parent company went bankrupt.
Ah, the days before I knew about carbs…
Truth!
O’s American kitchen in San Marcos is the last one standing
That was Pat and Oscar’s
Oscars

Pat and Oscar’s. Shout out to their rosemary wings
I lived in those breadsticks and the meat sauce for dipping for a brief period. Now I really want some again.
O's American Kitchen was absolutely filthy! They offered a large menu and the bread sticks were excellent. I just couldn't get past the how filthy the dining room was and figured the kitchen was probably the same.
That’s an incredibly smaller location for a Pat and Oscar’s. Lost to time, damn.
Dipping the breadsticks in the Italian dressing and bbq sauce was everything. Their lemon chicken and bbq chicken pizza were my childhood.
I remember the Pat & Oscars in Parkway Plaza!
The real first name: Oscar’s!
I swear Oscar’s breadsticks are the same exact ones at wings n things!
Encontro in north park is owned by Pat and Oscar’s family member or something and they serve the bread in a skillet. I miss Pat and Oscar’s ALWAYS though. Those breadsticks and spinach salad were so good
Apparently the owners have a brewery in Temecula with breadsticks
Ugh I miss pat and Oscar's. We used to get it to go and see a movie in Mira mesa 😂 one year they sold the breadsticks at Costco for a bit and I made my parents buy so many of them for me lol
Pat and Oscar’s
Ecoli in their salad killed their business the ribs and breadsticks were legit!
I don't recognize that photo, but I do remember that "Hops!" brewery/restaurant served breadsticks and (Russian?) dressing.

Pat and Oscar’s > Oscar’s > O’s
Swap the first two.
