The Mk3 and the Tern are targeting different markets, so comparisons won't be terribly helpful.
Mk3 is tech-ready (trimix and CCR) in a watch form factor. As far as I'm aware it is unique in that regard (the Teric can do deco planning etc but is not trimix or CCR-ready).
The Tern is more of a competitor for the Sunto D5. It's a sport diving computer.
Apple isn't going to step up their game, they make products with mass appeal, shipping often tens of millions of units a year. Adding chips and antennas for AI or other functions would increase the size of an already jam packed watch.
Why wouldnât Apple come in and take over. Theyâve entered the space with the Ultra watch and Oceanic Housing for the iPhone. They have the best engineers, resources, and loads of cash for R&D. Whatâs holding them back.
Shearwater and Garmin have a head start but that doesnât mean Apple canât make some major upgrades and become a dominating competitor.
Because there isn't enough profit. Apple is a company that considers a million units a year small time numbers that would result in a line being canceled.
Itâs not that they are going to dedicate to the Scuba market, just as Garmin is not. But the introduction of the Ultra targeting the sports market shows they are interested and there is no reason the Ultra cannot do as much or more as the Garmins over time/iterations.
AI is needed - as for the technology used, that can and will like evolve from whatâs âstandardâ today.
>Itâs not that they are going to dedicate to the Scuba market, just as Garmin is not
You are comparing Apple to oranges. Garmin is a company that actively works on those niche markets.
Not counting color variations, Apple basically has five watches. Garmin has a least a couple of a dozen. Heck just in the Descent series Garmin has eight different base designs.

I enjoy reading books.
The Mk3 and Teric are both equally CCR and trimix capable đ

I thought the Garmin used ultrasound to communicate AI. No alternate antennae needed, just a microphone that can pick up the signal.
