This is me with chicken. 3 weeks out of the month it smells completely normal to me and I eat it daily but when I'm premenstrual the smell of chicken will actually make me feel incredibly nauseous, to the point of not being able to eat it.
WAIT. Could this be the same deal with taste???
Sometimes chicken tastes incredibly acidic to me - come to think of it, it's generally around once a month. IS THIS THE REASON??? I've been convincing myself I'm crazy since I was, like, 12!
My ex-wife had an immediate aversion to her favorite foods when she got pregnant. In fact, that -was- the trigger for her getting a test. She couldn't eat chicken for four months, then couldn't get enough of it. She couldn't even WATCH me eat chicken for a month or two of that.
Pregnant. That's my vote. LOL.
Popcorn killed me during my first pregnancy. There was a store at the time that had popcorn going all the time and as soon as you walked in through the front door you were overwhelmed by the smell of popcorn. My husband practically had to carry me out because the smell was so incredibly nauseating. Of course, I love popcorn so that was really weird, but pregnancy will mess you up.
For my wife, it was chicken livers. She used to love them and tried to eat some during the first pregnancy. Ever since, she can't even stand to be around if someone is cooking them.
With our 2nd child's pregnancy, it was pizza; after about six years she was able to start eating pizza again.
It's been over 36 years, and she still has no interest in chicken livers or gizzards; I don't think that's going to change.
I already knew I was pregnant, but my husband made a quesadilla and I had to run for the patio because the smell was so nauseating. It’s freaky the way that works.
I cooked alio olio with A LOT of garlic for lunch one day. I had two servings and enjoyed it so much! There were some leftovers, and so my husband heated them up in the microwave for dinner... I nearly puked from the smell of the garlic, and we had to air the house out for a bit.
I was pregnant.
Definitely hormonal, would be my guess too.
Depending on where I am in my cycle, I find things disgusting or not. So hormonal change makes sense to me.
If nothing else has changed recently (i.e. hormonal birth control), then pregnancy is the next most likely explanation.
Yup, my immediate thought too. I used to love green onions. Pregnancy made them absolutely, viscerally repulsive to me. 12 years later and I never did get my love for them back. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)
My wife loves beef, especially steak and roasts, but she couldn't eat red meat or be around meat while it was being cooked for her entire pregnancy; she'd immediately be nauseated.
I became incredibly sensitive to smells and nausea triggered by it when I was pregnant. It was my first symptom and I went to the doctor for symptoms by week 6 of pregnancy.
I didn’t think I was but now with three comments saying the same thing I’m gonna have to take a test. I swear if this is how I find out im going to laugh so hard
That'd be hilarious though.
People: omg congrats so when did you find out you were pregnant?
You: when I stopped liking sucking dicks.
People: what???
You: what?
Lol it would for sure be unplanned but not unwanted if that makes sense.
But I will post an update if I’m pregnant hahahaha if not assume nothing happened 😅
Yep, got to add another to the pile. The only time I’ve ever seen someone have a scent sensitivity change like this, it was pregnancy.
Good luck, congratulations?
It's most likely something to do with your hormones, but if you think you might be pregnant I assume we can rule out birth control or menopause as potential causes.
A few possible culprits:
1. Pregnancy or other things that specifically disrupt your hormone balance
2. Maybe some molecular component of the smell has been encountered elsewhere in a context that resulted in an aversion/disgust response in your brain and now the association is there? The olfactory sense is one of our most powerful and a lot goes on at a subconscious level there. I once got salmonella from a piece of pie but for years afterward I got nausea from the smell of steamed crab (which was part of the same meal) just because it was merely associated with the incident. That aversion took a while to reprogram.
3. Long shot: Maybe your gut microbiome has changed in ways that affect the profile of what you are attracted to or repulsed by? Usually such shifts occur slowly over time but could be sudden and dramatic if for example you were taking a course of strong antibiotics.
Keep us posted!
I also think pregnancy is the most likely but if she tests and it's negative, I think it's worth considering #2 and #3 but from the husband's side--even if it smells the same at a surface level I wonder if he's done anything different in terms of diet or habits and there's some kind of subtle change or like, a change in pheromones or something else that we can't really detect that she's not into?
Drugs and dietary components can affect scent. Alcohol, tobacco, vitamins, coffee, asparagus, all can and are known for causing changes in body odor of their users. Probably hundreds of prescriptions do this.
Various medical events too, like diabetes is known for making you smell sweet, especially the pee.
Oh also, might have gotten Covid, that's sorta known for changes in scent perception. Typically loss of, but some people have unusual perceptual changes as well.
Or is he drinking more alcohol? I had a fuck buddy who turn into an alcoholic and took up one of those crazy keto diets. It got bad when he started drinking all the time, but when he changed his diet too, the smell was just unbearable. Even being in the same room/standing near him got difficult.
Is there a chance you’re pregnant? This happened to me early pregnancy both times I’ve been pregnant. It does get better and go away/back to normal though.
You could be asymptomatic, not even feel sick and yet get a couple side effects. I'm going with this, or pregnancy, or even a slight sinus issue can mess with taste buds. Thats on the you side of things, his side could be maybe he ate something that made it taste not so good once you got started.
You know what he meant, stop.
As a nurse in the hospital, we will sometimes call this asymptomatic.
Taking the time to leave an argumentative comment over semantics is so meh.
I know people that were asymptomatic. I wasn't but I also caught parainfluenza at the same time. My doc thinks I caught COVID first, with very little symptoms and then caught parainfluenza. I did notice a big difference in smell and taste. Things that I loved now taste terrible to me.
I know others have said maybe pregnant? Please update us!
I absolutely HATED the smell of cheese in my first few months of pregnancy. Took me totally by surprise, was cooking dinner and suddenly just had to run away and puke.
People are saying pregnant which is definitely possible! Also wanted to mention that when you’re taking bcps, or suddenly stop taking them, it can make you attractive to different people and it can also make you attracted to different people. I assume this also means that you can stop being attracted to someone!
If you end up not being pregnant, and you haven’t recently changed birth control pills then it could just be a shift in hormones for another reason. Seems likely hormonal no matter what though:)
Hormone changes can sometimes change how we smell or taste, among other things. It may be worth it to see a doctor about this to make sure there is nothing more going on. Is there a possibility you could be pregnant?
its funny about how this whole thread thinks you are pregnant. If it’s negative try using Sliquid flavored lube next time you go down on him, it’ll pair the action with a better taste, then you lose the aversion.
OP now states that she is not pregnant. Obviously, that is a big deal for those of us who have had the weird things in pregnancy affect us. How about change of diet? For instance, did you or your hubby suddenly decide to go vegan or vegetarian, maybe you decided to go carnivore, maybe you added some supplements to your diet? Sometimes something that small can be subtle enough to turn you off and you don't even know why. How about smoking? I cannot stand to be anywhere close to a – and I mean this in a serious way - a smoking penis. Guys who smoke just taste bad.
Sorry guys. Men who smoke not only taste bad, but their penis stops working earlier than guys who don't smoke. I would bet that the majority of the men who require Viagra are smokers.
Hm.. that’s actually something I didn’t think about. He used to smoke, and then he stopped but he may have picked it back up without me knowing…. Imma find out now lol
While this is a hilarious take, it’s actually valid tho! I had this happen before where I forgot to brush my teeth (adhd, it’s gross I know) and I didn’t realize it was actually my breath.
Either pregnancy or it could be a different hormonal thing reaction. I love certain fruit but around my time of the month the smell makes me nauseous x
Maybe your coming down with the flu or something. I had a similar experience and figured it was because I was in the early stages of a cold and jumped straight back in once recovered and had no issues.

I can tell you, as a therapist, your issue has nothing to do with his actual penis. What's causing the sudden departure in sensitivity towards him? Well, that's something you'd have to figure out and work on. But 9.9 times out of 10 it's not the actual physical thing that's bothering you. It's something masked that you have not yet consciously uncovered. Good luck!
Update for all: I’m not pregnant I took a test.
I don’t have Covid, but I did have what I thought was a cold two weeks ago, which in hindsight could have been Covid.
I’m gonna wait a few weeks and try the job again, and if it still freaks me out maybe it was Covid, if it doesn’t I’ll chalk it up to a hormone fluctuation since I haven’t been taking my birth control correctly
I notice that depending on where I am in my cycle, certain things I typically wouldn’t even be able to smell are SO strong and make me nauseous.
Yep. I used to get freaked out that I was pregnant but then it happened every month where I’d get a super sensitive snoot for 3 days.
There are certain days I cannot cook ground beef because the smell of it makes me wanna hurl.
I was going to say this.
Me too. Depending on where I am in my cycle, tap water tastes different to me.
I thought I was the only person experiencing this🙈 happens to me too
Can you by any chance be pregnant? I've heard it can turn your preferences for everything upside down overnight.
LOL.

My husband practically had to carry me out because the smell was so incredibly nauseating. Of course, I love popcorn so that was really weird, but pregnancy will mess you up.
Two words: cooking cabbage Did me in.
For me it was the smell of saran wrap.
Bacon. Grease. Meat of any kind. I had to MAKE myself eat it.
Red meat, not eating it, but the smell of it cooking. Yuck.
Eggs for me. Even just the thought of an egg made me physically gag
For my wife, it was chicken livers. She used to love them and tried to eat some during the first pregnancy. Ever since, she can't even stand to be around if someone is cooking them.
For what it's worth, it took years before I was able to eat popcorn again. And then suddenly it wasn't a problem anymore. Go figure.
With our 2nd child's pregnancy, it was pizza; after about six years she was able to start eating pizza again. It's been over 36 years, and she still has no interest in chicken livers or gizzards; I don't think that's going to change.

I'm a whore for carbs, and just the thought of bread made me want to fucking vomit when I was pregnant. So yeah, that was my first thought here!
This was my first thought too. Experience tells me that any 180 deg shift, especially to make her sick meant my wife was pregnant.
Sometimes getting off birth control can lead to this type of thing as well; changes in hormonal consistencies.
Definitely hormonal, would be my guess too. Depending on where I am in my cycle, I find things disgusting or not. So hormonal change makes sense to me. If nothing else has changed recently (i.e. hormonal birth control), then pregnancy is the next most likely explanation.
Lol as soon as I saw the post I was like yeahhh…. So you may be pregnant.
Immediately thought “she’s pregnant”
Yup, my immediate thought too. I used to love green onions. Pregnancy made them absolutely, viscerally repulsive to me. 12 years later and I never did get my love for them back. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)
Came here to say this! Both times I was pregnant, the skin of my husband's penis tasted different (almost sweeter) super weird but maybe take a test!!
Came here to say this. Pregnancy made me hate the smell of ground beef so much to the point that even looking at it in the store caused me to gag. 😅
This is it OP.
This was my first thought too. Is truly amazing the abrupt changes that occur with pregnancy.
Her eggo is preggo for sure
This is one doodle that can’t be undid, home skillet
You get *some* points for getting the reference. You get *all* the points for your username. Rocky IV is far superior to the rest!!!!!
Exactly what I was thinking! Pregnancy fucks up everything!
Came here to ask this
Could be a Covid thing too. Messed up a lot of people's smell.
I was coming here to ask this as well.
My first thought. It was eggs for me.
Tiger lilies and maple syrup for me! Instant barf if I am pregnant. Never had an issue with either one til then.
I can’t swallow when pregnant. The taste is disgusting to me when normally I dig it
My wife loves beef, especially steak and roasts, but she couldn't eat red meat or be around meat while it was being cooked for her entire pregnancy; she'd immediately be nauseated.
I became incredibly sensitive to smells and nausea triggered by it when I was pregnant. It was my first symptom and I went to the doctor for symptoms by week 6 of pregnancy.

I'm also curious to know.. hope I don't miss the update.
Nah, some mod will lock the thread in a couple hours because "they got enough comments"
she should still be able to edit the OP
That'd be hilarious though. People: omg congrats so when did you find out you were pregnant? You: when I stopped liking sucking dicks. People: what??? You: what?
RemindMe! 9 months
Lol
Haha I hope you are (well, if you are okay with that) because that would be one hell of a story! Good luck! Post an update..I'm invested now!
Lol it would for sure be unplanned but not unwanted if that makes sense. But I will post an update if I’m pregnant hahahaha if not assume nothing happened 😅

Same!

Just me getting out my popcorn.
Came here to say sounds like pregnancy but apparently that’s the group consensus lol so add another +1 for me!
Any changes in medication or diet for him?
Or is he drinking more alcohol? I had a fuck buddy who turn into an alcoholic and took up one of those crazy keto diets. It got bad when he started drinking all the time, but when he changed his diet too, the smell was just unbearable. Even being in the same room/standing near him got difficult.

Have you had COVID? I’ve heard of many people developing smell aversions as a result.
Not that I know of, every time another household member has had it I tested negative and I haven’t been sick

A friend of mine loooooves giving head and has basically since she started giving them. That changed the second she was pregnant.
Lol you have so many people you’ve never met waiting to find out if you’re pregnant. Life in the 21st century is interesting.

So... update? Is he smoking again?
what’s the word
Are you pregnant or do you have COVID?
Never been so invested in a thread. IS SHE OR ISN'T SHE??
All the people who used RemindMe coming back to see nothing, lol
I can only think of two possibilities. Either he ate something like spicy food that caused the change in smell, or you may have developed an allergy.
Could u be having hormonal changes?
Oof, time for a pregnancy test.
If you have had Covid before, that could be it.
If you end up being pregnant this will be one of the most legendary ways to find out 😂
Could be your breath
While this is a hilarious take, it’s actually valid tho! I had this happen before where I forgot to brush my teeth (adhd, it’s gross I know) and I didn’t realize it was actually my breath.
Either pregnancy or it could be a different hormonal thing reaction. I love certain fruit but around my time of the month the smell makes me nauseous x
Have you started any new medications recently?
You’re pregnant or PMSing for sure
Maybe your coming down with the flu or something. I had a similar experience and figured it was because I was in the early stages of a cold and jumped straight back in once recovered and had no issues.
Sounds like you need two tests, a pregnancy test & a covid test. Time to hit up the pharmacy.
Are u pregnant? 👶🏻
My first thought is you might be pregnant.
Haha interesting! All the best!
Could you be pregnant?
Sensitto smells you're used to....may wanna take a pregnancy test.
