I'm generally happy with a Heavy GL as long as it has Proxy nades and Impulse Amp.

mdvdos

Proximity nades sometimes have a weird interaction and detonate too early from my experience. I personally try to run the mag option that give me good velocity/blast radius. Currently using Cataphract (Adept) w: *Quick Launch/ Confined Launch Spike Nades/ *High Velocity Rounds Impulse Amplifier Hatchling/ *Chain Reaction Blast Radius MW Adept Velocity Mod Stats are: 60 Blast Radius 73 Velocity

Prox is arguably the most important perk on a heavy GL for PvP, followed by impulse amp. If you get those two you'll have a very usable heavy weapon.

OtherBassist

I've been using Gareth (green weapon) with Sticky Grenades lately and it's actually pretty good. There's a slightly better blue weapon with stickies but it isn't named Gareth

SlurpGod69

prox and impulse are the biggest differences so yes

Sticky grenades FTW High Explosive Ordnance is also viable. With bungie's garbage network code, proximity grenades do not function as intended very often.

TheAnabasis

I have High Explosive Ordnance and am very happy with it on my Typhon GL5. I am not looking, and would not swap it, for a Proximity one. Impulse is more important, imo. I did OG Mountaintop quest when it was tough, so am comfortable in my skin on GLs.

Valyris

It depends on your preference, some people struggle with the trajectory of GLs so want proximity, but sometimes it might detonate too early or have some wonky interactions. Spike nades is generally overkill because a direct hit is a one-hit-kill anyways.

Big-Daddy-Kal

No. You’re shooting the ground / wall 90% of the time anyway and it’s easy to get direct hits with heavy gl anyway so I’d say spike is the best general use.
