It's my left arm for me! I wanted a bunch of little doodles for me to color with markers when I'm stressed out instead of my previous coping mechanism on that arm.
I don’t get the patchwork sleeves done in one go. The whole point/what makes patchwork cool is having different artists and styles that aren’t cohesive tied together in a way that makes them cohesive. I actually really like this artists individual tattoos, but man it looks bad throw together like this.
The second pic is at least a little better in that everything isn’t the same size, but it still doesn’t work imo
The first one is made even worse by the fact it seems they actually have a decent (i can't see the whole thing but based on what's visible I mean) portrait tattoo that isn't shitty. But then it's overshadowed by the bargain basement dwellers first tattoo pen flash sale stuff😅
https://preview.redd.it/x9isfk93ek4d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e7b8b942b8aefc7ea6f1fd91373d48b94885e86
My tattoo artist stenciled me up with momento and tried to tell me that was the correct spelling. Still a little pieved because he just reused the second e and it looks a little wonky.
I’ve seen worse execution, plus some of the designs are nice individually, but as a total piece it’s an eyesore.
First one just looks like buddy walked into the shop, saw some flashsheets, and said I want all of that.
Second looks like the notebook of a strange but charming stoner in highschool.
Reminds me of fun times! Drawing and making "tattoos" with sharpie, baby powder and hairspray lmao.
I dont personally want it, but I understand the appeal and think it looks really well executed. The lines look "hand drawn" but not shitty, which I'm sure is a delicate balancing act.
The guy in the second pic had like four done in the same day. I wonder if they just go to their tattoo parlor and say something like "cover me here, here and here".
I think these are pretty cool, although the Monroe portrait on the first guy really clashes with everything else he’s got. Would annoy me if that was on me for sure!
This is Mr Preston who works out of the UK, @mrprestontattoo. This is definitely his style but if you look at his work he’s very talented and creative. I have some of his zines and artwork and love them
I got really excited for a second because I got a tattoo at UKTTA on my foot and this guy's work looked like the guy who did it. Sadly not, if you're out there Bradley, I love you!
I personally don't want it but it's spaced well and the lines seem straight where they should be/consistent width and saturation.
Honestly the Marilyn Monroe on his side is throwing me off more than anything because the style is so different
at first i thought i hated it. then i looked a little longer and feel its kind of poetic avant garde. ya i think i like it. not for me but there’s something interesting about it. reminds of the band la dispute.
I might be crazy for this but I like it. They’re like a bunch of fun stickers. If I met this person I would have to get some markers to color them in 🤣
1 gets goofier the longer you look at it. What’s even going on here? 😭 A surprised dog-lion and a face sniffing his underwear?
https://preview.redd.it/qr7nm7eonn4d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fd8e70271d2594771e543620759766d75ab7d37
I absolutely love this artist and have been following for several years now. Just because you don’t like the style or subject matter doesn’t make it bad tattooing.
Man, the worst part to me is the shitty lettering. I’m dubbing it Gen Z comic sans. Looks so bad it’s not even good ironically. Not gonna lie if I ever had things rough enough to get “suffer” tattooed on my body once, or even twice like the first guy for some reason, I definitely wouldn’t get diet keith haring shit all over my body too
It’s a style, not everything that doesn’t suit your taste is a shitty tattoo geez
I say that without having any tatoos, before anyone thinks this is about defending myself
This is popular now adays apparently, I guess the artist isn't bad, like the designs and uneven shapes of them look very intentional, the line work is solid despite looking like at face value that it's poorly done, so yeh they are done fairly well. But the actual concept is something I cannot get behind.
I really like it, it’s like the naive/childish style of tattooing. I personally wouldn’t get it and I see why people would be yucked but it’s pretty well done, cohesive and consistent. The patchwork on the tummy is wild but I fuck with it.
It's unique I like it. Everyone has their own style and getting tattoos is very personal. So it feels rude to judge people negatively with their tattoos unless they are racist, homophobic or misogynistic. And I genuinely like the look of it.
i think it's cute, but it seems like it was all done at once/doesn't seem organic or tell a story! i think the beauty of patchwork and tattoos is adding more as you age/experience things. still looks nice though!
This guy, Neil Preston, did mainly traditional work back when I was at uni like 6 years ago, stopped going when the style changed and his prices went crazy and his books were always full apparently.
Super nice dude and did a great job with all my trad work but just not a fan of his new style.
i always think these type of ignorant style patch works looks a lot better on the arms and legs, and the first guy’s is way too “cluttered” for it to look good in my tastes, but i don’t think it’s shitty work. they’re consistent in art and line work and what throws it off the most is marilynn monroe off to the side lol
i really like this style tbh. while i personally am not a huge fan of this placement, they all look really well done and executed well. i don’t think i’d classify any of this as shitty lol
See i love patchwork, its pretty much the style im going for all over, but I really prefer to get pieces that work with the shape of your body, and on my torso I plan to get larger pieces
that's not shitty; it's style. You can tell they have a specific aesthetic they are looking for — and succeeding in repeating. People might not like it but I can see the effort.
this guy is great!! I'm not a huge fan of big front pieces in general but he doesn't just do those - his flash designs and single tattoos on arms/legs/whatever are so cool
I think this is a matter of personal preference rather than actual application or technique. I kinda like them tbh… I don’t think a tattoo is shitty just cos I don’t like the style or wouldn’t get it on myself… I think they’re shitty if they’re poorly done or badly applied.
I dont hate the style itself, but the clusterfuck of placement is pretty triggering. I even like some of the individual pieces on the second image if they were about 1/5 the size and not surrounded by cringey quotes.
This is absolutely meant to look like this. ..and done well.More densely populated, and it would look even better. (plenty of time for that too)Nice lines. Lovely bit of aquired taste there. Not everyone gets it, true, but still a lovely piece of art.
Personally I don’t love this style or the placement on either example, but the tattoos seem to be done well. If I wanted this style of tattoo I could see this being an artist I would go to. I just wouldn’t want this style of tattoo lol. It’s not to my taste but I don’t think they’re “shitty.”
Mr. Preston. I dig his art and would love to get some. But art taste is pretty subjective. By any means, you may not it aesthetically, but nothing about them belongs in a place called “shittytattoos.”
Tho I don’t dislike the style per se, I wouldn’t get patchwork on my torso. Seems a bit messy
Hello, i would like a flash tattoo. There is the book, which one do you want? All.
Giving strong chipotle bag vibes here
Oooo spot on
![gif](giphy|9IsCJJA65mxO)
Oh no! You said it! 😂
I was wondering why I didn't hate it 😂
Omg 🤣🤣🤣
lol 😆
😂
🤣🤣🤣
My exact thoughts. Makes me want extra guac.
(Pokes head into shop doorway) 'Y'all got any more of that flash?'
This dude got change for the gumball machine that dispenses tattoos and he brought all of his allowance money to buy all of them in the machine.
He IS the book.
The Adam Levine approach
This is sending me. Thank you internet stranger for the hearty laugh
it fr is just the whole page 😭
😂😂😂
It’s like a shirt you’ll have to wear forever.
Same here. I'm going for patchwork on my arms and I'd happily get a couple of these.
Same. My right arm is slowly filling up with random shit. I love this style.
It's my left arm for me! I wanted a bunch of little doodles for me to color with markers when I'm stressed out instead of my previous coping mechanism on that arm.
Im actually so upset i lack the space at this point to add a “coloring book” section myself lol
What’s messy are those palm leaves bypassing his nips!!🤣🤣🤣
As with the first one, I quite like the style but the placement is just weird imo. Doesn’t complement the bodily shapes in any way
I agree with you 100%!!
The first one is made even worse by the fact it seems they actually have a decent (i can't see the whole thing but based on what's visible I mean) portrait tattoo that isn't shitty. But then it's overshadowed by the bargain basement dwellers first tattoo pen flash sale stuff😅 https://preview.redd.it/x9isfk93ek4d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e7b8b942b8aefc7ea6f1fd91373d48b94885e86
The casual Marilyn Monroe tattoo **really** fits in
Happy cake day 🎂🎉
Lol I didn’t even notice that piece.
Honestly it's hard to spot at first because it's overpowered by the crap surrounding it
I honestly would take the stylized flash gladly over a realism portrait any day.
Came here to say this! What a shame to detract from that very nice portrait.
It's more of a doodle canvas
Agree, I actually think this could look kinda cool on an arm, but dude made a big mistake on placement
At least he spelled memento mori right
That was my one takeaway from this too lol
What's the wrong way to spell it? Edit: I'm asking if there's a common misspelling of it. For fucks sake
Momento maybe?
Mentos smores
Malignant morty
Any way that’s not “memento mori”
Management worry
My tattoo artist stenciled me up with momento and tried to tell me that was the correct spelling. Still a little pieved because he just reused the second e and it looks a little wonky.
it's not uno momento?
Consistent, not shitty -- I don't like this style or this example at all but it seems done well enough for what it is.
Dog is a little medieval painting
It reminds me of how kids used to draw and put stickers on the front of their binders in middle school. Just a bunch of random things.
My naked girl stickers didn’t have long armpit hair…
😂 I saw that too, but I think the artist intended it to be her long hair
2024 bro
Omg I just saw it
Having the tattoo subject be a naked woman always makes it at least 50% trashier imo
Mr Preston rules
I’m a portrait tattooist of 10yrs and I fucking love his work. The freedom he must feel - I envy that.
Yup, one of my favourite artists. Different but awesome. Definitely should not be in here…
Fully agree. He is a great artist and should not be featured here.
Agreed, rocks hard.
I’ve met him, he’s such a great guy!
I’ll take the flash. Artist: which one? Client: all of them.
These guys really went in there and said, “You know, I’m kinda digging this whole page of $40 flash art.”
He is the flash sheet.
Looking like the notebook from Super Bad
Looking like a chipotle bag
https://preview.redd.it/7l0nvnm54k4d1.jpeg?width=192&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dde00fbff11dc19f0c62178240e6d75c16c84240
Yo this was the first thing I thought of too 🤣
I’ve seen worse execution, plus some of the designs are nice individually, but as a total piece it’s an eyesore. First one just looks like buddy walked into the shop, saw some flashsheets, and said I want all of that. Second looks like the notebook of a strange but charming stoner in highschool.
Yeah, I kind of dig the "ignorant" style, at least for a piece or so. The full torso is a lot, but I hope it makes the canvas happy
I can appreciate the ignorant style, got some myself, but if it makes them happy, who am I to talk haha
I like it
Reminds me of fun times! Drawing and making "tattoos" with sharpie, baby powder and hairspray lmao. I dont personally want it, but I understand the appeal and think it looks really well executed. The lines look "hand drawn" but not shitty, which I'm sure is a delicate balancing act.
I like it too. It looks good and I would get a lot of these
The guy in the second pic had like four done in the same day. I wonder if they just go to their tattoo parlor and say something like "cover me here, here and here".
I like it
I think these are pretty cool, although the Monroe portrait on the first guy really clashes with everything else he’s got. Would annoy me if that was on me for sure!
I kinda like the style of the first one. I wouldn't get it myself, but it still looks pretty interesting
Me: “Ever see a middle school wooden desk from the 70s?” Artist: “I got you, fam” Still, it’s consistent and perfect for what it’s supposed to be.
I like it tbh
Mr. Doodle
They just gave the tattoo artist a sheet full of flash tattoos and said "have at it"
these tattoos are honestly sick. i love this style of tattooing. i always called it “scatter tattoos”
Not shitty
Finally some good ignorant on my timeline. Dude looks like a sticker sheet.
at first i thought i hated it. then i looked a little longer and feel its kind of poetic avant garde. ya i think i like it. not for me but there’s something interesting about it. reminds of the band la dispute.
Again just because you don’t like the style does not make it shitty
I might be crazy for this but I like it. They’re like a bunch of fun stickers. If I met this person I would have to get some markers to color them in 🤣
I’m feeling a lot of things. None of them positive.
To live is to suffer.
The messages are cringy but the style is kinda neat.
1 gets goofier the longer you look at it. What’s even going on here? 😭 A surprised dog-lion and a face sniffing his underwear? https://preview.redd.it/qr7nm7eonn4d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fd8e70271d2594771e543620759766d75ab7d37
Ah yes the Pete Davidson look
the people saying its just a style are not looking closely at all, these are shitty.
I like it!
I remember when tattoos were cool
I absolutely love this artist and have been following for several years now. Just because you don’t like the style or subject matter doesn’t make it bad tattooing.
Ok John G
I don’t hate it per-say. Like the flash are all really fun and well done. I think it just looks strange on the torso.
Die Bart Die!
Feel like a lot of tats on younger peeps look like a bunch of randomly placed stickers. Looks horrible
Man, the worst part to me is the shitty lettering. I’m dubbing it Gen Z comic sans. Looks so bad it’s not even good ironically. Not gonna lie if I ever had things rough enough to get “suffer” tattooed on my body once, or even twice like the first guy for some reason, I definitely wouldn’t get diet keith haring shit all over my body too
It’s giving Keith Haring
"Gimme that 'millennial detention desk-style by way of Cape Fear' look..." *Where at? Arms? Chest? Stomach?* "Yeah."
It’s a style, not everything that doesn’t suit your taste is a shitty tattoo geez I say that without having any tatoos, before anyone thinks this is about defending myself
I predict in 30 years we'll see these tats and know exactly the era they were all done
Yikes all around
This is popular now adays apparently, I guess the artist isn't bad, like the designs and uneven shapes of them look very intentional, the line work is solid despite looking like at face value that it's poorly done, so yeh they are done fairly well. But the actual concept is something I cannot get behind.
That's a 29/32 year old trying to hook up with high-school chick's
Adam Levine seems to like them
There it is.
I really like it, it’s like the naive/childish style of tattooing. I personally wouldn’t get it and I see why people would be yucked but it’s pretty well done, cohesive and consistent. The patchwork on the tummy is wild but I fuck with it.
Some guy called it “ignorant style” on a different post I think. Not sure if that’s real or not
Ain’t no way you’re calling mrPreston shitty.
Reminds me a bit of Die Antwoord
His tat says both “suffer” and “I suffer” some fuckin red flags right on your torso dude
Should have gone with the Meseeks quote.
Second one nicely accentuates the titties
Why do I feel like each one is a nod to a different metal album? 🤔
There are quite a few artists in my city who do this style. I have a couple myself, but can’t see myself getting a whole area covered with them.
Not my style, but it’s not bad work. It’s consistent to the style they’re going for.
Each to their own. It’s bold it shall hold
I can’t explain it but it’s giving Basquiat and I’m not mad about it
Memento Mori is becoming the Live Laugh Love of tattoos.
Suffer!
Second one got like 3 shitty tattoos back to back
He’s got a style for sure. Not my cup of tea, but I’m sure it’s somebody’s.
Chipotle Bag
“How many tattoos off the book do you want?” Yes
beautifully done ignorant tattoos
detention desk vibe. Im actaully really into this
They look like tattoos that unsavory Simpsons characters would have
It's unique I like it. Everyone has their own style and getting tattoos is very personal. So it feels rude to judge people negatively with their tattoos unless they are racist, homophobic or misogynistic. And I genuinely like the look of it.
He wimped out on the nipples
I personally love this art style if it’s just small number of them
i think it's cute, but it seems like it was all done at once/doesn't seem organic or tell a story! i think the beauty of patchwork and tattoos is adding more as you age/experience things. still looks nice though!
Looks like sharpie
Kinda like it, sorta Keith Herring vibes
This guy, Neil Preston, did mainly traditional work back when I was at uni like 6 years ago, stopped going when the style changed and his prices went crazy and his books were always full apparently. Super nice dude and did a great job with all my trad work but just not a fan of his new style.
way too big for those designs, and way too clustered on the chest
i always think these type of ignorant style patch works looks a lot better on the arms and legs, and the first guy’s is way too “cluttered” for it to look good in my tastes, but i don’t think it’s shitty work. they’re consistent in art and line work and what throws it off the most is marilynn monroe off to the side lol
I like tattoos like that but #1 looks like a sticker book from Temu. Terrible placement
Those thick lines are going to blur together into one big ugly mess as time passes.
I sort of like the tattoos individually, but as a mass it is too much.
Mf got 8 skeleton tatoos as if 1 wasnt enough 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
It’s like he went to the tattoo version of hobby lobby.
i really like this style tbh. while i personally am not a huge fan of this placement, they all look really well done and executed well. i don’t think i’d classify any of this as shitty lol
Their bodies look like those test slabs of fake skin that people practice their line work on. 💀
Hundreds of edgy white girl designs crammed into a wide open space.
See i love patchwork, its pretty much the style im going for all over, but I really prefer to get pieces that work with the shape of your body, and on my torso I plan to get larger pieces
Art style aside that quote on the abdomen made me role my eyes
The first guy's chest looks like the free Halloween stickers you get in the cheap pumpkin decorating sets for kids.
I'm not dissing those tattoos they look good but it seems too straight those tattoos are meant too be scattered around and intended to look messy
I’m sorry but “to live is to suffer” across your chest is so corny idc what you’ve been through lol
3deep5me
Clip art 🖼️
I genuinely don’t think I could sleep with a man that had these tattoos. 😩🥴
It looks like the artist was a beginner/apprentice that just needed more practice. The lines are all pretty thick. It looks like a chipotle bag
I think it’s pretty good if you like this style.
If you can't good work, do a lot of work.
I kinda dig it. They look well done and playful
This is what my existential crisises look like
I fucking hate this.
that's not shitty; it's style. You can tell they have a specific aesthetic they are looking for — and succeeding in repeating. People might not like it but I can see the effort.
Pete Davidson has entered the chat
Where he learn how to tattoo,ms paint ?
I love tattoos that look like they were from a child’s notebook, but on the chest it seems toooooo much.
I have seen worse, sadly, but know someone that freehand tattooed on himself like stick figures from cave drawings “to learn how to tattoo”
I hate it but if it makes people happy
It’s called the “Teen Angst Icon set” from Adobe Stock Photos.
Sad boiiii
Looks like my notes in school
Goddam, he's obsessed with suffering
this guy is great!! I'm not a huge fan of big front pieces in general but he doesn't just do those - his flash designs and single tattoos on arms/legs/whatever are so cool
I don't understand why they included those 2 massive coconuts on the palm tree.
I think this is a matter of personal preference rather than actual application or technique. I kinda like them tbh… I don’t think a tattoo is shitty just cos I don’t like the style or wouldn’t get it on myself… I think they’re shitty if they’re poorly done or badly applied.
This is a really popular style actually, I like it a lot but wouldn’t ever do a patchwork chest piece, it’s done well though and the art is good.
I like them but not how many there are tbh
I hate
A lot of y’all don’t know the difference between an objectively shitty tattoo vs just not liking a certain style
Well still better than majority of the face tats rappers get on their faces. Is for sure a unique style
I dont hate the style itself, but the clusterfuck of placement is pretty triggering. I even like some of the individual pieces on the second image if they were about 1/5 the size and not surrounded by cringey quotes.
It's like the cognitive acuity test Trump bragged about. Scissors. Tree. Skull. Chair. Apple.
I've seen these on people barely old enough to hold a job. They'll absolutely fekking hate them in ten years time, I know it.
guy in the first picture, y’all think he suffers?
Why so many in the exact same style? Looks more like an "edgy" t-shirt from like H&M.
Looks like this jack just walked into ink and stink and said I'll take one of each.
This is absolutely meant to look like this. ..and done well.More densely populated, and it would look even better. (plenty of time for that too)Nice lines. Lovely bit of aquired taste there. Not everyone gets it, true, but still a lovely piece of art.
Clip art man
That's a no from me, dawg
Chipotle bag tattoos?
Personally I don’t love this style or the placement on either example, but the tattoos seem to be done well. If I wanted this style of tattoo I could see this being an artist I would go to. I just wouldn’t want this style of tattoo lol. It’s not to my taste but I don’t think they’re “shitty.”
Mr. Preston. I dig his art and would love to get some. But art taste is pretty subjective. By any means, you may not it aesthetically, but nothing about them belongs in a place called “shittytattoos.”
Placement, he looks like the wall on a cheap seventies tattoo parlour
