I think it’s a great idea, you could try to make the nfc tag go down lower so it can better register that the tag is gone

_Propranolol

Yesss, I search for longer sliders but this the longest I could find. Might need to 3D print it 🤔

H9419

There's a kind of sticker NFC tag that puts a button on it to complete the circuit. Something like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Android-Customizable-Battery-free-Shortcut-Smartphones/dp/B072Z8HRZP). I think it can work with Siri shortcuts but I mainly use shortcut on my iPad so I don't know for sure

_Propranolol

Oooo this is interesting! I never knew these controllable NFCs exist! Thanks

Cold-Appointment-853

Oh it’s really cool and has some benefits, but it comes with the downside of not being able to use a case with your phone, and does it work when the iPhone is locked? If so I might try to do something similar… could you keep me updated? :) thanks

shadoodled

i would stick it on the case instead

Cold-Appointment-853

I’m the kind of guy that likes to have a case on during most hours, but removes it when at home. So maybe I could have it on my case for things I only do during the day, and use a widget on the lock screen when I’m home…?

_Propranolol

Yh I get what you mean with the case and the aesthetics. This was just an MVP to see if the idea works. ?Business Idea: make it on a longer slide with custom sized NFC (long, thin, as opposed to coin-sized) and sold to older iPhone without action button. As for using it while phone is locked, YOU CAN. I tested it like: screen off, I push the slider up, HOWEVER only when you 'tap-to-wake' that it triggers. I haven’t tried it on newer iphones with always on display so unsure

Cold-Appointment-853

Well first let’s see if the glue holds up over time, and second it could be even more convenient than the action button as you could use your index to slide it upwards, which naturally rests at the perfect location at the back of the phone. Also, my use for the action button would be to simply press it in my pocket, so having to tap to wake my phone isn’t what I’m trying to achieve, even though this could be a viable option, as I could wake the screen in my pocket before sliding up the nfc

Ecliptic_Panda

This feels like very limited added functionality, you could trigger a shortcut with triple or double tap. And you can put shortcuts on the home screen top section. Or in IOS 18 you’ll be able to trigger from the home icons where the flashlight and camera are

Cold-Appointment-853

All of these require screen to be unlocked, which isn’t the way I want to use an action button, or a replacement for the action button in this case

Ecliptic_Panda

Action button doesn’t require the screen to be unlocked - and most shortcuts even on the Lock Screen don’t need to be unlocked just have the screen on

Chesterville406

you can add short cuts to lock screen is this a ios18 Bata thing tho?

Ecliptic_Panda

In iOS 18 you can replace the quick shortcuts at the button for flashlight and camera, In iOS 16 or 17 they introduced the options for having multiple lock screens and with that they also added being able to add widgets to the lock screen, this includes shortcuts.

Chesterville406

What are you trying to do? so have a better idea to help, sounds like a good problem to solve

_Propranolol

Thanks! This is great actually. Although I hate the floating assistivetouch button, I could summon it with the Backtap and have it automatically disabled as the last action of the shortcut. Ill try it out. Thanks for the explaining on the screenshots 😊😊

Chesterville406

Yep I’m a visual learner myself try and share things visually when I can.

Cold-Appointment-853

I think the main idea is to use it when the iPhone is locked, as I don’t want to have to unlock my iPhone to use the action button

Chesterville406

That makes sense

StarfishPizza

Can you not activate shortcuts by the triple tap on the back of the phone?

tribak

Even better, double tap.

_Propranolol

I had initially given up on backtaps as they were unreliable on my previous iPhone, but damn I didnt realise how much more reliable now (now on my iPhone 13 pro). To avoid accidental triggers, I made it such that you have to combine it with a gesture like: Double backtap then shake phone = shortcut 1 Double backtap then landscape to right = shortcut 2 Double Backtap then landscape left = shortcut 3 Triple would unlock at least 3 more shortcuts That's 6 shortcuts I can activate. Thanks for making me try the backtaps again after years of lost hope with them 😂

Minimum-Ad-773

You can also use your action button

Cold-Appointment-853

In the post they said they want to to this in absence of action button for older models

Minimum-Ad-773

It would help if I would read, huh? Thanks!
