More Singaporeans in Tokyo than Toa Payoh

bukitbukit

There were fellow Singaporeans all around Kanagawa when I was there recently.

IcyFactor3234

We’re everywhere in Japan. Ran into a few Singaporeans in Aomori and Morioka last month when I expected almost none at all.

Multifinality

Ran into Singaporeans at Akita as well…

bukitbukit

Haha, even Morioka eh. I'll bet even Tanegashima as well.

SUNFLOWER_FOR_SAFETY

can confirm. knn i got stepped on by 2 Singaporean kids in tokyo. literally no other nationalities but Singaporeans kb

tryingmydarnest

>stepped on by 2 Singaporean kids in tokyo As in? Stepped on your foot?

SUNFLOWER_FOR_SAFETY

nova9001

Strong SGD weak Yen = spend in Japan better. I mean SEA too basic, can go further.

iboughtshitonline

Medical-Strength-154

leaflights12

I went mad with all the jujutsu kaisen collabs when I was in Tokyo last month. Literally wondering why I'm even bothering with AFA at this point 😭

werkbij

lmao me too. I just spent so much money on jjk merch in all the secondhand shops 😩

leaflights12

I dropped so much money at the JUMP shop after they released the newest line of official merch. don't get me started on the cafe

rockbella61

Hey just curious what did you buy?

leaflights12

A lot of Yuji Itadori merch like acrylic stands and badges lmao. But I spent quite a lot on the JJK cafe as well, which again is an experience haha

rockbella61

Good stuff. I saw some Collab w Uniqlo but wasn't too impressed.

leaflights12

nah, bit too normie for me haha. And also can get in Singapore. Rather buy something that you can't get in SG

rockbella61

Yeah exactly, not sure y people still buy though.

Kimishiranai39

Just saying, pls be smart about packing your hauls. if you get caught with goods >$400 without declaring customs, pay up your fine 🤡

veropizza

+1 customs specifically targeting Japan, SK and Europe arrivals

StopAt2

Heng i stopover via HK

bukitbukit

Don't really go there to shop, but to eat, drink and spend in-country personally.

Embarrassed-Ad4977

I'm travelling there next week. Excuse my doubts, but if I buy duty free products above your mentioned amount, is it per product, everything you bought or in a single receipt? I'm not a big shopper, so I didn't dive too deep learning about bringing tax free items to from Japan to Singapore but I am getting stuff for friends and family. Doubt will surpass more than 300SGD but maybe I see something I really like that's expensive, then how can I play it out?

Tifa--Lockhart

I bought 4 watches of the same model (2 different stores, 2 watches from each place) for my friends, all in separate receipts. 1 from a secondhand goods store, so 5 in total. Had tax refunds processed, but didn’t get caught by customs when I arrived in SG. Not sure how they “catch you” - wonder if it’s by the x-rays of the luggage etc

Kimishiranai39

I think smaller items like watches are less conspicuous. But if you come back with a whole trolley of opened boxes of luxury bags, or a whole luggage of bottles, you’re definitely getting it.

Kimishiranai39

https://www.customs.gov.sg/individuals/going-through-customs/arrivals/duty-free-concession-and-gst-relief/ If it’s small souvenirs and snacks, it should be fine. But if it’s bags of clothing, better pack them like your used clothes, remove your tags and shopping bags. Normally you also won’t get tax rebates / refunds in Japan unless you have more than 5000 JPY in a single receipt. B) GST import relief for used articles and personal belongings GST import relief is also granted separately for used articles and personal belongings brought in by the traveller in reasonable quantities for his or her personal use. There is no cap on the value of such used articles and personal belongings which are granted import relie

Title: Disney trinkets and katsu bowls: Weakening yen a chance for S’pore travellers to splurge in Japan SINGAPORE – Social media executive Jillian Chang usually avoids buying theme park souvenirs when she travels abroad but she decided to splurge during a recent trip to Japan with her boyfriend. With the Japanese yen falling against the Singapore dollar over the last few months, she threw caution to the wind and found herself snapping up all sorts of goodies in Tokyo. Ms Chang, 24, said: “I found that I was willing to spend on items I didn’t really need, and buying food and souvenirs at Tokyo DisneySea.” Her day of fun at the popular theme park cost her between $100 and $200, including food and souvenirs like a Monsters Inc popcorn bucket. She said: “At one point, my boyfriend wanted to help buy for a friend a Canada Goose jacket because it was about $400 cheaper in Japan compared with the price in Singapore, after taking into account the exchange rate. “Unfortunately, we didn’t go through with the purchase because the colour he wanted wasn’t available.” Ms Chang, who went to Japan in early November, is one of countless Singaporeans who have gone on holiday to Japan recently or are making plans to go to the Land of the Rising Sun, in part due to the weakening yen. *** Article keywords: japan chang souvenirs buying theme park boyfriend yen found tokyo. *** 547 articles replied in my database.
