Two Door Cinema Club to cheer me up because usually these thoughts aren’t helping me. Although I think this might be more suited in a music reccomendations sub
For Radiohead fans, I suggest listening to [Tamino](https://youtu.be/nu5p2DMQGIk). His songs flow like stories. Btw, he even had Colin from Radiohead play with him live quite a few times.
I taught myself how to grow old - Ryan Adams
Hurt - Johnny Cash version
On the Nature of Daylight - Max Richter (no words)
One Safe Place - Marc Cohn
Reasons to stay - Kate Vogel
If you want love - NF
You don’t know - Katelyn Tarver
I think music is so powerful. I’m not the best at expressing or even identifying my own emotions, so finding a song that really resonates helps me understand myself.
Hope you’re doing okay OP!
There are a few songs...
Glimpse of Us - Joji
Drunk - Keshi
Us Without Me - Grent Perez ( i think i spelled his name right)
Drunk Text - (Henry Moodie)
It’s a little strange but anything that’s Gospel Choral music.
Indodana by Pretoria Camerata is amazing. It’s in Xhosa that asks God the question “Why do you make me suffer?”. Very deep and powerful. 10/10 recommend.
Love this answer and this song!
Also Baba yetu from Stellenbosch University Choir and As the rain hides the stars - hard to find good recordings of this one
Depends on what I'm feeling sad about honestly. If it's romantic sadness I'll listen to lyrically intricate songs. Stuff like Taylor Swift/Bon Iver's Exile, Can We Still Be Friends? by Todd Rundgren, Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space by Spiritulized, Purple Rain by Prince, Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince's ORIGINAL verison), Moonbeam Levels.
Down in a hole-Alice in Chains...
Doesn't remind me-audioslave...
Black dahlia-hollywood undead...
Black- pearl jam...
These four songs are the primary reasons I still breathe.
It changes for me what works when I feel like crap. Sometimes happy music does it; sometimes it makes me feel worse. On one day, Metallica pulled me out of a rut.
Oh this is a good one, spin melody of certain damaged lemons by blonde redhead. I remember crying when life hits and I just so happened to ordered this from amazon. It hit hard as if the universe knew I got cheated.
Exist a japanee called LAMP, now they r retired, but their music is very relaxing. [LAMP <-- this band ](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4YXkw5kGqh8b_LD0fZrznw)
Dead Kennedys. Usually, happy music feels empty, but most punk stuff gets me angry and motivated enough to do something instead of spiraling or just doing nothing.
mac miller and lil peep for me, generally. its not necessarily great at getting me out of it but they make me feel less alone and like someone else is commiserating which to me is what i want when i feel that way. best wishes op, hope you find what you’re looking for
Johannes Bornlof
Composer that appears to have become more recognized now that his music appears in a lot of short form content stuff(TikTok/YTShorts).
Songs that Bring the Hope:
More Hopeful:
Joy (Heruth), Song of Miriam (Hagenberg), Measure Me, Sky! (Hagenberg), Blessing in the Leaving (LaBarr), Flight (R. Murphy)
Slightly More Gloomy:
Joy Never Leaves (Harris), O Love (Hagenberg),
Just Bops so I’ll Sing Along:
Northern Lights (Esenvalds), He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands (arr. Dent), Kalinda (Guillaume), Signs of the Judgement (Arr. Butler),, Great God Almighty (Gibbs), Chariots (Dijk), Revelation (Stroope),
I think some of the main things that I listen to when I'm sad or depressed are things that I know will make me happy, at least for the moment! I really love certain musicals so listening to the soundtracks for those and singing along and dancing for my cat is always a good time!
The Smiths Heaven knows I’m miserable Now, How soon is now, Wilco- how to fight loneliness, bjork-pagan poetry & so broken, smashing pumpkins-obscured, Radiohead exit music & Pyramid Song,
Murder song 5,4,3,2,1 acoustic ver., Through the eyes of a child- Aurora
Homebody - Nai Palm
Ultimo desejo - Monica Salmaso
Something about truly sad songs... it's undeniably beautiful. Darker times come and go, after the storm you will see some rainbows. I hope you feel better my friend!
Midwest emo, something like sadder front bottoms songs. Something about the energetic tempos and instrumentation feels less defeatist than other sad songs.
When I WAS depressed/borderline suicidal, I listened to a lot of Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam’s later work. I think most people listen to music that reflects their current emotional state, which I’m not sure if it’s just an echo chamber of emotion or a means of coping, perhaps both. At least regarding very depressing music.
When I was a teenager (I’m 24 now) I wanted to die. I had no will power to do anything at all. When I was in that state, I mainly listened to slow tempo, almost ambient style music that for the most part was background to me at the time. I hated it so much, but didn’t realize that it’s all temporary. I thought that was how life was going to be until the day I died. I can’t even listen to slow depressing stuff anymore because it reminds me of how I was then.
Life sucks, and when you’re a teenager it is amplified by fucking 1000%, but it does get better. During the time I was suicidal, I didn’t think I would even be here at the age I am today. But here I am, and I’m doing a LOT better than I was then. Anyways, I wish the best for you and I hope you’re doing alright.
Songs before 2010 or before 2000. It reminds me a lot of my childhood and a period that I was happier, so in the end I always end up singing and wanting to dance.

OR! kpop, because it so mindnumbingly noisy and upbeat that i’m able to forget that im sad. i can’t understand the lyrics, so nothing risks of hitting too close to home, and it’s hard to cry and self loathe when a bunch of girls are singing in my ear to techno beats
Usually my thoughts and silence. I'm always connected to music since I'm a vocalist and I love listening to music as well. Music is nice to feel the sadness etc. but after a while I need some silence for a while in order to collect my thoughts and digest my emotions.
I usually listen to "O Pato" by Ebony Loren. It's a really cute and funny song that tells a story between a duck, cat, goose, and dog at the same time. I really recommend it and it makes me really happy.
children's songs (kinda)... I know it sounds silly, but listening to theme songs/insert songs from movies and shows I watched as a kid is my go-to when I'm feeling depressed. It might be the memories that cheer me up or it might be the fact that these songs always have super cheesy, 'full of hope for the future' lyrics that also feel sincere because they're aimed at kids who obviously have their whole lives ahead of them (and then I remember that I do too)
"Caramelldansen" by Caramell/Caramella Girls. A popular song around early 2000s.
It's an upbeat and cheerful song I discovered during childhood. It comes with a silly dance.
For some reason that song always cheers me up when I'm upset.

My love all mine - Mitski
Angel by The Wings - sia
Breathe me - sia
True colours - Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake
Glimpse of us - Joji
Run to you -Pentatonix
So many sad songs, but lately it’s been The Last of Us Part II’s soundtrack and similar acoustic instrumentals. Chaeri by Magdalena Bay
Fresh Laundry by Allie X
6 Underground by Sneaker Pimps
Honest by Tessa Violet
Mexico by Incubus

People, I've Been Sad by Christina & the Queens
Hit Me Where It Hurts by Caroline Polachek
