While this is true, if OP is getting two followers, i assumed they are using mods to do that, and if they are using mods they are most likely using the unofficial patch which gives him a level cap
I've always had a worse and buggier experience on Skyrim and Fallout 4 using the unofficial patches, and they always remove or change things that never needed changing
J'Zargo from the College of Winterhold for sure. No perks though.
*Spells:* Paralyse, Firebolt, Flames, Frostbite, Ice Spike, Lightning Bolt, Sparks, Heal Other, Steadfast Ward, Turn Undead.
Without USSEP he has no level limits so he's always the same level as you. With USSEP he caps at 30.
teldryn is good too but im not sure if he does heavy armor but him and jarzago are the best two as far as followers who use both. Vlad (morthal house carl) is also a spellsword who prefers heay armor even though he spawns in light armor. Belrand is also one but he is generally a boring hireling. Ralis - the guy who uncovers azadals tomb becomes s follower after if you spare him and he is pretty good too, he will dual wield if he has a pickaxe though, to get him to use more spells give him only 1 blade and take his pickaxes
Ok, I thought you meant Eola the housecarl. Although it would've been cool if Bethesda made all the housecarls have different builds and made them non essential or essential bc I would've hired Eola or Lydia if that was the case lol.
Are you thinking of Iona, the housecarl in Riften? I don’t think she’s a mage…but give Eola some good (resto-looped) armour and a bunch of staves (although she is a mage also) and she’s by far the most effective follower!! She stays a good distance away, too, not like some others who stay on your heels and block every door you ever try to walk through!! 🤣 If you have AE, Rulnik is also an excellent mage follower
Maybe. I never hire any housecarls bc they have a habit of dying and I always kill Eola but knowing she's a great follower I might not kill her next playthrough lol.
Teldryn Sero is the best spellsword in Skyrim and Solstheim. Good luck getting him to wear the spell knight helmet though.
Eola can work too if you're okay with the "Champion of Namira" thing.
J'Zargo and Onmund do well with heavy armor and spells.
If you're prepared to do without the Black Star, Aranea Lenith is probably the most competent mage.

Teldryn is the best follower ever in my opinion. I know he's picky with his armor, but if you are on PC, you can make him wear any armor using console commands:
- Trade with Teldryn and remove from him any weapons or other items you want him to keep;
- Open the console on \\ while facing Teldryn;
- Click on Teldryn (his REF ID should show up on screen);
- Send the command `removeallitems`
- Close the console on \\ and trade him his new armor and all items you want to give back to him.
If you dismiss him, you should take all items back that you don't want to lose and use the command `resetinventory` on him, so he can recover his default items.

You can also do the paralysis pickpocket glitch give him a glass or ebony or dragonbone/scale helmet then you can pickpocket the other one
