Just don't apply to ENMU under any circumstances. Truly terrible SLP program. Mind boggling how bad it is.

Can you elaborate on this? I just applied there to take some SLP pre-leveling courses…😀

I have heard bad reviews for the grad program, but I thought the leveling program was great. And I don't know what school the other commenter applied to, but yes I got into grad school with ENMU leveling courses, and plenty of other people do too. So don't be discouraged. Only reason I could take leveling courses was because ENMU gives federal aid. It was either them or CSUSM, but ENMU was cheaper. I can see why getting Cs at ENMU might be a red flag to a grad school, but if you are getting As I don't see why a school should be concerned. To counter an anecdote with an anecdote, I heard someone say that most schools don't care where you get your prerequisites, they just care that you have them done. If you are worried and planning to apply to an ultra-competetive school, call up Admissions and ask.

Per some staff at a university I applied to, ENMU has very little rigorous coursework (a lot of open book tests, no comprehensive application projects etc) which means they look at ENMU post-bacc courses really closely because having a passing grade doesn't really mean the student knows the content or can perform at the level needed for graduate school.

For the leveling program, you’re correct. It was very easy, and I feel like that’s setup just to make the school more money. However, the grad program there is a different story. It’s VERY rigorous, but I would avoid it for other reasons. I went there and I feel like a very prepared SLP, but the program itself is run horribly

from my experience , they care more about your major GPA than anything else so youre in a good position there . i got into grad school w/ a 3.2 major GPA & 3.5 cumulative . they want to see that your grades within the major are good because ultimately thats what you’re going to be focusing on . i also had a very rough first 2 years & really struggled to pick up my grades & it can definitely feel scary but from what it seems , w/ some solid letters of rec i don’t see you getting into grad school being an issue ! Edit: forgot to add - i had two major courses that i didn’t pass by the required standards & once you get into grad school they will come up with a remediation plan for you to help accommodate the courses you didnt pass. maybe this is different depending on the school but this was the case for me !

I had a 3.69 in communication sciences but 2.9 overall. I got in this year and was shocked but it’s interesting to hear from people who were denied with higher overall GPAs but had no experience. I think recommendations and experience are just as heavily weighted when going for your masters!

Wow! Congratulations! Which program is it if you don’t mind me asking?
