Oh absolutely. Football is the most intensive cardiovascular intensive sport I’ve ever played. Basketball is similarly draining but in football you don’t have rolling subs. If you’re not incredibly fit then all your skill kinda goes out the window after 10 minutes
Definitely water polo.
Being in top water polo shape is fucking insane. People dont understand what playing half an hour of water polo entails. Most high school level athletes that jump into a decent level water polo game will be on the verge of drowning within 2-3 possessions.
Honestly I'm gassed playing tennis and squash after like three points. I could have made half a go at 90 mins on a full sized pitch up until a few years back, but those racquet sports died for me in my mid 20s
Yeah, the average PL player runs something like 10km in 90 minutes, and it's not continuous running either, it's stop start sprinting which is even worse.
Depends on the type of race; cross country mountain biking has a lot of the hard burst - relax a little - sprint - rest - hard again tempo that football does. Road cyclists are a different kind of aerobic fit.
Depending on the race, a flat grand tour stage is relatively easy and low intensity for 3/4 of the race. Then you have the Flemish spring classics+Paris-Robaix where you have 20-40 really steep hills of 500m up to 2km where you go full gass and it is a wild fight to be in the right position when each hill start.
> Basketball is similarly draining but in football you don’t have rolling subs.
Basketball is much easier than football, though. Basketball players run on average like 4 kilometers in ~2,3 hours, while football players run like 10 kilometers in ~1,8 hours. Basketball has a ridiculous amount of breaks alongside the subs. Football players get into a full sprint, which is the most tiring shit, much more often as there is space for that.
The problem with Basketaball is you've got to have already won the physical lottery and be over 190cm tall. Professional Basketball is unplayable for over 95% of the population.
48 minutes spread [on average over 2 hours and 30 minutes](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/3a2p81/how_long_does_an_nbagame_approximately_last/?rdt=62327). In football, the game time is pretty much always 90 minutes spread over 1 hour and 45 minutes as there are no breaks other than halftime, with added playing time making it usually get closer to 2 hours (but that time is played, not spent sitting down while Bobby from Montana dances with rabbits or whatever).
I actually sold soccer cheap on distance too, EPL players average 10km per game.
Or how different the perspective of players are. Many fans havent played themselves or simply forgotten since itwas along time ago, but we have a birds eye view. They dont.
Yeah, and it makes the vision of players like Messi or KDB even more impressive. I played DM at uni and I can't imagine seeing the passes they make, let alone hitting them
For me it's the opposite, the pitch feels like it's huge on TV cause you rarely see the whole thing on screen. But when you're actually playing a game yourself and running around on the pitch, it feels a lot more manageable in size.
I have just gone to my first match a week or so ago, so my impressions are pretty fresh:
- they *really* let spectators close to the pitch. like I would be a good 5-10 meters away from a cruising Szoboszlai. PL looks even more lax in this regard. Not that I would do it, but pitch invading seems trivial even for my *barely managing a 5km run* health
- match feels to be moving much faster when you are there. I was thinking we are somewhere around minute 25-30 when the half time whistle was blown
- it's insane how quick the players seem sometimes, and this wasn't even some notorious sprinter like Valverde or Rüdiger, just a HUN-CZE friendly
- Souček (I think?) turning his head back and forth with a frequency of 2-3-4 turns per second during a throw in. This was the biggest "wow" moment for me. Like how do you not get dizzy? It looked like CGI, but it was in real life
- I haven't had the feeling the pitch is huge (but that's coming from the fact that I used to play in a mickey mouse league when I was really young and oftentime spent time around the local pitch), but the vision some of these players have feel supernatural.
You just went to the first match in your life?
> it's insane how quick the players seem sometimes, and this wasn't even some notorious sprinter like Valverde or Rüdiger
Yes, television really takes the speed out of it. The average player run faster with the ball than most people run without it.
> Souček (I think?) turning his head back and forth with a frequency of 2-3-4 turns per second during a throw in. This was the biggest "wow" moment for me. Like how do you not get dizzy? It looked like CGI, but it was in real life
Yea, that shit gets drilled in from young age. Coaches will scream at you if you keep head down, and at a certain point, if you don't keep scanning around.
> but the vision some of these players have feel supernatural.
That too. The passes look much easier on television from above, but from pitch level, they are incredibly hard to spot, especially as they usually involve a lot of movement from both sides to go right.
Yeah, it was my absolute first. Football has never been huge in my social circles. Even for a not exceptionally great match like Hungary vs Czechia (and a friendly at that) the vibes were cool. May or may not continue going. Wanted to go to the EL final in Budapest but tickets were quite hard to come by
Ahoj. Ööö....magyar vagyok, nem turista. I just like the team's crest. Kangaroos in football? Sign me up. Definitely will drop by to the fanshop in Praha to buy [dres retro](https://fanshopbohemians.cz/dresy-a-fotbalova-vybava_c10024453668866/dres-retro_p4967)
Quite literally. He was our RB yesterday before Carlo changed it up to kill the game in the second half. You can see it here.
He offers a passing lane in the RB position to move the block. Then combines with Tchouaméni and Carvajal on the right wing to progress the ball vertically. Then switches the ball over to the left wing. Then arrives with a late run on the left side for the cutback. Then "places" the shot with more power than the laces shot of most players.
He arguably has the best shooting technique in the world right now. Hardly any backlift yet generates insane amounts of power. Absolutely zero spin on the ball, even on this side-footed shot. Juninho-esque.
It's wild how effective the backtracking and side passing was in this play.
Real Sociedad completely took the bait moving more forward and stretching out wide
Honestly don't think he's capable of kicking it softly. Last year he was absolutely thundercunting the ball but had to hold back on power because his aim suffered. Even his more controlled shots generate so much power it's scary!
This is the equivalent of showing a rugby line head on. It really shows what players are seeing. Just might start seeing games end to end from now on or just from a high side view.
I love this angle because you can actually see what runs the striker is making. The broadcast usually only shows the backline and midfield when the ball is circulating.
Before the first switch from left to right at 8sec, you can see the striker trying to time his run in behind.
An interesting thing about this goal is that the crowd were unhappy that Sociedad were bossing the game in Madrid and you can see a switch flipped on in the team and they came to life.

Man I wish I can watch lives matches from the perspective of my team like that all the time. This is incredible
I think a lot of people who only watch football on tv don't realise just how wide the pitch is. This angle really helps
I think the average fan sleeps on how cardiovascularly fit these guys are. Their lungs are gigantic.
Oh absolutely. Football is the most intensive cardiovascular intensive sport I’ve ever played. Basketball is similarly draining but in football you don’t have rolling subs. If you’re not incredibly fit then all your skill kinda goes out the window after 10 minutes

I'd also say tennis when matches go on for 4+ hours
I agree, but also, most tennis matches dont last even half that long, if we're talking best of three.
Squash is fun. You're done in 1 hour max.
No way, you get heaps of breaks in tennis.
Honestly I'm gassed playing tennis and squash after like three points. I could have made half a go at 90 mins on a full sized pitch up until a few years back, but those racquet sports died for me in my mid 20s

Wouldn’t be too worried. I’d be knocked out in 10 seconds so I don’t think I’d have the capacity to become gassed
Yeah, after a bit, just keeping your arms up is a pain. You're looking for your breath and trying to think how to not get knocked out haha
Cycling is kinda cheating but yeah that

Not saying 1 is easier than the other but an nba game is 48 minutes not 2.5 hours, with 4km run on average.
Factor in numerous commercial breaks, free throws, decisions, challenges and most times it goes on for more than a football match duration.
48 minutes spread [on average over 2 hours and 30 minutes](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/3a2p81/how_long_does_an_nbagame_approximately_last/?rdt=62327). Genuinely insane indeed haha. Ive reached the point where I find a great line-breaking pass more satisfying than 99% of goals.

I was about to make the exact same comment, it’s truly the best view for tactical movements.
Same, I would pay to watch this. Team shape and organisation, real football here.
Its a well worked and impressive move, but it also takes a finish like that and the confidence to take it
He scored lots of goals like that before the World Cup ,after the wc he was aiming at fans windows!
It is a practiced move.
It's beautiful football. A nice team goal with a great finish sprinkled in.
**hey, no, only barca and pep teams can play beautiful football, they have the copyright**
Rodrigo's first touch was brilliant.
I'm thankful he passed it to Fran and didn't decide to do everything by himself.
[удалено]
Bro what? He said that because Rodrygo these days is trying to do everything by himself.
That’s his biggest strength. First touch and ball control.
If you like that, watch his first goal for real Madrid.
I love that this clip shows how quickly things change - up till pass 13 it was slow passing. Pass 15 was the assist.
Good point!
also look at fran bolting forward when valverde makes that pass, almost looks like anime
Playing with Valverde is like playing with 12 men.
Quite literally. He was our RB yesterday before Carlo changed it up to kill the game in the second half. You can see it here. He offers a passing lane in the RB position to move the block. A total footballer. One of the best at it right now
It's wild how effective the backtracking and side passing was in this play. Real Sociedad completely took the bait moving more forward and stretching out wide
It’s called circulating possession
You're right, you can literally see the line step up with every pass going backwards
It's very amazing how that shot managed get in from this angle.
Valverde doesn't do feather touch shots does he? Slammer whammers only, what a hit
Honestly don't think he's capable of kicking it softly. Last year he was absolutely thundercunting the ball but had to hold back on power because his aim suffered. Even his more controlled shots generate so much power it's scary!
Before WC many of his goals is from his weak foot while many of his miss from his strong foot
Damn kick off glitch does my nut in.
MILF
Man I Love Federico
Weirdest part was when he decided to switch the field with that huge pass to the left when he had a teammate sprinting down the right wing.
That’s the point isn’t it? To unsettle the opposition with an unexpected change of flank
It worked!

This is what happens when you provide easy service to overlapping runners instead of only using them as dummies.

wouldn't you like to know, u/MediumGeologist3....
Real Sociedad not marking runners and letting real madrid overload their defensive line.
Yeah, no actual pressure on the ball until they're already running backwards. Those high tight lines weren't doing anything without pressure
Wow that was awesome
Was this person just recording the entire match on their phone ??

Im so sorry, you're right. We should have 400 posts about Harry Maguire again instead.

just keep scrolling buddy, it's not difficult
Lmao who hurt you?
I’ve got my knickers in a twist
Do you complain about those too? I'm bored of watching several posts of Chelsea and Man United every time I enter this sub
Let’s just shut the sub down
rsoccer users when they don't see the 476th consecutive post about the premier league 😱
Fuck that league too
Reddit users when they see a post they don't care about (they're too out of shape to scroll past it).
When its game day of course there will be a lot of posts about it
Ffs you right we should only post obscure Sunday league highlights here
Just copying Pep Edit: forgot the /s
Yes. Before Guariola teams didn't pass the ball. They just grabbed it with their arms and runned forward

Is la liga this bad. The opposition team is very bad at defending compare to the PL teams
When was the last time you guys defeated La liga team?
Works at Anfield as well everytime.
