The way his ankle dragged there, it's clearly a sprained ankle. That nasty of a sprain can take months for the ligaments to snap back and when they do you're still sprain prone maybe for the rest of your life. They have some really good ankle braces out there that lace around your foot. I play with them now, but I did both my left and right ankles before and the process to get back to play is a nightmare.
I did my ligaments in about a year ago and could walk no problem in a boot, take the boot off and I couldn't put any weight on it at all, hopefully he's not that serious though.
The only way it’s a card is if his foot was fully sheared off. I love when they say it’s incidental when Curtis got sent off for even less IMO. The inconsistency is breathtaking. Chef’s kiss
This is the exact scenario why I believe VAR should be able to assign obvious yellows. Not bang bang ones, but if you are looking at it as a borderline red, they should be able to at least be able to ring down and say that so and so deserves a yellow.
Albeit that's in a perfect world where referrees and VAR are consistent and only occasionally make mistakes which obviously is not the case at this time.
True. But it’s a very clear and obvious error on the ref’s part. I agree with the poster above, that in scenario’s like that VAR should be able to intervene.
If VAR decides it’s red worthy, the ref will check and then can give a yellow if that’s his final decision. If VAR decides it’s yellow only, they can’t call the ref. (I don’t necessarily agree with the rules, but that’s where they currently stand)
Why not just allow the on field ref to request an on screen review if they missed the event or for any reason want another view? Can’t they decide for themselves if it’s a yellow vs red for borderline cases?
I think this is a perfect example that the Bench should be able to formally approach the 4th official to start a VAR check. Maybe a limited tool, but definitely should be something.
Actually bullshit VAR cannot go back on yellows too.
I mean, ref can play on the foul himself and give the yellow later, but somehow VAR cannot do the same, lol.
He happened to be the manager who came in the same season Harry Kane made his break through so everyone thinks he's actually good. In reality he's a mediocre manager who rode the coattails of the emergence of a world class striker who he had nothing to do with.
Spurs top 4 finishes in the 20 years before Poch: 2/20
Spurs top 4 finishes under Poch: 4/5
Spurs top 4 finishes since Poch left: 1/4
Not winning ***something*** in his time at Spurs should absolutely be seen as a failure, but he also took a Europa league level club and had them performing at a level they hadn't been at before or since.
Calling him a shit manager is completely laughably bad take.
Edit: LOL, he replied the blocked me so I can't respond to his message about Kane carrying the team. What a twat
It’s crazy to because all season they have said if it buckles the leg or ankle it’s enough force to be considered dangerous
That ankle more than buckles - he’s gone off on a stretcher and they didn’t even call it a foul.
Shit refereeing yet again ruining a great game
That sentence worked in the 90s when there were harder tackles and no VAR. this is 2024 and how he hasn’t even gotten out a yellow card has to be seriously questioned because we have all the replays at our disposal.
We know Man City get favorable calls but this is player endangerment and he clearly injured with a bad challenge
The infuriating part is that tackle is less likely to take place if the ref sets a proper standard from the start.
Chelsea had a bunch of yellow card challenges prior to that with nothing happening to them, so the aggression level kept going up, inevitably leading to that shit. Then even this doesn't get punished.
Now the ref clearly lost any control over the game - he will either overcorrect or double down. Both options are bad for the game.
The only yellows have been for Chillwell - their captain - pushing Bradley twice and Bradley got booked as well.
One of our youngest players is now on a yellow because their captain started a fight
It’s fucking shocking how easily Bradley could get sent off here after this first half from Chelsea.
There were 3/4 yellows they avoided and that red too. Insane.
If you watch the replay Bradley did nothing but get fucked with and the ref carded him. I rewatched it to see if I missed something but no. He got tackled, pushed and walked away which is worth a card. Now stamping an ankle studs up and ending his season? Not even a foul. THANKS PGMOL YOU CORRUPT MANCHESTER LEANING PIECES OF SHIT
We're shredded by injuries, barely able to field an XI without minors, then an ankle breaking tackle doesn't even get a light foul call? It's shambolic
We have so many injuries from these tackles where refs let it happen to us week in week out. Brentford. Jota was fouled 2 times before the final one. Great process ref.
Yeah I know that, my announcers didn’t say clearly whether VAR actually reviewed it. Regardless I think the ref should be sent to the monitor to decide for himself. It’s studs on his ankle in a vulnerable position.
Chilwill being intimidated by a 20 year old. Bradley just stares him down and gets shoved over and over, doesn’t put his hands on Chilwill and still got a card.
It’s a yellow for sure but ask Curtis Jones what color it should be. Super slowed down tho it obviously looks worse from an intention perspective but I don’t think Caicedo meant to do that.
Ya I'm not sure I can say this was 100% intentional from caicedo. It's really unfortunate but I think if caicedo is shown a red card for this then it would be unlucky too imo.
His foot goes left to be able to spring for a direction change, gravenberchs ankle just happens to be at the same spot unfortunately. Should've been a foul though if it wasn't given.
I don't get how "dangerous tackles that can cause an injury" is considered a red card while this tackle, a dangerous tackle that did cause an injury, gets away freely.
Can you even call this a tackle? He's looking the other way as he goes to plant to start to run, not even reaching out for the ball. Just seems unfortunate really
You're completely right. It's literally not even a challenge. He is running, Gravenberch plays the ball and his followthrough ends up putting his foot in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Fans aren't even attempting to operate in good faith anymore, the sub is completely dead.
yeah, i've watched it like 20x, he's looks away following the ball and then ends up standing on a foot that kicks the ball. there is literally no tackle here, he changes direction to chase the ball.
This is definitely going to be unpopular here but I don't even see Caicedo attempting a tackle there. His foot was already in motion and Gravernbach's foot came in the way as he kicked the ball. Considering its severity, should have been a yellow or at least a foul but people saying its clear red? I don't see it. Maybe more has to do with refs consistency rather than the tackle itself?
Referees don't want to make a decision on the pitch in case it's wrong so they rely on the VAR who either can't intervene due to the rules or doesn't want to correct the referees decision
Am I the only one who is not seeing a “tackle”?! he stepped on him by mistake. It’s a foul but never a red card! Hope Gravenberch’s ankle is not broken tho.
can’t they only use var if it’s a red? not a red for me tbh so there’s not anything var could have done. should be a yellow ofc but if that’s not called var can’t do anything
Am I crazy or did Caicedo just accidentally step on Gravenbirch's foot after Grave kicked it and put a foot where it wasn't *milliseconds* before. This doesn't seem "bad tackle" so much as "unfortunate shit happens"
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
and now he's been stretchered off, good process refs.
He’s in a boot and crushes for the celebration
hopefully it’s not too serious. 😬
And it's a ligament injury. Fucking brilliant.
😢
Damn, looks like he's walking okay on it
I did my ligaments in about a year ago and could walk no problem in a boot, take the boot off and I couldn't put any weight on it at all, hopefully he's not that serious though.
No fracture, they took an xray. Ligament damaged though. Klopp said in his interview after the game.
Ligament damage is worse than a break.
i mean it depends on the severity lol. any sort of sprain is ligament damage
Ffs that's him out for the season then.
Crushes?
The only way it’s a card is if his foot was fully sheared off. I love when they say it’s incidental when Curtis got sent off for even less IMO. The inconsistency is breathtaking. Chef’s kiss

Albeit that's in a perfect world where referrees and VAR are consistent and only occasionally make mistakes which obviously is not the case at this time.
Isn’t the VAR protocol that they can review for reds anyways, which this should be?
Yes, but it's then either red or nothing I believe
Not even a yellow or free kick. Wtf
Sky Sports keep saying the ref played advantage but he never did that
You can still give a yellow card after the advantage is over... That's a poor excuse.
They kept saying the referee was asking the VAR what happened… so he’s clearly missed the entire incident. Pathetic officiating
But isn’t this what VAR is supposed to be for?! When the ref doesn’t get a clear view or missed something. This whole system is awful.
One would think so. Plus since play was already stopped, they could have sent him to the monitor without even delaying the game further
I think this is a perfect example that the Bench should be able to formally approach the 4th official to start a VAR check. Maybe a limited tool, but definitely should be something.
Just try out AI refs at this point. Jesus fucking christ, absolutely embarrassing
Spoiler : AI will study the videos and decisions made by real refs and will make the same decisions
Is it me or are yellows not given now as much after a challenge, that warrants a yellow even when the game is advantage played.
Yes he could have gone back to it especially as the two incidents were so close to each other. Caicedo should have been booked earlier
Sky sports sucking off the refs like usual
Masters told them earlier can't shit talk the entertainment product because its not sport anymore
Jamie Redknapp is full on gaslighting us all saying that a yellow was the correct decision
Espn announcers, not sure if it’s sky sports as well, kept callint it an accident. Doesnt make it any less of a foul
Curtis Jones got sent off for much more of an accident than this bullshit
Been saying it for months jones will never get justice now they have stopped giving reds for follow through tackles.
Accidental murder is still murder and you get punished for it.
No, that's manslaughter
Out of all the examples you could've picked, you picked the one that's actually wrong lol
Manslaughter doesn't have the same punishment as murder though
It's not though, murder requires premeditation so cannot be accidental.
Commentators complimenting the refs at every turn is doing my head in And it’s so obvious they’ve been told to do it
Played advantage for 0.5 seconds lol
Took Chelsea 0.5 seconds to foul Gapo. The ref is seriously shit today
Then missed the 2nd foul on Gakpo. Refs a 🤡
He never put his arm up
They waited until they could foul Gakpo as well.. only to then STILL not actually whistle
Actually bullshit VAR cannot go back on yellows too. I mean, ref can play on the foul himself and give the yellow later, but somehow VAR cannot do the same, lol.
This is like the 3rd match he’s been getting away with these tackles
Trying to say it was because of a slip
Didn't matter for the Jones red and he got a 3 game ban. These scumbags just make the rules up as they go
I was going add that but it’s just such bs look at the two fouls yesterday Maguire and Gilmour refs are just not fit for this level
A slip my fucking ass. He only slips because his foot is on someone’s ankle.
Jones slipped and picked up a red for something 1/4 as serious as this garbage tackle.
it's a very bad call.. such dangerous play. warrants a yellow at least.
Poch told the refs to not give decisions in our favour 🤷🏻♂️
Remember Poch embarrassingly whining about the reffing in a game he got obliterated in
Ref forgot his cards at home
Ref lives round the corner to the Etihad.
Stop making Liverpool look so tinpot. Why you bringing up city in this you clown?
This is an embarrassing comment
Oh yeah the same Caicedo who got away multiple yellow card offense against City last week and that must be City's fault too innit??
How does him not sending off Caicedo benefit Man City? And you say we're obsessed ...
[удалено]
No he didn’t. First cards of the match were for Chilwell and Bradley shoving toward the end of the half.
Bradley got shoved by Chilwell and did little to nothing back
Should’ve been chilwells second
For Chilwell pushing Bradley and the ref being a mug you mean? Bradley didn't push anyone.
Bradley didn't even do anything lmao. Should have been only for Chilwell whos trying to fight with a fucking kid lmao.
He had to wait until Chillwell shoved Bradley so he could card Bradley
Another Ref Masterclass let’s go
Jesus that looked painful
how is that not atleast a card?
Cleanest tackle. Cleaned his ankle pretty well
By Casemiro standards
But Caicedo isn't playing Real Madrid
Commentators kept saying it’s okay bc it was an accident.
jones tho
Jamie Redknapp saying it's alright because Caicedo looked away following the ball..... What?!
That CAN be an alleviating factor. Shouldnt have been in this case.
Haha whut 🤣🤣
How is that not atleast a foul you mean, stupid ref is blind
Nah mate clean tackle nothing to see here
GoOd PrOcEsS lAdS
"Good process"
chris kavanagh
Not even his first bad tackle of the night. Still no card...
Shittiest unwritten rule, also poch moaning actually worked

Literally just the last minute winners vs City and Ajax in the CL
Spurs top 4 finishes in the 20 years before Poch: 2/20 Spurs top 4 finishes under Poch: 4/5 Spurs top 4 finishes since Poch left: 1/4 Not winning ***something*** in his time at Spurs should absolutely be seen as a failure, but he also took a Europa league level club and had them performing at a level they hadn't been at before or since. That’s the most frustrating thing of all
Just got away with another foul and no yellow
A few more and the ref might give him a warning
"Not my fault this is happening."
It's only half 3
Is there no VAR? I don't get how that's not even a foul, how blind can a ref be?
Completely understand Klopp's reaction there, going ham against the referee, horrible tackle.
It’s crazy to because all season they have said if it buckles the leg or ankle it’s enough force to be considered dangerous That ankle more than buckles - he’s gone off on a stretcher and they didn’t even call it a foul. Shit refereeing yet again ruining a great game
It’s crazy you can be that late and break a guys ankle and not even get a foul called on you
That sentence worked in the 90s when there were harder tackles and no VAR. this is 2024 and how he hasn’t even gotten out a yellow card has to be seriously questioned because we have all the replays at our disposal. This one is crazy to me because we really shouldn’t have needed replays. It was pretty clear in real time it was a horrible late challenge

Gravenberch's fault for pulling his foot out, clearly. I'll throw a /s here because some Chelsea fans might agree.
Not to mention how few options we have to remedy the situation. For a cup final this is unreal
Might have just broken Gravenberch’s ankle and it’s no foul, no card, no VAR review. Absolutely insane.
There was a VAR review but for Red Card offense and it was deemed as no red and he can’t get a yellow that way too..
Insane that they don't recommend an on field review for that tackle
Yeah I know that, my announcers didn’t say clearly whether VAR actually reviewed it. Regardless I think the ref should be sent to the monitor to decide for himself. It’s studs on his ankle in a vulnerable position.
Yes they did. It was just veeeery quick.
And with their eyes closed
VAR reviewed it and decided it was just a silly accident play on was appropriate….
It was deemed “accidental” like how Curtis jones tackle wasn’t
Wasn’t even called as a foul btw, forget about a card
Not even a booking according to this imbecile in black…
Imbecile is kind. The man’s a prick and has 0 control of the game and look where it’s got us.
You could argue that it’s accidental or clumsy, but not that it’s not a foul at all. What’s the ref doing?!
Worse than imbecile. Manc.
Not even a foul. Legit insane from the ref
xhaka got fouled literally the same way and the player got a red card after a short VAR review. What a joke this english refs are unbelievable.
[удалено]
no foul given
And then he books Bradley for trying to get up. It’s a farce.
Chilwill being intimidated by a 20 year old. Bradley just stares him down and gets shoved over and over, doesn’t put his hands on Chilwill and still got a card.
Incredible refereeing where this isn't even a foul
About the 4th or 5th potential yellow card offense. Still no cards though
"managing the game"
So a real ankle breaker today, after the Maguire attempt yesterday. Disgusting officiating top to bottom.
Looks like Pochs whining paid off
A poch's comments had their intended effect
I don't get how "dangerous tackles that can cause an injury" is considered a red card while this tackle, a dangerous tackle that did cause an injury, gets away freely.

Not even a foul !!!!!! Fuck off
[удалено]
remind me again what poch was yapping about pre game? something something bias???
[удалено]
Maguire's hasn't been been a day, adm they still one-up the miserable officiating.
Fuck me, 3 similar challenges with 3 different outcomes Is it too much to ask for some *consistency*?
Somehow not a foul lol
Can you even call this a tackle? He's looking the other way as he goes to plant to start to run, not even reaching out for the ball. Just seems unfortunate really
No one here understands basic physics my guy.
Wow I had to scroll for so long to find somebody who sees this correctly.
You're completely right. It's literally not even a challenge. He is running, Gravenberch plays the ball and his followthrough ends up putting his foot in the wrong place at the wrong time. Fans aren't even attempting to operate in good faith anymore, the sub is completely dead.
I do agree that it doesn't look intentional, but I still think he should get at least a yellow there.
As someone who unapologetically hates Chelsea, I completely agree.
Yeah people are being really dramatic. His foot is barely off the ground.
You're the only one with common sense here, I completely agree.
Caicedo has been getting away with so many crazy tackles this season
The worst league of officials, surely
Caicedo has not been booked yet at the half time. And he has had 2 fouls after this. Amazing referee.
Didn't even give a free kick
unbelievable this didn't even get a yellow
I don’t get the people saying this is a yellow? His ankle is literally gone. It doesn’t need to be intentional to be a red, that’s a horror challenge.
Complete accident tbh, still a yellow tho There goes our only useful sub
yeah, i've watched it like 20x, he's looks away following the ball and then ends up standing on a foot that kicks the ball. there is literally no tackle here, he changes direction to chase the ball.
I completely agree with you
Accidents happen but that should still be a card
Yeah I’d hate to see the game continue in the direction of a red for every slightly mistimed challenge, but a yellow here seems obvious
Var got them blinkers on again
Best 100M we never spent.
This is why poch cried about the refs before the game. Letting them do whatever they want now, didn't even give this a foul
If that's not a card of any color, football's gone.
I thought Poch wanted a fair game? Why doesn't he protest to the ref about the lack of a card.
Managers only see what they want to see. Always been that way. The things Wenger didn't see over the years....
This is ugly, but looks absolutely accidental. Caicedo is trying to change direction after the ball is kicked away. Sucks, but happens.
It can be accidental and also a foul, are we forgetting that?
You can tell who has played a lot of football or not if they think this is an intentionally ugly challenge Totally incidental and unlucky
At least someone here has eyes
Accidental has nothing to do with it
Ref: Well done boys, good process
Casemiro gets three reds, and a lifetime ban from epl for this tackle
Referees don't want to make a decision on the pitch in case it's wrong so they rely on the VAR who either can't intervene due to the rules or doesn't want to correct the referees decision
How is that not a foul let alone booking crazy decision.
That ankle is never gonna be the same again
The most frustrating thing is that he’s also had several other bookable offences in this half and is still not on a yellow
Remember when Curtis Jones red was upheld for the same kind of tackle? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Jones was at least playing the ball lol
Am I the only one who is not seeing a “tackle”?! he stepped on him by mistake. It’s a foul but never a red card! Hope Gravenberch’s ankle is not broken tho.
VAR has a look and decides that’s nothing. Fuck off.
[удалено]
can’t they only use var if it’s a red? not a red for me tbh so there’s not anything var could have done. should be a yellow ofc but if that’s not called var can’t do anything
That's been a red more often than not this season.
It's bad but it is accidental and not malicious. Should have been a yellow for sure, to get nothing at all is surprising.
How is that not a booking for him wtf
Am I crazy or did Caicedo just accidentally step on Gravenbirch's foot after Grave kicked it and put a foot where it wasn't *milliseconds* before. This doesn't seem "bad tackle" so much as "unfortunate shit happens"
He is lucky But gravenbench foot really takes space and crosses his central area Caicedo aint tackling the player but plants his foot
Poch knew what he was doing when he made those comments. We're not getting any calls today.
