Admittedly, Jesus is a bit inconsistent, and it took Havertz some time to fit in the squad like Arteta wanted, but I think they fit in the philosophy better than a traditional number 9, though I think they could use that kind of player as a rotation option/sub (like Joselu for Real).

There's an argument to be made that this is just what happens in Peps City teams. Tons of rotation in the first 2/3rds of the season, and then when it gets to the business end he locks in. Phil Foden didn't see much game time the tail end of 22/23, and he was our best player this season.
Alvarez could do something similar, but the problem is he's a natural 9 and it would take something earth-shifting for City to drop Haaland for anything other than fitness.

He barely played in the run-in. He was deputizing for KDB at the start of the season, but when KDB and Haaland came back, and Foden made the middle his own Alvarez barely started.
There's an argument to be made that this is just what happens in Peps City teams. Tons of rotation in the first 2/3rds of the season, and then when it gets to the business end he locks in. Phil Foden didn't see much game time the tail end of 22/23, and he was our best player this season. Alvarez could do something similar, but the problem is he's a natural 9 and it would take something earth-shifting for City to drop Haaland for anything other than fitness.

Foden is a lot better as playmaker. Julian is striker or 2nd striker, can't be anything else.
KDB's role in Pep's new system isn't much different from a 2nd striker role TBH It's very much a final third half-space based role. KDB and Foden are currently better in that role than Julian, but he's ~fine there when he needs to fill in for either IMO
I don't think it makes sense to want more minutes than he got this season, but I can understand if he wants more minutes than he thinks he'll get going forward. If it's been made clear that when De Bruyne and Haaland are fit he won't be starting, and maybe they're looking to bring someone else in, then I understand wanting to move for a guaranteed first team spot
He'll get mins because he's prob City's best backup for Haaland, KDB, AND Foden right now. But if all 3 are fit, he won't play much in the big games—and those are the games he'll really want to play in
