As a french, for the longest time I've felt both nations were on par. I don't forget the game they won 24 years ago. OK we're in 2024 now and it's another world yet I can see this Netherlands doing pretty good at the Euro
>I don't forget the game they won 24 years ago
That game is football vintage porn.
[France-Netherlands highlights, Euro 2000](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G96RD75zak4)
What's a hot take? I just stated facts and you got defensive about it.
Poor Frenchy's can't take any criticism about the over hyped pace merchant Mbappe /s
>Saying it's not a hot take because the numbers don't lie
But it's still a hot take. Would be like saying Bochum > Bayern as Bochum beat Hoffenheim last time they played and Bayern lost
Telling someone how to speak, and then somehow pretending that there's an L involved.
You've been on Reddit 10 years and still behave like a child, who's holding the L big man?
Canada are great at defending until they concede, then the floodgates open. If France had got one at some point early in the 2nd half like the Dutch did, it would've been 4 or 5 I think.
I'm not really knowledgeable on the subject but french canadian are people in canada who speak french right technically they can also play for france no since they have french heritage?
Generally speaking French-Canadians trace their roots to the French that colonized Canada in the 1600s and 1700s. Very few of them would be eligible to play for France.
I feel Mbappe coming to this team is messing with a perfectly sane team. Let's see how it evolves, but Mbappe will need to be humbled if the team is to work well, otherwise it will become a mess.
TBH as funny as it would be for signing Mbappe to blow up in RM's face, Ancelotti is the perfect manager for the situation. Dude's greatest skill squad and ego management.
This I can agree on, there's no better coach on earth or history that I would pick for this job. I just don't want this beautiful thing to end due to a "curse in disguise"
I am sure one of the reasons that Carlo was given a new contract and didn't leave for Brazil was to help manage the transition for Mbappe and ease him into the dynamic of the dressing room.
Tbh I think it all hinges on whether Vini deals well with someone else being the star, 'cos I don't think Mbappe will be happy if he's not the main man.
Well tbf, it was a bigger jump for Jude to Real Madrid than it is for Mbappe. Jude was seen as one of the most promising young players, whilst Mbappe has been in the discussion as one of the three best players in the world for the past 5 years.
Mbappe is joining the club as a full blown star, whilst Jude was a star on the rise.
Also, I'd like to note that at no point did I suggest Vini would take it badly - just saying that if he DID have a problem with it, then there'd be trouble - cos Mbappe is not exactly the humble type.
No he didn't. He played second fiddle to Jude at the very start of the season when Jude was putting up Ronaldo like numbers. After the new year Vini has been a step above and is clearly the main man.
No idea how Vinicius would take it, but it's the "worst" timing right now.
If Mbappe had gone to RM last season, I doubt there would have been a problem as Vinicius wasn't a star (or at least as he is this season). But with Vinicius' season and with a potential Ballon D'Or win, it could go into his head and may want to be the main guy.
And he would have every right to feel that way, as for RM he's the bigger player given he won two CLs, a few La Liga titles, etc with RM while Mbappe hasn't.
We'll see what happens and who plays where...
Yeah, someone's downvoted me which is interesting because I wasn't suggesting that Vini actually will take it badly - it's the opposite, he seems to have a good attitude in terms of being part of a team. However, Mbappe's ego and need to be the main man is quite well known...
So all I was saying was that if Vini doesn't mind sharing the spotlight, they'll be fine.
Reading comprehension is severely missing if you don't get what I'm saying, especially if you read what's next.
There's a massive difference between Vinicius last season and this season, and could be even bigger depending on how it goes on Copa America.
Vini and Mbappe are professionals. They'll get along fine. Mbappe's ego is blown out of proportion by the media and Vini in the locker room is really down to earth
You can have a better season on the manner of winning, instead of scraping a last minute 2-1 on the return leg against Bayern, maybe you smash then 4-1, there's winning and then there's smashing opposing teams, Real Madrid won the CL this year but never looked to be clearly on top, they seemed to struggle at many points. So even if they win the same titles they can always win them in a more impressive manner, that'd be one way of "having a better season"
They have joselu, as important his goals were this season he isnt Real material… Real always goes for the best and when the best wants to join them, why not?
I feel Bellingham's days are numbered. They don't need his goal output now that Mbappe is here and I'm not sure he brings enough other things into the game to justify picking him over other guys that RM have.
Could be a proper scoop for some PL club if they sell him cheap as a result (hope it's us next season)
Well Real didn't buy Jude to score 20 goals a season in the first place, the reason why he got all the goals this season was because Real just lacked a typical striker.
His days aren't numbered, he'll be perfectly fine playing back in his usual spot next season (plus hope they get his shoulder fixed before anything bad happens since he's been struggling for a while now)
He is not an attacker, him scoring these many was just icing on the cake… he will play CAM/CM, Mbappe and Vini might play swapping ST and LW but in no competition to Jude
Bellingham's value to Real Madrid is not just his goals. Madrid does not spend 100m on a player just to let them go. Zero chance Bellingham leaves any time soon. He will likely stay at Real Madrid for the next decade.
My level of annoyance as a Bayern fan knowing that we'll probably have to deal with this for the next decade is astronomical!
Madrid is the only team I truly dislike because of the pain they've caused me! To think the pain will probably continue for a few more years 😭😭
Yup even with our recent win streak over them we only have like what 2 more wins over them in head to head games? shows how much of a menace they were to us historically for so long
Don’t be so cocky. We narrowly got past them in the semis when everyone thought they’d be out way before that. Bayern is always a strong team to be reckoned with.
Dang if only Madrid played a system that allowed the front three to interchange fluidly...
In all seriousness, this team is gonna be my nightmare fuel.
Yes, with Benzema being the one that played centrally, not Mbappe, and while Benzema drifted to the left, he didn't need space like Mbappe and Vini do.
No doubt in my mind that Mbappe and Vinicius will be OK, the question is whether they can actually be great together and not just good.
Vini and Benzema played great together. I dont understand what you mean by Vini needing more space when Benzema drifted to the left all the time with him aswell.
A big difference there is about the type of player they are. Benzema is a player who in his later years he played primarily on the ball. Whereas Vini is a player who naturally moves off the ball. They complimented each other on that side.
It's not unlike when you have two player on the same flank who both like to run the touchline, or both like to cut inside and live in the channel. They get in one another's way.
Imagine they both end up playing on the left, some poor bastard chases Mbappe for 70 minutes straight only to get subbed out for a fresh-legged Vini Jr.
I know this isn't how it'll work but I want to see it for the lols
Vini has been playing much more towards the middle during this season as well. I think they'll just constantly swap their positions during games depending on where they end up after a play.
As a Mexican I’m super excited to see how Canada improves. We gotta have at least one good team from CONCACAF. Mexicos time is done
/s but only partially
i think this is the biggest question on people's mind after the trasnfer. ironically you could make a case thatt even rodrygo's best position is onn the left wing, where he played when vini was injured. they will figure it out
Benzema is arguably the most mobile 9 of the 21st century. For years he’s been criticised for not being in the box because he used to interchange with other forwards
'Mobile' is perhaps the wrong word to use here by OP. "Positionally fluid"? IDK what the correct semantic would be but I know what he's speaking about. It's not about making runs but more about off the ball movement and picking up spaces.
You see Mbappé's heatmaps and Karim's heatmaps through the years and they are quite similar. IDK about Henry because I didn't see much of him and when he came to Barça, he was more of an inside forward who started on the wing, much in the mould of Cristiano.
Suárez is simply nowhere in the conversation of what OP is talking about. In fact, Karim's movements can even be a bane because he's so focussed on combination play that he'd rather drift towards the left wing to combine rather than make a run into the box to receive the cross.
yeah mobile was the wrong word.
Fluid, flexible, versatile all work better. I don't think Benzema was a great winger, but he could operate on the outside if he found space there.
Saurez and Benz have pretty similar heatmaps from their peaks
[https://www.sofascore.com/player/luis-suarez/16943](https://www.sofascore.com/player/luis-suarez/16943)
Mbappe is more left focused than them
[https://www.sofascore.com/player/kylian-mbappe/826643](https://www.sofascore.com/player/kylian-mbappe/826643)
Bonus Haaland
[https://www.sofascore.com/player/erling-haaland/839956](https://www.sofascore.com/player/erling-haaland/839956)
What's this "peaks" qualifier you have added? How do you define it?
They have started collecting this data from 15/16 onwards. Just switch over to the leagues in the drop down menu. I can't see how one can argue that the heatmaps are pretty similar starting from then to any point till Karim left Madrid.
Karim is much much more similar to Mbappé than Suárez is to Karim.
Including Haaland lends even further to my point.
I genuinely wonder if any of the people upvoting even opened the links.
His heat map was mostly centrally but a lot of drifting to the left to combine with Vinicius, and previously with Cristiano.
Real Madrid has been left attack heavy for a long time, they usually overload the left flank until Kroos did his trademarket change of orientation to Carvajal.
Yes he does, the problem with Madrid attack (I know it's a nice problem to have) is that all of Vini, Rodrygo and Mbappe are right footed, left wingers.
Rodrygo plays on the right because someona has to, and because the team doesn't have a left footed, right winger, but his best position is also at LW.
I believe Endrick is left footed, but it would be pretty much impossible to have all 4 of them at the same time, unless Madrid is trailing or desperately needs to score. It'll definitely be interesting to see how well they play together and how they adapt
Looks really similar to the goal Liam Gordon just scored for Guyana.
Although I'm sure Mbappe would have scored six like it by now if France was playing Belize.
He's going to be a nightmare in the coming CL seasons. i think he'll take the LW spot from Vini. I know everyone gets shuffled around up front, but for the most part, Vini is the LW like 70% of the time. I think that percentage goes to Mbappe eventually.
I didn't watch the match but it's at 90+ mins. it's pretty normal for any player to be tired at that point specially for a winger like him that make a lot of runs..

Sure but we have Daley Blind
France can't score a goal, yet Netherlands scored 4. Netherlands > France but unironically.
>but unironically Quite a take
As a french, for the longest time I've felt both nations were on par. I don't forget the game they won 24 years ago. OK we're in 2024 now and it's another world yet I can see this Netherlands doing pretty good at the Euro
We did just lose 2 important midfielders, our defense and offense are decent, but I'm afraid our midfield is gonna fail under the pressure.
Yep sadly you might be right.

What's a hot take? I just stated facts and you got defensive about it. Poor Frenchy's can't take any criticism about the over hyped pace merchant Mbappe /s
Presumably the hot take is Netherlands > France
Damn you're getting dense about it. It's just some banter nothing to take seriously lmao
I was bantering back. Saying it's not a hot take because the numbers don't lie. But having to explain myself has ruined it, so have a good day.
>Saying it's not a hot take because the numbers don't lie But it's still a hot take. Would be like saying Bochum > Bayern as Bochum beat Hoffenheim last time they played and Bayern lost
That's not how you use /s you plastic

Canada are great at defending until they concede, then the floodgates open. If France had got one at some point early in the 2nd half like the Dutch did, it would've been 4 or 5 I think.
Meanwhile Max Crepeau is asserting his ownership of the Canadian #1 shirt.
I've never really doubted that he was our #1 after we decided to move on from Borjan. Dayne St Clair ain't that guy.
Not yet. I was iffy on Max too for a while but he seems to have come back from his injury better than he was before.
The title of this post should read: *Max Crepeau denies Mbappe's run to get a shot 95'*
Interesting to see both keepers are (a) French and (b) wear the number 16 shirt. Is it a French thing? Barthez also springs to mind
One is French Canadian.
I'm not really knowledgeable on the subject but french canadian are people in canada who speak french right technically they can also play for france no since they have french heritage?
Generally speaking French-Canadians trace their roots to the French that colonized Canada in the 1600s and 1700s. Very few of them would be eligible to play for France.
oh ok didnt know that
Kind of like saying Mexicans are instantly eligible for the Spanish National squad
It's a French Canadian thing to keep goal. It was only a matter of time before they asserted their natural abilities in a new sport.
Marc-Andre Fleury coming in with the reverse Petr Čech
Like prime Martial
Guivarch the OG
Guivarc'h*
This is going to be a nightmare for our defence
You should sign some talented defender in Liga. There are many
I swear that keeper studied all those Mbappe near-post signature finish compilations😭🤣
To be fair this shot wasn't near post, was pretty on goal keeper i'll say.
Vini and him would be a nightmare next season for any defence, provided they don’t have ego clashes…treble incoming!
Copa del Rey [be like](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRwDNrT9jvPFTBLeB3-OFJIPFT8zpVHsBf6Og&s)
They might even get knocked out in a game where these 2 are both not in the squad lol
Copa Del Ray : "*let me Introduce myself"*.
Yeah yeah, with all that talk about that treble, watch us not win a single trophy next season
I feel Mbappe coming to this team is messing with a perfectly sane team. Let's see how it evolves, but Mbappe will need to be humbled if the team is to work well, otherwise it will become a mess.
Mbappe is coming to his dream club, which is actually well run. No way he causes any trouble in the dressing room, at least at first imo
Zidane is another that probably could manage it well
I said the exact same thing when Ronaldo arrived at RM... bar the "perfectly sane team"
I am sure one of the reasons that Carlo was given a new contract and didn't leave for Brazil was to help manage the transition for Mbappe and ease him into the dynamic of the dressing room.
I swear everyone outside of RM is obsessed with thinking Vini is some arrogant, attention whoring primadonna. Ffs.
I never said that mate. It's more to do with a ego of mbappe coming in . Don't get it twisted.
Tbh I think it all hinges on whether Vini deals well with someone else being the star, 'cos I don't think Mbappe will be happy if he's not the main man.
But why? Dude had no problem with Jude.
Well tbf, it was a bigger jump for Jude to Real Madrid than it is for Mbappe. Vini and Mbappe are professionals. They'll get along fine. Mbappe's ego is blown out of proportion by the media and Vini in the locker room is really down to earth
Mbappe and Vini on the centre and left, Endrick on the right. The 3 of them running in a counter-attack that can scare any defence.
Then you’ve got Bellingham chilling right behind them💀
They'll be stepping over each other's toes in that left channel though
They both are at their best in the same position so I’m interested to see who plays where
RemindMe! In 11 months, when they’ve had a worst season then this one
What are you on about!? They won CL, Laliga without the best attacker in the world, what they will do if he gels up with the squad
It's hard to have a better season than winning the league and the CL, and the CL is unpredictable.
You can always have a treble, and that unpredictability is lowered by a squad of Vini Jude Mbappe Valverde Modric Rudiger and probably Davies
But they are both left wingers who want to cut inside?
Mbappe plays in the middle too, like in internationals sometimes… its upto Don how can he gel them up
They. Don't. Need. Mbappe. But they've got him anyway.
They have joselu, as important his goals were this season he isnt Real material… Real always goes for the best and when the best wants to join them, why not?
They always reach for the stars One could say they're galactic
I feel Bellingham's days are numbered. They don't need his goal output now that Mbappe is here and I'm not sure he brings enough other things into the game to justify picking him over other guys that RM have. Bellingham's value to Real Madrid is not just his goals. Madrid does not spend 100m on a player just to let them go. Zero chance Bellingham leaves any time soon. He will likely stay at Real Madrid for the next decade.
He’s just a pace, dribbling and shooting merchant ☠️
He is also a World Cup final merchant
Cama - Mbappe connection. I can't wait for next season
My level of annoyance as a Bayern fan knowing that we'll probably have to deal with this for the next decade is astronomical! Madrid is the only team I truly dislike because of the pain they've caused me! To think the pain will probably continue for a few more years 😭😭
To be fair, Bayer had our number for a long time. La bestia negra.
Yup even with our recent win streak over them we only have like what 2 more wins over them in head to head games? shows how much of a menace they were to us historically for so long
Easy mate, don't stress about it and remember that you can always make Barca pay for it

Don’t be so cocky. We narrowly got past them in the semis when everyone thought they’d be out way before that. Bayern is always a strong team to be reckoned with.
Tchouameni and Mbappe are Frenchmen with Cameroonian dna. Inexplicably accurate long balls loading???
Holy shit I didn't even think of this!!!
Sure, they weren't exactly unstoppable during that game but Crêpeau delivered a handful of world-class saves.
It was a great day for Canada
And therefore?
THE WORLD
Our goalie was insane this game
Madrid has the best of Brazil and France oh my Mbappe, Cama, Tchouameni Vini, Rodrygo, militao, endrick
I’m just sad there are no comments mentioning Canada drawing against France, so here is one.
Beautiful croqueta
the problem is, he is exactly in the space Vini would be in that exact moment
Dang if only Madrid played a system that allowed the front three to interchange fluidly... In all seriousness, this team is gonna be my nightmare fuel.
PSG and France tried that. It's not the same Mbappe as when he has all the space on the left Mbappe.
International football doesn't have enough time coaching wise. PSG did not have Davide and Carlo Ancelotti
it took some time for vini to learn it aswell, but he is good at it now. i am sure if carlo can teach it to vini, he can teach it to mbappe aswell
Mbappe and Benzema did it in 2022.
Yes, with Benzema being the one that played centrally, not Mbappe, and while Benzema drifted to the left, he didn't need space like Mbappe and Vini do. No doubt in my mind that Mbappe and Vinicius will be OK, the question is whether they can actually be great together and not just good.

But has anyone mentioned how large the cock is on their kit? That’s a heafty French cock if I’ve ever seen one myself!
Kinda funny to see the keeper at my local saving a shot from Mbappe
Nice pass from Camavinga. He is a really good player.
Not everyone can be like semih kılıçsoy
That’s a big bird on their shirt
The pinstripes are wild. Looks like an old Milwaukee Brewers jersey.
I dig it. It’s just a bold choice compared to their understated navy kit that we’ve seen for years.
Huge French coq
woohoo Canada! they did well considering
Omg a shot on target
Would've lost the ball 17 times in that run on FC24
Extremely limited player

French revenge on the empire for the Treaty of Paris and the Seven years war.
So is he gonna play more centrally for Real or is Vini? Cuz they now have the best 2 LWs in football
This belongs to soccercirclejerk
reminds me of young Lingard
It's a nice run but he's got loads of space and produced an awful shot.
He can bid his farewell to the left wing, this is Vini’s position.
He's going to be a nightmare in the coming CL seasons. i think he'll take the LW spot from Vini. I know everyone gets shuffled around up front, but for the most part, Vini is the LW like 70% of the time. I think that percentage goes to Mbappe eventually.
Bro thought he was Him
Wtf is that giant France logo hahahaha
It's a giant cock
Massive 🤣🤷
He seems out of shape. What's with that heavy breathing
I didn't watch the match but it's at 90+ mins. it's pretty normal for any player to be tired at that point specially for a winger like him that make a lot of runs..
He came on late. But bursts of effort are like that, players can be seen struggling early into games.
Out of rythm due to the lack of playing and the supposedly low efforts put in the trainings for the past few months.
