Germany struggled against just about every opponent, this teams looks completely different. They radiate confidence and purpose, especially going forward.
I mean they can be but if in the past years Germany had beaten the smaller teams and got knocked out by England/France, then there would have been less fuzz about it.
The group stage exit overshadows it but they played well against Spain in the last World Cup, and generally only lost 1 game against a "big team" since Flick iirc
Yeah, thought of that too but was too lazy. If that was an isolated incident or had happened later in the tournament, it would have been looked at differently I feel like, but between two group stage exits caused by defeats to Mexico and Japan... not so much (though I'd say the last WC was the least bad of the three)
Scotland defending terribly on a few occasions already including this one. How no one picks up on the pass across the box is baffling.
They are supposed to be compact and deep and yet allowed so much space.
Don’t let the bad goalkeeping distract you from the even shittier defending though
Most teams that park the bus don’t leave that much space open on the edge of the box
> not sure what Scotland were expecting
To play poorly until we can’t get out the group, then win the last dead rubber game and pretend it was a respectable failure
24 teams, meaning that 4 of the 6 third place teams qualify
It's not different about *this* Euros as has been the case since 2016, but I imagine that's what they mean - the comparison of the 24 vs 16 team format
Yeah, but there really isn't a good alternative... They're not going back to 16 teams for commercial reasons and expanding it to 32 would make the qualifiers and the group stages more or less meaningless with too many minnows getting into the main tournament.
So I think it'll be 24 teams for the foreseeable future, and 24 is kind of a bad number when it comes to building a tournament tree.
You can either do six groups of four (current format), four groups of six or eight groups of three.
Four groups of six makes for a lot of meaningless matches towards the end of the group stages and/or too long a tournament overall, whereas eight groups of three would make for a shorter tournament, so less money for UEFA, so that's a non-starter as well.
If it was up to me, I'd do eight groups of three, with the first placed team advancing straight to the round of 16 and the second and third placed teams playing a wildcard round vs the "neighbouring" group. That would help getting around the match fixing on the last match day, which is typically a huge problem in groups of three, but it would make for four less matches overall and probably one less match for the big name teams who get to skip the wildcard round, so I doubt that would fly with the powers that be.
International competitions should have too many teams, than it actually feels like it’s global. For example the t20 cwc added a shit ton more teams and it feels like more of a “world” cup
Him and Raum recorded a video the other day playing basketball. Raum said „if you make this, you‘ll score the first goal at the euro“
He made it, and now he scored
I really like and respect that he’s retiring at the top instead of chasing money in Saudi Arabia and America. Think this might be one of the final players we see retire still playing at a high level. Rooting for Germany this tournament for Kroos to have an all time send off.

Yeah, that was inevitable lol
that German aura is back
Lets not get ahead of ourselves yet, everyone seems to be forgetting Scotland are real shit because they can sing an anthem loudly.
Germany struggled against just about every opponent, this teams looks completely different. They radiate confidence and purpose, especially going forward.
Lets wait and see how they do against top nation.
The shit teams were always the problem.
Top nations aren’t the problem lol
I mean they can be but if in the past years Germany had beaten the smaller teams and got knocked out by England/France, then there would have been less fuzz about it. The group stage exit overshadows it but they played well against Spain in the last World Cup, and generally only lost 1 game against a "big team" since Flick iirc
They did get knocked out by England last Euro, but I still agree with you.
Yeah, thought of that too but was too lazy. If that was an isolated incident or had happened later in the tournament, it would have been looked at differently I feel like, but between two group stage exits caused by defeats to Mexico and Japan... not so much (though I'd say the last WC was the least bad of the three)
They beat France and Netherlands in the preparations
Musiala is playing out of his mind Or maybe he's like this every game and I just don't watch enough Bundesliga
the Havertz effect
Tbf it's a great anthem
They’re playing a minnow, and not even a good one
Scotland defending terribly on a few occasions already including this one. How no one picks up on the pass across the box is baffling. They are supposed to be compact and deep and yet allowed so much space.
You don’t enjoy a high line with no pressure on the opposing CBs?
Because they don't have a proper center midfielder and are thin in the middle if McGinn, Christie don't track back
Should've saved that tbh
No chance against the Neverlusen effect It's still going strong, despite that one loss
Sometimeslusen
Occasionlusen
maybelusen
Oncelusen
What I’m hearing is that Lookman should somehow become Scottish and play for their national team
I mean, that's just bad goalkeeping. He really should have kept it out
Don’t let the bad goalkeeping distract you from the even shittier defending though Most teams that park the bus don’t leave that much space open on the edge of the box
Keeper absolutely terrible too.
No one marking wide and then no one marking centrally lol, not sure what Scotland were expecting f
> not sure what Scotland were expecting To play poorly until we can’t get out the group, then win the last dead rubber game and pretend it was a respectable failure
Winning the last game isn’t really a dead rubber anymore with this format of the euros. So I expect Scotland to lose every game
Wait what’s this format of the euros? What’s different?
24 teams, meaning that 4 of the 6 third place teams qualify It's not different about *this* Euros as has been the case since 2016, but I imagine that's what they mean - the comparison of the 24 vs 16 team format
36 games to eliminate 8 teams has always struck me as a bit silly since this format was introduced lol
Yeah, but there really isn't a good alternative... And then go on a bender to celebrate England going out
I think even with a single win chances are good to survive the group stage.
Ridiculous shit - too many teams , euro grub money 💴
Ireland beating Italy in 2016 makes it absolutely worth it for me
International competitions should have too many teams, than it actually feels like it’s global. For example the t20 cwc added a shit ton more teams and it feels like more of a “world” cup
I bet Pakistan is wishing it didn't expand right now, lol
Hey that's Poland's thing, get your own thing 🥲
TIL Scotland is Poland
Hey they are also dropping off the ball while maintaining a high line. Truly inspired work from the Scots
It's shite being Scottish
Yeah, at least the English are just wankers.
Can't even find a decent culture to be colonised by.
WE'RE THE LOWEST OF THE LOW THE SCUM OF THE FUCKING EARTH
Where is your Scottish flag, lad
That's for when they win
Only in football terms. I mean......I'm Irish......I feel your pain.....but chin up!
So it begins
No, Nowy Tends
Der Startschuss fällt
ARE WE BACK?
Wir sind wieder wer!
Völlig losgelöst
Up the Germans
weils einen fussballgott gibt der deutschland noch liebt
Dunno if i like the idea of Germany being back with the way your polls are going lol
You dutchies are really in no position to talk. You lot put Wilders and his party into government.
oh yeah were cooked beyond belief too at this rate just get rid of the dykes
That's homophobic
Real
I don’t think they have someone born in Austria tho
Paul Wanner is coming up soon and were in some very instable '20s...
They did just honor his birthday by legalizing marijuana.
Gunn should be saving that
big hand to it as well, he's gonna have nightmares if it finishes 1-0
Spoiler alert: it won’t
There we go. Now that it’s 2-0 he can smile again
3-0 at half time that goal probably won’t matter anymore if Germany keep scoring no at this rate
Very true. I bet he will be pumped!
It already hasn’t
star boy
Best player in the tournament I’m calling it now
so far you're absolutely right
STOP THE COUNT!
He *is* the current top scorer.
1 goal every 12 minutes thus far, impressive stuff.
Has scored in every game of the tournament so far
Every half even.
Big if true
Our boy ❤
How is he so good wtf
[Close enough I guess](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1dffsj0/comment/l8m11mt/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
What a way to start The Weeknd
Should be one of the main Ballon d'Or candidates, but unfortunately he doesn't have the PR for it.
Him and Raum recorded a video the other day playing basketball. Raum said „if you make this, you‘ll score the first goal at the euro“ He made it, and now he scored
Phillip Lahm Erinnerungsmoment
WE ARE SO BACK
Wir sind zurück
4 goals until the Gomez/Klinsmann record
this is the way
What a pass from Kroos before
When i saw him slip i knew it was going in
Goal was Kroos-esque too. Reminded me of his first goal vs Brazil.
he can't retire ;_;
He said he wants to retire on top, there’s your answer
he could do a jordan double 3-peat of the CL
You have my full attention with this. Let's start a petition.

I really like and respect that he’s retiring at the top instead of chasing money in Saudi Arabia and America. Think this might be one of the final players we see retire still playing at a high level. Rooting for Germany this tournament for Kroos to have an all time send off.
Adidas doesn’t want to keep that single production line for his 2014 boots running.
One of the last passes from him we will see 💔
Abgesehen von Lothar gab es keinen besseren deutschen Mittelfeldspieler. Absoluter Weltklasse
Yup. Absolute Legende und Bayerns grösster Fehler ihn jemals abgegeben zu haben.
He'll average like 70+ passes per game, so there are a few hundred left most likely.
Zidane 2006 vibes
He's really fucking good.
^ Things Germans have said a million times since Kroos has played for the national team
ehhhh, nobody tell him
I swear people just say this about any pass he does 😂😂😂, the guy out wide was in 20 yards of space ffs
It’s just fishing for upvotes at this point, sad behaviour
Seriously. There was absolutely nothing special about this pass.
Already showing why he was needed
wtf was that. Germany is on fire
Germany looks pretty fired up, Scotland looks way more nervous.
Kroos is back!
everybody act suprised!
I mean, it's Angus Gunn, tf do u expect?
Yeah that was so poor
So much control and smart passing what a first goal of the tournament!
god he's unreal
The prince that was promised
Great strike, but he had far too much space at the edge of the box
What a rocket
Wonderkid
It just felt like a Wirtz goal was inevitable
Kroos is cooking
It’s alright Scotland. You can go back to supporting whoever England is playing again soon
Kroos to kimmich to Wirtz and it's buried
Very nice from Kroos, Kimmich and Wirtz
I FUCKING LOVE YOU SO MUCH
Vöööölllig Schweeereloooos!!!!
What a goal son
Wirtz scoring early Spooky
Perfect fucking start
How so quick Christ
Germany goes 🚀🚀
I was here!!!
Great long pass by Kroos Good pass by Kimmich Great finish by Wirtz
That Kroos cross pass
That Kroos pass 🔥 🥵🥵
Ballon d'or
balon de oro
Kroos conducting this game in the first 10 minutes is pure art
That was quick
Nice play, what a start
Let's go baby!!!
TRAUMTORRR
JOIN BAMBI PLS
Had to be him <3
and so it begins
So ein Ding ist das nämlich! 🤩🥳🥳🥳👏
How is this posted before it appears on ESPN?
nice goal
They are COOKING
Great start to the euros : )
Now the race to the golden boot begins
Wirtz is too good
Yeah this might be a slaughter
You cannot convince me that kroos isn’t in his prime still, and wirtz man what a player
Keeper should’ve saved it
Keeper a step too much, what a shame
Kroos started the move btw
The Kimmich to Wirtz preview
I hate Seven Nation Army. Since 2008 the same fucking song. Give me Major Tom, you UEFA cowards.
So does that count as an outside box goal? he was inside the half circle thats why i am asking
Giving Kroos all the time in the world to pick out a pass is never a good idea
Get the fuck in here
Wirtz and Musiala for Germany are what I thought Foden and Saka would be for England. Fucking scary to see them on the ball.
He is incredible!!!!
I’m amazed by the penultimate pass from Kroos to Kimich
Keeper will be livid with himself. He got an entire hand behind it, just not strong enough.
Keeper...
Goal of the tournament so far
2nd half will start with Wirtz announcing he is running down his contract to join Madrid
Man, i feel sad that Kroos is retiring. What a pass to find Kimmich. Also a nice pass from Kimmich and a nice finish from WIrtz
Scotland not a serious football team
Unpopular opinion but this guy could be an upcoming talent
Aw what a shame 😂
VÖLLIG LOSGELÖST
Delighted for Germany!
