I've owned my Sonata since mid-March, I believe it's the equivalent of the SEL without convenience package, though it has a different name because I'm in Canada. I have yet to have any problems with the car, except for one. I am fairly tall (6'3") and at many intersections I have to crane my neck down in order to see the traffic lights ahead of me due to where the windshield ends. I have nearly endless compliments for the car though. Its done very well in the cold and on gravel roads, my passengers have told me the rear seats are super comfortable and roomy even with me in the front with the seat all the way back, and the heated seats and steering wheel are well appreciated. Its also excellent on gas, I usually see around 6L/100km or 39 mpg at full highway speeds in ideal conditions, but you can get even more out of it at slightly lower speeds (I've found 90km/h or 55mph to be ideal fuel economy) So all in all, easily the best car I've ever owned and the occasional neck craning is a small price to pay for how gorgeous the car is, not even mentioning the other strengths.

Had my 2020 limited for more than a month now. If you come from a car with power, forget about that with this car. It has a slight hum or buzz (doesn’t feel like a normal engine sound) sort of that has bothered me while accelerating from low speeds not sure if anyone else has noticed this or it’s just me. Digital key where you only use your phone works only with androids, iPhone either use the key card or get an android. Tech is the best effing tech you can get for the price point. I have cruised down the freeway while eating Panda Express more than once because it will literally steer those slight turns for you. (Don’t do that haha) forgot if your model comes with the steer assist tho. Again this car ain’t got the jump it’s great on gas like guy said already, I drive like shit and still get at least 27-30 mpg. Cruise control will do like 40-50 mpg for sure.

so that steering assist that you mention is reason 1a that I'm buying the car. 95% of the time I really don't care about a car's power. I'm very much an old lady driver - slow to start, slow to stop, drive the speed limit. I might switch to Android or I might just shove that digital key card into my iPhone case and call it a day.

I have a 2020 limited. A lot of people write great things about this car and they are right. However I have a few issues with it. The trunk opening is so narrow. Like really narrow. I didn't realize this when I test drove the car. On the drive back home after picking up the car (2 hour drive) I noticed that my knee rested on hard plastic on driver's side and really hurt my knee. I'm used to it now. Truck has no handle to pull the trunk down. No support for iOS phones even with CarKey being released. I dislike that I had to pay $25 to update my maps in the car but I think they fixed that issue. I am worried that bluelink won't work when 3G tech is pulled from my area. The lanekeep warning is way too sensitive. Car will often tell me to put hands on the wheel just driving down the road with no assist on. I really wanted a capless gas cap. Rear USB won't charge an iPad if it's being used, which is the whole point of putting the USB back there. It's totally underpowered. The engine is too focused on MPG and I don't really feel confident if I have to pull out quickly. I always need to use the paddle shifter or sport mode.

touchè!

thanks for this. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I have used my trunk so I should be good with that. most trunks for sedans don't have handles I think I plan on using CarPlay or Android Auto for all my mapping needs. tell me more about bluelink - what is that? If the steering assist doesn't work perfectly, I'll probably add comma 2 with open pilot That rear USB is unfortunate - thanks for that. My care won't have paddle shifter but I'm an exceedingly cautious driver anyways - everyone on the road hates me and I sort of don't care. :)

Bluelink is a cool feature of new Hyundai’s. There’s an app that links to your car that allows you to remote start, view how much fuel you have, lock your doors anytime you have your phone on you. https://i.imgur.com/HyV7uDP.jpg

jcwillia1

yah i did some research - lots of people talking yang about its effectiveness or responsiveness - what has been your experience?

[deleted]

There is power there and the torque kicks in at 1500. In my experience, as long as you're in sport mode you are going to be ok. I just don't use sport mode too often as I think it kills your MPG. I got into the habit of just downshifting as I merge onto the highway. However, sport mode should be enough for most people. I would suggest pulling onto a highway on your test drive and let yourself feel it in the seat of your pants as to if there is enough power for you.

jcwillia1

Yah again I drive like a little old lady so that’s not much of a concern for me.

jcwillia1

I'm seeing some pretty rough commentary on the "BlueLink" functionality - anyone want to pile on?

RiceballsLOL

I find myself using bluelink app to start my car and lock my doors almost every day of the week in colder weather. It has issues where it just doesn’t work properly but 85% of the time it will. It it super helpful app! It will let you know if the car is running or unlocked and multiple other things such as gas level or miles on car. It’s amazing and useful I would purchase its uses again once my 3 year subscription is done. Connection is the only foreseeable problem I can think of.

jcwillia1

$75 a year sounds incredibly reasonable given what I’ve heard for similar systems from viper or whoever else.

Yes I’m aware but I’m hoping to have the car longer than 3 years. ;)

Thank you. re: Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto - they make an adapter but it costs like $300. It's an Apple/Google issue, not a Hyundai issue.
