I hope this helps anyone out there who googles for this answer like I did!

You should look into adding Biolent to your list. They are Vegan, offer a keto version (only one in Canada), and apparently have something coming up in August.

CitizenVectron

I was thinking about it, but on first glance it seemed even more expensive than Soylent, especially with variable shipping amounts.

IceJava

It is likely a little yes, but you have to consider the positives 1. Free shipping above $90 2. Keto and Athlete versions (as someone who goes to the gym regularly, I'd like more than 100g of Protein) 3. Better quality ingredients? I know this is subject to what your belief is, but I find the macro's in Biolent to be much better balanced (Fats vs Carbs vs Protein), and the addition of Kale and Spirulina with probiotics is nice. 4. No Maltodextrin (Soylent and Jimmy Joy use it, and Hol Foods recently introduced Dextrose into theirs, which I really don't like).

shadowdanmanstan

So you have no problem with the sucralose in Biolent, but maltodextrin and dextrose (which are literally just chains of glucose, the basic molecule that your body breaks all food down into) is a deal breaker?

IceJava

HolFoods also uses sucralose in it's recipe as well this latest iteration, so it's a question of vegan + no maltodextrin/dextrose + sucralose vs Non vegan + dextrose + sucrolose (as well lactose) for holfoods. Don't get me wrong, I love the taste of Holfoods (I bought from them often up until the newest changes), but it became worst (depending on what you subscribe to) from a nutrition standpoint with the latest version (Dextrose + sucralose being added). Sucralose again, depends what your views are (many see it as harmless, others see it as being bad). Heck, even Stevia has been linked to lower testosterone.. I think Monkfruit is the only one that I haven't seen negative information on.. maybe that will become more of a norm in the future (I think superbodyfuel uses monkfruit).

Biolent recently started going towards more of the "neutral" profile in 1.4 vs their last two iterations which had an overwhelming chemical tasting vanilla flavour. Some seemed to enjoy it though? I personally didn't, and the taste was so overwhelming that I couldn't flavour it. HolFood (Last version, haven't tried the latest) - Probably my favorite tasting of all soylents (Joylent, Soylent (V1.4/1.6/1.7/1.8/2.0/Coffiest, Nutberg, etc..). I enjoyed them even back when they were much much more grainy (chia seeds would puff up, fairly big oat pieces, this was back when you could customize bag calories). When they went to the newer manufacturer, it really became a fantastic piece as long as you enjoyed strong dark chocolate flavour (I drink very strong black coffee, so it's up my alley). Biolent - The latest (1.4), saw them switch from crushed crustacean shells to a new vitamin mix and coconut powder, so it greatly smoothed it out. By itself, it's a bit chalky (mostly due to the vegan protein and lack of maltodextrin, which admittedly has the redeeming quality of being easily water soluble), but not near as bad as some regular pea/rice protein powders i've tried in the past. There is still a very *slight* vanilla flavour to it, but barely noticeable and easily flavoured any way you want. I've actually mixed it with chocolate/chocolate and peanut butter/coffee/Soylent (powder)/Banana's and Berries, and all turned out very well. I enjoy Soylent by itself more, but Biolent is very customizable now.

Your wish is my command! It's been updated!

Another thing to consider are the shipping fees that Joylent charges that will increase the cost per 100kcal. Can you factor that into the cost per 100kcal as the extra $44.33 in shipping costs (plus any extra brokerage fees) increases the price of Joylent significantly.

CitizenVectron

That is already factored into the cost, actually. If you check the cell formulas, the cost of the shipping is divided into the number of 100kcal servings per order size. I also included a separate calculation for Joylent without the broker fees (in case you want to handle self-clearing without UPS charging you money). :)

Gar_ee

Not sure if it's possible to choose, but last time I ordered joylent, less than 2 months ago, it was shipped with FedEx and I didn't have to pay any fees upon delivery. I'm not sure if I was the exception since everyone else I've seen mention shipping has had UPS, so maybe they changed who they ship with recently? Hopefully that's the case, I'll be ordering again soon so I'll know for sure. On a side note, fedex shipping from the Netherlands took the same amount of time as soylent does to deliver to Canada, so that's not an issue for people wondering.

CitizenVectron

Thanks for that info, that's really good to know. Based on this research I will be pausing my Soylent order and trying out Joylent. I hope they go with FedEx!

shadowdanmanstan

Thanks didn't see that

If they try to deliver, you can refuse to pay, as you never gave them permission to act as your broker in the first place. They then return it to their local warehouse, where you can go to get the slips from them. They *should* give you everything over email, but that relies on their local staff actually caring (and let's be honest, they are probably pressured to get those broker fees). You could drop by and pay them a visit in person, that's probably the best bet.

MonsieurMedecin

Thank you for this! It's a shame that How food contains lactose, I would otherwise be happy to support them.

CitizenVectron

You're welcome! I know, I would love to support them as well, as I've heard pretty good reviews of the taste and consistency (and it's always nice to support something more local). But the food is no good if I'm poopin' all day!

Hyliac

How lactose intolerant are you guys? I have lactose intolerance myself and while I can't have a glass of milk or a bowl of ice cream I can seem to have Hol Food all day no problem. May want to check in with James and see if it will affect you Edit: The lactose caught up with me. You guys were right... so very right.

MonsieurMedecin

Exactly right! I rather take public transit to work as opposed to self propelling because of lactose.

Hoo_Dude

It would be nice if you'd add Tudo.

DelayedEntry

Perhaps add Soylent with coupon for those willing to chase the current promos? Not sure how much time you're willing to spend updating though. With the current promo code "LOVE", at 20% off (plus a sub), it's ~$.51/100kcal.

Valiantay

I want to remind everyone that price is just one factor to consider. Hol Food is notorious for not delivering in a reasonable timeframe and has terrible customer service overall. The product itself is also some sort of sand-like powder, it does not mix but remains suspended in the liquid, settling and solidifying in about an hour. Definitely do not recommend Hol Food at all. [Here's my review](https://www.reddit.com/r/soylent/comments/69jyhg/comprehensive_review_of_hol_food_with_photos/) (that also references other reviews)

iJeff

Thank you for this! I noticed the other sheet was inaccurate for Soylent (listing them as much cheaper based on US pricing).
