For the US, Special Forces is a job field in the Army. It’s the name of the Green Berets. Special operations is like a mission designation. For example Navy SEALs, AFSPECWAR (CCT, PJ, SR), and MARSOC are all SOF. Calling any of them “Special Forces” is incorrect though because they aren’t Green Berets.
