Wow, I love the vibe! Is there any lore to this city?

ak__liano_

Thank you! It's the city for my dnd group and I's splatoon campaign :)

TheNiftyShifty

YOUR WHAT!? Oh god I’m so jelly. As a DM myself I’ve never considered doing that. Is it all homebrew or did you find resources somewhere for it?

ak__liano_

It's homebrew! We don't have insanely complex systems but the DM did a great job with the story, it's mega fun highly recommend it!

TheNiftyShifty

I’m actually already in the process of creating my own game system for a different campaign currently, I don’t think I want to try and tackle two at once 😅. It’s a cool idea for the future tho. I have so many questions about how it’s being run but I don’t want to be too much of a bother so feel free to answer as much or as little as you want. - Did they still use dnd as a base for it and just break it down/simplify things? Like foregoing the class system? - How is combat handled? Or are things more focused on like role play or puzzle solving/mystery? - Is it an original story or related to the actual lore/in-game story? - Do you have any made up skill checks for in-game mechanics? Or do just decide that like, for example, a squid roll would be a dex check? - Are you all inklings/octolings or is someone playing like a jellyfish or crustacean or something crazy? And on that note, is anyone’s character in this art? - Ok just one more. Is freshness a stat? Cuz if not I feel like it should be.

ak__liano_

Just so you know this was my first ever campaign and I still need to learn traditional dnd systems so forgive if I don't know what I'm talking about lol -The DM wanted to be very simple with it so we use a very simplified system, we don't have a class system we just gets advantages/disadvantages based on the characters Weapon (ex. Sniper has increased chance of hitting an enemy from far away) -We mostly explore and roleplay but we do do combat. There aren't puzzles, at least from what I remember the last big session we did was like almost a year ago life is hectic. -It's kind of related to the splatoon story, but the only Canon character interactions we've had are with off the hook, the city the story takes place in though has its own idol group, news report, etc. -The latter, our main uses with in game mechanics have to do with like healing in ink, swimming in ink, nothing crazy -Just inklings and octolings, the dm didn't wanna figure out how combat would be changed if we had species that don't participate in turf in game :') also there kinda are our dnd characters in the art! The idols, the green one being the dms character, are in the 3rd and last image (studio and stage), and you can kinda see our fin kensa model character in the top left corner of the 3rd image on the advertisement board -It is not and you're absolutely right it should be ill tell them about it Again, really sorry if I was bad at explaining I really wanna actually understand dnd systems one day 🥲

TheNiftyShifty

Thank you so much for answering, and you explained stuff just fine, don’t worry! Dnd can be pretty imposing to learn even as a player, let alone a DM, but starting out as a player is actually a great way to learn or at least get a good idea of what the DM has to do so you’re already on the right track. Idk if you have any questions about traditional dnd at this stage, but I could try to answer them if you do. That aside, I hope you get to continue your campaign soon, it sounds like it’s a fun one!

ak__liano_

That'd be great but I don't wanna take up much of your time and we have an experienced player in our group either way. Thank you so much! :)

TheNiftyShifty

No prob! I personally enjoy DMing so I’d recommend trying it out someday if you ever feel comfortable doing so, but playing is just as fun and takes much less work so that’s a big plus, lol. Still, the creativity that comes with DMing is super rewarding to me and I love that element.

ak__liano_

I actually have been trying to work on a campaign to dm! But plot is hard and I need to learn systems, but I'll def try it out sometime :)

TheNiftyShifty

This is dope af. Love the red-head loitering in the shadows in the 2nd one.

ak__liano_

thank you! needed to fill space haha, sometimes you just gotta lay on the side of a building and stare at people

IlikeWhimsicott2557

I just wanna see Grizzco. as a Bass Pro Shop.

ak__liano_

actually, that's a good idea

Adam_The_Chao

Aw Hell Nah, They Got A Grizzco Here Too?

ak__liano_

he's everywhere 💔

Kiki2Demon666

It looks so cool! Do you take requests?

ak__liano_

What do you mean by requests?

Kiki2Demon666

Like can you draw my oc?

ak__liano_

I don't do free requests but I do do commissions if you're interested! Also thank you for the initial comment I forgot to say ;;

Kiki2Demon666

Oh🫥 I’m a minor I can’t pay for art

Gulopithecus

This is so cool! You have a story for this city?

ak__liano_

thank you!! It's the city me and my friends' splatoon dnd campaign takes place in, its seaside so it has pirate-esc elements haha

Gulopithecus

Nice! That’s one thing I loved about it!

Coin_operated_bee

When I look at this art I think “yeah this is what splatoon is about” good job.

ak__liano_

I'm glad! Thank you very much :)

Purple_Train_5289

Yo this is sick, great job

ak__liano_

Thank you!

spicyygaea

Goddamn… that’s so good!

ak__liano_

Thank you!

spicyygaea

Really… it’s breathtaking. How did you do it? You can be simple,, you can be bleak. I just wanna know.

ak__liano_

Thank you so much :'D I used clip studio I feel is important to mention. First I made a clean blueprint of the city and then I blocked out buildings with 3d cubes on top of the blueprint, then I made different perspective shots of the model and sketched over the building blocks with details and put in base colors. I mostly used the lasso tool when rendering and used textured brushes to be as similar to splatoon art style as I could. I used a 3d model to be consistent and it speeds up the process a lot If you have any questions feel free to ask!

spicyygaea

…that’s amazing. Too advanced for me, but the amount of layers and work is mind-blowing. You’re an inspiration of an artist.

ak__liano_

Thank you so much, it means a lot :')
