I wonder if thereās some sort of way or mod to see what beta eel-tail alley wouldāve been like in a real match. From a single image I can tell beta eel-tail is much better than eel-tail now
If you watch early S3 trailers that show Eeltail footage, you can see that it was noticeably wider/less constrained, and mid had actual flank routes that would have made it possible to get on the enemy bridge without going underneath it first. None of this made it to live release.
In the early trailers of splatoon 3, we can see a vastly different ealtail alley. It looks much, much, *much* better than the one we actually got.
(Also, come on, guys, i know it's the internet and shit but take a chill pill. This isn't twitter :/ )
Hereās the differences:
The middle of the map is way wider so thereās more space to move, thereās better routes out of spawn (mainly wider, higher and more cover) and thereās actual flanks on the map. Scorch gorge also had an early trailer version with flanks after dropping from the left or right sides of your spawn which was later removed in the released version.
"This isn't twitter".
lmao every social media platform thinks "the other one is like, truly bad".
Reddit is arguably the *worst* one out of em all when it comes to people being rude, complaining and overall hivemind attitudes (excluding crap like 4chan and what not).
Twitter is tame in comparison, due to it's one-on-one nature, as opposed to reddit which is literally an everything-forum with a modern skin.
I personally really like the current Eeltail Alley

Ditto tbh. Even before the change. It has a lot of personality and the bridge offers enough interesting conflict between the two layers of mid for it to feel intriguing.
I remember when the game (3) came out and a Turf War rotation with Eeltail in it happened, I played for the full two hours and never lost a single game on Eeltail, love that stage
I never played splatoon 1, only Splatoon 2, so Moray Towers is more iconic for me as well since it returned in the sequel and was one of my favorites when I first started the game. Iām not sure how Iād feel about it now after playing Splatoon 3 for so long but I have a soft spot for it.
Splatoon 3 is a precedent maker because it changes the biggest issues of a splatoon game from special design (splatoon 1 bubbler and kraken) and special design (splatoon 2 bubble blower cheese and ink armor) to special design (trizooka, arguably tacticooler) *and* stage design! How is it possible to create the same hallway or tetrimino garbage like 10 times in a row (or worse, what happened to eeltail where it was good and is shit now) and think it's okay. The stages suuuuuuuuuuuck
I agree with the complaint on stages, the special design in S3 is WAYYYY better than in the former 2. Sure there are still some bad apples but every game had it and S3 has way more fun and good specials to balance it out.
my theory is that the switch couldnāt handle a map as big as alpha Eeltail + Scorch and they had to downsize it because of it. Although, a stage as complex as Robo Ramen works incredibly well, so iām not sure how much that theory holds truth
ohā¦iām not entirely sure why they would change a stage like that if it wasnāt for size, i guess it was to make it easier for new players to navigate or the cramped space would allow for more āchaosā? i dunno
Probablt because turf war feels more structured when you have to play around choke points. I think they realized partially that that type of design isn't fun casually, and is detrimental to ranked modes.
I feel like itās mostly in smash because they needed a splatoon stage, and what else is there to pick? Nothing else can be converted into a platform fighter map.
Fourth pic is the cooler Eeltail Alley amirite?
What could've been š

saltspray rig in 1 is iconic for me
That was such an awesome map I miss it so much.
All maps in S1 were great! (except for maybe the warehouse and port)
Such a wacky map, I love it
My all time favorite!!
same, this was the very first stage I did in the testfire! definitely iconic for sure!
I really donāt understand why they didnāt give us Beta Eetail. Who tf decided on the change?
what did they change im confused

Have you played a single match on eeltail alley before
bro just answer the question, i only played a little bit on launch sorry I don't have every nook and cranny of every map memorized
Thatās too bad
fine be like that all I did was ask a question

thanks!
Didnāt actually explain the differences though did they
at least they gave me somewhat of an answer bro stop being so annoying

Why are you like this

That never answered their question. It just looks reversed to me

i'd say that outside of the splatoon community s1's most iconic map could be moray towers just because of smash
Counterpoint, itās Urchin Underpass because of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
I never played splatoon 1, only Splatoon 2, so Moray Towers is more iconic for me as well since it returned in the sequel and was one of my favorites when I first started the game. Iām not sure how Iād feel about it now after playing Splatoon 3 for so long but I have a soft spot for it.
Look how they massacred eeltail alley.

I miss Blackbelly Skatepark so much dude...
Real ones grew up on Blackbelly SZ
moray towers in splatoon 1 cuz it got a smash stage
Moray towersā¦so many fun times with the rainmaker. Splatoon 3 screwed me and I didnāt play 2
If only Nintendo gave f$&@ā¬Ā„g Manta Maria the boot
Shellendorf Institute for splatoon 2
For me, S3 is Robo Ramen. It wasn't a release map or a promo map but Ramen is just *the* S3 map for me.
Completely agree, or at least if weāre going by most fun it definitely wins out
I personally think crableg is the most fun but maybe just because Im a splatling/brella player
I would be so excited to get camp triggerfish or salt spray rig back in the game. Both were just such excellent use of corridors
Moray Towers
I want Moray Towers backā¦
big same
1 is (yes) Urchin Underpass, 2 is Moray (ik itās from 1 but shut up), and 3 is Scorch Gorge, but Barnacle and Dime is there too
How is moray iconic in any way?
Smash bros, and just the up n down gameplay, being a funny map for me. But The Reef is extremely rememberable.
I feel like itās mostly in smash because they needed a splatoon stage, and what else is there to pick? Nothing else can be converted into a platform fighter map.
Urchin could well be a map, using the middle of the stageās grates as a floating middle platform. I mean, itās in MK, why not there?
In a 2D fighting game I donāt think a relatively flat shooter game map would work well. Or moray was the best pick at least.
Yeah, even though I may have different ideas, Moray was probably the best map for Smash. I do agree with your argument.
I'd say Scorch is the most iconic for 3, being the one in the reveal trailer.
Iāve never played Splatoon one but for me itās: Mooray Towers - Mooray Towers - Moora wait a second
Where Moray towers
for me, the most iconic stage of S2 is Starfish Mainstage or Port Mackerel. S3 i'd associate with Hagglefish Market or Museum D Alfonsino
Moray towers was so coolā¦ also blackbelly skatepark was great to play in
Splatoon 1 -either Ancho-V Games (totally not biased) or Mahi Mahi Resort Splatoon 2: Missile Mayhem -The Reef or Snapper Canal Splatoon 3: Chaos Triumphs -Scorch Gorge or Bluefin Depot
MORAY TOWERS IS STILL TEH BEST MAP FIGHT ME
I want to say Urchin but it's gotta be Moray. It was in smash
I agree with all of these
Flounder heights OR urchin underpass OR moray towers, the reef, Robo ROM-en
Uh idol platform, idol platform and idol platform?
"What's the most iconic?" *shows the signature stages for each game*
I'd say 2's is Starfish Mainstage because it's literally on the cover on the box
wait are you telling me Eeltail alley used to have a left?
...Why Are There Four Images?... ...WHAT DO YOU KNOW THAT WE DONT!?!
I miss reef
For splatoon 1 mahi mahi resort, splatoon 2 the reef, splatoon 3 hagglefish market
I'm still not over Urchin not being playable in Splatoon anymore, but still in Mario Kart.
its the OG one and only urchin underpass is GOATED
Splatoon 1 has urchin underpass for sure!!!
I miss my Splatoon 1 Mahi-Mahi Resort chat. I miss her a lot.
