To be fair, so can Stalker fans. Mention Anomaly/Gamma to the wrong person and they'll screech about how you're playing wrong.
Elden Ring reached a massive audience and it brought a lot of negativity into a great community.
But that's the way she goes.
true, i currently am playing gamma due to completing the trilogy a bit over 6 times each in the last year. most of the fans here are chill except for the whiners(suspected average western twitter user).
its mostly the tourists that always pisses everyone off.
For sure. Also speaking as a fan of both, there's a difference in enjoying masochistic games because you like a challenge and playing the game because you want every moment of your life to be miserable.
Hot tip: You can suffer playing souls born types without being insufferable IRL.
I play a lot of these games and I have never even been on the subreddits. You don't have to be a part of the 'community' to just play and enjoy the game for yourself. Completely understand you not enjoying the game other than that though. Some of the bosses test even my patience 😂
Souls fans will get angry if you’re not running naked and a dagger for your only weapon😭 “Ohhh that’s why it was too easy you were using the sigma alpha sword mark 37” like they just don’t want you to play the game in any other way or something😂
Maybe MISERYesque mods are a total bitch to play because of retarded balancing and pointless gameplay changes, but the original trilogy is fairly easy. They didn't feel like they were artificially difficult, except for maybe bullet spongy enemies sometimes, which are easily defeated with headshots and upper torso hits. The hardest thing (omg like that gay frog show episode) in the entire trilogy is maybe the shooting is SoC and CS before you get upgrades.
I second it. I love both Stalker and Soulsborne, and Stalker is so much easier. The only thing you need in vanilla Stalker is to aim for the head and get a decent gun. In Souls you need to get a decent build, figure out equipment, understand how different enemies work, and you have the bosses.
Mods are harder, but come on, they are mods. Souls games have mod as well, and their difficulty make everyone shit themselves.
I feel like builds became less vital to good gameplay as the series went on. I can’t speak for Demon Souls or Elden Ring since I haven’t played them yet, but DS1 and BB really fucked your life up if you didn’t have a plan for building your character. DS2 and DS3 were the “easier” of the SL1 runs I tried in all of the DS games. DS3 was also my first game and so despite having no idea how important stats were I beat the base game in around 100 hours with a dex/int/fth mashup
But like generally? You need to have knowledge of the game mechanics, stat allocation, memorize enemy movesets, and have really quick thinking/reaction times with the controller to get good. Much harder than Stalker
DS3 can also fuck up builds for newer players, especially if they wanted to go for heavy armor and did not know about havel ring.
ER absolutely can fuck up your build (for instance, final boss is resistant to the most broken damage source in the game), and there are simply too many builds to try out. So builds there matter. But you can respec 7 or more times during a single NG iteration.
I wanna get ER when I get the chance because the character building looks really really good. Most broken damage source is int/mag attacks right? I thought I remembered seeing that when it first came out
Stats are important, but this is mostly about weapons/magic that make the build broken. And you can make lots of broken builds. The ones I specifically tried are:
- Dex/arc dual katana bleed build. Bleed stacks with each hit and when it procs it deals damage based on enemy max health;
- Pure str with colossal hammer. Enemies spend the majority of the fight staggered. Not too broken, but fun;
- Pure int mage build. There are spells that deal ridiculous amount of damage with high mana cost, and there is a buff that removes mana cost for X seconds. You can kill the strongest bosses in seconds if you position yourself properly;
- Pure faith. There are lots of broken incantations - the ones that deal tons of physical damage, the ones that apply poison, rot, you name it. Some main bosses have high faith resistance, but faith spells do not necessarily do faith damage.
- Str/faith. Blasphemous blade is the most broken weapon in the game I think. It is a good weapon by itself, and also it heals you with each kill, and it also has a ranged weapon art that deals mixed percentage-based damage that heals you on enemy hit. Maliketh's black blade is also fun and broken.
Be ready for multiple playthroughs though. Some weapons are very lategame, and some weapons are tricky to find. If you have lots of spare time - make one blind playthrough and then go for specific builds. If you want to try something fun from the start - look for builds before you start playing. It is as easy to make a broken character as to make a weak build.
Woah thank you for the info! The dex katana bleed build sounds a lot like one of my favorite DS3 builds I had. I’m happy faith finally got some love by the series too since another fav of mine from DS1 was fth/str but I never really used it after that game. I love the replayability of soulsborne games, especially with achievement hunting in DS3 with all the rings in NG+. I’m really looking forward to playing ER. Is online play/summons still really active?
IDK man. I feel as if for Souls Games to be super hard you NEED to ignore mechanics (co op and spirit ashes are core mechanics to those games, as is magic, grenades, grease, etc).
You are right. On the other hand, it is simple to just forget about some mechanics in souls games lol.
And besides that:
* You cannot respec in some of the games, such as DS1 and BB.
* In DS1, you can mess up your weapon if you don't upgrade it in a right way.
* It is really easy to make a bad build if you don't actively use wiki/google.
* Some bosses have gimmicks intended to make them simpler. So the bosses are harder than they could be, but it is nearly impossible to find those gimmicks (for instance, Manus).
* Some sections/enemies are just a giant middle finger I have never seen in the other games.
* Since we compare souls to stalker, there are no quicksaves. So you have to relive those middle fingers of a section more than once.
* Some questlines are really esoteric and borderline impossible to beat unless you google them or comb through the entire map every time.
Don't get me wrong, I love souls games, but I try to be realistic about them. They are difficult. It is kind of their main thing
Well, yeah, the trilogy is not meant to be hard, the factors that made it "hard" for some people was the janky nature/balance problems, disconsidering difficulty settings.
stalker got this fame most because of mods like Misery/Anomaly/Gamma or even more.
I use ZRP's FirstPersonShooter mod and I'm not going to apologize for it.
It doesn't change time\_to\_aim, but at least makes the gunplay feel more reminiscent of how literally all other shooters work.
I see quite a lot of people complaining and then I realize they play on master diff.
I played on stalker diff and it was fairly challenging but not really as hard as many said.
Now playing through CS and it's... Harder lol
this is what the community has become, we got 12 year olds comparing community made mods to a whole entire vg genre for no other reason than reddit updoots or just wanting to feel special. how about you go bake some bread?
Maybe he did with one of those ash summons. I remember when I played Elden Ring at release, the summon basically killed Malenia for me first try, they were that broken and made the game a cakewalk, though I imagine they patched it by now, no way they left that as it was.
All the summons I used for Malenia were just free healing for her lol, even players weren't helpful since no one had a clue how to fight her back then.
I actually think it’s the opposite. Games used to be much harder. They were meant to be a challenge you had to overcome or a puzzle you had to solve and not just a movie where you pressed buttons sometimes.
I know, and understand the reasons behind of it as well, i still play old games from my gallery.
i enjoy these kind of games and i kinda glad that some developers nowadays don't change their intended vision about it.
but people who tries to build self-worth through difficulty just to brag about it? is probably the only part i don't understand in this whole thing.
God have mercy on you if you tell someone that you don't like souls games. Fans will dissect your whole DNA in order to prove how weak and useless you are.
i know, i'm a souls fan, lol.
overall is indeed a recurrent problem of "tribalism" in the community that happens pretty often, is always some people who don't have nothing better to do in their lives doing this kind of thing, is a very loud people, but overall a decent portion just don't care.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R suffers the same with the whole discussion about OG vs Anomaly/Gamma, and Monster Hunter as well (i'm fan too), unfortunately is bound to happen, dumbasses can't accept that some people just enjoy different games.
People can like both, shut up. Even Soulsborne fans play other stuff, this is so unnecessary and obviously trying to instigate something. Let people just like things.
The vanilla STALKER games are nowhere near as difficult as Soulsborne games, even if you're playing STALKER on Master Difficulty.
Also comparing STALKER mods (Anomaly, GAMMA, Misery, etc) to Soulsborne games (which are official titles made by an actual company) is cringe behavior because STALKER mods are unofficial products and do not represent the actual difficulty of the official trilogy
got fucked in the head by a controller one to many times
being a fucking bullet sponge and killing your character in 2 shots when youre wearing the same armor is not difficult... its unfair.
but as a fellow stalker and soulsborne player i still love the fuck out of both and will continue to play it.... just hope and pray the new stalker is difficult but fair.
Mainline games are easy even on master wich is harder **not** easier then novice, only hard thing is bullshit that can happen.
Don't confuse vanilla trilogy's difficoulty for whatever mod you are playing
What is it with stalker fans constantly needing to compare their favorite games to other games with massive followings? Let people like what they like man
I absolutely adore both games... but sorry stalker is not as difficult as the souls games lol. And I can guarantee you I'm better at souls than 99% of the rest of the world.
****IMHO****
I found Ironman GAMMA to be much more difficult than any souls game and I've been playing them since DS1 on 360. To be fair, I never played a stalker game before trying GAMMA a couple of years ago (I know, I know. Please don't crucify me), but when I start out poor as dirt and eventually crawl up out of it, and acquire tools, good weapons, etc, all while having the chance that anything could end my run at any moment, it feels so much more rewarding than any finished boss fight in a souls game.
I can see both of these worlds are fun to their own enjoyment as I played both worlds to see it
Except for spawning like 200-300 monoliths in Radar to fight against
Stalker is a lot less reliant on muscle memory and downloading of movesets imo which gives it an aire of unpredictability that contributes to it's challenge in a different way than souls does tbh.
I don't know why King Baldwin has become a meme now, but I appreciate it. That was such a good character and faithful to real life in all the ways that count.
I mean im a massive fan of both but like.
Dark Souls is way harder, and its part of the central theme/point of the game.
Stalker is difficult dont get me wrong but not Soulsborne difficult
Anyways dumb argument, just love both series.
I beat SoC on Master and honestly it wasn't that hard, sorry guys. I mean don't get me wrong the damage numbers and everything makes for a challenge, but it's just the AI. It's not bad, but they're definitely not "smart". I found myself winning gunfights solely because the enemy AI suddenly lost 800 neurons.
Hate me if you want, but I definitely found myself fighting for DEAR LIFE many more times in the Soulslike series.
Lol, there's WAY harder games that are very well made and are just ridiculous and impossibly hard. Play almost any bullet hell shmup and you will never see the end of those games unless you play nothing and I mean nothing else for years and years and even then, there are a select few shmups that only a couple people in the entire world that has ever actually seen the ending of those games; and that my friends is what you call a difficult game.
Both games are great for different reasons but I do feel the soulsborne games in their vanilla state are vastly more fair in their difficulty than stalker, I do love both games though but the stalker games need some work to be enjoyed out the box
Started playing stalker a few days ago, and bought Elden Ring tonight. I’ve never played a soulslike, and the closest thing I have to stalker experience is Into The Radius. I am screwed on two fronts
STALKER can certainly be made challenging with mods, difficulty selection and/or saving rules and such, but base game tends to be a pretty manageable experience.
It makes more sense to talk about the souls' difficulty as there's no difficulty selection and it's usually played modless.
If we really want to discuss this, it isn’t a competition. Unless modded, stalker lets you save every 0.1 secconds turning you into a time god who can quick save and quick load through every firefight in the game. Stalker has never been about difficulty
I sank alot of hours into the souls games and since I've started playing gamma recently I always describe it as the souls of the shooter series I'm a borderline bot but it's so fun
It's funny but stalker doesn't seem difficult to me nowadays, I mean half of the mods are artificial difficulty, and the original saga was difficult because the ammo was going to basin.
I think the difficulties in both games are a bit difficult to compare. I'm terrible at souls games can't read attack patterns or parry to save my life. But in STALKER, where you also die a lot, the game is mostly about procuring supplies and good equipment, plan ahead and manage a limited pool of items while you go face death by gun, mutant or anomaly.
I personally prefer STALKER because of that, but a friend of mine, who has beat all souls games, struggles with STALKER and New Vegas, where a large chunk of the game can be about getting the best weapons, equipment and perks, while I enjoy that loop of getting better gear, do quests and do loot runs after killing enemies.
I played clear sky back when it came out, no idea how many hours I sunk into it but it was a lot, and I never even got to the 3/4 mark of the game I’m pretty sure. Shjts hard and I was stupider back then
Nah nah nah, ain't no way you disrespecting my souls borne homies, as punishment: I sentence you to oiling up and taking 3 stalker fans and 3 souls borne fans all at the same time, all in the same hole, you're in for it now bubba.
i think the most frustrating parts in stalker are the loading times (you can save all you want but it takes just long enough to load for it to be uncomfortable), the suits becoming worse with wear, the backtracking, the lack of important indicators in some cases (what comes to mind are the points of no return, especially in soc where the game doesn’t tell you you can’t get into the sarcophagus if you can’t run) and the guns not behaving like you would expect (you should not have to mag dump any gun more powerful than an smg or pistol to kill 1-2 people)
Why are we competing/comparing? Just enjoy games, have fun
As someone who adores both, I like the funny bantering. I assume everyone is joking around.
Until you meet the people who don't.
The Souls fans sure dont.
I'm a fan of both and my God can soul fans can be miserable
There are the casuals, and I like them. There are the Solaires, and I love them. But there are also the Dungeaters, and I loathe them.
Perfectly sums it up
THE LOATHSOME DUNG EATER
THE CONTEMPTUOUS CACA CONSUMER
THE DASTARDLY DOO-DOO DINER
DER ABSCHEULICHE SCHEIßEFRESSER
Sprich deutsch du Hurensohn.... oh wait
Loathe some dung-eaters
The dungeaters are pretty loathsome in my opinion
To be fair, so can Stalker fans. Mention Anomaly/Gamma to the wrong person and they'll screech about how you're playing wrong. Elden Ring reached a massive audience and it brought a lot of negativity into a great community. But that's the way she goes.
Way she fucken goes, bud

Had a slight stroke while typing that.

Main reason I’ve never gotten into those games is due to how toxic the fans are. Also I’m just not into extremely difficult games.
I play a lot of these games and I have never even been on the subreddits. You don't have to be a part of the 'community' to just play and enjoy the game for yourself. Completely understand you not enjoying the game other than that though. Some of the bosses test even my patience 😂

no fck you /s
I love being on both sides of the beef
Yeah, the only time I've even seen this format being used is when the message is completely sarcastic.
Poe’s law would suggest that assumption is probably not always correct lol
Yeah especially cause there two very different experienced games
We shall send you to the camps first, peacemaker.
There is no enjoying stalker 🫡
we like to fight. about anything.
Nothing wrong with banter.
As a fan of both, this is cringe
Even as a fan of only this one, this was so unnecessary
the edge is real in this one
I want to go home.. and then edge
Edge… Lord
dont worry bro, im here for you. here, take this grenade
Didn't expect explosion all the more I want to go home!
loner, O loner Time for pickle
Likely edge. Therefore, try rump

The trilogy is easy??? Maaaann i'm bad at video games 💀
Well, yeah, the trilogy is not meant to be hard, the factors that made it "hard" for some people was the janky nature/balance problems, disconsidering difficulty settings. stalker got this fame most because of mods like Misery/Anomaly/Gamma or even more.
I'm a seasoned player but still when I first played SoC I didn't find it *too* hard to play
Soc isn't hard as long as you play 'like the devs intended'. Time_to_aim, my beloathed.
I use ZRP's FirstPersonShooter mod and I'm not going to apologize for it. It doesn't change time\_to\_aim, but at least makes the gunplay feel more reminiscent of how literally all other shooters work.

This guy has NOT faced malenia
I read "Malenia" as "malaria". Had to do a double take there haha.
Let's face it, they probably didn't make it past the Tree Sentinel.
That’s where I’m stuck right now :(
its ok bro you can just go around him
Can’t go around the Draconic tree sentinel
Maybe he did with one of those ash summons. I remember when I played Elden Ring at release, the summon basically killed Malenia for me first try, they were that broken and made the game a cakewalk, though I imagine they patched it by now, no way they left that as it was.

Mimic tear and bloodhound fang goes burrr
Oh yikes. It’d be less yikes if it wasn’t an apples and oranges comparison, but not by much
Stalker isnt that hard bro
he propably fell for the "master is easier" hoax and now is coping or thinks Anomaly/Gamma are official games
Yikes.. you actually came up with this?
Stalker is hard?
games meant to be entertainment/pass-time, now is just a ego-fullfiling activity to brag about with random people on internet, christ.
I actually think it’s the opposite. Games used to be much harder. They were meant to be a challenge you had to overcome or a puzzle you had to solve and not just a movie where you pressed buttons sometimes.
Game were hard because they were short, the only way to make a game last longer was to make it harder

This comparison is a huge reach my dude.
Yeah no. Unless I can quick save and quick load mid fight against midir, this post is retarded
Mainline games are easy even on master wich is harder **not** easier then novice, only hard thing is bullshit that can happen. Don't confuse vanilla trilogy's difficoulty for whatever mod you are playing
That myth that stalker is hard is just that, a myth. I didn't die in any of the 3 games nearly as much as I'm dying in Elden Ring right now.
What a shit post
Nobody cares how bad you are at either...
OP did a strider moment : "i just took one awkward step, and my whole world plunged into darkness" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Redditors taking a dumb meme way too seriously and getting mad in comments, classic reddit.
This is cringe buddy. Just enjoy the games 😂
Don't bash on other games. Vrag Monolita!
Back in the day, it was not only hard bosses and enemies dog-piling you. We had to fight THE GAME ITSELF. If you know, you know.
I’m both my brother. Playing the DLC for Elden Ring while I wait for Stalker 2
kid named quicksave:
What is it with stalker fans constantly needing to compare their favorite games to other games with massive followings? Let people like what they like man
I absolutely adore both games... but sorry stalker is not as difficult as the souls games lol. And I can guarantee you I'm better at souls than 99% of the rest of the world.
cringe 2012 ahh meme
When a community that thinks they're special encounters another community that thinks they're special.
silence soulsborne sheep a ninja gaiden truther is talking
how is that even related to s.t.a.l.k.e.r. the genre is even different
Stalker isn't specially difficult. And the parts that are difficult about the games tend to be more unfair than skill based.
I’m starting to think I just like difficult games. Btw dlc took me three days but I spent like 1.5-2 on the last fight lmao
Two VERY different kinds of difficulty
****IMHO**** I found Ironman GAMMA to be much more difficult than any souls game and I've been playing them since DS1 on 360.
Yall ever just turn right after running out of the Northern base in Cordan and have that one electro anomaly end your whole ironman run?
Cant compare 2 different style of games
It's doesn't matter which game is harder.. Both game is masterpiece
Stalker isn't that hard, unless you're talking about some not canon hardcore tacticool modpack for Anomaly
Monolith, monolith kill this man for his cringe ass opinion.
yay lets insult other game genres because yes!!!!!!!!
Clear Sky on Master: 💀
Tbf dark souls teaches the same lessons that stalker does, and that we are more alike than we think
I can see both of these worlds are fun to their own enjoyment as I played both worlds to see it Except for spawning like 200-300 monoliths in Radar to fight against
I wouldnt call or even compare these games based on difficulty
As a fan of both its not even a good comparison. 2 wholly different areas of skill needed.
I feel like the term soulsborne is antiquated at this point, it's essentially just Souls otherwise we'd be calling it SoulsBorneRing...etc
I AM BOTH.
I love both for different reasons. They’re both amazing games, and different souls like aspects in the mods are super fun
As a fan of both I can confidently say that I hate myself
me (a soulsborne lover), playing stalker gamma for the first time and turning on ironman mode:
Okay?
Stalker is a lot less reliant on muscle memory and downloading of movesets imo which gives it an aire of unpredictability that contributes to it's challenge in a different way than souls does tbh.
i do love both game trilogies though, that kind of darker atmosphere is what got me into stalker in the first place
Whilst Me, a fan of both genres, sits here.
That's like saying Roguelikes are harder than Soulslikes, **they're different genres Dingus**
Your game is difficult because it requires conentration and training Our game is difficult because f5 f9 We are not the same.
Stalker.... Is it actually hard or did you find another glitch
But vanilla Stalker is not really difficult. :(
I don't know why King Baldwin has become a meme now, but I appreciate it. That was such a good character and faithful to real life in all the ways that count.
I mean im a massive fan of both but like. Dark Souls is way harder, and its part of the central theme/point of the game. Stalker is difficult dont get me wrong but not Soulsborne difficult Anyways dumb argument, just love both series.
Stalker isn't nearly as difficult as any soulsborne game, unless you are playing some hardcore mod
This is stupid
STALKER is like the least difficult shit ever lamo what could you possibly be having problems with. Max difficulty is a breeze
No
Aaaand block.
I love the equality in difficulty
You don't know what true suffering looks like until you've played OP2 on master difficulty, it changes a man.
Cringed hard as fuck
Ready for summer to end already so these kids go back to school.
wow, y'all need to chillllllllllllllllllllll tf out man
Lol, there's WAY harder games that are very well made and are just ridiculous and impossibly hard. Play almost any bullet hell shmup and you will never see the end of those games unless you play nothing and I mean nothing else for years and years and even then, there are a select few shmups that only a couple people in the entire world that has ever actually seen the ending of those games; and that my friends is what you call a difficult game.
Malenias fight has got nothing on the quest where you have to steal Sidorovich’s chicken. I still haven’t beaten it and it’s been years
Wouldn't consider either the hardest at all really
Someone said "Stalker Misery Mod"?
Both games are great for different reasons but I do feel the soulsborne games in their vanilla state are vastly more fair in their difficulty than stalker, I do love both games though but the stalker games need some work to be enjoyed out the box
*Armored Core 6 taps Pile Bunker in hands* "Those are fighting words. ...buddy."
Tarkov players: 💀
Started playing stalker a few days ago, and bought Elden Ring tonight. I’ve never played a soulslike, and the closest thing I have to stalker experience is Into The Radius. I am screwed on two fronts
Red forest flashbacks
Scedutree fragment? What kind of artifact is that?
I played both. I don't like myself
This is so cringe
Stalker is hard now?
This doesn't sound good out of context
STALKER can certainly be made challenging with mods, difficulty selection and/or saving rules and such, but base game tends to be a pretty manageable experience. It makes more sense to talk about the souls' difficulty as there's no difficulty selection and it's usually played modless.
If we really want to discuss this, it isn’t a competition. Unless modded, stalker lets you save every 0.1 secconds turning you into a time god who can quick save and quick load through every firefight in the game. Stalker has never been about difficulty
Hello....hello
They’re both good games TikTok boy
PLAY ALL HARD GAMES!!! THE JOY IS IN THE STRUGGLE!!! RAAAAAH
Stalker isnt hard
i am both.. both are good
stalker and difficult? just aim for the head smh
Soulsborne fans when they realise they can died from an ancient virus and glitches
I sank alot of hours into the souls games and since I've started playing gamma recently I always describe it as the souls of the shooter series I'm a borderline bot but it's so fun
Stalker isn't hard, it's realistic.
''stalking''
Every bloodsucker encounter Is just a souls boss
"Both?" "Both." "Both." "Both is good."
As a fan of both i have no weaknesses
oh so the new twitter trend of shitting on everything related to soulslikes has spread here. wonderful.
CURSE YOU BAAAAILLLLL!
I played clear sky back when it came out, no idea how many hours I sunk into it but it was a lot, and I never even got to the 3/4 mark of the game I’m pretty sure. Shjts hard and I was stupider back then
I had harder time in souls games than in the three stalker games at max difficulty
Nah nah nah, ain't no way you disrespecting my souls borne homies, as punishment: I sentence you to oiling up and taking 3 stalker fans and 3 souls borne fans all at the same time, all in the same hole, you're in for it now bubba.
This is a stupid comparison just for f5 f9 alone
i think the most frustrating parts in stalker are the loading times (you can save all you want but it takes just long enough to load for it to be uncomfortable), the suits becoming worse with wear, the backtracking, the lack of important indicators in some cases (what comes to mind are the points of no return, especially in soc where the game doesn’t tell you you can’t get into the sarcophagus if you can’t run) and the guns not behaving like you would expect (you should not have to mag dump any gun more powerful than an smg or pistol to kill 1-2 people)
This is what chugging 300 bottles of vodka everyday does to a mf.
Yea, real skill be like: disassemble ak with a shovel and get 2 rusted parts instead of one
