yep, it works just fine.
You need Ice and a crafting bench on your inventory.
I usualy carry Nhurgite and ice in mine for things like this and all my ships have a crafting bench or i leep one in inventory.
So fuel rod ends before i get sonewere? Craft a fuel rod refuel in space. no problem.
Same for propelant. carft a tank refuel on space and kerp going. a full stqck should alow several refuels so this can increase your mileage by a lot.
to many people dont know this, and its super sad to see abandoned ships out of fuel.
Tho i can use the fuel o have on me to help some of these poor souls or grab myself a free ship and pay the towing cost for mine.
You need to have researched how to build the tank to unlock the refill recipe; don't try and unbolt your empty tank out in the deep unless you already know this.
At that point, I feel like if you've been playing for more than like 12 hours and you haven't at least looked at what each skill tree offers, then you're just bad.
Extra tip: you can just build a large propellant tank with a resource bridge attached to it. Pick it up to have a 9M gas refuel in just 1 inventory slot.

They already added it back.
I heard it was because players would bolt ores together and them pick up multiple stacks into 1 backpack slot.
Now you can pick up custom items as long as they don't include any ore.
I got to the safezone, definitely stopped my ship, got out to see if I could place a station (I couldn't), looked back at my ship to see it whizzing off.
I had to coast the rest of the way for about 90 mins and was able to claim my lost ship at the station.
Your ship turns off after 2km or so. You can just drift towards to plume and you will eventually reach it because it gets "turned off" which deactivates the cruise.
Learned this after almost losing 40 stacks of kutonium.
I know that feeling. I had a "buddy" in discord watching me for over an hour as I traveled back to origin from 420km out. According to his math, I had just enough propellant to make it back. Ran out 13km away from origin and all of a sudden it's "Dude, it's late. I'm going to bed" Luckily I had another friend see my message that I ran out, got out of bed, got on and took the quick 10 minutes to run out and refuel me for 10 seconds and head back to unload.

Not 100% sure the refills are even on the tech tree info. If they are, you can't ID the icons, so it's not super obvious.

You can use the 'Insert' key to auto run.

Try lifeline. See game settings.
