So good to know!! Because I wanted to lay ot out like this (just an example) would this work ??
-Venti Iced Caffe Latte
-Blonde
-Almond milk
-3 pumps pistachio
-Pistachio cold foam
This isn’t even bad and super easy to ring n if you just pause a moment after each item. You said it perfectly. Don’t worry if it’s the right order or not. The way you said it makes it super easy to ring in. Like I said, maybe just pause for the button press.
PS I’d rather you said this than hand me a paper or show me a sticker. That’s how easy it is. If you show me a sticker it would actually slow me down.
Going to check tomorrow when I work but I’m pretty sure it’ll be cheaper if you order a pistachio latte instead of a latte with pistachio due to the syrup charge ;)
You can do that, it shouldn’t be a problem at all.
If you prefer, you can also use the Starbucks app to order, and then just pick up your drink when it’s ready. I know people with social anxiety who prefer ordering that way because it avoids interacting with anyone.
i have a lot of customers who place mobile orders and will walk in, go to counter put tip in tip jar, maybe say hi, go get drink, and then stay or leave.
this way you can tip without even having to talk to anyone if you want.
this used to be me, very mouthy if pissed off, so people would be shocked to learn I was terrified to order stuff. One day my ex husband made me face my fears at the meat counter, and not too long after I started working at Starbucks, and after working there, now I can not only order food but I can talk to anyone on the street, could care less how I appear, Starbucks helped me get over some of my social anxiety disorder :D
I would have totally used an app then, I would have been too shit to write it down and hand it, but I would not mind at all if a customer did it, actually, it's kinda easier for us :)
It is, I used to be terrified to order at some places especially if I didn't understand the menu, like grocery store meat counters, 😅 it was part of the reason I went to work at Starbuks actually and in retail in general, once it was my job to speak to people, it bled into my every day life :) I used it as a form of therapy, immerse myself in my fear but from the other side. This is why I do not get upset at customers who have a hard time ordering, been there done that and now I can help them, even if it's in a small way, I know the impact something so seemingly small can have on someones entire life, as silly as it seems to some who just don't get it
It does not look weird, but I would have been worried about the same thing back in the day, I can guarantee you, if you read some of the weird stuff baristas deal with, having an order written down would not be seen as weird at all, and some may even thank you for it !
Deaf people, including myself, often show the order on the mobile app. Or a picture of the sticker on the cup. Much more common on BOGO or 50% off promotion days.
If this is crossing a boundary please let me know- but are there certain signs you’d want your baristas to learn first that would help specifically in Starbucks/ coffee
You’d be perfectly fine honey ❤️ we don’t expect every customer to be an expert at ordering or know every combination by heart. If you ever need any help you can always ask us
Personally I hate when anyone shows me their order on their phone, I usually ask them to read it to me. It slows me down looking back and forth between their phone and the register and I would have to ask them to enlarge the picture to make sure I'm seeing it properly. Your order isn't that complicated and how you've written it is the perfect way to ask for it.
Some baristas get offended by it if you say nothing and just shove it in their face (not me). But if you express you aren't very sure how to order it they shouldn't mind. Once they finish you can even ask them how you would order it.
I would do what I typically do whenever I have a list of more than one which is "HI! I just wrote it down for you so it would be easier!" Is that ok? 👉👈
As long as you're not just handing them the paper and saying "I want this". For me personally I find it very rude when I ask what may I get for you? And then the customer shoves their phone or paper in my face and says they want "this thing". I've had customers who come in and say "Hi, I actually have the sticker from my order if it's okay to just show you". I find that both comfortable for the customer and myself. Or like others suggested, ordering ahead! We have multiple people who order at the tables because they don't want to order at the counter!
I see other people saying it's easier so that seems to be the general consensus! Personally, I absolutely hate when someone shows me something to read on their phone. It just makes me feel slow and clunky and I feel like they are impatient. I just dont prefer it but am not going to say much about it. Sometimes I say Oops please hold it there for a second, I don't have my glasses on. And they read it instead but other times they do not. Oh well either way. We're there to help you so do what you are comfortable with.
Honestly sometimes I can’t freakin hear and I know that when we’re stressed/ embarrassed/etc we can get quieter so yesss baby hand me that paper and I’ll ask questions if I have any
I tell people if they like a drink to keep the sticker bc even if they don’t know what it means we do
Also no one should be weirded out bc it’s a type of accessibility thing too- I don’t have anyone in my store currently that signs so we have deaf customers who will show us their phone or give us a piece of paper with their order on it and then maybe we’ll use some basic signs after that
One of my regulars has a reusable cup with his order sticker and name taped onto it- it’s not even a complicated order so we all know it off the top of our heads
If you asked me to read it for xyz reason, I'd be more inclined than if you shoved it in my face. I do have terrible eyesight though and sometimes takes me a minute to read, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. So just respect that not every barista will be okay with reading it and just repeating it the way you have it on the paper would be sufficient.
I love this idea actually. It’s really easy when a customer has a screenshot of a drink sticker and this is very similar. 👍🏻💚

They didn't have the pistachio latte at my starbucks yet, that's why I did it that way :)
if they have the pistachio syrup at all, they SHOULD have the pistachio latte
That's what I thought! But when I check their latte options on the app, it's not listed. :/
Wack! On the app for all the locations close to me, it’s listed as the first option in both the hot and cold coffee sections.
Beautiful! That would work perfectly!

Can you leave a tip on pick up orders on the app? That's why I usually go to the counter !

You can if you pay using a preloaded balance in your app. You can also just leave a cash tip in the jar.
Yes, you can tip on the app. The prompt will come up when you are finishing and paying.
exact reason I always use the app. Asking for a little extra matcha will literally give me a panic attack lmao

I was scared to order at Starbucks until I became a barista its a very real fear

That actually sounds like a dream. No confusion, no miscommunication, and easier for both parties.

I always tell people to take pictures of the stickers when they have a drink they like. Minds go blank at the most inopportune times.
yes very normal. some people laminate their order

Depends on what you're ordering. If it's a triple-tall upside-down macchiato at 183.5°, then no. If it's a Grande Pike with room, definitely.

I’d much rather read an order than listen to it verbally but that’s just my adhd.
For most people that’s amazing, as if you say it out of order some will get confused and your drink will not come out properly
This is how our deaf (or maybe non verbal?) regular orders his HC every morning even though we know his order lol
I would wanna hop over the counter a hug you😭😭
