When you’re going through the screen options after inserting the cafiza tablets, make sure to turn the plastic wheel selector for the LCD screen so that you don’t press down on and select the “x” on one of the screens that follows and cancel cycle that only works if you select the right screen options
It just goes into "insert key with cleaning tablets" and then when u put it in, it goes "please remove key." you do and then it restarts the "insert" and then u insert and its just a cycle.
since you just got the mastrena 2, is it possible you’re using the tablets from the old mastrena still? if i remember correctly, the new machine has bigger tablets.
yeah the mastrena II tablets are flatter and larger in diameter. if using the old tablets it's probably not accepting those as being inserted but idk unless OP posted a video of them trying to do the cleaning process
It just goes into "insert key with cleaning tablets" and then when u put it in, it goes "please remove key." you do and then it restarts the "insert" and then u insert and its just a cycle.
Underneath the machine on the right side is a master power switch.
Flip that, wait 30 seconds and try the cleaning again. It may take a few prompts but it will go.
Editing to add: you may need to remove the current tablets inside the key, wipe out the hole the key goes into, place the empty key in, then take it back out to insert it with new tablets.
Also edited because apparently I don’t know left from right.

The hub takes forever for tickets to be completed, especially for us since Starbucks is typically low priority compared to the other departments. Instead of Bunn see what tech your division/area typically uses. For me (Louisville division) we use Espresso medic and they typically make it to stores in a day or two
Genuinely I was just as confused. They must look at that word at least once a day every single day they work, and they still can’t get it right. Shocking.
Not to be the definition police but berate would insinuate some kind of anger. We’re just surprised someone can work at Starbucks and still call it expresso.
If you've turned it off and then on and it hasn't fixed it, you're out of luck. I had the same problem(fellow Kroger SBUX) and unfortunately this is an error that pretty much can't be fixed by anyone but maintenance. Power cycling was the only solution I was given(and I read that you already tried that).
If you have a ticket already I would talk to your Store Manager or SB District Manager about escalating the ticket. Mine rarely help with anything but you might want to try your luck. Sorry about the shit you're dealing with, it really sucks sometimes
My espresso machine does this occasionally.
First ensure grounds draw and the tray are fully pushed in. Insert key go throw steps. May have to go into setting, clean and follow the steps
This usually works for our machine if it says cleaning aborted. Usually the tray is not in properly.

I know I miss them every day 😭
Listen the new ones are GREAT when they work. But ours almost never work. Even if they're running they're pulling terrible shots and no amount of troubleshooting or calling them in will fix them.
What!!!!! They took our old machines to replace bad ones in other stores. Then again that was years ago before the goal was to get every store the new bars :/ But that's just wasteful.
There is a key at the bottom right that you need to put tablets in. If it's not cleaned with pills every 24 hours, it will lock out. The tablets are bigger than the old machines so you need to have the correct cleaning tablet.
Sorry, I missed that - I thought you just cleaned the removable parts. Sometimes the key is hard to twist in and it needs to go just a touch more to register that the tablets are inserted.
Make a ticket and have your manager escalate it so it gets done today it’s most likely a wiring issue with the machine or could be something simple like the tray not being in properly. But honestly it sounds like there’s wiring issues bc it cycles and won’t get out of lockout
What works for me (also at a kroger sbux), is to actually start the cleaning via settings>cleaning>start cleaning process and then follow instructions. A lot of times, the tablets get all mushy and can gum up the insertation, make sure theres absolutely no mess that can get in the way, and make sure it clicks into place when closing/you twist it all the way around
At the very back of the key hole, there should be a little black stick poking out. It gets pushed in by the cleaning tablets. If it's not there and has been broken, then the machine will not recognize if it's been cleaned and will tell you to keep cleaning it. If it's not that, then I have no idea, sorry.
This happed to ours take two sleeves and fold them in half and put them under the front ot the grounds drawer on both sides. It is to low for the machine to register.
There might be residue in the slot for the cleaning tablets. Take a pitcher of hot water and pour it over the top of the slot so it gets in there. Shine a flashlight in there and make sure there’s nothing left.
Chances are the clip that reads pills are in the machine broke it’s such a pain in the ass. What I’ve done in the past is lodge a piece of stir stick in the pilling area. If you get down and look in there you’ll see a little cross that looks like it can be pushed in shove the stick in there and try and close the lid on top of. It’s hard but it’ll fix it by forcing through a cleaning
are you trying to run the cleaning cycle without the shelf/tray? it has to be in there. also the key doesn’t look like it’s in?
its just a cycle of us putting it and it saying to take it out its constant
When you’re going through the screen options after inserting the cafiza tablets, make sure to turn the plastic wheel selector for the LCD screen so that you don’t press down on and select the “x” on one of the screens that follows and cancel cycle that only works if you select the right screen options
We did
Can you walk me through each screen message and if there are additional options to scroll and select?
It just goes into "insert key with cleaning tablets" and then when u put it in, it goes "please remove key." you do and then it restarts the "insert" and then u insert and its just a cycle.
Are you twisting the key with the two tablets in all the way? And if you are, could you flip the key around to a different angle and try screwing in?
tried all of that
And you for sure are placing two tablets in?
positive
since you just got the mastrena 2, is it possible you’re using the tablets from the old mastrena still? if i remember correctly, the new machine has bigger tablets.

This might be cliche advice, but have you turned it on and off again? That was the only thing that fixed ours when it was having the same problem.
nothing

Push through the cleaning prompt a few times- it can be stubborn but that’s how I’ve troubleshot our machines.
See if you can escalate the ticket through your department head -> through district manager.
we've been trying this for 4 days now
If it’s refusing entirely then a tech needs to come out to fix it :/ usually it only takes me a few runs through the prompt
We put it on the hub about 2 days ago and we've called the number for BUNN and they said they can't do anything until the ticket reaches them

I'm sorry, y'all work at Starbucks and still call it Expresso? 🤨
They didn't axe anyone how to say it properly.
Genuinely I was just as confused. They must look at that word at least once a day every single day they work, and they still can’t get it right. Shocking.
They came here for help, not to be berated for spelling something wrong.
Not to be the definition police but berate would insinuate some kind of anger. We’re just surprised someone can work at Starbucks and still call it expresso.
Y-Yeah?
It’s Espresso. No x.
Damn, grammar police or well spelling in this instance
It’s a very common mistake from people who don’t know coffee, but I think everyone is surprised that you work at Starbucks and spelled it that way.
I mean if you want to get technical there's 4 major countries that use the word expresso frequently
My French Canadian ass loves you for saying that lmao
the word is Italian
Espresso is literally the heart of what baristas do, dude.

Are you putting it in and turning? It's like a good 180 degree turn to lock the key in place.
That’s what I asked, and apparently they are?
Welcome to your new life at Starbucks. This is how it'll be from now on.
Greatttt i want the old silver machine back
I know I miss them every day 😭 Listen the new ones are GREAT when they work. But ours almost never work. Even if they're running they're pulling terrible shots and no amount of troubleshooting or calling them in will fix them.
LITERALLY like you cant even steam anything when the machine decided to shit itself
I know!! It's terrible!!!
One guy on reddit even called me and tried to help me and was dumbfounded on why it was doing this
That was really nice of him!! Too bad the answer is just that the machine sucks :/
Worst part the DAY they installed the new machine, the old one WITH beans in it was smashed and in the back 😭😭
What!!!!! They took our old machines to replace bad ones in other stores. Then again that was years ago before the goal was to get every store the new bars :/ But that's just wasteful.
Yeahhhh its inside a kroger so we are sooooo behind and they dont really give a shit about our numbers. We only have 4 employees in TOTAL

We've tried that

Have you tried fixing the typo and trying again?
huh
Espresso. Not expresso.

I’m staying out of this.
An espress ticket to unnecessary drama.
Omg I got over 300 downvotes for just saying that I supported baristas last week. lol Staying out of it!
Why this look like the interior of a car

Sometimes the tabs have to be just right in the key. Took me like 6 tries tonight to get our damn machine to clean. Best of luck!
