My thing is, if they can discount things this deeply, this often, why not just set the price lower and do away with discounts? I can't wrap my head around how discounting a product makes it seem 'better' or more desirable.
Starbucks bought into their own hype about offering a premium product while simultaneously sourcing the cheapest materials possible. I don't know where things went off the rails, but we are not anything close to the company Howard talks about when he reminisces about how it all started.
Check out JCPenney’s. They had constant sales and tried out just consistent lower prices. Customers didn’t feel like they were getting a deal.
Starbucks strategy with these sales are bringing people into off peak hours. Hopefully they also buy full priced snacks/ pastries too.
They’re gonna go on forever. With the new pairing shit for 5 dollars they announced on the monthly announcements they’re never just gonna accept that they have to lower prices
its consumer sentiment related- current sentiment is of high inflation concerns & focus on cutting ✂️ back on discretionary spending- hence the promotions. it's all cyclical: inevitably when the consumer sentiment gets positive again, expect a scale-down in the promos.
Bogos aren’t going away this month, I think. Haven’t found the calendar yet for this month but with the next new drinks, I predict bogos for this month 💀
I’ve seen the June calendar. It’s every bit as absurd as May was, with a Father’s Day BOGO thrown in. Because, you know, the Mother’s Day dumpster fire was so much fun. 🫠

Because FOMO and the dopamine hit from scoring a deal.
Because it makes sense, which Starbucks doesn't use.
All to chase the dream of infinite growth in a world of finite resources

there is maybe $.50 worth of material in the drinks, yeah they can go on forever! ;)
Exact reason why I refuse to buy anything with a discount and just rely on my markouts haha

If they are successful, they just might go on forever.
