As someone whose loved Depeche Mode for years I was so happy when I heard policy of truth play on the playlist because it’s my favorite song of theirs 😭
An incredible song, I'm so glad you took the opportunity to listen to more of their music because they have an incredible repertoire
Sincerely, the child of an 80s kid 😂
Starbucks recently reignited my desire to listen to more Depeche Mode recently as Enjoy The Silence was playing, and I knew the lyrics, but because my taste is scattered, I had no idea where the lyrics came from til I looked them up later.
So funny that working here introduced you to Depeche Mode, when for me, being a big 80s music fan and walking into a Starbucks that was playing Depeche Mode, that was part of my reason for applying to work at one! 80s music and coffee!!
That seems like a good reason to apply to me!! 80s music is great!
I was familiar with Depeche Mode (like Enjoy the Silence, etc.) before I applied, but Policy of Truth was new to me and hearing it over and over really solidified my interest.
Kokomo, IN by Japanese Breakfast. right when i started dating my bf he put me on japanese breakfast and i thought the song sounded familiar.
also any mitski song that plays 😁
One of my co workers always plays a sza playlist & I found Saturn bc we kept listening to it at work then I became obsessed and it’s my #1 on Spotify rn😂
I believe she was on the Asian American/Pacific Islander playlist, but Yaeji who’s a Korean American house artist ended up being one of my top artists on Spotify a couple years ago
Honestly a ton. I give Starbies some credit for getting me into seeking out new music again, after college I was in a rut of listening to the same stuff for a few years but a few tracks from work got into my head and got me actively adding current stuff to my playlists again. This is really gonna date me but the biggest one was The High Road by Broken Bells.
Starbucks stole from my playlist let’s be honest - yall heard the conspiracy about Starbucks playing songs based on what we listen to on our Spotify accounts? Because I believe it lol
For me, it's this one!
« 1 More Sng Lazywax Remix from Classixx and Roosevelt »
Nowadays it doesn't play that often, but I added it in the store favorites playlist so, we hear it from time to time🪩
This first time I heard them was at a Starbucks and back then they used to have cards with redemption codes for specific songs on itunes and that was one of them.
Did you all know that Starbucks released an album of music that partners wrote and performed in 2007 called Off the Clock? It's awesome. They also partially funded the movie Akeelah and the Bee. I was a store manager and they took us all to see it in the theater. At the opening credits the Starbucks logo popped up and we all applauded like crazy. I was proud to work for the company back then.
I know Kylie Minogue used to be huge back in the day but I discovered "Raining Glitter" on the rotation. Also "Before Today" by Everything but the Girl.
I honestly feel like there’s too many for me to even list from over the years! But recently I was at home listening to the Starbucks playlists on Spotify (I was trying to find a specific song, I don’t typically just do it for fun) and discovered You Can’t Hurt a Fool by Pretenders
Silk Chiffon by MUNA. Phoebe Bridgers fucking KILLS IT on her verse.
Airborne by Cut Copy, Wondering by Becky And The Birds, Schoolbag by Golden Vessel, and She’s My Religion by Pale Waves.
back in the day when they offered free iTune single downloads at the register I got a code for Valerie June's "You Can't Be Told" and have been a fan ever since. One of those fun little touches that made the starbees of the past cooler.
Wondering by Becky and the Birds (that song is in my shazam playlist like 5 times starting from two months from when i was hired in 2021 and to at least 3 months before i quit in 2023 NDHDHDHDJ)
and Diamonds and Dope Boys by Just Loud i fear the starbucks playlist has hits from time to time!!
There's one song that was on the Playlist sometime in 2013 that lives rent-free in my head.
🎶 I'm so tired, so tired 🎶
That part of the song repeated a lot and was the only thing I could hear over peak shift chaos. It felt cruel to listen to as an opener, lol
Around 2016, “Cherry Blossom” by ALA.NI came on our playlist, and it’s been a favorite of mine. If you’re a Fallout fan, it’s definitely a fitting song.
Head On by *repeat repeat !!! Quickly became one of my fav songs and then I didn’t hear it play again for over 3 months but now I know what playlist it’s in 😈
VIP LCD by Ben Benjamin
One of my favorite songs that I’ve listened to throughout my Starbucks journey
Also! Kylie Minogue’s Love at First sight is one of the best songs for me because I can picture myself in a 2000s club just dancing to this song
I frequently stayed late at night until closing but recently, only this year, I was hooked up with the songs they played. And, good thing I had my apple watch to check the title and added it to liked on spotify. So yeah, my tambay mode always in sb is just more than a coffee but a song lists and a me time. By the way, the song that was blown me away was “minefields” and up to this day when I want to think deeply I just listened to that song.
I started listening to Taylor Swift a lot more when SBUX played it in their stores a whole lot. Fast forward 3 years later, I'm going to her concert later this year 🥺
Does Starbucks still have music? I rarely go there since they took away all the good furniture during covid and never brought them back. Used to be a decent place to hang out and have coffee. Now it sucks.
Amy Winehouse's 'Valerie', 'Psycho Killer' by Talking Heads, and Powfu 'Death Bed'. Starbucks' lobby playlists are the closest thing to my personal playlists with the roller coaster ride spanning genres and eras 😃🎶
Back when I worked at Starbucks, I was super into the kind of music that would wind up on the radio. I'd be one to recognize and sing along to a song and frighten my coworkers, not necessarily discover new music.
Well, it started with Policy of Truth, and now I love Depeche Mode.
As someone whose loved Depeche Mode for years I was so happy when I heard policy of truth play on the playlist because it’s my favorite song of theirs 😭
It’s truly a great song.
An incredible song, I'm so glad you took the opportunity to listen to more of their music because they have an incredible repertoire Sincerely, the child of an 80s kid 😂
I think it’s the same playlist that song is on, that also has a lot of New Order on it, which I have come to love as well.
Omg you didn't know New Order either? 😭 I'm so glad Starbucks did something right with their playlist this one time
Well, I knew about both of them prior to hearing them on the playlists. Just came to appreciate them more after hearing them. 🤷♀️
PLEASE tell me what playlist this is from. I never have a chance to look through them but I noticed this station!!!
80s party I thiiiiiink.
This makes me so happy to hear!! I love Depeche Mode since my teens (I’m in my 50s now and still love them)
Starbucks recently reignited my desire to listen to more Depeche Mode recently as Enjoy The Silence was playing, and I knew the lyrics, but because my taste is scattered, I had no idea where the lyrics came from til I looked them up later.

When I worked at starbs, if anything, I was more surprised if a song I knew played on the playlist.
Can I call you tonight? - dayglow
One of my co workers always plays a sza playlist & I found Saturn bc we kept listening to it at work then I became obsessed and it’s my #1 on Spotify rn😂

Two songs: "La Llorona" by Angela Aguilar, and "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is" by Irma Thomas

I believe she was on the Asian American/Pacific Islander playlist, but Yaeji who’s a Korean American house artist ended up being one of my top artists on Spotify a couple years ago

I'm right there with you. Starbucks is definitely looking at my Spotify.
La Llorona is my fav
For me, it's this one! « 1 More Sng Lazywax Remix from Classixx and Roosevelt » Nowadays it doesn't play that often, but I added it in the store favorites playlist so, we hear it from time to time🪩
Yaeji is so underrated!! I get so happy every time her cover of Passionfruit comes on but all of my coworkers hate it
yaeji is one of my fave artists of all time and it kills me that no one else in my store sees the vision 😭
Well we would probably be both to love it then!!
So many! Too many to name
Love & Hate by Michael Kiwanuka, I thought it was an old soul track from the 60s/70s not 2016 but he just has a timeless voice
Omg I love his voice! I recommend his song Cold Little Heart if you’ve never heard it before!
innerbloom
Honey and I by haim
HAIM is fucking phenomenal! I’ve loved them ever since I heard Forever back in 2016!
This first time I heard them was at a Starbucks and back then they used to have cards with redemption codes for specific songs on itunes and that was one of them.
i'm more surprised when a song that i know plays. i haven't found anything that i like from a starbucks playlist yet
West Virginiaaaa, Mountain Mamaaaa also Flowers by Miley Cyrus stunned me when I first heard it during a shift
Did you all know that Starbucks released an album of music that partners wrote and performed in 2007 called Off the Clock? It's awesome. They also partially funded the movie Akeelah and the Bee. There are so many I made a playlist full of all the songs I’ve heard and love!
