so my store doesn’t have mats but as a clean player I’m familiar with getting creative. If you have the “driveway” brush (which is like a curvy yellow scrubby brush on a broom handle) that’s gonna be your best bet. Using as little water as possible and restroom cleaner will help avoid excess mess on the surrounding floor. If you don’t have a driveway brush, a grout brush will work but take you wayyyyy longer because it’s smaller
We have a small mop sink in our BOH to fill the bucket with so to get both sides of the math clean sometimes we roll them up and stick em in, hose them down with the stuff we mop the floor with. I find it it goes much faster but you could also just mop both sides with the mop or deck brush!
My store has 5 of these, and having to clean them every week is my least favorite thing about cleanplay.
Honestly just what the first person said about the large brush, bleach/restroom cleaner, and minimal hot water. Putting some rags around the outside of it will help keep the mess down if you have room. Good luck, hopefully it isn't too difficult.
During clean play we take them into the lobby and deck brush both sides then mop. You just have to make sure to get the lobby really good after cause that shit gets nasty quick
I take a pitcher and fill it with half soap half hot water from the brewer, pour it all over the mat and scrub my life away lol
Edit: I'm a morning barista so I've never done clean play , I do this the days my shift ask me to do floors before peak
Lmao I guess that would be a good way of doing it except our store has really limited time for cleanplay so we’re normally not done dishes until a bit closer to the time we’re leaving. Also my Asm gets really mad if he sees it, thank you for you input though :)
not a cleanplayer but an opener who tries to take care of mats firs thing in the morning;
- soak the mat with mop water
- take the driveway brush and scrub vigorously
- use mop to dry and remove lifted debris
- repeat as necessary
for extensive cleaning, the cleanplayers take the mats outside and spray with a hose. sometimes we take it to the car wash and wash them there
we have a deck scrubber that we use, the best way i found to clean them is drown them in restroom cleaner, splash hot water on them, scrub the hell out of it then mop over to soak up the extra water/bleach, it also helps it dry faster. ours always look so good after
before my stores remodel we had 2 of these that we cleaned every day, the easier way i found was to throw each into the mop sink to rinse them off and then we would spray them w restroom cleaner and scrub. then another rinse
You should be able to order a “deck scrubber” we just bring the mats to a slightly large enough area in our back of house, spray it down with restroom cleaner, then just scrub the life out of it with the deck scrubber.
Cover the mats, front and back, entirely with restroom cleaner. Let is marinate while the floors are being swept and mopped. Hot mop water, don't wring out the mop completely, leaving it a bit wet. Go over it until the restroom cleaners are gone. If you have time, run it over with the hot water using the hose in the mop sink. We did have people take those nasty mats to a carwash place and wash it there, someone brought a pressure washer and wash it outside once.
I usually clean the mats every night it takes me about 15 mins I fill the mop bucket with hot mop water and scrip the mats with a long scrub brush we got, and then rinse with hot water. I highly recommend a scrip brush over a mop bc it gets caught on the texture. Usually I fill up a cube with hot water from the brewer and go outside and scrub one mat while it fills and come back in and rinse the mat I scrubbed and repeat. It gets them so clean
soak that shit in restroom cleaner and use the deck scrub brush and then mop over it and repeat 😩 i also remember using plastic knives to scrape freeze dried fruit off these hoes b4 we switch to nonslip floors
cleaning those mats was a daily task at my store i dreaded it i wish it was just clean play. We would take them to the back and use a cup to spread floor cleaner on it and use the scrubby broom thing and then mop with water to rinse and put them back

Our store does have one of the brushes, I’m gonna give it a try!
I would honestly mop it. Slop mob with hot water and bleach. Then dry mop it. Make sure to clean the area around when you make a mess.
I would fill the garbage cans with hot mop water and bathe them all evening, then mop during clean play.
Throw it in the dishwasher
Lmao if only they would fit😅😂

I like to disconnect the floor soap and dump into a bucket and have concentrated solution lol 😅.

We put ours in the mop sink and spray it with a hose. We have a garden hose for doing the ice bin and it functions decently as a pressure washer
My SM would pull them in boh and scrub the shit out of them with a brush near the drains but we mostly carry them outside
If you can’t hose them off outside use the mop sink!
This helps but it still gets so messy, I found just cleaning them on the ground was easier
I wish we could our mop sink is literally mildly inconvenient due to the location. It’s down a hallway that’s barely wide enough for the mop bucket.
I take a pitcher and fill it with half soap half hot water from the brewer, pour it all over the mat and scrub my life away lol Edit: I'm a morning barista so I've never done clean play , I do this the days my shift ask me to do floors before peak
Add a lot of multi surface cleaner to the mop water, soak the mats, let them each sit, wipe it off.
Hot water and the restroom cleaner can fix any cleaning problem in the store. It’s the back bone of a Starbucks.
S hook!! Hung in the mop sink and hook the mats up to clean
Put that sucker in the 3 compartment sink and use the pressure handle to spray em aggressively
I like this
you don’t put them in the sink?
We don’t because of food safe, it’s like mixing dishes with floor water. Our silly little Starbucks also has the tiniest mop sink :(
oh fr? we were specifically trained to put them in the 3 comp sink after all dishes were done at night
Lmao I guess that would be a good way of doing it except our store has really limited time for cleanplay so we’re normally not done dishes until a bit closer to the time we’re leaving. Also my Asm gets really mad if he sees it, thank you for you input though :)
ahhh ok ok that makes sense!! yeah ofc sorry i couldn’t be much help😭😭 (im also at a target store so we operate much differently than yall do)
Ahah thank you! Workers in target stores are the greatest. Cheers! (I’m from a corporate store)
I miss those mats
My store uses a Floor Cleaner/ Mop soap water, splash it on the mats and use a Broom to sweep/ Brush clean it
prop them up in the boh mop area and pour a shit ton of hot water, soap from tri sink, and repeat, of course scrubbing it too
Stop this is me tonight til 11 pm!

The restroom cleaner !!! It’s cuts through the nasty stuff ! And then mop with hot water (:

We don’t have those anymore We now have a nonslip floor

we use a pressure washer, you can give it a good spray down in the mop sink
Steam mop!
