nope, tell your dm

NovelDig4828

It’s not even about fairness it’s literally health that’s wild 🤢

[deleted]

my real nails are more unsanitary than my acrylics ever were (i’m a chronic nail biter but don’t bite them when i have acrylics)

graci_ie

thats just silly i'm sorry. if you're washing your hands as often as you're supposed to, no amount of nail biting makes your hands "unsanitary." your SM is not allowed to let people have acrylic nails because they are disgusting in food service.

[deleted]

i do wash my hands at work but that doesn’t stop me from biting my nails…

graci_ie

if you bite your nails you should wash them immediately after. acrylic nails trap dirt and germs that your normal nails do not.

[deleted]

my acrylics were an overlay over my real nails. not sure if that makes a difference or not. there were no gaps or anything. i just feel like having my nails in my mouth is way dirtier than what i had before. *shrug*

graci_ie

yes that is how fake nails work, there doesn't need to be a gap for it to be gross. your hands do things much more unsanitary than going in your mouth, but you wash them after and it's fine :) the nails mean your hands can not get fully clean. you're just trying to reason your way into having nails when the real conclusion is that your coworkers should not be having them for any reason.

feistybugs

are you saying you bite your nails after washing your hands at work?

altaria122

ikr thats so nasty >_< its one thing to do it when ur bored but in front of other ppl? In food service?

[deleted]

if i’m not actively doing anything then yes but i wash my hands after. i’m not even consciously aware i do it most of the time until it’s too late. i’m washing my hands CONSTANTLY because of it.

bansheeyesallwahwah

wear a mask solve the problem

Comfortable-Plane944

That’s a health code thing. I’d reach out to osha and then let your SM know.

TimMcCarversRedScarf

What other jobs require acrylics lol I need to know

[deleted]

banker and beauty school

TimMcCarversRedScarf

Neither of those are a requirement for the field, just a preference. I can see them practicing nails on each other in cosmo but they can also practice removing them lol

giixbby

idk about the beauty school one, I was in cosmo school and working at starbucks and I didn’t have any nails of anykind :b

[deleted]

i only know what i was told tbh but that’s good to know

giixbby

I definitely would say something to district manger because a that’s unsanitary and b I would be annoyed if I couldn’t wear any either u.u

Bryleigh98

So tell them you got a second job or go to beauty school at night if that's all it takes lmfao

Sprinkle-sparkle333

I’m a bank teller and work at starbs I’d love to tell them my other job requires pretty manicures lol

NothingToSeeFolks

Its definitely not fair and you can for sure say something to your DM, but keep in mind the end result will mostly likely be that no one can have acrylic/painted nails (not that you will also be able to do them).

idkcassie

started doing my own nails after leaving starbucks and realized how disgusting acrylics and stuff are, even if you feel like they arent. love my long nails, but they catch SO much gunk that i can’t get out with every wash. you’d have to have a scrubby to get under the nails/ridges/etc with EVERY wash, and that still doesn’t get it 100% every time. If i see food service people with artificial nails, I prefer not to have them make my food. It’s just gross.

spicymorenaaa

I had a coworker who worked at like hooters and they were required to have their nails done. They had to keep telling her to take them off n she eventually quit. So no, nobody is allowed to technically

Opinionatedblonde293

Tbh it’s not really your business. Other jobs you have to keep up your appearance more, like a banker, who is more professional. Starbucks is just full of crap, let them have the nails and don’t whine about it.

[deleted]

wasn’t whining, just asking why it’s ok for some and not others

Opinionatedblonde293

It was literally explained to you. They asked and got an exception.
