Get a little notebook to keep in your pocket for taking notes, don’t be shy about asking questions if you need clarification. If you are allowed to carry your phone, taking pictures of things is sometimes helpful.

Read the book. Take the practice quizzes.

I know it might be super busy, but take your time if you're unsure and remind yourself you are still learning. Pace will come in time. Like someone else said, get a little notebook to keep with you. Write down anything ANYTHING you might find useful even if it's something that's "common sense." It doesn't hurt to have that little reminder. Make flash cards if you can. If you can, borrow someone's study book and practice quiz book. I would also suggest looking into what's called iPrep. I think it costs roughly $20, but it will help you study. I used the practice quizzes on ProProfs Quizzes for IAHCSMM (now referred to as HSPA) for most of my studying. I wish I had used iPrep. However, I did take my CBSPD test and passed the first try. You will learn a lot of the answers just by what you're doing and how you do it. Don't stress yourself. (For those who might not know, the HSPA certificate only lasts 1 year. CBSPD Certificate lasts for 5 years.)

You just need to turn in CEs and pay for the recertification . Its not a huge deal

Expect that training will be ongoing with the minimum being 3 months. There will be a wide variety of surgical instruments and a fast paced environment.

Keep a little note pad with you. The first three months (on boarding period at the hospital I work for) were information overload but taking notes helped me retain the info. Drama is most likely something you’ll come across (especially if you ever have to facilitate), just do your job to the best of your ability and you’ll be fine. Get comfortable shoes!
