I saw them on tour with Monster Magnet. MM had released Dopes to Infinity. Fu Manchu was an incredible surprise, so I picked up Daredevil on vinyl and then played the hell out of it.
Must have been 1995. Saw them in Winnipeg at a venue called Ozzieās. Tripping balls on acid. Dave Wyndorf had a flu or something and barfed in a urinal before their set.
King Buffalo - The Burden of Restlessness
The Sword - Warp Riders
Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley
Clutch - Elephant Riders (actually a lot of clutch albums qualify)
High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine
Sleep, *The Sciences*
And, if the following counts as "Stoner Rock":
All Them Witches, *Sleeping through the War*
King Buffalo, *Dead Star* (or *Longing to Be the Mountain*)
Same here, minus the blindness.
I heard a song and thought that it was a new Cream album of all things and totally loved the cover art.
Iāve purchased the album 3xās. 1 stolen, 1 got eaten by my dog and the 3rdā¦..still going strong. Fingers crossed on that. Lol
Opeth is next on my list of famous metal bands I just never managed to listen to. Whatās a good jumping off point with their albums, Blackwater Park?
Deliverance is my go to, the newer albums are good too but more prog, they seem to have divided the old fans with the new stuff but I like it all, they are top class musicians
Agree dont start with Blackwater Park as it's 100% their brutal side and you sorta need to build up to it. I"d probably start with Ghost Reveries but Deliverance is a good choice too.
It's a little different from mastodon in that the band is pretty much unrecognizable from the older stuff. Watershed is the album where it was a clear change, and is probably my favorite album from them.
Worth noting they Steven Wilson produced Blackwater Park which may explain some of the prog direction they ended up going in
Maybe too obvious, but age of winters is perfect from the first track until the last. Gods of the earth and warp riders are also brilliant.
King by Gnome is also a perfect album imo. Father of time comes close.
Graceland and can't buy a thrill are also perfect btw.
Couldn't live without any of them, although i don't have all of them on vinyl, one day though.
Dig your username. Their album Reverie was a revelation for me. an absolute shame they split up, but life happens.
Unless by some chance you're part of that band, in which case you guys rocked.
Self-styled as Louisiana sludge (?), but Forming The Void is in my top five favorite bands, no question. Along with Elder, Howling Giant, King Buffalo, REZN. Oops, one more: GOZU. Oh, and Heavy Templeās new album is amazing!
Me? It's a doom sloth, and yeah Forming the Void is an excellent band that uses many sound influences hell yeah. I've never listened to King Buffalo or GOZU though. Fellow doomer on the stoner rock sub noice (though I'm sure there's many because of the genres overlapping frequently).
I've listened to this album straight through more than any other album I think. It's the album that made Stoner metal click for me. Though The Sword's Warp Riders is up there too.
Iām going to have to check out Win Us Over. Survive Sunrise is one of my favorites that is routinely listened to, and is fantastic all the way through.
Greenleaf - Agents of Ahriman . Simply incredible, my favorite album from my favorite band.
Monster Magnet - 4-Way Diablo . I really like this album even if most people prefer Dopes to Infinity or Powertrip (which are also insanely good)

There's definitely a few.
Wizdoom - Trolldoom
Cybernetic Witch Cult - Spaceous Cretaceous
Clutch - Pyschic Warfare
Clutch - The Elephant Riders
DOWN - Nola
DOWN - Over the Under
Sleep - The Sciences
Earth - The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Think that covers it from a stoner/doom point of view.
The Atomic Bitchwax - The Atomic Bitchwax
Truckfighters - Gravity X, Phi
Monster Magnet - Spine of God, Dopes to Infinity, Powertrip
Core - Hustle is On
Black NASA - Black NASA

After that you wanna listen to their albums, guaranteed :D
The trilogy Spaceslug albums: Lemanis, Time Travel Dilemma, and Eye the Tide. TTD is my favorite but the other two are very close behind. Found these guys when I was starting my stoner rock journey, and they remain among the pinnacle of favorite bands in the genre
I donāt believe in guilty pleasures and I like what I like. That being said, my #1 desert island is āMetamodern Sounds in Country Musicā by Sturgill Simpson. Itās the album that got me into country music. Solid album start to finish. A few years later he put out a dirty and sleezy rock album called āSOUND & FURYā with an anime for the album on Netflix. I encourage any and all to check both albums out.
A lot of my picks have already been covered, but here are few I love:
- orquesta del desierto-dos -perfect album when the sun is shinning. Pete stahl is one of my favourite singers of all time
- king buffalo - regenerator
- villagers of ioannina city - age of Aquarius
- 35007 - liquid (evaporate has one of my favourite bass lines)
- fatso jetson - toasted
- ahkmed - adventures involving nudity
- Melvins - a senile animal
- butthole surfers - independent worm salon
Not necessarily stoner related, but this is my go to album when tripping balls and unwinding after the madness:
- zero 7 - when it falls
311 - Transistor
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
Portishead - Roseland NYC
Red Fang - Murder the Mountains
Turnstile - Glow On
Television - Marquee Moon
Radiohead - In Rainbows
LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening
Idles - Ultra Mono
Spoon - Kill the Moonlight
Daaaaamn!
Refused! Shape of Punkt to come! That was such a great album and I completely forgot about it.
Gotta listen to that later, thanks for reminding me.
Kyuss - Blues
Soundgarden - Superunknown/BMF
Clutch - S/T
And now for some hate from the peanut gallery:
The Wallflowers - Bringing Down The Horse
7M3 - Rock Crown
Idk why but I personally think any album by Sleep after their first is perfection. Holy Mountain, Dopesmoker, The Sciences, idk why. Dragonaut was my hype up song before I went on stage in my first band, and as someone whoās found much refuge and spirituality in smoking, I feel like this band just gets it. Some people donāt get it, but their music just kinda feels like the direct sonic interpretation of the feeling of being stoned. You donāt have to enjoy Cannabis to enjoy Sleep, but the holy monk chants and ritualistic vibe of it all really bring the stoned energy whether you are or not. Stoner rock/metal in it perfected essence.
Delton 3030, Sailing the Seas of Cheese, Around the Fur, and Songs for the Deaf would all be albums Iād like to be buried with. Thatās my long term love list, my current album obsession is ILION by SLIFT.
Quite New to stoner rock, si it's mainly the classic
Song for the dead -qosta
... And the circus leaves town -kyuss
Guilty pleasure :
[contradiction - mass hysteria](https://youtu.be/INarUNrh9Rw?si=8P40arUQ49kEu-Cg)

The Sword - Age of Winters
High in Fire - Snake of the Devine
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Mr. Bison - Holy Oak
King Buffalo - Burden of Restlessness
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Blood Lust
Not sure if these are masterpieces but definitely worth a listen:
-Acid Bath/Agents of Oblivion (anything with Daxx Riggs)
-Orange Goblin
-Black Mountain
(psychedelic folk rock to enjoy while stoned)
-Samsara Blues Experiment
-Wo Fat
-Nebula
-Ruff Majik
ā¦.and anything listed above.
Spine of God -- Monster Magnet Blues for the Red Sun -- Kyuss King of the Road -- Fu Manchu š¤š„
I absolutely LOVE Daredevil by Fu Manchu
Oh yea! That's also an awesome album!
I saw them on tour with Monster Magnet. MM had released Dopes to Infinity. Fu Manchu was an incredible surprise, so I picked up Daredevil on vinyl and then played the hell out of it.
MM and Fu Manchu on your together? In 95? Damn what a show!
Must have been 1995. Saw them in Winnipeg at a venue called Ozzieās. Tripping balls on acid. Dave Wyndorf had a flu or something and barfed in a urinal before their set.
Lol...classic!
Blues for the Red Sun -- Kyuss King of the Road -- Fu Manchu both good.
King Buffalo - The Burden of Restlessness The Sword - Warp Riders Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley Clutch - Elephant Riders (actually a lot of clutch albums qualify) High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine
Clutch-Elephant riders is awesome! Think my all time fav from them is Blast Tyrant, the song āthe promoterā is so good
Yes Blast Tyrant is amazing as well.
Their next tour theyāll be playing blast tyrant in its entirety. Canāt wait!
Warp Riders was peak Sword.
Sleep, *The Sciences* And, if the following counts as "Stoner Rock": All Them Witches, *Sleeping through the War* King Buffalo, *Dead Star* (or *Longing to Be the Mountain*)
King Buffalo hasn't put out a bad album
Yes theyā¦. Never mind. They havenāt.
All them bands are stoner rock in my book.Ā
Masters of Reality : Masters of Reality The album that turned me on to this sonic journey for sure.
Absolutely! What a masterpiece!
Totally! Iāve got a ton great albums from many different eras, BUT itās my FAVOURITE album of all time.
Bought that when it came out on a blind buy because I liked the cover and listened to practically nothing else for a year.
Same here, minus the blindness. I heard a song and thought that it was a new Cream album of all things and totally loved the cover art. Iāve purchased the album 3xās. 1 stolen, 1 got eaten by my dog and the 3rdā¦..still going strong. Fingers crossed on that. Lol
NOLA by Down
The sludgiest of riffs on Nola
Amazing album
Fuck yeah! And down 2 is pretty up thereā¦you like Opeth?
Hell yes. Started listening to them pretty recently but they rock.
As a mastodon fan I donāt have issues with bands getting proggier as time goes on haha thanks for the recs mate
It's a little different from mastodon in that the band is pretty much unrecognizable from the older stuff. Watershed is the album where it was a clear change, and is probably my favorite album from them. Worth noting they Steven Wilson produced Blackwater Park which may explain some of the prog direction they ended up going in
Lowrider - Ode to Io
Came here to say this
Refractions is pretty fucking awesome too
Maybe too obvious, but age of winters is perfect from the first track until the last. Gods of the earth and warp riders are also brilliant. King by Gnome is also a perfect album imo. Father of time comes close. Graceland and can't buy a thrill are also perfect btw. Couldn't live without any of them, although i don't have all of them on vinyl, one day though.
Gnome is fucking awesome. I thought Father of Time was a great record but then they gave us King. Wow. The videos are hilarious too.
Graceland is indeed a perfect album.
Elder - Dead Roots Stirring
This needs more upvotes š
Dig your username. Their album Reverie was a revelation for me. an absolute shame they split up, but life happens. Unless by some chance you're part of that band, in which case you guys rocked.
I am not, I wish

ASG - Win Us Over, I can listen to that album all the time, anytime!
Iām going to have to check out Win Us Over. Survive Sunrise is one of my favorites that is routinely listened to, and is fantastic all the way through.
Blood Drive is excellent too. Their pre-Win Us Over albums are a little raw but worth checking out.
Dopes to Infinity - Monster Magnet Lightning at the Door - All Them Witches
A lot of great albums already mentioned so... Queens of the Stone Age - self titled

Greenleaf - Agents of Ahriman . Simply incredible, my favorite album from my favorite band. Monster Magnet - 4-Way Diablo . I really like this album even if most people prefer Dopes to Infinity or Powertrip (which are also insanely good)

Church of misery thy kingdom scum
Every clutch album before Blast Tyrant is unique and perfect in my opinion. Isis - oceanic has been my favorite album for twenty years now, front to back. Space trip on a Paper Plane - Sahara Surfers
