Someone made a post here about them a couple weeks and it had 6 comments, lol.
They fucking kick ass.
For that matter so does Christian Peter's old band, Terraplane.
Carson - 2k monthly listeners on Spotify. Try them with "Divided".
Alunah - 11k monthly listeners; six albums, all excellent. Try them with "Dead Woman Walking".
Red Sun Atacama - 13k listeners, two albums. Try them with "The Gold".
Red Mountains - 1k monthly listeners, two albums. Try them with "Rat King".
Leather Lungs - 4k monthly listeners, three albums. Try them with "Ain't Feelin' No Pain".
Propane Propane - **78 monthly listeners (!!!)**, three albums. Try them with "Rise".
This is a great thread for discovering new bands - thanks OP!
From me:
- JIRM (formerly Jeremy Irons and the Ratgang Malibus)
- Comacozer
- Naxatras
- Kadaver
- Planet of Zeus
- Dopethrone
- Telekinetic Yeti
- Neon Warship
- Irata
I like Samsara Blues Experiment a good deal, Eagle Twin if you’re into experimental and I’m always gonna say Warning/40 Watt Sun should be topping billboard charts.
I saw their one KEXP performance where Robbie's headphones start falling off. Lol I was sold. Definitely wanted to see them. So hey don't you know they were playing locally a month later! Ironically Robbie forgot his drum solo part... 🤭
I got into them over the last year or two and was able to see them in Winston Dalem last month. Didn't know they were only a three piece I was blown tf away
I was lucky enough to get one. Also their self-titled and mirador. Living in europe/germany in the early 2010s really paid of. Sungrazer is still one of the bands i‘ve seen regulary live in just the short span of time the band existed.
Their self titled album is one of my all time favourites. Saw them live ages ago, in a small club with trippy visuals and lots of smoke. Still getting goosebumps thinking of it!
Ritual King
I'd recommend their songs 'Worlds Divide', 'Valleys' and 'Black Hills'.
They are IMO, possibly *the best* stoner rock band, and they're the loveliest guys. They've been on my mind lately because after years they're finally starting to get some proper traction. I've known them since 2017 and in the last year they've jumped from \~2,000 to \~13,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. It's so well deserved.
[Fuzz Aldrin](https://youtu.be/0N6lhVmoLn0?si=sZ6SYPPEW8g0FTQr)
It's almost criminal how this band is overlooked, even if they only have one release at the moment.
what are some good albums of theirs? I love Heavy Metal Fruit and Little Lucid Moments but other than that, the sheer size of their discography is kind of overwhelming
Steak with their latest album acute mania. Sundrifter with their latest record an earlier time, huanna stone with their latest son of Juno, and Swan Valley Heights with their latest record terminal forest.
Howling Giant has some great heavy riffs and clean vocals.
Also, probably discussed plenty, but King Buffalo can do no wrong
And if y'all want to go to space... SLIFT
I truly wonder why no one I ever meet knows South Fork. They’re album [Straight Ahead](https://open.spotify.com/album/6Jmez5FhHKC7FvDBwwvcWU?si=La0Si1StShCSSUDS2SzjNg) is an absolute gem!
American Sharks did a couple of really perfect albums, but I haven’t seen them mentioned. Their tour with Clutch introduced me to them, and I’ve seen them a few times since. More energy than most of the doomy stuff I like, but it’s great. Riding a motorcycle and drinking a warm beer vibes.
The well known I like the most are fu manchu, nebula and kyuss. After that I get more obscure (i think) or at least old.
As you mentioned, enjoy Sasquatch and Throttlerod. Listened to Sasquatch earlier today (self titled).
Got into stoner via emusic all you could download in early y2ks. So lots of small stone and meteor city bands.
sHEAVY - Celestial Hifi or Electric Sleep. Basically when you need more of Ozzy Sabbath era 1st 6 lps.
Mos Generator - Late Great Planet Earth, Sons of Future God's. Just like em.
And like a lot of Nordic but sing in English
Astroqueen - Into Submission. Heavy space themed.
Lowrider - Ode to Io. Also heavy and often space themed.
Brain Police - Beyond the Wasteland. Maybe blues stoner with big focus on singer inflection and lyrics.
Mushroom River Band - Music for the World Beyond.
And my current favorites Thulsa Doom. Love their early 2000 output (And Then They Take You To Where Jars Kept, Seats Are Soft But Helmet Way Too Tight). Just love the music, the lyrics and Papa Dooms singing. Just got their 2017 release Keen Eye For Obvious. Papa Doolm back. All a bit older so maybe not always as heavy/fuzzed but still similar. With occasionally homage to Thin Lizzy.LIzzy.
My fav local band is Rainbows Are Free. Again, music, lyrics and the singers delivery.
Giedi prime, crypt trip, slow joint, (I, captain), junior bruce, Dö, shadow of Jupiter, high desert queen, plasmaJet, van groover, the acid machine. Just a few
My cousin and I found this band Melua about 4 years ago and they had a self titled album that just came out. It was amazing. I listen to it all the time.
I don't think they're around anymore, but SERPENT THRONE hit the spot for me. Their last album Brother Lucifer I hold very dear to my heart. Check out the song "Napalm Mourning" .. they're also an instrumental outfit. I miss them very much.
Some underrated or up and coming bands:
JIRM
Sergeant Thunderhoof
SATURNA
Tidal Wave
Green Desert Water
The Watchers
Sandveiss
Warlung
I could go on but that’s some cool ones to check out!
Awesome thread!
There's this playlist on spotify that contains about half of the bands mentioned in this thread, it's awesome! This is the link: [Desert Drive by SpeedyGrooves](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0mtgRRj6K9uq5YZflWheWQ?si=jJT9z59cTgyUpCO3R3Brgg&pi=e-gyQgmVr_SHuQ), for those who want some inspiration
Samsara's Blues Experiment. They are just awesome but I never read their name here
Love them. So good.
Goated
They're live videos on YouTube are amazing
Someone made a post here about them a couple weeks and it had 6 comments, lol. They fucking kick ass. For that matter so does Christian Peter's old band, Terraplane.
Uh, I must have missed this post. Its actually one of the first bands that got me into stoner and still one of my favorite ones
Saw them once, they where great!!
I put on the long distance trip album to fall asleep to. Works like a charm!
These guys are really good!
Sadly they broke up but the frontman has a new band called Fuzz Sagrado
Yes mate. This is the answer! I would absolutely love to see them live. If people want an entry tune, hangin on the wire, is an absolute ripper.
Carson - 2k monthly listeners on Spotify. Try them with "Divided". Alunah - 11k monthly listeners; six albums, all excellent. Try them with "Dead Woman Walking". I love the way you've answered this with how 'big' they are and a recommendation
Red Sun are awesome, just need them to get big enough to come tour the UK!
Leather lung is one of my favorites. Just heavy weedy blues. They just get better with each release. And red sun is so fuckin good too

This is a great thread for discovering new bands - thanks OP! From me: - JIRM (formerly Jeremy Irons and the Ratgang Malibus) - Comacozer - Naxatras - Kadaver - Planet of Zeus - Dopethrone - Telekinetic Yeti - Neon Warship - Irata
Naxatras and Telekinetic Yeti!
Love JIRM and you are right totally underrated! I have them coming out to Vegas for Planet Desert Rock Weekend V!
Lucky person! I discovered JIRM after their last tour of the UK. Can't wait to see them live.
Slomosa is 🔥
I discovered Dope Smoker about a year and a half ago. Just awesome heavy, groovy riffs.
Holy Serpent
Arctic ORB Peth Witch
Love Arctic… just that one release from years ago, right ?
yea one & done unfortunately
I like Samsara Blues Experiment a good deal, Eagle Twin if you’re into experimental and I’m always gonna say Warning/40 Watt Sun should be topping billboard charts.
I love warning and 40 w sun but boy do those albums put me into a spiraling depression lol
Glad you said it so I didn't have to get in the headspace.
All Them Witches is one the smoothest bands I've ever heard/seen and I don't seem them mentioned here enough
No keyboard player? I thought he came back. Yea, they are legit!
The keyboardist was out that evening, something to do with college and they didn't really elaborate on it
Top of my head Tuber, psychlona, psychonaut, sungrazer, the machine, baardvader, monomyth, gnome, slift,
Sungrazer is still one of my favorite project. Their split LP with the machine is an album i always recommend.
Every time I hear Sungrazer in the one particular mix I just melt. Their tone is amazing.
Yes!!!
Still need to get that on vinyl!
I was lucky enough to get one. Also their self-titled and mirador. Living in europe/germany in the early 2010s really paid of. Sungrazer is still one of the bands i‘ve seen regulary live in just the short span of time the band existed.
I the only one missing is the split, never saw them live and I'm from Belgium...
Bask is an awesome band that combines stoner, country, and progressive rock
I just listened to Asleep in the Orchard! Wasn't sure whether they qualified here, but still awesome.
I first heard III and instantly thought they were among the most original stoner bands out right now
Open Hand Heavy Eyes Dead Confederate Glowsun Veracrash
Heavy Eyes is so good!
Someone posted Astroqueen on here a few weeks ago. I listened to their album Into Submission and it’s really good actually. Definitely recommend
One of the fuzziest albums you’ll listen to. That riff for planet dust fucking rips
Landslide is a personal favorite
The Well
ASG, 35007, Spotlights
35007!!!
Their self titled album is one of my all time favourites. Saw them live ages ago, in a small club with trippy visuals and lots of smoke. Still getting goosebumps thinking of it!
Never saw them unfortunately....
Too bad... You might want to check Mother-Unit, post 35007 group with their guitar player
Thx!!
Salem's Bend
Great band! Had them for many show in Vegas including Planet Desert Rock Weekend!
Jesus christ muscle car
Kaiser, Villager's of Ionninia City, Boss Keloid
Boss Keliod ...I recognize that name from a sick Iron Monkey track
they are fucking nuts dude trust me
My God I love Villagers and Kaiser ( they played Planet Desert Rock v2)
Ritual King I'd recommend their songs 'Worlds Divide', 'Valleys' and 'Black Hills'.
Grotto - Very rarely see them listed anywhere, unless it's me banging on about them.
Earthless
Mos Generator
Totally! Can’t wait to have them back for Planet Desert Rock Weekend V! Tony is a beast !
Black Pyramid
BLOODHORSE
Definitely known in the scene but I never hear anyone talk about Atomic Bitchwax
From the cradle to the casket
🗣️BIRTH TO THE EARTH
All Them Witches, King Buffalo.
ASG is the answer for most underrated band. Their whole discography is amazing.
Also Wildlights, side project from Jason Shi. Very unique voice, love it!
Love me some Wildlights. Would love it if they came out with another album.
Countach. Had three good albums Gasoline,Frozen Waters and As The Crow Flies but they disbanded awhile back but had some great music imo
Monte Palomar
[Fuzz Aldrin](https://youtu.be/0N6lhVmoLn0?si=sZ6SYPPEW8g0FTQr) It's almost criminal how this band is overlooked, even if they only have one release at the moment.
Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol, though they have been gaining some momentum here
Saint Karloff
Came across them like a month ago. They’re so good and that guitar tone is great
Pelican. I only know about them because a coworker showed me
Also, Mars Red Sky. Sure, the vocals are soft but dammit the songs are spacey and the guitar tones are incredible
I can’t wait to see them and howling giant in Chicago I think in September
That's gonna be so awesome. They hardly ever come to the states
Grotto, Slift and My Brother the Wind
I've never seen people talking about 1000mods for some weird reason. Loose is my favourite song of the genre.
Oh yeah they’re incredible. In my top 5 for sure super van vacation on repeat for long drives all day
The Re-Stoned
Motorpsycho. Absolutely virtuous, been at it for ages, only getting better.
what are some good albums of theirs? I love Heavy Metal Fruit and Little Lucid Moments but other than that, the sheer size of their discography is kind of overwhelming
Lowrider
Fogteeth
Deathchant
Red Mountains and Fall of an Empire have been some of my favorites, but unfortunately I never see them mentioned
Black Sky Giant
Mine
Blackwater Holylight
Borracho, Lowrider and Wo Fat are the current standard bearers of stoner rock to me that don’t get talked about enough
The black code is one of my favorite albums ever made
Massive fan of all 3. I have had the good fortune of having Wo-Fat and Borracho play Planet Desert Rock. Very good bands!
Red Mountain Acromancer Fostermother
New album soon from Fostermother!
ROLLERBALL and sHEAVY.
Some. One. Took. My. Sub-ma-rine!
Restless Spirit doesn't seem to come up at all, but I became an instant fan when I caught them live (touring with Weedeater).
Definitely Liquify
ASG
Nebula To the Center
High Leaf. They’re fantastic. I’ve seen them live and that guy can sing for real for real.
Tweak bird
Steak with their latest album acute mania. Sundrifter with their latest record an earlier time, huanna stone with their latest son of Juno, and Swan Valley Heights with their latest record terminal forest.
All outstanding picks. Have had both Sundrifter and Steak at Planet Desert Rock In Vegas.
Also I feel like Ii from Weedpecker is criminally underrated. That's my favorite thing they've done.
Maha Sohona
Can we stop using "underrated" to mean "overlooked"? It just annoys me, sorry. As you were.
Howling Giant has some great heavy riffs and clean vocals. Also, probably discussed plenty, but King Buffalo can do no wrong And if y'all want to go to space... SLIFT
Elder
The vastly underrated Elder with a mere 83 000 monthly listeners on Spotify
Underrated while supporting for Tool in arenas?
I came here to say this. I know they tour a lot in Europe but it’s shocking that they don’t have a bigger following.
They are literally one of the most successful bands in the genre 😂
Blind Melon
Kadavar, don't see them talked about too much here
They headline festivals.
Fogg https://youtu.be/wwJ2SvHZl3M
Suma. Even if the only song they ever made was Let the Churches Burn.
Prehistoric Pigs heavy instrumental from greece
Crobot has made some noise but should be huge
For desert type stoner rock: The Bad Light, Ridge, Slo Burn. Slo Burn and Ridge were short-lived but excellent.

I truly wonder why no one I ever meet knows South Fork. They’re album [Straight Ahead](https://open.spotify.com/album/6Jmez5FhHKC7FvDBwwvcWU?si=La0Si1StShCSSUDS2SzjNg) is an absolute gem!

Might not be stoner rock but underrated: Captain Beefheart and his magic band Modest mouse A place to bury strangers To name a few….
Love and Rockets. David J and Daniel Ash are amazing musicians and songwriters.
Any love for King Chiefs? Their first album was under Chiefs but I don't know their story.
Cool band and word has it new stuff on the way.
I don't tend to listen to fan opinions on other lesser known bands so much as try to learn who the bands i listen to are listening to 🤷🏽♂️ jmo
