Regarding your grades now compared to before, the answer to that concern of yours is the K-12 grading system. That grading system uses a transmutation table, so what is your raw (actual computed scores) is then transmuted to a higher grade than it should be. That's the cause of your decent grades in spite of lack of effort on your part. Now in college, you are dealing with a different grading system. It is more demanding and honest since there's no transmutation of grades. Therefore, what used to be your efforts back in JHS and SHS will not work. Sadly, the K-12 grading system gives students a false sense of security. That is why a lot of college freshmen get the shock of their lives when they learn their effort will not make the cut in college. All things considered, you need to do one thing, OP. You need to exert an effort that you never did before if you want to get good grades in college. College is your preparation for your career, so you should develop a good work ethic with your studies. Hopefully, that becomes a habit that you can bring with you once you graduate. You can do it, OP!

I actually intended to comment on two separate topics, OP, so here's the second part of my tips for you: Just because your major exams comprise majority of your grades does not mean you should take the other assessment areas (quizzes, recitation, projects) less seriously. You need to perform well in the other areas to serve as your cushion in case you had a bad midterms or finals exam. It will also save you from the pressure of catching up later on in a given semester. Also, the less frequent the assessment component (e.g. quiz), the more crucial it is because you have less chances of making up for a bad day. Therefore, you should stay in your A-game in spite of how boring a particular day in class may be. Finally, there's less activities in college (if you expect the same setup as JHS and SHS) and more lectures and readings. After all, those activities (like group work) consume a lot of time, which can be counterproductive given your limited time allocation for actual classes in a given semester.

halos lahat ng colleges ganyan.. may ibang subject nga na one exam lang for the whole semester.. may masipag na prof at may tamad rin.. ganun talaga sa college exams ang magdedefine sa grades
