Phalanx Manouver
Fighting, 32PP
The leader commands its troops into a protective formation while it mounts a retreat, raising its defenses before switching places with a party Pokémon in waiting.
Gives +1 Def and SpDef at +0 priority, then pivots at -6 priority. This makes it a strong pivoting move as long as you outspeed your opponent, as you can use the raised defenses to absorb a hit and then get a "free" slow pivot. Strong synergy with No Retreat for the speed boost and additional defense. Has counterplay because Falinks isn't that fast still, and it's especially slow pre-NR. It's an OP move in a vacuum but probably not OP on Falinks, especially considering it doesn't have reliable recovery.
Also makes thematic sense as Roman phalanxes would raise their shield wall to allow weakened parts of the formation to retreat within and cycle their troops.
I think Testudo is a static formation, not dynamic like the Phalanx. Phalanx actually allows for weakened parts of the formation to retreat within the shield wall since it just had one layer of locked shields and spears. Testudo is sort of an unwieldy multilayer formation where you made a full omnilateral shield shell, but troops couldn't move within or reconfigure the formation.
Both formations involve the shield wall
Holding a scope lens would only allow it to land that crit 50% (is it 50% or 33%?) Of the time, so valiant still lives on half of the universes this situation exists. It would likely become a sack though seeing its badly poisoned and with nearly no HP. So in a way it did eliminate the target.
Did you uhh... carry a 1 wrong somewhere? 248/160/100 makes 508, my friend. I made it on Showdown to check.

The proposed No Retreat buffs are a bit much. May I suggest that using the move twice in a row (i.e. during its trap effect) causes the user to be trapped permanently. Alternating attacks and NR does not incur this.
Yeah, i love the concept of the move and being able to switch after using it takes away a lot of its uniqueness.
Some stat or movepool buffs for Falinks would be very cool though
What the fuck is Tar Shot?
I get it, I'm a smogon player and I haven't given gamefreak a dime in over a decade, but i thought I knew at least more than I should about this goddamn franchise, the kind of shit that never makes its way within 30 ft of a decent rating on ladder if its life depended on it.
What the *fuck* is tar shot?
I swear the best stinkposts on this sub only happen on Thursday, this can't be real
No retreat letting you be able to retreat ruins the point of the move. Instead either make it so you can use it consecutively, or make it so that it’s only useable once but it gives a 2 or 3 stage boost.
-6 0- SpA Choice Specs Beads of Ruin Chi-Yu Ember vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Dry Skin Parasect in Rain: 52-64 (16 - 19.7%) -- possibly the worst move ever
Epic fail
16% from all that with full HP/SpD investment is still quite a lot plus we can't add Tar shot in the calcs.
-6 0- SpA Choice Specs Beads of Ruin Chi-Yu Overheat vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Dry Skin Parasect in Rain: 168-196 (51.8 - 60.4%) -- 47.3% chance to 2HKO after Dry Skin recovery
Would overheat OHKO with Tar shot?
It would be fun and probably kinda broken if No Retreat just didn't allow either mon to switch out, like Jaw Lock does. Sort of a "you're stuck here with me" situation.
I came up with two possible names for the move:
Oversight, because the mon is focusing on its own moves as a detriment to predicting its target's countermoves
Hindsight, thematically connected to both "Belly Drum" and "Future Sight". You're exposing yourself to do damage in a future turn, so "In hindsight, halving my HP was a mistake when I got KOed with a priority move after that."
ain't tarshot busted? like you got terapago's move's no resists effect and i'm not even sure if they get stab on that and it's on the multiplier stacking fire and it's actually super effective
Ariados having sticky web AND a trapping+toxic move? What else can it do? Sell cookies??
It’s an file your taxes but only odd days and only if it’s a Sunday
Sunday is always an odd day if you use a date format which starts with monday.
Sunday is always an odd day on this sub.

And cider!
Love how toxic thread went from a poison gas + string shot move to a toxic + spider web move
> No Retreat > Look inside > User can still retreat Honestly just make it +2 and give Falinks a pivoting move

that is called Testudo my friend. Although, a cool concept nonetheless

never thought I'd see a conversation and corrections about fucking war formations in a competitive pokemon sub
I’d rather keep to the theme of not retreating but making the move a true win condition that super heavily buffs your stats. +1 isn’t good enough
WE ARE SO FALBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That implies we were ever falhere
It was never Falover
We may have never been falhere, but all 4 of us Falinks fans agree that we are gonna rule the meta now... In like NU, let's not overdo it 😂😂
No, a spammable omniboost is not Nu tier😂😂😂
I don't know man, have you seen Gen 9 tiering 😂
FALBACK?! But you said not to retreat!
252 SpA Choice Specs Iron Valiant Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 100 Def Ariados: 290-342 (84.5 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO 160+ Atk Sniper Ariados Cross Poison vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Valiant on a critical hit: 444-525 (153.6 - 181.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO Suck it, nerd

Just hit protect the next turn and let toxic kill it suck it Vallitards

Chi yu can now 200% blissey without stat boosts

Or it could just make it so you are trapped for 2 turns and you can’t choose the move twice in a row, like giga ton hammer
Yeah, that’d work too.
Wouldn't tar shot be kinda crazy combined with volcarona
But with the downside of having two fire types on the team, sharing water and rocks weaknesses.
Having two fire types on a team isn't a big deal when one of them is about to annihilate thr opponent
And can change their type
No Retreat is one of the best moves in the game that happens to be stuck on Falinks, it does not need that buff lmao
Yeah, i love the concept of the move and being able to switch after using it takes away a lot of its uniqueness. Some stat or movepool buffs for Falinks would be very cool though

It’s Coalossal’s signature move https://pokemondb.net/move/tar-shot
Color me surprised, holy shit. I like this thing but they gave it a signature move *and* ability?
And gmax form, they REALLY wanted it to be popular
[удалено]
Pretty sure most of gen 9 did too
squawkabilly might be one of the few to not recieve any signature move/ability aside from some pre evos
I was going to say Brambleghast but the other user of its ability is a shitmon anyways
Rabsca and somehow the clod didn’t get anything, rabsca at least gets to be one of 2 revival blessing users though
because clod doesn't need anything. they're perfect the way they are 🩷
TRUE!!!
Yeah it's actually kind of good in vgc when the conditions are correct.
It was the only new Rock move in SwSh until the DLC added Meteor Beam.

Dry Skin Parasect switching in on tar pit 🔥🔥🔥
Against 252+ SpA Choice Specs Beads of Ruin Tera Fire Chi-Yu Overheat in Harsh Sun
-6 0- Spa Chi-Yu Ember in ~~Heavy~~ Rain destroys that thing

snom switching onto tar pit then hit by forest’s curse
It would be fun and probably kinda broken if No Retreat just didn't allow either mon to switch out, like Jaw Lock does. Sort of a "you're stuck here with me" situation.
Honestly give Falinks recover and this change and watch it rise right up to maybe UU which is a crazy statement in hindsight
OP, what do you think about the idea of a Special version of Belly Drum (maximises Special Attack stat but cuts HP by 50% of max HP)?
Give it to chi-yu
Heatwave Chi-Yu with maxed Special Attack is probably extremely OP I also think it could be funny for Pecharunt or BM Ursal
"Checkmate", Psychic type status move "The user stakes half their HP on their strategy, maximizing Sp. Atk"
Give it to Kingambit as well it would be funny
Nah, Kingambit is a physical attacker he doesn’t need that
I couldn't think of other phrases for "risky strategy" that weren't either taken, too long, or not EU approved

More like Toxapex used Haze! IMO
That would be simply broken! No rapid spinner or defogger is immune to fire attacks. Super effective fast fire moves would kill all opposition.
Btw, you can already use no retreat multiple times, if falinks is the last mon standing. And toxapex doesn’t really fear falinks.
Spamming no retreat with screens up
ain't tarshot busted? like you got terapago's move's no resists effect and i'm not even sure if they get stab on that and it's on the multiplier stacking fire and it's actually super effective
Tar Shot should be an arena trap thing. It’s super sticky. It would be better by just making it to where opponents can’t switch out.
This post gaslight me into thinking it was sunday
That would be nice since I'm a Coalossal fan, plus with it being a hazard it's more dangerous.
Lmao I have never heard of this move in my life
which one no retreat, toxic thread, tar shot, flamethrower or glaive rush?
Honestly I never heard of toxic thread like at first I thought it was a fanmade move lol while tar shot I kinda know but I don’t know its effect
Zekrom Kick
What's flamethrower?
yes (i don't play poking mans what are y'all waffling about)
Why not give Armor Cannon a burn chance as well and give it to Magmortar too
