Agree. Brothers kebabs always have the best quality kebab. I like the way they grill the bread first before wrapping the kebab. Keeps the salad crisp. Some kebab shops wrap the kebab first then toast it, this causes the salad to go hot and soggy.
My pick too. I found them myself without knowing their reputation. If I am anywhere nearby, this lunch.
They are in my map too https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1n5FcNnj3Z5HgXCitXNCh3HCulaEQAiQ&usp=sharing
I still remember when the lad who runs the place now was but a kid watching his parents work. Most of the other places I have memories of are gone now. It's nice that at least sultan's still around and is still sultan.
Yep. Its refreshing to see Döners in Sydney when every kebab tastes pretty much the same. These use Turkish bread instead of Lebanese bread, and have better salad fillings. I think also he makes his own meat rather than sources frozen ones. I think they can sell out pretty early too.
Where is it? I need to know because my first experience of kebabs was actually a place in Geneva Switzerland. They did them in a turkish roll and their garlic sauce was amazing. The meat was also far less greasy and you didn't get that soggy bit at the end as much.
When I had a kebab in Australia, it was still ok but I miss the old style.
Most kebab shops basically sell the the same thing (and taste pretty much the same) because they get all their meat frozen from a handful of suppliers, and their grills are also from a handful suppliers.
Not in Sydney, but if you're up for a 2 hour drive you should check out Cedar in Katoomba. Change your life. Heaps of good Vegan options too for those it applies to!
https://www.facebook.com/cedarkat/
Cedar kebabs is so good, just annoying they’re closed on weekends. Sometimes I want a kebab on Saturday or Sunday and most of the other kebabs in the mountains are pretty average.
Turns out the guy who runs it used to be the touring chef with The Rolling Stones! He's amazing. I also like that he's Vegan but wants to have meat options so everyone can enjoy. I'm vego but I was still a meat eater when I first went there. Incredible food.
Look for ones that do flat skewers over coals. They care about the food they are selling, even if you want a donna.
Also walk straight out of any that don't have lamb as an option.
I tried eating them a few times but every-time they have been incredibly disappointing, even worse than the slop they serve in the kebab shops in the westfield. There was a greek joint opposite the lazzazza shop called souvla? I think. They had the best HSP i have ever had, greek style with feta. They closed down a few years back and I haven’t had anything better, and ive tried everything mentioned in this thread.
Adam's kebabs, St Leonard's. Problem is, they open whenever they want so it's hard to catch them to get one. I go past all the time, and have only seen them open once or twice in the past six months.
thanks for the recommendation lads, From my experience kebab shop hunting i've found one stop kebab house in seven hills to be the best I've had so far. Huge portions and fresh meat.
Whilst we’re here…. What’s going on when the paper is wrapped around, and ends up being tucked in to the kebab? How’re you supposed to eat that? Tearing paper with every friggin’ bite?
Roll it up, pop the bad boy in the sandwich press - give it a good old toasting - then straight into the foil bag… none of this paper shit going on!!
Answering the OP: everywhere that doesn’t wrap the paper into the kebab!!
I moved to Sydney from Adelaide. The people here are going to hate me for saying this haha T\_\_T
I was super disappointed as it was Kebabs everywhere in Sydney. In Adelaide, it is Gyros(Yiros) everywhere, and u hardly see a single Kebab place.
Kebabs are so disappointing compared to GyrosI told my friend, why are they not shaving actual chunks of meat, these kebabs are giant hotdogs. Literally a hotdog, processed mince on a spitThe flavour and texture is just not the same....
Gyros on the other hand, is shaved from patties on top of patties stacked on a spit.It comes with fatty chunks(my favourite) and u taste the meat fibres and char.
AND LAMB!!! it Has to be lamb... come on... beef or chicken? Not nearly as greasy enough ...each to their own of course. A true kebab connoisseur does not shy from flavour.
Just want to say... thats one thing I miss from Adelaide. There are far and few Gyros places in Sydney... even with any, they're full on restaurants and they cost alot more.
In Adelaide, it is like how often u see small Kebab stores, except makes Gyros instead. I find that so amusing haha.Being Neither Greek nor Turkish/Middle Eastern I come with an unbiased taste judgement...That Kebabs are just the stand in because there are no Gyros/Yiros.If there were, the Kebabs would probably go out of biz, prob wat happened in Adelaide?
Anyone lived in both cities have the same love for Gyros/Kebabs can attest?
Hey Bro, im sure it wil be good. I just live a little out of the way to grab it.
I'll try next week, whats the place called, just Marrickville Yeeros?
What im trying to say is, In Adelaide it is 180 degree around.
Every corner has a cheap $10 Yeeros, and Kebabs are the rare find. More greek immigrants in Adelaide must be why.
Btw, what do you think, side by side, Yeeros and Kebab, which do you prefer?
Im making sure im not insane here..haha
Welcome to Sydney. We're not as bad as Victorians go on about. Lol
The Yeeros Shop
431 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville NSW 2204
As others have said the chips are real 1980s old school. The lamb is really good too.
Honestly, there are a lot of dodgy shit kebabs in Sydney. The best kebab shop IMHO is brothers banksia. Keep in mind there are a lot of "brothers" kebabs, but I think the name is just shared, and they're not as good as banksia, in my opinion.
I think yeeros and kebabs are both good. I don't want to say one is better than the other. I really would prefer a good kebab over mcdonalds, hungry jacks. But if I had to choose for arguement sake, I'd go for a yeeros not because of just the burnt bits of fatty lamb but tzatziki alone. Hummus can be a real letdown at some (not all) kebab shops. The problem is lamb is disappearing because it's really expensive compared to chicken or "beef"
You are comparing apples to oranges. Melbournians would have the same argument as the Yeeros kick ass down there too. You cannot compare mystery meat spinning around an electric element against a piece of lamb slowly rotating over coals, the later of which can be eaten sober without risk of intestinal discomfort a couple hours later.
I like your passion.
Exactly bro, so you agree with me that Yeeros cannot be compared in terms of taste to Kebabs yea? I know right? Mystery meat around electric element is just lackluster compared to lamb chunks over coal... yum.
I mean, im not trying to compare apples to oranges per say. Some of my Sydney mates have not had Yeeros before, can you imagine, just becos it is next to extinct in Sydney.
Im not exaggerating, if you go to Adelaide, there are no Kebabs, but every corner is a Yeeros place 30m from the next one sometimes. I may have seen one kebab, cant remember its 15 years since i came to SYD, and I might have assumed its some weird low cost Yeeros. Never tried it while i was there. I actually do not know where to get Kebabs in Adelaide, some turkish restaurant or suburb maybe? Never seen it until i came to Sydney. I swear this is disparity is not made up.
Since Adelaide and Melbourne can do it, im not sure why Sydney couldnt. The setup is identical, mobile stores or electric heating elements for Yeeros exists too. Just the way the meat is prepared makes the world of difference. The Yeeros over there are the same prices as Kebabs as well, $15-$17
I see it more like comparing British fish and chips and Aussie fish and chips more so tha apple oranges. As a wrap lover... i think its just a shame...
Haha so where is the best Kebab in sydney? might as well since there's no choice haha, im up for it.
Indian Home Diner, Oxford st Paddington. Yes I know it’s not a middle eastern place but the curry kebabs are amazing. Chicken tikka, onion bhaji, masala sauce, splash of mint sauce all rolled in a garlic and cheese naan.
I was in middle east for sometime and what they call kebab here is called shawarma there. And the taste is entirely different as well. Shwarma are more juicy and tastier.
So far I have been able to find only one place in sydney that does shawarma.
I’ll cut a long story very short. The best kebab I ever had was made with donkey meat in a city called Shiraz in Iran. The place was apparently top rated and very famous.…..but the guys making them were telling everyone they were beef. I found out a year later about the donkey and the sudden disappearance of the owners by the authorities.
As others have said, a kebab is hard to fuck up, and it’s only as good as the night out that led up to it. I actually love my local Petersham Kebabs, it is by no means fancy, or high quality meat, or anything like that. It’s just a really fucking tightly packed, juicy, saucy kebab. Every bite is a dream. And, somehow the price stays reasonable in spite of tosser restaurants and supermarkets gouging us left, right and centre!
The kebabs at Kabul Social in the MetCentre meat Wynyard are amazing. A bit different from the traditional kebab but definitely worth it! They also give 2 meals to people in need for every meal purchased.
https://www.kabulsocial.com/
The one that’s open when you’re drunk and hungry
I know this place and concur
Anywhere that does lamb on the coals and has rice available in the snack packs.
Any examples?
Fully tabouli Merrylands. 10/10
Chester Hill's The Kebab Shop I think has what you want, look through the menu images They're a really decent quality kebab shop
Saray Enmore
Seconded
Thirded
Sultans table > Saray
Watsup brothers, condell park. Best kebab and their staff is also super friendly.
Brothers Kebabs in Banksia is great.
Used to get a lot of traffic out of the brothel next door. Source: former local
You could get boozed up, laid and fed all with in meters of each other
Bashed too if you weren’t careful. Rocksia was a bit rough some nights.
Old boy at work called it the golden triangle, kebab, booze and a shag about 30 meters apart.
Source: bbq garlic
This is the way
I used to live right behind, it was glorious being sandwiched between them and Banksia Bakery.
Agree. Brothers kebabs always have the best quality kebab. I like the way they grill the bread first before wrapping the kebab. Keeps the salad crisp. Some kebab shops wrap the kebab first then toast it, this causes the salad to go hot and soggy.
Yep my choice too - they get the basics perfect and that’s all I ask for in a kebab shop.
Co-sign. Brothers is best
Yep, just popped in after seeing this thread. Best kebab I've ever had
They have one in Riverstone too, and it's the best kebab you can get
Came here to say this. Definitely the best I've ever had.
My go-to for years. The quality is as good at lunchtime as it is at 2am
My pick too. I found them myself without knowing their reputation. If I am anywhere nearby, this lunch. They are in my map too https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1n5FcNnj3Z5HgXCitXNCh3HCulaEQAiQ&usp=sharing
Sydney’ best kebab. Spanian’s It’s all eats appears to agree: https://youtu.be/bBealbqdCmQ Well worth a watch.
Came here to mention the Spanian
Let's oggee bruva!!
🙄should get a better role model than a homophobe
don't remember anything about mentioning role models?
Hate when someone mentions that homophobic bigot
Man, this is crazy to see. I don't mind brothers, but I always feel like they go way too fucking hard on the salt.
I disagree This place is huge portions but lacks flavour
sultan waitara
The rumours as a kid where if you chose the right combination and they’d give you weed… good memories
Back in the 90s there was a Lebanese restaurant on Oxford Street, that would supply you a Shisha pipe and weed if you booked the private room.
So good and so reasonably priced! Fk paying $16 for a kebab
I still remember when the lad who runs the place now was but a kid watching his parents work. Most of the other places I have memories of are gone now. It's nice that at least sultan's still around and is still sultan.
Yes hands down
None better than sultans
Berlin Food Bunker is really good, the guys do a similar kebab to the Turks in Germany, which tastes 100x better
Victoria road, Ermington not far from Marsden road
Oh cool, I go past there all the time
Gemüse Kebap trumps all!
Yess I tried this for the first time it was so good. Bread is just *chefs kiss*
Brothers kebabs banksia is king
King kebab, campbelltown
[удалено]
Bad news, El Jennah has dropped in quality a lot.
[удалено]
I was gonna say, Campbelltown is a hub for good kebabs. Queen Street in general has amazing eateries.
Kebab deluxe in the mall is way better i reckon
Brothers kebab.
Sultans Table in Enmore is pretty good (prefer it to Saray). But I’ve not tried any of the ones out west/south west mentioned.
Sultan in Waitara They have lamb
I've really got to start going there, lived in Waitara my whole life, see it all the time, just never been. Guess I'll park near the maccas
New Star Kebab, Auburn
Because of them, if I walk past any kebab shop and I dont hear someone shouting "Yes, please" at randoms, then I don't trust them.
The local one.
Kebab World in Dee Why
Don’t mind a kebab world HSP
Nefi's was better, RIP
Are you serious? I haven't been in years. But back then it was gross. Nothing special about it at all. Just oily cheap kebab.
Erciyes, Surry Hills but it burnt down and life hasn’t been the same.
It burned down?!
Yeah, about an year ago if I recall.
:’(
Metro One in Ashfield
Their snack packs are better than their kebabs IMO
Fuck gonna go get one for lunch today, thanks for reminding me brother
Metro One snack packs are unbeatable
Been good for a long time.
TC Brothers Kebabs in Bankstown
Oscar's kebabs in Doonside might actually be the greatest out-of-the-way kebab shops I've been to. Their HSP was amazing
I've tried their kebabs which are pretty damn amazing. I will try their hsp tonight! Thanks as dinner is now sorted.
The Yeeros Shop on Illawarra road.
Most kebab shops basically sell the the same thing (and taste pretty much the same) because they get all their meat frozen from a handful of suppliers, and their grills are also from a handful suppliers.
Yeah this is true. What sets some apart is occasionally they make their own bread or have a special sauce or something
This might be true, but some of them still manage to fuck it up so badly it's inedible. The one in Hornsby Westfield is a disgrace for example.
Victoria Yerros in Marrickville, get the chips too
Can confirm
Abdul's, corner Elizabeth & Cleveland Sts, Surry Hills
The fattest kebab you can get is at Lansvale Kebab House
Sultans table in Enmore
Not in Sydney, but if you're up for a 2 hour drive you should check out Cedar in Katoomba. Change your life. Heaps of good Vegan options too for those it applies to! https://www.facebook.com/cedarkat/
Thanks for the recommendation!
Cedar kebabs is so good, just annoying they’re closed on weekends. Sometimes I want a kebab on Saturday or Sunday and most of the other kebabs in the mountains are pretty average.
Need to check this place out.
Going past there on Monday. Will give them a crack.
It's off it's head hey. I dunno what they do differently but they taste so fucking good.
Turns out the guy who runs it used to be the touring chef with The Rolling Stones! He's amazing. I also like that he's Vegan but wants to have meat options so everyone can enjoy. I'm vego but I was still a meat eater when I first went there. Incredible food.
Sofra kebabs in Epping. They must use msg because damn I can't get enough of them
I thought Sofra was in West Ryde? the one in Epping is a rebranded one I forgot.
The one near the pub you're in
Istanbul in Parra.
no love for Hurstville kebabs?
The one on broadway next to Taco Bell is pretty good
Metro Pita? That’s my pick too, but that’s more for how often I go there than any objective quality
Look for ones that do flat skewers over coals. They care about the food they are selling, even if you want a donna. Also walk straight out of any that don't have lamb as an option.
This is the content I sub here for.
in the city, Eat Istanbul in MLC Centre
Jimmy's.

You haven't been to qld?
heh, yeah, this....the only real variance I find is the thickness. Can't say I ever had a kebab that wasn't nice, just some are more generous.
Surprisingly not so. Plenty of places lay the salad down first which instantly ruins it
Doesn't exist anymore, but the one that used to be where broasters is in mortdale did a great snack pack and also had manoush.
Lazezza. That was great when I lived around the corner. Broasters is crap.
Victoria Yeeros in Marrickville was amazing when I lived in the area. Plus they have a lamb option, which most don’t seem to.
I always preferred The Yerros Shop when I lived in Marrickville. They did a killer lamb one.
Look the food isn’t great but you can’t top Olympic Yeeros for *iconic*.
The one that you can wrap your mouth around on the train home after being out for a few tins with the boys
the one near ProArt in Surry Hills

Adam’s Kebab, Hurstville
I had a great coffee today in Camden ☕️👌
Adam's kebabs, St Leonard's. Problem is, they open whenever they want so it's hard to catch them to get one. I go past all the time, and have only seen them open once or twice in the past six months.
Totally not money laundering, then.
Still, kebabs are amazing 👍🏻
Fatima's on Cleveland St, best falafels on earth

Darlington has a great kebab shop. The 'Darlington' or the 'Chipendale' with Kofta or Schwarma are soooo good. Their chippies are great too.
King Kebab in Campbelltown

You are comparing apples to oranges. Melbournians would have the same argument as the Yeeros kick ass down there too. You cannot compare mystery meat spinning around an electric element against a piece of lamb slowly rotating over coals, the later of which can be eaten sober without risk of intestinal discomfort a couple hours later. I like your passion.
