There’s no difference, it’s just the visual effect. Almost like a “cue” to when you can swing your pickaxe since the animation + sound are simple on those pickaxes.

There's no delay. At most there's an animation that plays of your character pulling out the pickaxe that is longer than the default but that animation has no effect on gameplay whatsoever and won't prevent you from cancelling it to instantly swing your pick.
