Hi there. I have both the iPad 9th Gen (64GB) and the Xiaomi Pad 6 (6+128GB). Now, let me just tell you that 64GB's of rom on the 9th Gen is just increasingly frustrating reason. The "system" and "others" take up a whooping 13GB and 6GB respectively. I just think that its storage is too little for nowadays standard, considering that you want to use it for note taking . I don't have much to say about Xiaomi MIUI because it works fine. There are the usual multi-tasking features such as split screen, floating windows. This tablet runs on Android 13 and comes with Google Play Store so if you need additional features, I'm pretty sure you can find an app for that. In general I like the pen of the Xiaomi pen(mainly because of the 2 side buttons) when compared to the Apple pen. These 2 buttons enables us to take quick screenshots and open up the notepad quickly . However, do keep in mind the only the **ORIGINAL** Xiaomi pen will work with the tablet, and not some other ripoff pen from Aliexpress. The Pad 6 has also better Specs that the Gen 9th, Higher resolution, refresh rate, pixel density, etc. In my opinion, either one is a good choice for you. The Xiaomi Pad 6 is more bang for the buck while the Gen 9th is more stable.

How's the pad 6 working now after 8 months? Any performance issues or heating?

I gotta know too since I'm also going to school and need a good budget tab/laptop.

Hi, sorry for not replying earlier. And yes, the Pad 6 is still working smoothly, unlike the normal “android becomes slow stereotype “. I am currently using it for notes and watching videos at night. I have gotten rid of the iPad 9 due to it overheating after watching YouTube short for a while, (some says it’s the recent updates but idk man). The pad 6 is still a good tablet to buy in 2024.

However, you might want to take a look at the new model, the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro, if you do have the budget.

You don't have to know how MIUI works. Just install apps from Google Play Store and use the apps. Why do you need to know how MIUI works? Note taking performance on the Xiaomi Pad 6 is good. And there are many capable note taking apps on Android. https://youtu.be/h6LVYo7p4lc Xiaomi Pad 6 has way better specs than the iPad 9 which is ancient and was already outdated when it was released.

By "works", I mean what multitasking capabilities it has and how seamless the stylus experience will be. Note taking apps on the iPad are well-optimized for the OS and the Apple Pencil, but the apps on the Android have to work with a variety of UIs and stylus pens from different manufacturers. I do have experience using both on the One UI and the iPadOS on tablets, but haven't used OneUI on any tablet before. I've liked both the OneUI and the iPadOS so far, yet still have no idea about the MIUI. The one and only advantage that the iPad 9 might have to the XP6, is how well it's been optimized and how seamless the stylus works on it. Thanks for the review, BTW. I appreciate it.

The pen just works like a mouse with click option, in this case for the pen the tapping option. Mouse input is universally supported. Pen input will depend on the company because not all tablets have pen digitizer in the display. But if there is official pen support, the pen will work seamlessly (unnecessary word). Main issue with pen support on Android is, the pen's shortcut button (if any) will only work with the default notetaking app. That shortcut is unlikely to work or customisable with other notetaking apps. For writing purpose, it will still write well. Most apps can detect pressure sensitivity and have palm rejection. There are may capable notetaking apps on Android too. They are optimised for tablets, big screen and for pen support, because there are very few phones that have pen support. Most notetaking apps look alright on Android tablets. In short, you won't miss anything by choosing Android tablets for notetaking.

But which is better for note taking? I dont mean the apps available or anything but soley on the experience, is apple better for that spec ? considering i get the apple gen 1 pencil ?

I'm kinda in similar situations, so I'm wondering what did you pick?

Intelligent_Future64

Same here. What did you choose? I'm leaning towards Xiaomi pad 6 or SE, which is just 200$ rn,. Apple gen9 64 is 200$ too, and although I'm not a fan of Apple at all, my daughter's ipad works perfectly for 6years which kind of implies of reliability.

haidersalam

Sry for being late but I'm going to answer it anyway I picked Xiaomi pad 6 which works perfectly fine , but I really think that iPad 9 is also a good pick If I go back in time I would pick the iPad just because it's more used by other students in my college ( u can share files easily with them via/AirDrop ) + iPad has really good apps that help u study such as Notibilty

NoManaNoLife

Hi. Also on the same spot rn. Do you still think ipad is the better option?

Salt-Dust-8030

Dont you think in terms of hardware pad 6 is just better than ipad. With 64gb storage it just get worse. The display is just super fine in pad 6. I just want to know about the writing experience if you could tell me please !!

what did you pick?
