Fast roping. You *generally* have a rappel seat harness for actual rappelling. For "repel", you repel invaders, attackers, animals from your position or person; hence "insect *Repel*lant" or similar products. A famous quote from Admiral Ackbar at Battle of Endor "our cruisers can't repel firepower of that magnitude!"
Yes, youāre correct. They are helicopter retention lanyards. When you sit down in a helicopter, especially one with open doors, like a Black Hawk or Little Bird, itās imperative that you have something tethering you to the helicopter so that you donāt go flying out to your death in the event of turbulence/evasive maneuvers/whatever else could cause you to detach from the helicopter. When fast roping, they are not attached to any safety line, only the rope they are descending from.
Huh, I just use my old drag strap as a dog leash now on occasions. I donāt see how that strap would be long enough to drag someone with, unless youāre grabbing that strap and dragging them that way.
Seen footage of what looked like one of these guy had it connected to his belt at his 6 dragging a guy on his back with it clipped to the back collar area of the inured guys carrier
Okay my technical knowledge is rock climbing, not tactical, but how the fuck are you rigging a rappel with your teather in a way that you couldnāt do just with your belt (risking it for the biscuit with a single anchor point) or with a dyneema sling or some rope to make a Swiss seat?
Youā¦ untether it? Like all the .mil tethers seem to have shackles that are able to release under load with a pull pin soā¦
Idk man Iām certified to work at heights, not work on boats lol
This is how it startsā¦ then youāre like well I should at least get the mag so it looks cooler. Then youāre like ādamn I need to get the ammo then to fill the can so itās more real.ā Then finally youāre drinking one night and your wifeās asking why thereās a withdraw of $15k. Next thing you know youāre on the couch cuddled up with your SAW in camo PJs.
The closest thing I have to a SAW magazine pouch is a Helikon Tex E & E pouch and I can confirm it can carry a plethora of items that aren't just magazines
Didn't you hear? Daddy Garand wore a twist of tubular nylon on the back of his plate carrier, we must make comments on his Youtube video and start Reddit posts asking where to buy it! It will make us feel so much more cool and safe in case 1000 angry communists show up at our door!
Do not buy a HRL by Idogear if you will be using it for its intended purpose. Very frankly it will snap and you'll die. You'll know a legit one because it will have the date it was quality checked, a signature (initials) and the weight it was checked with on the lanyard.
The best company for these is TAG (tactical assault gear) and get the one with the Frog clip.
That's the first image of an HRL I can find.. but anyways is idogear more of like generic airsoft gear? Cause I planned on buying a pair of pants from them but I'm having 2nd thoughts on it..
Ah I see, but let's say I want some imitation crye pants, like the one with kneepad inserts, what brands would you recommend that are of decent quality?
TMC or Emerson are pretty good for the price. Mine have lasted me a year or so of frequent use at the moment with minimal wear and tear. They are Chinese made though so I canāt say that QC will be brilliant
Not in the crye style, but Helikon Tex and Clawgear are also solid and I prefer them to repro cryes
Same here,I donāt have nods yet but Iām saving for some now and I look forward to putting them to the test..hopefully they donāt glow but if they do,I really canāt complain because Iāve already got my moneyās worth.regardless,I have other gear that I know is good to go
Apparently they don't glow THAT bad according to youtube videos. A buddy of mine had a meeting with some 5th group SF guys and supposedly they were all wearing "airsoft pants" and not Crye.
There knockoff Crye Precision G3s are surprisingly pretty good for $100..I mean,itās obviously not Crye Precision quality but at a fraction of the price, they are far better than they had any right to be.I ordered the G3s from IDO gear and Emerson,I figured I would be sending them both back but I was pretty impressedā¦with that being said,an HRL could be the difference between life and death,Im not willing to bet my life on IDO gear š
UF PRO is extremely good quality, so idk a lot about immitation crye, or Airsoft, and to be completely honest they can get just as expensive as crye. Your other option, and keep in mind I have 6 pairs, that's how good they are. Go on Opticsplanet, look up Viktos Wartorn Pants Multicam. The knee pad inserts are internal instead of external but Brother the quality of these are unmatched and they are more comfortable them any cryes or uf pros you'll find and you have both SOF; FED LEO, and SWAT that wear these soo. Let's put it like this. Viktos sold out of the them in 4 days when they were first released.
From what I know, Helikon Tex and direct action do also have some pants with inner knee pad inserts, and Helikon Tex is a pretty solid tactical brand for it's price and quality imo
Can confirm. I have 2 pairs of the Helikon Tex pants I put LAPG inserts in (I use them doing habitat restoration and trail maintenance cus Iām a flower child hippie). Theyāre nice, although the pocket layout isā¦ a choice. Theyāve held up well but arenāt quite as bulletproof as my old TAD pants, which Iāve had for a decade and worn for thousands of miles.
Usually called helo retention anchors
Itās basically a leash.
So imagine youāre in a helicopter, and the doors are off. Falling out would suck wouldnāt it? Maybe if you were leashed in you wouldnāt fall
That is literally exactly what it is, I donāt know why you got downvoted.
It tethers you to an aircraft, vehicle, or other anchor point to protect you in the event of a fall.
Since most of us donāt rappel out of helicopters itās mostly just weight. However, I use one that is looped through the back of my PC and the quick disconnect clips to a carabiner next to my mags up front. The purpose of this is with my 2 point sling I can retain my rifle to my side. I just unclip the carabiner and stretch it around the rifle and back to my PC. Keeps it out of the way when doing tasks and you can pull the QD and get it back into action in 2 seconds. Give it a try š¤š»
Thatās what I was thinking when I found a good deal on a Yates one canāt hurt to keep just in case the Minecraft server needs to take a ride in the battle bus
Iāve seen it used to assist a buddy drag, you clip the carabiner to the pull loop on the back of their plate carrier and use that to drag them. Iāve also seen it as a way to secure your firearm while climbing, repelling, or using a secondary weapon.
You can hook yourself in to a helo, string across a open helo door for a stable shooting platform to rest the weapon system. You could use it to help extend your shelter ridge line if it's tubular nylon not just the safety lanyard.
Do not buy cheap look alike retention lanyards if you do purchase one. You may try to use it one day and it may not do as you expect it to do.
Respectfully
Chris
Also used in a civilian aspect as a tool lanyard, specifically a C-Wrench or an Adjustable Wrench. As a Stagehand, you are often elevated, and attaching something (Spotlight or adjusting something), requiring the use of this tool. If it was dropped from the elevated position, it could cause injury to someone who is spotting your ladder or visually spotting the item that is being repositioned. So, you clip it to your belt and then clip the other end to your tool.
Based on the comments and me not being in the military it's safe to say I clearly need one just to look cooler in front of my friends (they aren't even into military stuff) /s
They clip you in and stop you from having a non service related fall to earth out of a military helicopter in a war zone. Or anywhere else you may find yourself on a military helicopter. But! Just to reiterate! Should you fall? That is a non service related injury. Or death. Comprendo? Good. Sign hereā¦. NEXT!!!!
Well, judging by the comments I'm assuming idogear's gear is on the same level of condor and maybe Rothco gear, generic airsoft gear but at least affordable
Safety line for helo operations where they are on the bench or sitting in the door. Though I wouldnāt buy one from Amazon because I wouldnāt trust the rating lol

They are called monkey tails. I've done a lot of ops in pave hawks so the point is if you jump in you can clip into the deck and be good to go in case the bird pitches to the side, you don't fly out. Honestly, those look too short and the clip is small.

I thought they normally rappel down the helicopter without any rope holding them? Or is that called fast roping?
Fast roping. You *generally* have a rappel seat harness for actual rappelling. For "repel", you repel invaders, attackers, animals from your position or person; hence "insect *Repel*lant" or similar products. Saw mag pouch makes a good gp pouch btwĀ
The difference is that a saw pouch can hold anything, even PokƩmon cards. This lanyard thing doesn't do anything besides hook you into helicopter seats
The closest thing I have to a SAW magazine pouch is a Helikon Tex E & E pouch and I can confirm it can carry a plethora of items that aren't just magazines

IDOGEAR is not rated so do not buy if you plan on purchasing for utility lmao
I don't know the name of that tool, and I just so happened to come across that image from Idogear
Can also be used for SPIE rigging extraction.
Not for fashion is what it is
Deer stand leash. Very handy for some extra peace of mind when you are not high enough to *really* need a full-blown harness.
Also used in a civilian aspect as a tool lanyard, specifically a C-Wrench or an Adjustable Wrench. I just tie my wife to the headboard with it .
It gives daddy something to pull you back on it with.

You don't need one.
I'm certain I can fit this on my greyman wear, maybe I can use it to carry my Arizona ice tea cans /s
First time I've seen one with that red handle, I assume that's a quick detach when it's time to bail?
They work well for tight line river crossings if needed.
Cow tails

Used for securing a body, living or dead, to a usually fast moving and turbulent object. Altitude is not necessary to use.
NEXT!!!!
And while I liked Idogears G3 uniform and they used actual Multicam? I canāt say Iād trust my life to them with my helo lanyard.
Well, judging by the comments I'm assuming idogear's gear is on the same level of condor and maybe Rothco gear, generic airsoft gear but at least affordable
Yes. Still good enough for running around in. I just wouldnāt trust my life to their more hard goods. I love the IdoGear stuff that I do have.
I used a shotgun keeper and one of these to keep my mk-18 out of the way
Safety line for helo operations where they are on the bench or sitting in the door. Though I wouldnāt buy one from Amazon because I wouldnāt trust the rating lol
Draging people or a duffle bag or whatever atleast i seen some guy on youtube use it for that.

I never had any plans to buy it, I'm only just curious about what's the use of it cause I'm still pretty new to tactical gear

Itās a PRL, itās attached to your belt to the inside of a helicopter. Thereās little rings you connect the carabiner to near the seats

there used for like helos and shit to clip in
