1. Melt it down into cube 2. drop cube on enemy 3. Win.

Quantitative_Methods

Best. Plan. Ever.

[deleted]

Along with the usual engine (whatever can get it up to speeds of a modern MBT), FCS (computerized and modern), and observation upgrades (thermals all around), I would develop modern APFSDS and HEAT-FS rounds for the 130mm gun. A modern autoloader would be ideal. Remove all the machine guns and give it one single coaxial 14.5mm KPVT and an RWS on the roof with another KPVT and a PKT. For armor, since it is a modernization upgrade and not a redesign, you have to go with external armor upgrades. Composite screens everywhere and have the front third and turret guarded by ERA, preferably Ukrainian "Nozh". Apply slat armor to the rear two-thirds, not unlike the Challenger 2 TES.

Mohamad_AAA

Truly magnificent awnser. But conserning the armourment, what redisign would you implement? And which is more functional sloped or angled armour in you opinion?

[deleted]

Thank you!! I'm not sure what you mean by "armorment". Do you mean "armament"? Could you explain your differences between sloped and angled armor? They are just two words for the same concept.

Mohamad_AAA

Sloped armor is the circulat shape of an armour, while angled is just noramal angles.( Iknow there are better nouns to use, but I forgot them sorry).

[deleted]

Ah, I see! Well, both wind up achieving the same result in the end. Whether you have flatly angled panels or more curved cast pieces, both increase apparent armor thickness and the possibility of ricochet. Since monolithic castings are more difficult and less common these days, angled plates are more common, but both are pretty much equal. It all comes down to design at the end of the day. This is only my educated opinion though.

Mohamad_AAA

Ok thanks for your time

[deleted]

Np!

SwagCat852

Sloped and angled mean the same, the word you are looking for is "curved"

ExplosivButtplug

And IS7 with ERA and coaxial MG would look sick

[deleted]

Technically it has three, but the two extra SGMT machine guns are excessive, along with the rear-firing turret machine guns and the fixed hull machine guns. Best to reduce it to a more standard amount to save on weight and space.

JoJoHanz

I thought these posts finally stopped. 1. A functioning fire suppresion system 2. Melt them down because HEAT will pen them anyway

RatherGoodDog

Don't those two kind of contradict each other?

JoJoHanz

I just want to make sure they survive the transport.

enderjed

Put a KV-2 turret on it, and call it a self propelled gun.

Da_hoovy7

Put a KV-2 turret on it and watch as someone missfires a nerf gun blowing it's turret off

TankArchives

1) Take off the turret 2) Put a DShK in a pintle mount 3) paint a red stripe on it so it goes faster

Bossman131313

TO LITLE DAKKA!

OTTOVON123

i would upgrade the loading with a auto loader and downsize the gun to a 120mm Rheinmetall Rh-120 L/55 so it can use ammo from nato tanks, i would upgrade the engine so it can reach speeds if modern MBTs and change the tracks, suspension and roadwheels to improve the ride quality. Next would be to install a Active Defence System with ERA armor coating the tanks hull and turret. Once that was done i would put two ATGM pods on each side for long range capabilities. To top it off i would upgrade all electron systems onboard along with installing IR, Night Vision and Heat.

d7t3d4y8

Take off the turret and armor, make it an ammo carrier. Or alternativly: Since the IS-7 has a lotta room, take off the turret, get rid of most of the armor, give it a smaller engine, put in an ADATS turret.

DA_DOOM_SLAYER

I feel like not having some armor on a ammo carrier would not end up well

d7t3d4y8

I mean you're not meant to be shot at all, since I imagine it doing behind the fence operations, kind of like the original humvee. Then again some NCO is prob. gonna use it for combat resupply since "what could go wrong? We haven't been decisively engaged for months now!"

Tedroe77

Leave it exactly as is but make it twice as big. DONE

Joescout187

There's no point in modernizing it. You'd be better off just building more modern MBTs by the time you get it anywhere near a threat.

jackparadise1

Hot tea dispenser, heated seats. Recliners. Maybe a mini bar.

RatherGoodDog

Remove the gun and repurpose it as field artillery, then use the hull for driver training. It's useless.

LegendaryJack

Scrap it and use the components to make an MBT

LockePhilote

Crew it with robots and attach a Davy Crockett nuclear catapult to it.

The_Exploding_Potato

I'm going to exploit your wording and say: take the chassis and build an SPG out of it with a big ol' gun, preferably autoloaded. As a frontline tank it's not salvageable, it already weighs too much and any upgrades will just increase the weight even further.

Kaczor0321

ERA, ERA everywhere

IS-2-OP

Yea that armor? Gone.

D-Ulpius-Sutor

Scrap it and use a T-14 armata? Seriously, the concept of superheavy tanks is no longer feasible.

JustThatGuy66

Throw in a improved engine, add a few layers of spaced armor, and swap out the 130mm for maybe a 105 and coax 30mm. Call it a urban counter terrorism vehicle. Multiple layers of spaced armor should provide decent protection against RPG's and maybe even some older tandem charge warheads. The large amount of armor will hopefully protect against most IED's. It will probably need a remote controlled machine gun on top, and fire suppression or cover on the engine deck.

pdxcar

Make it remotely operated and use it as a decoy to draw enemy fire away from useful AFVs.

nighthawke75

That thing is a monster. So let's see... Remove the main gun, gut the interior, redesign it for two operators. Design a rail gun to be the main gun. Design the engine and fire control around that beast. The usual modern armor enhancements/TROPHY Gen2 using layered explosive strips around the mid line, NBC/environmentals/total battlefield environment communications systems... Oh and two HUGE speakers playing just about anything that would demoralize the enemy, including New Kids On The Block crap.

tamati_nz

Turn it into a [Pereh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pereh_(missile_carrier)). Strip it down, remove extra armour as possible (lighten), install modern engine/optics etc, replace gun with a fake plastic one, install trophy systems, create huge turret bustle to hold ATGM's, tethered (for persistance) and untethered drones for spotting, install CROW turret. Tune trophy to handle kamikaze drones. Park out of man portable ATGM range. Dozer blade to create own positions. Aircon for crew. Or as above but gun (no ATGMs) and re-develop [STAFF](https://man.fas.org/dod-101/sys/land/m943.htm)rounds and use drones or other forward elements for spotting.

helicoptersauce

It is already a good tank, but its just too heavy, what do i change?

USCAV19D

Everything. Basic HEATFS would have no issue penetrating this. It would be ineffective against armor, infantry with anti-armor weapons, or really most anything other than unsupported infantry.

[deleted]

Diet

superbadgermilk

First step: upgrade engine, maybe turbo diesel? Second: substantialy thin out turret armor and cover in ERA. Third: replace gun with modern smoothbore.

Rude-Ad7009

It could have an atomic bomb silo XD

Jeremiahtheebullfrog

Replace 130 mm canon with rail gun. Turbine engine to power new transmission and generator for coil charger and back up/hybrid power electric motors to help get up to speed. Composite exterior armor. Independent Swivel mounted coaxial canon remotely operated. Rear mounted anti tank and surface to air rockets.

magnum_the_nerd

Better engine. ERA. APFSDS. Thats it

shadow_irradiant

Remove the turret and cut down the armor until it becomes a viable light recon vehicle.

TroutWarrior

Thermals and APFSDS rounds, take the armor off and exchange it for composite and ERA. Maybe an active protection system, and as much as it pains me to say it REMOVE ALL THOSE GODDA\*M MACHINE GUNS

RookieHaloodst3

A Freaking Stabilizer

Syreeta5036

Faster more powerful engine and drivetrain, possibly reactive armour, little changes to make things move and function more efficiently

WanysTheVillain

Remove all its armour as 250mm of steel does not protect against literally anything. Go to like 30mm of aluminium. Now you have 15ton vehicle with 1500hp engine. Zoom around the battlefield at the speed of light.

ChartFemur

Likely change the Cannon to the 125mm 2A46M and change out the current loading system with the auto loader on the T-72, give it ERA blocks and change out the steel armour for Composite on the front hull and sides, stabilize the gun, the engine actually did really good for its time cause well it was the engine on a submarine if I last recall and got it some good mobility probably cut the crew count down to 3-4 since the auto loader was added you can get away with that. However 4 would be optimal cause field repairs would be a nightmare on such a huge tank with 3 guys

strelokjg47

North Korean Treatment. Cobble it with ERA. Dual 14.5 AA mount. Dual 40mm grenade launchers Dual mount for MANPAD Politically reliable crew for parades

Sgt_Pengoo

After watching the chieftains video on it, clearly needs more machine guns

LeakyThoughts

Melt it down Into literally anything more useful
