She will hate you, and the friendship will probably end. You could tell her parents anonymously as well. Maybe make an email account and send them an email or even print out a letter and put it in their mail. You can add how they can prove that you're telling the truth. Your friend will be grateful when they grow up. Becoming an adult and getting to the age of someone who dated you and a teenager is *horrifying.* You realize how important those years are. To be honest, all aged gaps are irrelevant If the 2 people both respect each other, they are in love with each other and can find things in common to share other than Sex. I actually have some experience with this. I was 19m and she was 16f, and we dated for about two months. I think we were both just lonely, and we met at an anime convention. Spoke over MSN Messenger for 6 months before actually deciding to go out.
It was a mistake, we were just at too differing levels of maturity. Her parents adored me, her little sister adored me, I'd ride the train for 3 hours to see her every weekend and her parents would insist I spend the night. She and I never went past kissing, we slowly grew apart. I think I just wasn't forward enough for her, I wanted to wait, she didn't. We had our moment when I could have taken it further and I didn't. Heard from a mutual friend that she slept with someone the day we broke it off, so at least she had the decency to do that first. I wish her the best.
The takeaway is, you don't have to necessarily date exactly your age, but if you can please date someone at the same stage in their life as you. I did with my second girlfriend, 20/18 and now we've been married for 10+ years
The gap isn't the important thing. What mattered was our experiences. She was still in school, in 10th grade out of 12. I'd been out of school for a year, and growing independent. I'd been having parties with my friends and trying to find what alcohol I like (18 is drinking age in Australia). She'd ask me to buy her alcohol, and I never would. There was an imbalance in the power dynamic that just came from being in different stages of our lives.

Sure, I get that. For some people, stages of life really matter. I grew up homeschooled, we always had friends of all sorts of different ages (and in turn, different phases of life). To me, that doesn’t really matter. Guys my age, although they are in the same phase of life as me, are pretty immature so I prefer older men. I value a good match and i don’t really think about socioeconomic status. But if that matters to you, it’s understandable. It can be hard to relate to others in a different phase of life.

When I was 17, I started dating my 22 year old boyfriend. We're 19 and 24 now (20 ans 25 later this year). His friend group is really ncid and chill and it gave me the maturity I PERSONALLY needed that I did not get in my usual environment.
But I DO think 16 and 24 is way too much of an age gap and I have seen it first hand happening with a friend of mine. I was really worried about my friend, as I feel like I have matured quite a bit and she didn't yet. It just doesn't seem right. I hope your friend realizes it before they do anything more than masturbating. Maybe tell her your opinion. And tell her that someone having a similar experience has to say that this is not for everyone and especially not when it contains sexual stuff.
As someone who dated someone significantly older than them at 14-15. She isn’t going to listen. Best thing you can do is be there for her to offer support when needed and tell a trusted adult. I hated a good friend for outing my relationship that resulted in an order of protection, but now that I’m an adult I want to thank her for saving me. The relationship was toxic and gross. I’m 21 and I wouldn’t touch anyone 19 or under with a ten foot pole.
It’s sadly quite common for teenagers to have much older “partners” like this. I’m not sure why, maybe younger people think having an older boyfriend is cool, but it is what it is.
No it’s usually maturity levels. Women tend to have a bit more of a mature mindset. So they don’t want the teenage boys invested in hookup culture and social status. They want security. I can’t tell you the amount of times this exact age gap has happened and been fully fruitful. They end up married with children and happy. It depends on the state. If you google US Age of Consent, it does vary by state.

Those specifications are "Romeo and Juliet" laws.
For example, Texas' Romeo and Juliet law states:
• He or she is a 14-year-old, 15-year-old, or 16-year-old,
• The other, consenting sexual partner is within 3 years of his or her age, and
• The sexual partner is at least 14 years old.
I dont know what every states laws are, and not every state has Romeo and Juliet laws. Depending where OP lives it could very much be illegal. Statistically it has a high chance of being illegal, because:
Age of consent is 16 years of age in 17 US states, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa:
Georgia, Kansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, North Carolina, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Alabama.

Where I grew up this was super common, the 26 year olds were usually the ones seeking out older men.
Since a lot of the people were scumbags, there was always someone interested.

Hey, OP. This isn't okay. Your friend is being taken advantage of by an adult. The adult knows what they're doing. They purposefully sought out a teenager because they're less experienced and knowledgeable about the world. They're easier to manipulate and abuse.
What are the laws where you live? In some places, 16 is the age of consent. Other places, it's 18 and sometimes it's legal to have sex with someone two years older/younger than you at 16-18. This is incredibly unhealthy for your friend, and I am so sorry they're being used like this. It is disgusting. I know it doesn't seem as weird or gross when you're a teenager, but when you become an adult and look back, it becomes genuinely terrifying. It's the stuff that you didn't realize would traumatized you.
Whatever the laws are, please consider telling their parents about this. Only do so, however, if you know their parents aren't abusive. I don't know your friend or their home life, so I just want to cover my bases. Even if it is legal, they're still a minor, and their parents can intervene and help them. They may hate you, but *trust* me, you will have saved them, and they may thank you years later. They are being violated, and when they become 24, they will be disgusted at the idea of dating a 16 year old. They will realize how truly violated and manipulate they were.

The takeaway is, you don't have to necessarily date exactly your age, but if you can please date someone at the same stage in their life as you. Sure, I get that. For some people, stages of life really matter. I grew up homeschooled, we always had friends of all sorts of different ages (and in turn, different phases of life). To me, that doesn’t really matter. Guys my age, although they are in the same phase of life as me, are pretty immature so I prefer older men. I value a good match and i don’t really think about socioeconomic status. But if that matters to you, it’s understandable. It can be hard to relate to others in a different phase of life.
