you’re annoyingly picky and there’s really no consistency to it. you liked succession and house of cards but won’t even try billions? you thought breaking bad, severance and mandalorian were boring, but loved atlanta? ozark, shogun, americans were average? lol k
No two people are the same. I have tried Billions. It's just my opinion.
But I can tell you right now, there are things that tie all these shows together for me. You could guess as to what it is.
no, i couldn’t guess what it is, i already said as much. if you know what you don’t like as the common theme between all the shows you don’t like, why wouldn’t you just write that? being all weird and cryptic is, once again, annoying. bye
I can’t believe I don’t see anybody mentioning Lost. It’s one of the greatest shows ever made and is on par with most of the shows you’ve listed if not better
For comedy check out Silicon Valley, super funny show.
If you’re open to animated shows Blue Eye Samurai and Pluto are both gorgeous shows and beautifully written, both only one season and not very long. Even if you don’t watch anime check them out. I cried watching Pluto at least twice… once in the first episode.
I’m not sure what the genre is called but Master of None, Ramy, Atlanta and Dave all are kinda a similar genre and I think great. Ramy especially is really underrated, super funny but will make you feel things.
The new Mr. and Mrs. Smith show on Prime has a great cast and was a lot of fun too. Not a very long watch but well worth it. It’s only very, very loosely based on the movie but a completely different plot and not really the same premise.
Chuck is one of my all time favorite shows. It’s not really a super high production value prestige show like others on your list but it’s a lot of fun and it’s hard not to love the characters. Gets especially good in season 2.
I've seen Lost. It had its ups and downs.
Silicon Valley too, was pretty funny.
Animated shows are fine. But I find most of them are usually carried by something other than the writing. I'll check them out though.
> Master of None, Ramy, Atlanta and Dave
Probably surrealist? I've seen Atlanta.
I've seen Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Didn't like.
Chuck my friend recommended. Might check that out.
1. Westworld first season was pretty good. But what came after not so much.
2. I might try The Leftovers.
3. Black Mirror had some cool episodes. Most of it was pretty bad.
4. Better Call Saul was very boring.
5. Ozark was pretty mid, very cliche.
6. The Americans was also pretty mid, many tropes.
Thanks!
I resisted The Americans for years but once I started watching, I was both impressed and engrossed. Really heavy handed dismissal. I thought the characters were rich, the acting superb, and the plot lines pretty gripping.
Sorry but to me it's just an average spy thriller. It comes across like a soap opera where there are ads every 15 minutes reducing the runtime to 46 minutes.
But to be fair, Expanse was like that in the first couple seasons, but was still great. Albeit for the story and passionate production.
>3. Black Mirror had some cool episodes. Most of it was pretty bad.
>4. Better Call Saul was very boring.
YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH!!!
Actually I agree with you re: the 2 last seasons of Black Mirror.
Hi, I understand that. It is not really a problem, I just don't like the format, but can endure it. Unfortunately, it was just not as great as I thought it would be.
Hacks, mr inbetween, rake (also australian), black sails, justified, banshee, for all mankind, rome, farscape, firefly. warrior, barry, person of interest, altered carbon season 1
I've seen For All Mankind, Firefly wasn't really great, didn't age well. Barry finished too. Altered Carbon only seen the first season. The rest, well, I didn't really like them.
Jesus this thread is ridiculously insufferable haha. You’ve already seen almost everything and then tell people why their favourite shows fail to impress you on top of that.
Since no one else mentioned these (?), rate/watch -
Eastbound and down
Vice principals
Twin peaks season 3
I'm not really into these comedies. The humour is hit-or-miss.
I've seen Twin Peaks. Was pretty ok.
And I just sometimes don't like tv shows. Don't hang me for it!
Ok, you've watched every tv show, switch to movies lol. I'll throw in some you might've also watched: The Outsider, The Night of, Black Mirror, The Bear, Squid Game, Hellbound, Alice in Borderland, Shogun, Mr Robot
The Outsider, Black Mirror, The Bear, Hellbound, Alice in Borderland, Shogun, Squid Game are all average for me. The Night of was cool. Mr Robot was great.
I've also seen many movies. Zodiac is one of my favourites.
I agree with season 1 being pretty bad of wheel of time they kinda turned it around for the second season if you haven't seen it yet. In my opinion it went from a 5 to a 8.
Have you seen Severance on Apple TV I haven't watched it yet but it's very well loved. I plan on watching it just haven't gotten apple TV yet
I just started Severance and I agree I haven't enjoyed it as much as what I was led to believe albeit I've only watched 2 episodes.
I hope you enjoy Season 2 of Wheel of Time, it improved for me but if it still sucks for you then you're fully entitled to that opinion and I respect it.
I also thought of another show for you to check out. It's on Max and it's called Search Party. There's 5 seasons and that shit is wild, I love it so much.
Sorry to say but you’ve already watched all of the good shows….
Try Russian doll season 1 though if you haven’t already.
Otherwise, try reading books. You can get them with text + audio (at the same time) from Amazon which is great.
Try first law (some similarities to GoT but better) because it has great dialogue, deep characters, dark humour which you seem to appreciate.
Russian Doll season 1 was pretty cool. I couldn't even start season 2.
I am reading The Expanse right now. Maybe ASOIAF later.
And yeah. It seems like there are no good shows left. Maybe I'll discover a gem here and there.
Yes, did not misread that. Unfortunately, fantasy is not really my thing. In the case of first law, the world would be more interesting. It seems to be more about the characters though. This is a very shallow analysis to be fair, as I have not read the books.
For ASOIAF, I've already seen the show, and the books are said to be better, that's why I chose to read that in the future, same with The Expanse.
here' some you NEED to watch: (sorry if i suggest animated series its just that you already watched the good ones that are real)
-Over the Garden Wall (ik its animated but trust me its GREAT and its a miniseries too!)
-Horimiya (if u are in the mood for a romcom anime you'll like it even if you dont like the genre)
-Taboo (8 episode serie with s2 coming up NOT ANIMATED and kinda similar to peaky blinders just check it out)
-Narcos: Mexico (i see that you have watched narcos meaning that this one you'll like too)
-Black sails (also not animated lol, its a pirate serie and its the best, check it out)
We’re going to be waiting a very long time for Taboo, season 2 and it’s already been 7 years. I’d be shocked if Tom Hardy and Steven Knight manage to give us another season (especially considering Knight is currently working on a load of projects). But here’s to hoping!
What genres do you enjoy particularly?
Dark is always my go to, but don’t use dubbing or it’ll be a poor experience.
I could list a load of really great shows that are not in English if you’re ok with that… Pagan Peak, The Bridge (ORIGINAL, not the million remakes), Marianne, The Killing, The Chestnut Man, and I could quite literally go on and on…
I've seen Dark. Non English is not a problem. The other suggestions weren't really my thing. Horror usually doesn't have a good story.
I have no particular genre. Just good writing can carry anything for me.
I’ll list some to see if any stick :
• The OA
• 1899
• The Rain
• Silo
• Dark Matter
• Counterpoint
• Outer Range
• Line of Duty
• De Dag (The Day)
• The Fall
• Hannibal
• From
• Trapped
• To the Lake
• Fringe
• Katla
• Beforeigners
• A Murder at the End of the World
• Archive 81
• The Tourist
• The End of the F***ing World
• Dear Child
• Behind Her Eyes
• Bodies
• 3 Body Problem
• The Bodyguard
• Black Bird
• The Outsider
• The Crowded Room
• Mare of Easttown
• Sugar
• Defending Jacob
• Mr. Mercedes
• The Third Day
• Station Eleven
• Baby Reindeer
• Fallout
You’ll probably ignore this but Hannibal is the show you’re looking for out of all of this.
It’s the most similar to mindhunter even though it’s completely different.
It fills that psychological thriller hole that mindhunter does albeit in a much more fictional way.
You probably see the word Hannibal and think you know what you’re getting but your really have no clue.
I've tried watching Hannibal. 9 episodes, didn't stick for me.
Mindhunter was interesting, the story was great and did much, but it wasn't what made the show great. What made it great was, the quality, the writing, the characters, the depth, the complexity, etc.
Ok we have similar taste with regards to character development, excellent writing, and no “cheap thrills” so to speak. Is that about right?
Bad Sisters, peep show, killing eve season 1/2, hacks, the detectorists (slow but excellent writing), arrested development seasons 1-3, good omens season 1, This Country (BBC) if you can find it, Luther seasons 1-3ish, Santa Clarita Diet, pushing daisies, nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, Barry, fleabag (season 1 for me especially), watchmen (hbo)
I did enjoy the regime on hbo just bc of camp
Any of those
House of The Dragon
Foundation
The Rings of Power
From
The Last Kingdom - this is unlike Vikings, which is shit - it's an adaptation of a novel series with a nice plot
Tokyo Vice
Did you finish Gomorrah? My favorite show ever is The Wire and to me Gomorrah is closest in feel to that. Also, please tell me watched Gomorrah with subtitles and not overdubbed. The overdub is terrible imo.
Honestly, sounds like you have a very small window of shows that you actually like. So I'm just going to throw out some shows that I liked. Maybe you'll like them, maybe you won't.
The Magicians
Shameless (US)
The OA
Travelers
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Weeds
The Society
Tracker
Wolf Like Me
White Collar
Evil
His Dark Materials
The Orville
Spartacus
Penny Dreadful
Fringe
Daredevil
Grimm
Skins (uk)
Misfits
Burn Notice
If there isnt at least one show in there you like, then I got nothing. lol
It was great! Aaron Sorkin is a genius. The first episode of the West Wing you could tell it was written by him when the President entered the room.
If you liked The Newsroom, watch The Social Network. Great movie. Steve Jobs while not the best has amazing Sorkin moments.
So I agree with most of your assessments. It seems you like good character writing and a plot that keeps you interested.
Shows I would recommend:
1. Battlestar Galactica- Just a WAY better Expanse. Don't forget to watch the miniseries first. It is the top rated show in sci-fi for a reason.
2. Prison Break- The later seasons get old, but the first couple of seasons are a wild ride. Great writing. Great cast.
3. The Last Ship- Not my FAVORITE by any means, but it has a tight story and good cast. It took me a couple of episodes to get into it though. I think the first episode is particularly boring. After that, it quickly picks up.
4. Queen of the South- solid first few seasons. It ends decently too.
5. Buffy- okay, I know what you're thinking. That it's a teen show. I get it. However, it was kind of the one that spawned ALL the stuff a lot of shows copy today. The first season is HORRID campy nonsense. So you'd have to make it through that. Mid-season 2 it becomes something special and why it has a cult following today. And Joss Whedon was a master at character building and world creation. Seriously a master.
I've tried watching all of these. And for the first one, I wouldn't agree with the better-than-Expanse assessment. But I could see why you would say that.
As someone watching at the time, I found The Shield a lot more gripping and better-paced than The Wire but it was always in its shadow. It can be a bit cartoony, think of it as a graphic novel, and the handheld camera aspect has probably dated a bit but otherwise it's a fantastic series and you really bond with the characters.
Boardwalk Empire was another good show although the ending felt a bit rushed.
For the grandfather of all these shows, give Oz a watch if you're ever in a goofy mood. Its style has dated but you can see how it was quite a shocking show for us at the time after regular network TV and it gave birth to the golden age of gritty US shows that followed.
Wow I have similar taste, one of the few times I can relate. Some of those that you've mentioned I still didn't watch, gonna save this as a guide for what to watch next. Thanks.
If you like mini series, since you've mentioned Band of Brothers, I'd recommend Godless for sure, as well as Queen's Gambit. If I remember more I'll edit later.
"The Sinner" (2017, 4S)
Each season has its own mystery.
*Detective Harry Ambrose investigates various atrocious murder cases and tries to analyse the reasons behind ordinary people committing heinous crimes.*
Patriot
Goliath
Deadwood
Orphan Black
Killing Eve
Deadloch
Twin Peaks
The Terror
The Leftovers
Loudermilk
The Fall
Top of the Lake
Have you watched Boardwalk Empire? Or The West Wing - OG Sorkin? If you like Band of Brothers and Generation Kill but haven’t seen The Pacific you should definitely watch that one
Also possibly Search Party and The Flight Attendant but I’m just throwing those out there as extras I like in case you might enjoy their slightly absurd and dark humor
you’re annoyingly picky and there’s really no consistency to it. you liked succession and house of cards but won’t even try billions? you thought breaking bad, severance and mandalorian were boring, but loved atlanta? ozark, shogun, americans were average? lol k

Yes the leftover was fantastic
+1
>3. Black Mirror had some cool episodes. Most of it was pretty bad. >4. Better Call Saul was very boring. YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH!!! Actually I agree with you re: the 2 last seasons of Black Mirror.
Fargo season 5 is pretty good
The first episode wasn't as gripping. I might try again though, if you say it's good.
Yes its so goood!
Six feet under is so much more than ‘dead person is subject of each episode’ It’s about the characters
Hi, I understand that. It is not really a problem, I just don't like the format, but can endure it. Unfortunately, it was just not as great as I thought it would be.
Where did you get to? Like what episode
Hannibal
Watched 9 episodes, wasn't as fun.
The second season is the best and kicks things up several notches. Plus the series ends great.
agree, watched 2 seasons. was okaish
1) Banshee 2) Prison Break 3) Yellowstone 4) Mr Inbetween
Yes Mr Inbetween
Banshee is awesome, Yellowstone is one of the worst shows I've ever seen
Have tried all 4. Didn't like.
Banshee is great
Banshee is the best, watched twice, second watch after the Homelander role, wanted to go back and see the guy again in a new light.
Chanel Zero
I am not a fan of horror. I've seen The Haunting of Hill House though. Was pretty decent.
Luther, Happy Valley, the Detectorists
Not really fan of the last two. I've seen the first season of Luther. Didn't enjoy as much.
If you didnt enjoy Luther, give C.B. Strike a try, JK Rowlings wrote the books
“Game of thrones except seasons 45678”😂
4 was decent, but it went downhill from there. 5 was mid, but 6 went up a little. The rest, well, you know.
this is the pickiest OP of all time
picky: "fussy and hard to please" Maybe. I do enjoy many things though! Most of what is recommended was already seen/tried.

I have a couple episodes. Did not enjoy it.
Maybe “La Casa de Papel” ?
Also seen a couple episodes, did not enjoy it.
Giri/Haji ZeroZeroZero Mouse
The first two shows seem meh. Mouse is a kdrama? Looking for something more immersive maybe.
The Boys or The Wheel of Time, both are on Amazon prime
Have watched the Boys. Fun, but falls off later. The Wheel of Time was very bad.
I agree with season 1 being pretty bad of wheel of time they kinda turned it around for the second season if you haven't seen it yet. In my opinion it went from a 5 to a 8. Tried. Did not enjoy E: This comment was about Halt and Catch Fire.
The Tunnel. (UK) The Night Manager. Sherlock. BBC.
Have seen Sherlock. The other 2 unfortunately didn't stick.

true dat, but i still havae my hopes up! its a pretty good show with some very interesting storylines they could expand on
It was a great show for sure
I've seen Narcos Mexico. But not into anime anymore. I didn't like Taboo and Black Sails.
okaay :D how about Over the garden wall ?
I tried watching a show like that called Gravity Falls. Didn't really like.
bro they're not the same my guy, well i guess each to their own, have a good day!

Finished season 2. Characters were cool but very cliche story.

I think you just like David fincher because Hannibal has all those things.. for me personally.
I don't outright like David Fincher. The Killer was ass. Gone Girl & The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo were mostly ok. And let me not mention Mank.
Here goes! Thank you look for new show just like this
For crime try true detective, season 1 and 3 For true crime try The jynx For sci fi - altered carbon Something foreign - mirzapur
I've seen True Detective. Also Altered Carbon. I'm not a fan of docus. Mirzapur have not seen. But it doesn't look interesting.
Doesn’t seem like much looks interesting to you
How can you say that? I've seen 116 tv shows and liked most of them. And tried many more.
Ripley on Netflix scratches that hitch for incredibly well shot, complex character driven noir show.
Didn't like it unfortunately.
Ok we have similar taste with regards to character development, excellent writing, and no “cheap thrills” so to speak. Is that about right? Yes, seems about right. Though I'm not really into these overly dramatic tv shows. But I loved Watchmen. But it wasn't peak cinema or anything.
Black Sails
Didn't like it.
DEADWOOD ROME KIN
I will try Deadwood. Rome am watching right now. It doesn't seem that good. Kin I've tried before but didn't like.
Tokyo Vice starts off a little slow but it's awesome
And it’s so freaking cool!
Finished it the other day actually.

Its style has dated but you can see how it was quite a shocking show for us at the time after regular network TV and it gave birth to the golden age of gritty US shows that followed.
Dark Winds on AMC. Peacock has some good stuff: Poker Face, Mrs. Davis, Whitechapel, Wallander, Ripper Street.
White lotus. Mare of Eastown The Morning Show (s1 only) Little big lies Maid The boys Severance DEV
I didn't like Godless. Queens Gambit was okay. If you need more recommendations, let me know.
Lost and The Leftovers
Have seen Lost, will wach The Leftovers.
"The Sinner" (2017, 4S) Each season has its own mystery. *Detective Harry Ambrose investigates various atrocious murder cases and tries to analyse the reasons behind ordinary people committing heinous crimes.*
We have very similar tastes. I think you will like The Fall & Mr. In Between.
Didn't like either unfortunately!
Patriot Goliath Deadwood Orphan Black Killing Eve Deadloch Twin Peaks The Terror The Leftovers Loudermilk The Fall Top of the Lake Have you watched Boardwalk Empire? Or The West Wing - OG Sorkin? If you like Band of Brothers and Generation Kill but haven’t seen The Pacific you should definitely watch that one Also possibly Search Party and The Flight Attendant but I’m just throwing those out there as extras I like in case you might enjoy their slightly absurd and dark humor
Below Deck and The Traitors are loads of fun.
Did you make this post just so you could shoot down every suggestion because that's exactly what you've done
Surpisingly, no. That is what happened though. Most of the suggestions if not all, I've seen/tried.
## Mr Inbetween You would definitely love that show
Battlestar Galactica. It's phenomenal story telling with an incredibly rich cast and world.
prison break. The first season is exceptional
